Your research is dead wrong about the outer seal this is where these tractors get a bad rap of having poor brakes. The issue is folks are two cheap to go after leaking outer seals (the original problem) when the job is preformed correctly they have great brakes. It only takes a drop are two of oil to ruin a good brake shoe Do the job right it will last another 40 years with good brakes. It is quite a project to replace the outer seals man up and do it life will be good.
I remember changing the brake pads on our 3000 4-5 years ago on the left side, never got around to doing the right because of those springs! They were a real PITA.
+farmboy30117 Yeah. ive done a few brake shoes in my days as a mechanic and i've never run across any as strong as those. lol
The trick is to pull the brake shoe over the axle hub and twist a little to the spring that will take tension off of spring to remove
yep, i repaired them in the 80´s and they were alwas good for trouble and sometimes accidents ! The wet brakes from the 4000 and above were very very good and some hold the whole life of the tractor !!!

How did you get the brake cross shaft through the hole from the front, I did not think that it would fit through?
John Crowley if I'm understanding what you're asking I believe the rod came out of the backside of the axle.
Idaman71044 Thanks for the reply, I am currently in the process of changing the seals on my 3000, great video, and very informative, there is a handbrake on my one which is not allowing me to disassemble the cross shaft. But fiddled it around enough to get the half shaft off. Thanks again
I was wondering of you could let me know what brand seal and maybe a part number you used? I am in the process of changing the seals on my 3000 and I cannot find the right seals. The seal I took out is a made in England seal and the part number is none existent from what I can find. Thanks
Did you ever get a part number? I'm also dealing with an old english tractor and part number and can't locate the replacement part number.

@@chadbrantley839 nice job I'm at mine at mine atm need to get the old seal out will probably have to cut it
@@MrDavid2124 I took an old screwdriver and used a hammer to drive it into the seal then pried it out. Its got a steel casing around the seal if I rember correctly
