    I had the G1 Gaming 1070, and foolishly bought the Gigabyte 1080 Ti Gaming OC (runs ~77C @ 61% fan speed) - It's loud!!! i've sent it back and bought a strix 1080 ti. If you buy any "tier 1" cards with basic heatsinks and the standard fan's you have a hot card with noisy fans. Its worth paying the extra for a tier 2 card such as Aorus, Strix , Gaming X, or AMP extreme. cheers for the vid bro.

    84 degrees is normal for a GTX1080 Ti

  • @blakemcclaskey2316
    @blakemcclaskey2316 7 лет назад +6

    This worked well for me. Set temp target to 77 degrees. Set power limit to 100% (or leave it at stock). Set gpu clock offset to + 76 mhz. This brought me from 83c in unigine valley to 77c. Keep in mind that this card is a monster. You really don't need 1950 mhz with this thing. I am not very happy with the temps either but it's not as bad as it could be.

    • @bloosbelly
      @bloosbelly 7 лет назад

      Mantis Toboggan are you using afterburner to edit the gpu? At factory settings in Witcher 3 mine will heat up to 86c almost immediately after leaving the menu.

    • @blakemcclaskey2316
      @blakemcclaskey2316 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah mine did too in the witcher 3 before I did the changes. Yes I use afterburner. You also have to set a customer fan curve so that the fans spin at 100% as soon as it hits 70 degrees.

    • @Unsmooth_Edwarda
      @Unsmooth_Edwarda 7 лет назад +1

      No point of setting temp target down, it will just throttle for you to keep it at that temp which sucks

    • @blakemcclaskey2316
      @blakemcclaskey2316 7 лет назад +1

      just try it for yourself. I was somehow getting a higher clock speed the entire time with dramatically lower temps. couldn't break 77c and clock speed stayed in the 1900's. I don't understand it but trust me and try it.

  • @ivymike10mt
    @ivymike10mt 7 лет назад +2

    You already know that both fans work independent? Check if both fan are spinning well.
    There is GPU and VRM fan, and they controlled by external application called MSI Fan Control.
    Try it out. U can download from official MSI site.
    I also recommend not using MSI Afterburner for fan control.

    • @patrickmurphy8619
      @patrickmurphy8619  7 лет назад

      Martin Kincl they used the same heat sink on the 1070 and 1080 they just tried to cheap out. They changed the gaming x model from the 1080 to 1080 ti. More power more heat

    • @MartinKincl1993
      @MartinKincl1993 7 лет назад +1

  • @EasternUNO

    Hi bro, your temperatures are normal in my opinion because of those reasons:
    1) It's card with 250W TDP and even more wattage, because you overclocked it by a lot. In stock it should be something around 1648 MHz.
    2) Your case seems it's just mid-tower, so heat will not go out so easily
    3) Your 1070 had significally lower temps, because it's just 170W card
    I am owner of overclocked reference 980 Ti and when playing Andromeda for example, my card is at 83 degrees after 3 - 5 minutes of gaming. Than I see that GPU clock is decreasing from 1378 MHz to 1278 in order to keep the temperature under 83 degrees. And 83 degrees is normal temperature when such a powerful cards are under 100% load. It's not dangerous, it's not damaging your VGA and you shouldn't worry :) Card developers know what they are doing and if it's not hitting more than 90 -
    100 degrees you should be ok :) I remember that many years ago I had shitty notebook from asus and when I was gaming, temperatures reached 105 degrees :DDD In that case PC just switched off in order to avoid internal damage of the system. Today I am going to buy this card you showed us in this video and I will tell you my experiences with it)

      I hear you but I also took the side case off and it still was hot and with gpu boost 3.0 the actual clock it near 1890 msz stock. Well find out if it's the cooler I ordered a aftermarket one just taking forever to get it

    • @EasternUNO
      @EasternUNO 7 лет назад

      Hi bro! As I told you, I bought it and I didn't change any clock. Under load I saw there was something like 1965 MHz on Core and after 5 minutes of gaming it has reached 83 degrees and GPU clock started to decrease to 1867 MHz or something like that. I also heard somebody that it helps to remove the heatsing and apply there your own thermal paste, so I'm gonna try it now :D

    • @EasternUNO
      @EasternUNO 7 лет назад

      I also wanted to say that I set fans to 100% and it's not as noisy as my previous reference 980 Ti. It's definitely not 4k RPM :D

    I'm still using the MSI 980 Ti Gaming which came with the Twin Frozr 5 heatsink, used to get pretty hot as well so I replaced it with the Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV and the highest temperature I've seen ever since is 64 degrees celcius during the Witcher 3 at 1440p with V-Sync off, overvolted and heavily overclocked as well, amazing. It's really easy to install as well as to take apart for cleaning, if you don't mind removing the stock cooler you should give that a try. 80c is normal, if you want better temps then get water cooling. It will also help your performance. Also try placing your case somewhere else besides the floor, because it can get caught up with dust and that could be the reason why your experiencing these "issues" . Try using an compressed air and clean out your pc, It should help it out. And 1950+ mhz while doing a benchmark is pretty damn good, You shouldn't be complaining about that at all. If that was my gpu I would be the happiest gamer here. And when i got enough money I would slap a water block on it and use water cooling. Here is a link if you want to get water cooling: @t

      Usually just replacing the thermal paste can reduce the temperature on your graphics card quite significantly. So you could always try that first. I have the Zotac AMP Extreme and it is pushing about 45-55C at 4K at ~50% fan speed, 2076 MHz (core) 12 GHz (memory)... in games like Witcher 3, Mass Effect Andromeda, Rise of the Tomb Raider and so forth. Your regular AMP version should be able to cool itself below 70C at least. Though, of course it depends on your case setup.
      A friend of mine has an AMD 290x and it was running at 94C, 100% fan speed. By just replacing the thermal paste the temps were reduced to 65C at 100% or 72C at 60%. That's a dramatic improvement if you ask me. We used Cooler Master MasterGel Maker (Nano Diamond) on his GPU.
      Generally it seems like the factory puts to little thermal paste on the GPU during assembly. I can generally recommend that you keep the front or bottom of the case as clear as possible (such as hard drive bays).

      Hi, my I already tried to open my case side panel & put a stand fan in front with the room AC running. Still no difference. Even at 100% fan speed it would reach 87C so WTF is going on? I did return the card & still waiting for the update from the computer store I bought this from. I don't want to open the card because it might void the warranty. This is not cheap so they better replace this or let me upgrade to the Amp Extreme.

    • @karilyn1094
      @karilyn1094 7 лет назад

      I hope you have better luck with the replacement! Though 87C degrees some awfully wrong for a card of that caliber.
      I replaced the thermal paste on my 1080 Ti AMP Extreme with [Cooler Master] Mastergel Maker Nano Diamond. In Deus Ex - Mankind Divided I am getting 57C at 50% fan speed and whooping 50C at 100%. The three fans on the AMP Extreme are not very noisy so playing games at 100% fan speed is perfectly viable with speakers and open headphones. Idle temperature is around 31C degrees.
      I have the NZXT H630 case with two front 200mm fans, two 200mm top, one 140mm rear, two 140mm bottom and one 140mm fan on the hard drive case underneath the 5.25" bays.

Ans i to have a good case, with 3 front fans, 2 on top one on back, and the cooler. its like ur's Pull "N" push Yes? . Now i also have a Zotac mini 4GB one-fan card 1050ti. I tell ya that card can run for as long as i want, playing Hard core non stop gaming, and stays cool under pressure. dont know why some of the more Higher end cards get HOT. Hate to break it to you... 3 fans... only 2 in the front and a restricted flow water cooler in the back butted right up against the wall.
    You have a shit case and shit airflow. Yes, this card is notorious for floating around 70c, let alone this set up. Pulling the side panel off is proven to only drop temps a few degrees and in some cases is worse because you break the natural vacuum and the hot air just floats around.
    "Mass Effect Andromeda runs these cards harder than anything else!" You cant be serious...

      korey mcintire well I hate to break it to you but since then a lot is changed I got a Cooler Master half case now which is a case huge on air flow and it's not butted against anything anymore and still the temps only improved a few degrees from where they were when I had the side panel off of that old case. That cards stock cooler was garbage, multiple Publications did videos on that after I did.

    "NVIDIA GPUs are designed to operate reliably up to their maximum specified operating temperature. This maximum temperature varies by GPU, but is generally in the 105C range (refer to the nvidia.com product page for individual GPU specifications). If a GPU hits the maximum temperature, the driver will throttle down performance to attempt to bring temperature back underneath the maximum specification. If the GPU temperature continues to increase despite the performance throttling, the GPU will shutdown the system to prevent damage to the graphics card. " - Nvidia.

Regular, non-overclocked. I am happy without Overclocking. The card already comes with oc and thats fine for me. When I played over an hour Ghost Recon Wildlands at Ultra Settings in 1440p, max temps went up to 70 degrees, fans max 1680 rpm.

      So do you think the temps that I got are still ok, considering what you said about the card ? I am not going towards 4K anytime soon, I just want the card to run what I do with it, fine. As a very casual gamer (by now) i am happy without all that overclocking. As long as the games I play still run fine with a reasonable fps and it looks nice, I am ok. I normally never spent so much on a graphics card, not my style usually. I tend to stick with the middle class, which usually works for me. If it werent for the issues i had with my old 970 GTX, i probably wouldnt have switched at all. Now it has to last for a while for me.

    MY SAMSUNG LAPTOP GOES UP TO 140- 150 celsius and i have since 2012 and it just works fine i just change it the termal compaun every 2 or 3 months just because i have it on 24 7 im actually like WTF this laptop was sent by the lord i just dont know but just change the termal compaun. don worry just change the termal pads from your MSI to new ones and dont forget to change the termal paste form the main chip which most of the time is just located in the center of all GPUs. Remember 80 or 100 celciuos is nothing compare to 140-150 c which in this case is my laptop. just change the termal to new ones and you will be fine. I hope all this BS makes sense.👍

      francisco santos almost no way it's running that hot as Intel CPUs will shut them self down at 105c. but temps are much more important since gpu boost 2 and 3 came around as the hotter you get the slower your card runs

      I know how CPUs AND GPUs work but in the case of my laptop i just do not have works to say. But that's what it is. I wish you could see it so you can believe me. I know how Hardware and software works but like i say i have not words how to explain this. All I can say is that I have a HOT LAPTOP.

      francisco santos 100c on a laptop would still feel hot. what software are you using to see 150c? as there has not been a CPU chip I know of that will handle that heat. any that I know of shut down at 105c or less 150c would mean you CPU would be hitting dang 302F and would be getting close to melting the plastic around the CPU as most melting points of plastics used is not much more than that
