Dr Rob's answer to the question about making amends has angered me so much. I agree that if an "affair partner" was in cahoots with the "affair" then I get it, HOWEVER these addicts LIE LIE LIE. They absolutely have the ability to completely F up another persons life. They can get into a relationship and unfortunately when the other is labeled an 'affair partner" they are immediately assumed to be "home wreckers". Meanwhile the addict hid VERY WELL that they were married. This "affair partner" had no idea and is sucked into a nightmare. I know this first hand. I moved for this person, made huge financial adjustments for this person, lived my life THINKING i was in a relationship that was leading to a "future". for several YEARS, Only to find out he was married and hiding a double life. I ABSOLUTELY OWED AN APOLOGY.

Maybe screening shld be done prior to treatment for all psychological disorders before they go to treatment and can't be helped because of mental health issues

Yes, making amends to the world is what I set as a condition for my SA UH because he exploited women.
That is a basic requirement for my sense of justice.
I have heard well-sounding lip service from him.
And again and again the excuse “he’ll do it when he’s ready”.
Well, like so many other things, that will probably never happen. He just doesn't have the strength of character to honestly get his hands dirty.
And as devastating as it is to have to realize this about my husband, it makes it easier for me to get away from him.
He is not interested in making amends and has little compassion for the suffering of others. I will not spend the few years I have left with a person like that.
And yes, I understand the nature of addiction. I also know the excuses that addicts use to manipulate those around them in order to achieve their goals
