STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl with the Zone Reclamation Fan Patch (Vanilla friendly, it just fixes bugs) is a great experience in 2024. The game has issues and flaws. Its AI is very smart, far smarter than in most modern games but sometimes it breaks itself and ends up being around the level of a modern FPS (which is bad lol). It has poor animations too... But the atmosphere, the Factions, the interesting lore and world, the high concept idea of the Klondike Gold Rush happening in a post-Soviet ecological disaster area, where man fought human greed only to fail and create a beautuful hellscape... where the lonely and forsaken of the world go to escape from the law or to find the only place to accept them... it is incredible. GSC was so close to absolute greatness with just more tweaks to gunplay and fewer bugs on launch, but even vanilla ZPR SOC is just a top 5 FPS and top 1 open world FPS of all time. The only thing of its tier... are some of the STALKER Story mods. Like NLC7 for example lol. Lets hope STALKER 2 reaches at least this level.... + it is a true PCMR title. FTW.
I’ll even go as far to say the AI is on par with FEAR 1, just executed differently. Ironically, it’s best to play on “Master” difficulty as STALKER’s difficulty doesn’t work the way you normally think it does. You more or less dish out the same amount of damage as you can take regardless and the same goes for the A.I. First time playing, I basically shot myself in the foot by playing on novice which made the end game damn near impossible due to how bullet spongey the enemy ai was. I also feel like “master” difficulty was how the game was intended to be played on similar to metro’s hardcore Ranger mode. It should also be noted that the Call of Chernobyl mod (which combines SoC, Clear Skies and CoP into a singular cohesive game) is more or less how STALKER was originally suppose to be designed (apart from the Lost Alpha)
@@bronzin1445That is a myth about damage. At novice difficulty you take less damage and enemies take more. At master enemies take less damage and you take more.
@@bronzin1445 STALKER just likes to not register hits, or the recoil patterns go wild and your shots miss. Difficulty doesn't make enemies easier to kill, you are just more careful with your aim.
I'm so happy to see that the metro series did so well in the best FPS rankings, I never hear anyone talk about the series but those are some respectable rankings
You can definitely feel the demographics in the votes. PC gamers probably pushed for half life and stalker while xbox players most likely went with halo and bioshock. Im curious about where people first played Titanfall 2 and Metro on
Man its so hard to choose between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Years later I still go back to those games. Still listen to the soundtracks. Something that matched the HL soundtracks in terms of quality were the Doom soundtracks by Mick Gordon.

These are games that don't have confusing level, maze designs (Turok 1 or OG DOOM), a huge weapon arsenal, no clunky controllers (Crysis 1) and shooting that feels satisfying (Not like Darkness 1. Good story but bad gameplay) and 95% of the games on the list have a campaign were you spend at least 75% of the time shooting instead of just walking around. Though New Vegas, System Shock, Stalker, Metro and PREY 2017 are absolutely exceptional.
@@desislavastoykova1629 I love Half life, I agree that it was the better game in 98. But still, Unreal was right behind it with all of innovations to FPS. Yet, you barely see it mention anywhere. If you ask anybody who played it. They will usualy talk about AI, the music and memorable visuals. And the weapons were solid, there is reason why it didn't much changed in sequels...
I really like Half-Life 2 but I really REALLY like Half-Life 1. There are some negative aspects related to HL2 that after plenty of playthroughs I came to notice more and more. Like the way enemies don't react as much to being shoot and they having an almost aimbot like behavior even when you are strafing around that really kills the fun for me. This is something that I also dislike with Black Mesa, which I assume has to do more with the Source Engine itself and how enemies are programed from the get go.
The one game i cannot understand how it didn't go further is Borderlands 2 Imo one of the best shooters and one of the most fun games i have played. Only looter shooter i like more than BL2 is Destiny 1, cause i ADORE D1
I honestly much prefer BL1. BL2 added a ton of things from dungeon crawlers I'm not really a huge fan of. It also constantly felt like enemies were just a level or so above you and super bullet spongy. You never really found a ridiculously strong weapon that you used for the next 10 levels unless you grinded a boss for a specific drop and I hate that.
@@Jarekthegamingdragon that is very fair, BL1 is just as much of a classic, even if to me it feels very clunky at times. Personally, i find the fact your guns will not last for too long unless they are a powerful unique or legendary like an Unkempt Harold or Sand Hawk adds to the charm, since you're always gonna be on the lookout for upgrades, but at the end of the day it's all personal preference and taste
I gotta admit, I'm not sure why you're surprised STALKER SoC got so far. It is a fantastically crafted game with a fantastic atmosphere and a truly desolate radiation-ravaged world with some of the most realistic gunplay and with a difficulty that forces you to think and use resources well. It ain't your son's FPS anyway. It's the precursor to the Metro series and is every bit as good (if not better) than its successors. It is legitimately one of the best FPS games out there. Also you have to consider that the original trilogy was recently rereleased and the hype for STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl right now is real, so that's probably helping aid its numbers as well.
What a way for it to circle back around to HL1 VS HL2 when this is an FPS channel that is a huge fan of Half Life. Somehow I always knew Half Life 2 would win
I think Unreal 1998 - The first game of the Unreal series, is the most underated FPS game ever. It even participated from this list. Great soundtracks and atmosphere, challenging AI and levels. But for some reason, it wasn´t very popular as Quake and Doom were at single player category.
VR is still inaccessible for most people and is just too inconvenient to use for others, that's why. It's still a bit niche in the consumer sphere. I feel like adding Titanfall is cheating a little. It barely had a campaign and wasn't memorable, everybody just plays it for the MP, much like recent Black Ops games and if you don't like wall running mechanics (me) there is no huge value in the game. That and if you look at the Steam reviews, it just everybody talking about downloading the private server clint for MP. I don't feel it belongs in the list regarding the rules, it's primarily a PVP game.
VR is pretty accessible for PC gamers now a days. Just $300 for a quest and you're good to go. Hell, there's even PSVR2 for console gamers. If only microsoft would get on board. ???? Titanfall 2 has a campaign and you have *no idea* how much people love it. I do think that it is wildly over rated but it has a campaign, it absolutely fits. People weren't voting on multiplayer.
@@JarekthegamingdragonI think the main issue is that the layman gamer still views VR as a glorified peripheral and/or gimmick rather than dedicated unit despite the Meta (Oculus) Quest 2 being available for quite some time. VR is still in its infancy and we probably won’t see its true potential until the next generation with the PS6 and whatnot. That and not enough AAA support. The only two that comes to mind is Half-Life: Alyx and the upcoming Metro: VR. There’s quite a few AAA games that support VR but not they’re not necessarily VR games if that makes sense.
We've already seen the true potential of VR with games like Boneworks, Vertigo 2, Into The Radius, etc. All of those are mechanically deeper than alyx. If you're waiting on AAA to enjoy video games, you're not gonna have a good time pretty much any where in gaming right now.
It was funny to see how rarely I'd agree with the votes. Usually it's the typical cases of people putting story over gameplay, which is the opposite of what I care about, but Halo beating Doom Eternal? Everyone who voted for Halo there should be legally barred from ever having an opinion again, lol.
Jarek if you are doing a STALKER video, try the community patch. Zone Reclamation Project for SoC, Sky Reclamation for Clear Sky, and Pripyat Reclamation for CoP. Id say Clear Sky REALLY needs it, the others... I still recommend it HARD.
Metroid Prime is my favorite game of all time. Was rough having to watch it go against Halo 2, not just because of the sheer weight of Bungie era Halo, but because it's ALSO easily in my own top 10
Nice video. I love Half-Life but I'm a bit sad Quake didn't make it very far... I'm a huge Half-life 1 fan both because of single- and multiplayer... Half-Life 1 Team Deathmatch may be my favourite multiplayer game ever
@@alm5992"Teen nostalgia" Hey grandpa, kids born in 1999 were already in their early 20s when DOOM ETERNAL came out. Also, as a 99 kid, I voted for Halo 3. Love Doom Eternal, but Halo 3's campaign is just legendary. The fact it can be played in coop adds so much for the overall experience too.
Stalker is a good game but it had a lot of bugs. The game shines today thanks to its mods, either just visuals or gameplay improvements. I’m curious to know how many people played or can play this game without any mods. Stalker has so many mods, like Doom 2, so they have a very strong “replay” and “legacy” value. I’m sure the mods influenced the votes.
Polished movement, animations and mechanics. There is a debate over core mechanics design like the chainsaw and ammo count, however the attention to detail/care and polish on Doom Eternal just makes it better.
While Eternal’s graphics and story may be a downgrade from 2016, It improves everything else so much to the point where it blows 2016 out of the competition.
As a fan of the STALKER Saga, I know the community is pretty large and dedicated. Might as well be a reason for you to make a video about the games you know...
Fun video, and no hate, but once they finished the product cyberpunk became one of the best fps I've ever played.... feel like it could've been included.....I also feel WaW was by far the best cod campaign. It was raw, they mixed in allot of unexpected detail, and real footage that you will never see someone have the balls to put in a game again. Black ops was definitely one of the better campaigns, and 4, I felt it was more that it was a modern turn than anything being impressive as far as story.
12:45 - Sure, DOOM 2 added a few new enemies, some of them iconic, and was all new maps, and one of the best shotguns ever, but at the end of the day it was just more DOOM. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was unique at the time, at least as far as I know, there was nothing else like it at the time. Even now there's not much like it out there.
Wrong BS in the contest, 2 would have gone farther. On a less controversial note, I wonder how it would have played out with reshuffled start positions. Would certainly vote again if that were tried. And yes, I really like Stalker. Mainly COP, but the original already was great.
Cuz most people didn’t get to experience Fear on pc and it’s really shitty on console. Everyone ik that played Fear loves it so it’s definitely praised
halo 3 was made to win over doom eternal, since it’s co op gameplay, and it has a good multiplayer. one thing we all know is the doom games did not have such great multiplayers, but they were decent multiplayers
This isn’t a Skyrim type of scenario where the mods are keeping (let’s be real) a mid game alive. If anything, it’s more inline with Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines where the game itself was phenomenal from the start, it’s just technically incomplete; hence why the unofficial patch and Camarilla mod for the latter are essential
HL1 walked so HL2 can run and by god HL2 got around. if it weren't for HL2 TF|2, TF2, L4D1+2 and a lot of shooters in the 2k's would not exist as they are.
Just played both half life games for the first time. The first game was very good but there are some levels that are way too long and not very fun. I think half life 2 is much better paced and it's probably the one I will play more often in the future.
Conduit 2 losing to Borderlands makes me so sad. Definitely the best FPS on Wii (not counting Metroid Prime 3) and one of the best shooters of that generation in general.
My top 10 games of all time list would be this: 1. DOOM ETERNAL 2. DOOM (2016) 3. QUAKE CHAMPIONS 4. QUAKE 3 ARENA 5. QUAKE 2 6. QUAKE 2 64 7. QUAKE 1 8. DOOM 64 9. DOOM 2 10. DOOM 1
Hey this no disrespect to fear I can imagine it’s a great game, but my theory of why it didn’t make it that far is because fears experience was best on pc, and at that time pc where pretty inaccessible for the common house hold market, so people never got to fully experience the game when it came out, where Bioshock was universally experienced but a wide range of people due to it having the best experience on an Xbox or ps3 and that’s no shade to fear I just think more people got to grow up with Bioshock. I mean when I was a kid fear felt like that forbidden game that you only got to see clips off on game spot(Remember that).

@@DW461 It registers hits. Its just that the weapon balance is wonky so sometimes it deals little damage and doesnt make enemies flinch.
@@desislavastoykova1629 Weapons are also tiered, which the game does not indicate to you outside of stats
Halo 3 thought of been safe after defeating Doom Eternal, oh dear we aren't gonna let you go without a goodbye.
I'm so happy to see that the metro series did so well in the best FPS rankings, I never hear anyone talk about the series but those are some respectable rankings
S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC is my all time goat, I’m glad it made it so far. Titanfall 2 is a banger as well
You can definitely feel the demographics in the votes. PC gamers probably pushed for half life and stalker while xbox players most likely went with halo and bioshock. Im curious about where people first played Titanfall 2 and Metro on
I feel like doom and quake would have been higher then and had more games pop up
probably the lion share from ps4 at this point
Definitely make a worst series. This was a great way to engage your audience and I enjoyed reading the comments.
Man its so hard to choose between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Years later I still go back to those games. Still listen to the soundtracks. Something that matched the HL soundtracks in terms of quality were the Doom soundtracks by Mick Gordon.
Really loved seeing these polls and voting, was a lot of fun/something to look forward to :)
these polls were the only RUclips platform community thing I actually looked forward to seeing every day. I hope you do another bracket thing one of these days!
The sort of FPS games I enjoy peaked with Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior etc. But I could quite enjoy some later games like Half-Life and Unreal too.
I missed out on many polls throughout the weeks, I forgot this was incoming. But oh my lord, this was insane.
Great video Jarek!
i'm surprised that Stalker managed get that far to be fair its one of my favourite games that i will replay any time, but i think Half Life 2 deserve it.
But it's sad that Boneworks and Ventigo 2 didn't have much appreciation because VR only and "not many people" own VR
Also Jarek are you planning reviews of Stalker Games? or Into the Radius?
We all knew who the winner was, but I expected finals to be Black Mesa vs. HL2...
But hot damn wasn't this entertaining! Listing absolute classics one after another.
Man, I completely forgot about Resistance 3. Was hoping to see Black, but that's ok. A lot of these I haven't heard of or never got the opportunity to play. Just bought the Metro trilogy since it's rather cheap on Steam rn...so far so good 👍 Nice video! Appreciate all the recommendations
Damn I love the Metro games but I never realized how much people loved them too, it felt good seeing it as far as it did!
That being said I really need to play Stalker now.
and you should buddy, and if you even grave more with stalker, try out some mod too
What a great list and an insane turnout! Great video dude 💙
Damn, Titanfall 2 was a dark Horse for a little bit in this tournament
LOVE these types of videos, please do more!
I am quite surprised with the outcome of this video, but hey I contributed to the outcome so I really don't know why I'm so surprised lol
Im so glad STALKER made it so far. That's the only game I keep going back to still like 20 years later

Yes, we are also spoiled when it comes to shooters if you know where to dig. I think I have made the most detaied list so far with no filler tbh.
Lol starfield is here but not perfect dark ? Wtf
I still wonder what's so bad about Unreal, that it's so often overlooked. It's no best in genre, but still.
I think Unreal 1 is like a superior Quake 1. It is the same tier as Half Life 1 IMHO.
Unreal was alwyas the forgotten brother to quake. Even epic games forgor about it
@@desislavastoykova1629 it was one of the "Quake killers" and it was better than Quake 2 for sure
The one game i cannot understand how it didn't go further is Borderlands 2
Imo one of the best shooters and one of the most fun games i have played. Only looter shooter i like more than BL2 is Destiny 1, cause i ADORE D1
Jareks audience isn’t very fond of Bl tbh 😂
@@MILDMONSTER1234 i get why lmao, love his vids tho
It’s quite sad to think I’ve already played the top voted FPS games out there. I was hoping for a hidden gem that I had missed.
Glad this poll recognize that all CoD campaigns are dogshit.
Also it's time for that S.T.A.L.K.E.R video.
World at War and Black Ops 1 was pretty great but everything else is pretty mid at best
@@bronzin1445 Black Ops 2's campaign was good as well albeit not as good as the other 2.
I'm using this as a list of FPSs I missed out on
Fear and Doom Eternal are my favorite shooters by a large margin
So you’re a man of blood and gore I see. Both of those games are brutal as shit. I can’t wait to play Doom Eternal.
Did you play the Extraction Point DLC in Fear?
@@mikiryates6075 I love extraction point! I think I still like the base game more but it’s close between them
You should do a top FPS Weapons bracket next!
I was expecting HL1 vs Doom Ethernel in the end...
Entropy zero 2?
Absolute banger that game, I enjoyed it as much as Half Life games honestly, what a mod that is.
STALKER is just…so good. When i played it, and started to look at videos and forums etc. I realized…people really love STALKER
Best *insert category* game of all time is subjective.
Borderlands 2 / Conduit 2 and Metro Exodus / Nightmare Reaper both got 91% and 9%. What a coincidence!
It was funny to see how rarely I'd agree with the votes. Usually it's the typical cases of people putting story over gameplay, which is the opposite of what I care about, but Halo beating Doom Eternal? Everyone who voted for Halo there should be legally barred from ever having an opinion again, lol.
I had a blast participating thanks brother
Jarek if you are doing a STALKER video, try the community patch. Zone Reclamation Project for SoC, Sky Reclamation for Clear Sky, and Pripyat Reclamation for CoP. Id say Clear Sky REALLY needs it, the others... I still recommend it HARD.
They are vanilla experiences. Just more stable.
Most of the options was i either played one of the games or none.
If I had to choose the best fps:
Oldschool: Blood
Early 3D: FEAR
Modern: Doom Eternal
Honorable mentions for TimeSplitters 2 as the best console fps.
Fear and Eternal are the most violent fps games I ever played
Metroid Prime is my favorite game of all time. Was rough having to watch it go against Halo 2, not just because of the sheer weight of Bungie era Halo, but because it's ALSO easily in my own top 10
Honestly that was a mercy, you should see how Prime 2 sold when it came out the same time as Halo
I was there,@@chairforceoneYT. I was there 3000 years ago (give or take)
@@chairforceoneYT Metroid has always been niche tbh
That was freaking AWESOME!!
This was a pretty good video. How about doing a Best indie shooter tournament?
Ultrakill losing first round to the game that is not even super popular is nuts
UK fanboys don’t know about this video yet thankfully. If they did the shitstorm would be insane
Ultrakill has an insanely loud fanbase, but most of the people that played just think its good not a masterpiece of the genre
As for halo 3 vs Metro Exodus, I’d have to say that’s pretty fair considering Exodus is more exploring that shooting.
Nice video. I love Half-Life but I'm a bit sad Quake didn't make it very far... I'm a huge Half-life 1 fan both because of single- and multiplayer... Half-Life 1 Team Deathmatch may be my favourite multiplayer game ever
Eternal not winning shows ppl don’t care for overall quality, nostalgia and popularity carry these votes
Just like your teen nostalgia for Doom Eternal? I'm going to assume you were born in 1999? Games lost their quality years before Eternal.
Under the mayo is that you?
Stalker is a good game but it had a lot of bugs. The game shines today thanks to its mods, either just visuals or gameplay improvements. I’m curious to know how many people played or can play this game without any mods. Stalker has so many mods, like Doom 2, so they have a very strong “replay” and “legacy” value. I’m sure the mods influenced the votes.
Playing it rn for the first time vanilla no bugs yet but only a few hours in
Off top sort of: why is Doom Eternal better than Doom 2016?
Polished movement, animations and mechanics. There is a debate over core mechanics design like the chainsaw and ammo count, however the attention to detail/care and polish on Doom Eternal just makes it better.
It basically takes everything that made 2016 great to begin with and just overall improves upon it, which is what a sequel should do
While Eternal’s graphics and story may be a downgrade from 2016, It improves everything else so much to the point where it blows 2016 out of the competition.
I prefer 2016. I know I'm not alone, but a minority. It's got a way more interesting environment to me.
Wish you can do a review on Raising the Bar Redux in future. That is one of the best HL2 Beta if it come to life.
Wrong BS in the contest, 2 would have gone farther.
On a less controversial note, I wonder how it would have played out with reshuffled start positions. Would certainly vote again if that were tried.
And yes, I really like Stalker. Mainly COP, but the original already was great.
So, the next one's gonna be the best Multiplayer FPS?
I get the feeling that it will be between Halo 3 MP and MW2 (2009).
@@bronzin1445 don't forget about legendary left 4 dead

halo 3 was made to win over doom eternal, since it’s co op gameplay, and it has a good multiplayer. one thing we all know is the doom games did not have such great multiplayers, but they were decent multiplayers
I did not need to hear that Halo 3 released 17 years ago ;-;
Probably a bad time to remind everyone that the Xbox 360 will be 20 years old come next year (2005 - 2025)
I love Trepang2, STALKER, DOOM, HL1 & 2 and FC2,
I imagine a lot of the people voting for stalker arent actually voting for soc theyre voting for the various mods that people love now days
Well in 2024 using vanilla friendly mods is the way. They're almost objectively better lol
Nope. I liked vanilla games before trying mods
@@lukaimedashvili270 congrats you're not who I'm referring to jackass
This isn’t a Skyrim type of scenario where the mods are keeping (let’s be real) a mid game alive.
If anything, it’s more inline with Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines where the game itself was phenomenal from the start, it’s just technically incomplete; hence why the unofficial patch and Camarilla mod for the latter are essential
Nah I voted for SoC directly
HL1 walked so HL2 can run and by god HL2 got around. if it weren't for HL2 TF|2, TF2, L4D1+2 and a lot of shooters in the 2k's would not exist as they are.
Do not underestimate the power of the Cheeki Breeki my dragon friend
I really thought HL1 was going to take it, but the sequel can hold the title.
There should be Singularity in that list. For example Titanfall 2 vs Singularity
I think it would have been cool if doom 3 was also included given it's very different to doom 2 and eternal.
My top 10 games of all time list would be this:
1. DOOM ETERNAL
2. DOOM (2016)
3. QUAKE CHAMPIONS
4. QUAKE 3 ARENA
5. QUAKE 2
6. QUAKE 2 64
7. QUAKE 1
8. DOOM 64
9. DOOM 2
10. DOOM 1
surprised black mesa went so up the chart instead of doom
Hey this no disrespect to fear I can imagine it’s a great game, but my theory of why it didn’t make it that far is because fears experience was best on pc, and at that time pc where pretty inaccessible for the common house hold market, so people never got to fully experience the game when it came out, where Bioshock was universally experienced but a wide range of people due to it having the best experience on an Xbox or ps3 and that’s no shade to fear I just think more people got to grow up with Bioshock. I mean when I was a kid fear felt like that forbidden game that you only got to see clips off on game spot(Remember that).
