      Happy Sunday! Thank you for doing the comparison! I have a cuisinart air fryer toaster oven and find that I have to flip the wings half way through to get it crispy.

      Having the pan to catch drippings was why it didn’t get super crispy, cook without it and you’ll have better results, I had to learn that when I first got mine. :)

      Doesn’t the toaster oven have a thin pullout drip tray at the bottom? Ours does it’s hard to notice since it’s pretty much flat, that would help it cool at a normal time

    With the kitchen aid you have to bump recommended temps up 25-50 degrees for the extra crispiness. Figured that out early in my ownership

      How long does it take to preheat to 425 degrees? I'm thinking about getting one of these. Wish it had quartz elements though. If it gets hot I guess it doesn't matter. I just had a walmart brand Mainstays 6 slice oven. It was terrible. Takes forever to get to even 300 degrees. Took over 30 minutes to cook a tostinos.

  • @naterivers6107
    @naterivers6107 3 года назад +23

    I think part of the issue might be you didn't let the Kitchenaid preheat long enough, assuming you just did it for the 2 minutes the Phillips took. The Kitchenaid has a way larger cook area, and because its a oven it will take longer to preheat than a dedicated air fryer.

    For what I could see the kitchen aide wings were not turned around and the air fryer ones were, and that together with having the trays underneath can make a big difference.

      You cooked in the KitchenAid more wings then you did at one time then in the air fryer I think that would make a difference in the browning Being you are comparing it just makes common sense

    • @donaldchase329
      @donaldchase329 2 года назад +7

      Had the tray been placed on the very bottom of the machine where it belongs it would have done a much better job. It was placed too close to the wings and thus blocked some of the heat.

    Hi Flo,
    I recently bought the KitchenAid model that you have. I have tried a few settings variations to see if I could boost the crispyness factor that seems to be lacking on this model. The settings variations that gave me the best results for surface crispyness are as follows:
    1. A thin coat of vegetable oil ( I used olive oil) over any meat or vegetable.
    2. Set the dial to Broil at 450 degrees in combination with the convection button for the duration of the cook.
    It seems counter intuitive but I found this setting variation gives me a better golden brown crispyness on the cook. I was worried that by using the Broiler setting instead of the Air Fryer may cause burning and the cooking process to become smokey. That is not the case when the Broiler setting is used in conjunction with the Convection button. The convection airflow circulation prevents the broiler from burning whatever is in the basket or tray on the higher rung level.
    I hope this helps.
    Let me know if you’ve tried other variations of your own.
    Regards,
    Noel from Montreal

      That’s my situation. I’ve been interested in an air fryer but we don’t have extra counter space to add a separate appliance.
      I just bought it because it proofs, dehydrates etc. but haven’t used it yet.
      Now I’m wondering how difficult it is to clean the Kitchen Aid?

    • @joytoyouandme4593
      @joytoyouandme4593 3 года назад

      My thoughts exactly, I need an appliance that will serve multiple purposes. Need the proof and dehydrate functions, as well as air frying.
      May wait a few more months and see if anything new hits the market. Also have noticed a few new ranges that include an air frying cycle, my current range is 21 years old and could use replacing. Hmmm how do I decide...

    • @jmusic45
      @jmusic45 2 года назад +1

      @@nancyhunt2750 I bought the KitchenAid one as same here, I don't have the counter space. I had a Philips, but that "spaceship" was too big for my small kitchen, and I had to keep it in the storage room, and it was so loud. I needed a multi-purpose appliance, and I love my KitchenAid as it toasts, much better to use the reheat feature for leftovers such as pizza slices or some fried dish as the microwave will make it mush, or if I only want to do 6 muffins and don't want to turn on the oven. Plus it has a dehydrate feature which I'm trying out today with some habanero peppers. I do plan to order an extra basket, crumb tray, and rack, as I don't know if this model will at some point be discontinued, so I want to have those just in case something gets burned on food, drippings I can't get off. I put bacon in there, but I use the pan and rack for that, and I put foil paper to line the pan and stick up about an inch in the front to keep the grease from splashing on the glass. I would suggest after it cools down, to unplug it, and clean it with non-chemical type of degreaser such as Method Heavy Duty, or Young Living brand (essential oils) mixture of their Thieves cleaner, as I won't use a heavy chemical cleanser, as I'm not sure if that smell will get in my food.

      The kitchen aid air fryer oven is a more versatile fryer. And I think it goes up higher than 400 degrees, so turn the heat up for the wings, and it does have a broiler to brown the wings. Another plus for the kitchen aid is it doesn't sound like a jet engine running in your kitchen.

    i have the delonghi quartz heat convection toaster oven and i have the ninja foodi xl grill/air fryer side by side on my counter. the delonghi toaster over doesnt air fry but it comes with a basket similar to your kitchenaid. the problem with trying to air-fry in a toaster oven is it is not a good holder of heat as opposed to the more vacuum-like build of the phillips.
    the ninja foodi xl grill/air fryer does a great job at air frying for two reasons, it is almost a complete vaccum when it is closed, and also the air-fry basket is not just a thin wire-mesh basket...it is a metal basket with cutouts that gets hot and aids in the cooking process.
    if you wonder why the wings in the phillips are more crispy its because the wings are contacting more surface than the wings from the kitchenaid that are sitting on thin wire-mesh...the wire-mesh doesnt aid in cooking the meat, whereby more surface contact of the phillips gets hot and helps fry the meat. also, yes the pan under the mesh basket in the kitchenaid is going to lessen the air-fry affect and increase your cooking time.
    great video by you . thanks for posting it.

    The kitchen aid comes with a different drip pan too. That would’ve probably helped the crispness. Also I find when you let the kitchen air preheat first it works better
    I have a kitchen aid toaster/airfryer and I have a instapot air fryer.
    They both have multiple settings but when my friends ask I basically tell them that the kitchen aid is a toaster oven that can air fry. But if I’m going to air fry a lot of stuff I use my instapot airfryer. I love that the kitchen aid has bagel setting and I’ve dehydrated in the kitchen aid .

The cleaning is very quick The down side is that the cleaning is a deterrent and is an issue for some. One could add more wings and stir them more frequently. I would prefer to fry a few minutes longer than what I viewed here, for extra crunch

      Fan forced? The Cusineart air fryer is just a small fan forced oven. Upgrading your existing oven would be as good and possibly cheaper. There are many types of Phillips Air Fryers. Basically there is a small and a large within this you can chose analog or digital (which has more menu options). The latest philips air fryers claim no warm up time.

I also use the grill for steaks, brats, bacon, hot dogs, etc. I do not have the Ninja Foodi Grill XL. I have seen them on You Tube and it is a little roomier. I agree. People who do these side-by-side tests use a convection oven versus an air fryer. The concept is the same, but how big of an area you're cooking in makes all the difference. A smaller area will cook faster than a larger area. Times will be shorter with an air fryer, but not too much space to cook in, whereas a convection oven cooks longer, but has more space for food.

      Also (generally) no preheating with the Phillips, I have the XXL one for bigger amounts and most of the accessories, so - cooler kitchen when cooking in summer. All the benefits of an oven, really. Cakes, muffins also can be done. I don't have an issue with the fan noise; it reminds me it's on, because you throw stuff in, and can walk away and in a very short time food is ready. Cleaning isn't difficult either, and I saw another video on You tube re. the Phillips; you can add a little water to the bottom when cooking if meat is very fatty, like sausages, to prevent fuming and speed up the clean up later. I just make sure to wipe all around the upper element and inside every time. It's actually easier to keep clean than my big wall oven.

      @musasoyyo 3 года назад

      But the problem is not the catcher, the problem with air fryer oves is the heating element below, since they are ovens they have heating elements on top and below, I would recommend leaving the tray but instead turning the wings, as with a regular air fryer, after 50% or 60% of the total time. So I would do 15 minutes then turn the wings an leave them for another 10 to 15 minutes.

    The drip pan DID interfere. Try another test @ 400, but put baking paper on the bottom of the enclosure., (lower temp to prevent combustion). If the paper flies, (due to convection), then just secure it with a couple of baking weights. My bet is that you will get a much different result.

    I have a convection oven/air crisper and watched this to see how it would work for wings and I have not used the air fryer part of the oven. I would have broil them for a minute or 2 to get crispier.

    Thanks for another great video. I just got a Instant Omni Plus and am experimenting with it too . So far am happy with it and gave away the Power Air Fryer Oven which I loved, but like you and the Philip's, I found it too small. My kitchen is too small for both and even the Power Air Fryer and the old smaller toaster oven (that died recently) took up way too much counter space. That’s why I went with a multi function toaster oven/fryer. I think that they all just take a certain amount of getting used to and I am sure that the Kitchenaid will work out just fine once you get used to it. Like all the Instant Pot appliances, the instructions and manual that came with it is terrible and provides very little information , so RUclips has been a great help. Looking forward to more videos with your Kitchenaid as it looks similar to the Instant Omni. Just wondering, could you put the drip pan down lower so that the air circulates more easily? Dude, your finger looks like that must’ve hurt, Ouch!! All the best.

    Thanks! Great video. Love my Philips AF. FYI, The Evo sprayer on Amazon is ranging from $20-$25. Including the stainless steel one. I agree, I couldn't justify paying $40 but I added it to my shopping list on Amazon and when a lightening deal comes up and your item is in a "add to list" you get notified. That's when I purchased my Evo cost me $15 on a lightening deal. 👍😊

    Mama you did not give the KitchenAid the best possible chance to succeed: place the drip-tray on the bottom of the oven (improves circulation) and try 35 minutes frying that batch of wings there

    I’m my experience, our airfryer is the cuisineart which is similar to the Kitchen Aid. Halfway cooking the wings, you should turn them
    Over and spray it again.

    Also, the KitchenAid already has a removable tray at the bottom, adding the second tray hindered the air fryer.

    May I suggest for more airflow is to remove the second rack and put the tray on the bottom of the Kitchen Aid Air Fryer. This will make the wings crispier.

    Yiiikkkeeess so what you probably should have done is take the bottom rack out completely and put the dripping tray on the floor /bottom/base of the air fryer... (KitchenAid).. The show must go on.. LOL

  • @montiraruba2831

    I would have taken the bottom rack out of the Kitchen Aid Fryer and put the dripping tray on the bottom of the fryer that way you have a better airflow around the chicken.

    The most convenient way to flour the wings or any other chicken pieces, in my opinion, is to place the flour in a 1 gallon ziplock bag and fill the bag halfway with chicken pieces and shake away. The chicken comes out well coated and your 2 pounds of chicken can be done in just 2 batches in no time And I agree with you, buying an oil mister is just a :want" a kitchen toy that is not necessary.

    considering you had to do a second batch with the phyllips i'd say it took twice as long to cook the same amount of wings for a little bit crisper. so just cook the kitchenaid wings another ten minutes and you're cutting your time while acheiving the same crispyness.

  • @donaldchase329
    @donaldchase329 2 года назад

    Due to the extremely high cost of wings these days I prefer to pick up legs (drumsticks) and do them just like wings. Sometimes it gets difficult finding small legs but either way you can get three times as much for the same price.

    Yese the tray impedes air flow. Play a sheet of foil in the bottom of oven beneath heating element. You should cook a few minutes longer too. You'll get the same results

  • @huskidawgs

    Well, Flo, since the Kitchenaid is twice the price of the Philips air fryer, I'd think about just getting a second Philips to go alongside your first one. The air fryer function is the primary goal after all, and this would double your volume.

    Paprika on the wings or adobo to give it color, pale wings just look unappetizing and raw. Thanks for the tip on potato starch, I am adding adobo.

    This was so useful. Honestly the kitchen aid wings looked a little anemic. Not sure if they looked better in real life. I think for now I'll just stick with my large capacity air fryer since it's just me. I just wish sometimes I could turn off the fan. It's not fun when you can start to hear the toast flying around in the air fryer, lol.

    you are comparing apples to oranges. Also, you put a drip tray under the airfry tray in KA oven. Given the different in volume area and lack of circulation in the Air in KA, I'd give KA the gold.

    If you are looking for an airfryer that has a large capacity basket Katie Hespe did a vlog on her new Secura Max 6.3QT AirFryer by Elechome. She couldn’t believe the overall browning and crispness of her food in this airfryer.
