I've had Mouse Guard on my shelf for years, really excited that is has Foundry support too!

That is one thing that I loved when I played FATE for a while in that the aspects for my character would cause endless drama and roleplay. A few times I would feel guilty for the complications that arose, but it was brilliant roleplay.

I'm not a huge fan of Burning Wheel, but this game (and its setting) is GREAT. Read Peterson's graphic novels if you haven't already--they do not disappoint and the art is amazing.

36:23 it is important to acknowledge that in this game failure does not mean you are unskilled at what you set out to do, but you do not get the intent of your roll.

It would really interesting to see you read through Mausritter, and maybe make comparisons with this game

2:02:50 I kinda love this, as I believe that others should be able to change player character's mind, views or position. To me that is part of character growth.
Then again, I have couple of players who are like stone and will never change their minds once they are set on their ways, causing multiple pointless arguments which eventually end in them agreeing reluctantly and then being buttholes about the whole thing (especially if something goes wrong).

Small thing: Ob is obstacle, not objective :)

An interesting component of Burning Wheel suite of games is that Burning Wheel is, in a sense, stripped down. That’s not how most think of it, but most BWHQ games have an extra rule or several that really really change the game. BW is open ended, torchbearer has the grind! Burning Empires has scenes structure.

It's true... BW isn't truly that complex if you just view the Hub... when you start adding in the Spokes that's when the complexity really ratchets up.

@@KnightsofLastCall It absolutely can (I run a lot of BW, it's my favorite game), but I think that the lack of a required spoke really changes the game drastically and makes it in many ways easier. The Grind in torchbearer is so central that it shifts all of the other BW concepts around it. Burning Empires central conflict pushes play so hard.
I'm not intending on disagreeing with you, in general, I just think that Burning Wheel is over maligned for being "difficult". It IS difficult, but it's more philosophically difficult than difficult to play. I think Torchbearer is MUCH harder than BW, and there are even ways in which I think Mouse Guard is trickier.

It’s interesting comparing this stripped down conflict system with Burning Empires, where it feels like they deliberately tried to put full strategy back in, to great success (in my opinion), but more difficult to learn.

@@KnightsofLastCallYou only add the complex systems as you find you need them. The game is modular in this sense that it starts out simple and becomes more complex.
