I own the 556 and I passed on the Cube. I think the screen is the selling point and its small factor. For good old retro classic gaming, I think the cube is overpriced. Don’t get me wrong. I see that games looks great but for classic stuff, there are other cheaper alternatives. Ps2 and Game Cube are are a hit or miss like you said. The 556 is also a great handheld and the screen looks fantastic and it offers more real estate screen to move things around a like for 3DS. However, some titles require a lot of tinkering. For all these same reasons, I ordered a Retroid 4 Pro. It’s compact, more powerful, and if lucky can score one at the price of the Cube or less. I like the Cube though but not at that price tag. We’ll see during the holidays how much it costs.
This. Couldn't have said it better myself. I have nothing to add. Well said my guy
it does have analogue trigger but you need to select it.
I recommend uninstalling all emulators and then reinstalling the latest versions. Anbernic devices usually ship with old and unoptimized versions. Per game settings might also be necessary sometimes.
You should change the emulation settings on GameCube Games, there is a lot you can optimise so idividual Games run fine. Yes, out of the box this is not fine, but if you put in the work, this is also a nice unit for GameCube Emulation
Yeah I got a good amount to run fine with alittle work involved. It's not a bad unit it's really not. I bought it as a gift for someone and they love the select GCN games I put on there
I got my RG Cube specifically to play NDS and 3DS games. Imo there is no better way to play those platforms than on the Cube in handheld format. For me I don't like playing Dual Screen games on a horizontal screen or having to switch between them. Especially with the pre-installed bezels the games look awesome on the Cube. Of course running 3DS can also be hit or miss depending on the title, but overall I prefer to play NDS and 3DS games on the Cube rather than on the original handhelds, because you have much better controls. I never liked the right stick on the New 3DS and the in line shoulder buttons. Games like Dr. Kawashima and Hotel Dusk are awkward to play on the Cube, but the NDS and 3DS have plenty of cool RPG games that I'd like to play.
It genuinely seems like the best way to play NDS and 3DS I agree. Like I said it's a situational device and depending on what you are looking for it can be a great buy. If we're being completely honest I actually bought this as a gift for someone and they absolutely love the fact they can play select GCN games on the go as they are always out of the house
You have to tweak the emulator for each game for GC / Wii to run fine , the version of Dolphin that comes with it is not optimized either.
After some settings i got a bunch of games running well... the gyro issue was fixed with an update today as well .
It's a good unit but these devices are not ready to play out of the box.
Right there. What you said at the end. These aren't ready to play out of the box and I go into these with the mindset and limitations of people who don't have the means or just do know how to tweak and add games and stuff. For experienced people it's a great unit (I still think it's price is eh) but it's good for experienced users. That's my take
I agree with you , they should ship these devices being 100% setup and playable , since they advertise it can play wii and gc . It indeed can but they don't tell you that it needs the setup that them as a company should provide.
Price is indeed high also and in 4 months they will release a " revised " version of it. I will stick with this one for a long time and will only get a new one when emulation for the og Xbox gets good.
I agree on your D-pad thoughts, I would much rather have a traditional nintendo style D-pad, perhaps on top as well instead of underneath the left joystick. The handheld looks beautiful to me, the black one, love the RGB lighting, just looks so clean. Performance is strong for my use case, mainline Mario games, Mario Karts, Paper Marios and Zelda games for GC and Wii. I'm on the fence on whether I will get it, but appreciate your take on it. 🍻
Depending on what you are looking for it might be a great buy. This is just my personal experience and opinions but I appreciate the kind comment 😄 the handheld does look great tho and I like the RGB as well
I like ambernic I have the RG xxH and would like to play some ps2 and GameCube games, I
Think I’ll wait for the price to drop and the bugs to be worked out.
I've been liking the brand too. With some tweaking it's more then capable to play PS2 and GCN. Maybe not every single title but a good amount. A price drop would make this a steal
I saw in another video you can stream with these. Would you trust putting details in this thing?
For the analogue triggers to work you need to enable them in settings. Swipe down when on home screen and select ns mode (nintendo switch) or xbox mode, this also swaps the a & b buttons and x & y buttons. Xbox mode for analogue
Thanks for this info. Genuinely didn't know how to do it
Thanks for making this video. I think I might buy the RG556 instead.
Might be a better buy. Thanks for the comment 😄
Does yours have the Light bleed?
When turning up the brightness and using a black background I see a tiny amount but it's not noticable enough. It's nothing like those review units
I got it because I wanted to play 3DS. and it plays very nicely, only issue is the gyro doesn't seem to work. Kind of soft locks me in Kirby Triple Deluxe, I had to rely on RNG of the confused gyro to beat level 2. I'm hoping they patch that, because honestly, I think this device is great, and I think I got lucky without much issues, hopefully it stays that way.
Yeah I was seeing other vids about the gyro not really working which is unfortunate but it's pretty cool 3DS is able to run on here. Makes it a comfortable 2DS style handheld
They updated gyro today
@shiryu105 oh nice! I was hoping there would be an update soon
@@RetroGamerReviews yeah, I actually got it set up, works perfectly now.
W🎉
I’m stuck should I get this or the Odin 2?
Really depends on what you are looking for. But with the Odin 2 having snapdragon 2 it will play PS2 and GCN as well as other things much better but the cube does really well for what it is
@@RetroGamerReviews Mostly I’m going for is ps1 and ps2 also GC
@@nostradomas1337 Odin 2, hands down.
Every handheld after the Odin 2 is RUclipsr fodder.
This device fully outputs 16x9 widescreen content via it's USB-C port. There are connected device options in the settings. Every RUclips review of this device is abysmal at best.
Unfortunately I didn't have a cable to test this but I appreciate your comment on the matter
It doesn't just work. Taki tested the video out with it not working for him. His monitor is a little unusual, but it's not guaranteed. I haven't checked ETA Prime, definitely wouldn't call his reviews, but he's pretty consistent about showing these things docked (video out).
@washuai I watched that review too
Do GC games run poor even on 1x resolution?
With some tinkering you can get alot of games to run fine but all of my test were at 1x and I had hit and miss games but it could be that I don't know how to properly tweak dolphin and android. That's just my experience
I was quite psyched for it but this has kinda put me off.
NGL I was quite hyped for the RG Cube as well until I saw the first review units and got mine. It is capable of impressive things but I feel like a lot of tinkering and trail and error is involved
If I was you, I'd return it. This is not for you, clearly.
