Lyrics:
You know I need your love
You've got that hold over me
Long as I've got your love
You know that I'll never leave
When I wanted you to share my life
I had no doubt in my mind
And it's been you, woman
Right down the line
I know how much I lean on you
Only you can see
The changes that I've been through
Have left a mark on me
You've been as constant as a Northern Star
The brightest light that shines
It's been you woman right down the line
I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything
I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of telling you
That every day I'm loving you so much more
Cause you believed in me
Through my darkest night
Put something better inside of me
You brought me into the light
Threw away all those crazy dreams
I put them all behind
And it was you woman
Right down the line
I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything
I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of telling you
That every day I'm loving you so much more
If I should doubt myself, if I'm losing ground
I won't turn to someone else
They'd only let me down
When I wanted you to share my life
I had no doubt in my mind
And it's been you woman
Right down the line

I'm 63... we had the very best music, this and many more.
Dam near 59 and I’m feeling ya, well put!!!
I’m also 63 and this brings back such great memories ❤
Almost 63!😢😂😂😂😂
68 years old here, born in Glasgow, lived in Paisley not far from where Gerry Rafferty lived. Grew up in Canada. In the late '70s I became a Rock 'n Roll DJ in cabarets in Western Canada, when disco was hot and almost all DJs were becoming disco beat mixers...I focused on mixing rock and roll with the popular disco dance tunes. Gotta say, Mr. Rafferty got me practically on the first note of every one of his songs. To this day I listen to his music first when I'm taking a break and relaxing. In fact, what brought me here today was this, my favorite song, because I am making a music video for the love of my live and performing this on green screen and inserting me into my own music video version of Right Down The Line as it effing nails my relationship with my wife. We have agreed years ago that I only sing in the shower if she is NOT home. I love to sing, well, I have to use that term loosely. Words come out, just not in any form of pleasing fashion to anyone in the vicinity. Probably why I became a talk show host in radio rather than a lead singer in a rock band. Can't wait to see her face when I spring this on her. She knows this my favorite song because I played it for her when we first met so many years ago, before we were married I said honey this is my song for you. This is still my song for her...
@@FlyingScot911 that’s really lovely ❤️
This is my favorite Love Song, and my partner agreed. We wanted it to be the first dance at our wedding. He passed across the Veil in 2021, but we remain deeply connected. He sends me signs every day, and today, as soon as I woke up, I turned on the news, which I normally don't watch. And for about 2 seconds I heard this song❤ thank you Gerry
This song ❤❤100/100
I woke up and suddenly heard this song in my head...
🙏🏽☮️TRUST & BELIEVE,WE R ALL BLESSED 2 B A BLESSING 2 EACH OTHER☝️💜🙏🏽AMEN🦋
Sorry to hear about your loss. Keep him in your heart. Your see each other again. He'll probably be playing this song when you do. God bless you exceedingly.
Im so very sorry for your loss. I lost my soulmate last January & this song reminds me so much of him & the things he’d always say to me. God do i miss him. 💔
Great tune
I hear this everyday at the home Depot I work at, good stuff
This song undoubtedly says EXACTLY the right words and sentiments of a man still in love. God Bless that man for this song. His Baker Street song was good, but THIS goes right to your heart.
Growing up my dad used to sing this in the car, to my mom.
Hearing it as an adult and feeling the same way about my wife makes it extra special.
We'll said.
Me too
You have a great father and role model 💯🫡
Same here, this song is special because of my parents. 😊
So sweet! ❤
I turned 80 in July this year of 2024 but this song returns me to my youth! Thanks Gerry ♡
🇨🇦 ❤
Almost 70 her
Such perfection and clarity in his voice. A song you can feel and remember forever. ❤
Great to see another person listening to this great song at a similar time. 😊
1978 to 2023 and still listening...... If only all of us could go back to those good ole days... Who's with me.....?
I am! Only it would put me back in my mom. This came out (sorry BoSox fans) in Bucky F Dent's time in the spotlight.
Me. Time of innocence, laughter, and fun..loved those days..yes I would go back and not change a thing

One of my favorites!!

A master songwriter and talent. Underestimated and overlooked for too long. A truly heart-felt and beautiful song.
My friend died. 22 year friendship. Right down the line. We leaned on each other. The road continues. He believed in me through my darkest night.
my deepest condolences
so sorry for your loss
thats horrible i dont wish that apon anybody. he'll be waiting for your arrival eagerly in heaven
So spiritually cleansing
This song is a masterpiece ✨
Absolutely ❤
When you listen to an absolute classic like this you realise just how talented these legends of the past were.
Especially since we don’t have talent like this anymore.
Music died in 1990.
@@cindy-mq6pl But we still have Richard Ashcroft❗️
So classic songs have mistakes that makes it good. Unlike today's trash
This is one of those timeless songs that no matter what year you're born, you can't help but love it.
Masterpiece. One of the greatest love songs ever written.
Thank you. Because it doesn't matter if you are married or not. If you have a Loved one in your life. This song applies.
❤verdade!
Yes! When I hear this song I think of my German girlfriend. I still miss her, still love her.
Here is what you are not told and warned about when you are in the military, that at some point during your time in service, you WILL get that "dear John" letter or phone call. That is one of the unsated prices you will pay.
Elizabeth, thank you for those good times and happy memories. I think of you every time I hear this song.
My mother loved this guy. Miss you mom rip ❤
sorry for your loss
Anyone who is in a healthy relationship can totally relate to this song. This song sums up my relationship with my wife. She is my rock, my biggest supporter and my better half. She is always there for me, good or bad, up or down. So lucky to have found her, can't imagine living my life without her. And Gerry Rafferty put all of those sentiments into this beautiful piece of music. Thank you Gerry for summing up for us what we all want to say to our life partners. We couldn't have said it better.
Exactly right sir. We are fortunate men.
That is great! How and where did you meet?
How beautiful. I know exactly how you feel. I found it as well!
45 years. I hear ya brother.
We must have married the same woman.56 years and growing old gracefully together. Tim M.4/66/2023
This a perfect song. Simple, but not trivial. A straightforward expression of how he felt about a woman who didn't understand his deep appreciation and unmatched love for her.
I am 63 and still like the songs of the 70s
70's/80's were a great time to be alive !
Had this woman in my life and did not appreciate her . But I thank God for every second he gave me with her . Fly free my love . ❤
❤🎉🎉😂😊 sorry for your loss
So sorry
Marcos, its coach Mark hope all is well brother!
Today hasnt been that special baby;we cooked outside but always an argument between our children and mysels;Sending all my love up to heaven and kisses too I miss you so very much it hurts;Eight years now;I have a pillow which I call Buddy my love that is all i hug these days or will ever till God brings us together again

Got teary eyed. I hope my husband and I make it there!
I was 16 and he was 21, been married to him now for 54 years. Marriage will work if you want it too. Its gets even better when you grow old together.
Awe dayum... you got me teary eyed. That's just so beautiful and makes me hopeful. ❤
Says You!
Absolutely agree. I was 26 and my dear wife was 19 when we married in 1980. Our 44th wedding anniversary is in a few months and we are still on our honeymoon. It's been a magical experience for which I am truly grateful.
Awwww…. How I wish I could find this kind of love. 💕 I’m 36 and still have faith

"If I doubt myself, if I'm losing ground, I won't turn to someone else, they'd only let me down"!❤
This song is to you Lord 😊 right down the line it's been you i need your love,i lean on you,you have been constant as a northern star, the brighrest star that shines 😮
The first time I heard Gerry Rafferty, my heart melted. Everytime time I hear Gerry sing
my heart still melts. Thank you, Sweet Gerry for allowing me to hear you.🌟
My hubby and I celebrate 13 years together the 23rd of this month. The father of my 3 beautiful kids. My best friend for the past 22 years. Right down the line. ❤
Awesome!
God bless
My dad shared all of the best classic rock and oldies songs with me as a kid and now I share them with my kids ❤ This music is timeless.
Those who grew up during this time are extremely lucky. It was a time of true love and deep connection. You could put on a record and dance or just sit and cuddle. No phones in your hand to distract you from eachother. Just the two of you and the beautiful music playing.
The very best!!!! A real talent! Great great loss when he passed away. 70s ROCK!
This song was in heavy airplay during one of the best summers of my life. Summer of 1978. It always brings back that great set of memories. Of course it's a great song.
Yep. '78 was my first summer with a car. I'd gotten my license in October 77. "City to City" and Stone's "Some Girls" !!
every time i lesining this track i can't stop replying.for me one of the best track lesining ever
Best summer of my life too! It's the year I was born! Although I don't remember it, I'm glad to look back on the excellent music, such as this song, that came out then!
I was a freshman at college that year. Wonderful memories that I cherish. 💓
I was an au-pair when this song came out. It brings back so many memories, mostly of confusion and horrible homesickness, but at the same time the best year ever. I did not know that then 😊
Ich habe es im Urlaub auf Schiermonnikoog gehört. "Strandbar", entspannte Menschen, Wind, Sonne, ein Zauber lag in der Luft. Toll.
" You've been as constant as a northern star, the brightest light that shines "
Ahh 1978, pregnant with my first child, this song and pregnancy hormones embedded a love for my then husband that lives on to this day. RIP
Anyone in 2024 still listening to this timeless classic?❤❤
Of course ❤🎉
Me!!!!!
Every chance I get!!!
since 1978
This song was playing when hanging out with my older brothers at the cottage. They made me take a swig of my first Labatt's 50 stubby. Such great summer vibes!

City to city without doubt, is an album for all serious music collectors, I have all gerry's albums, and this one still stands out as the no 1.

This holds a special place in my heart because it takes me back to 1983, shopping with my parents at Kmart. They ALWAYS had the best tunes playing! I really miss those at the time seemingly insignificant moments. Now they mean everything. I'm 47 now and I'm so thankful for those times with my mom and dad 💗 Love you dad! 10/14/42-11/15/24

Gerry Rafferty is a mood, and I've been living in it for several years. Thankful and grateful that he had the words to say what many cannot.
Thanks for this beautiful song Gerry. My wife and I were married 5/21/2022 and this was our first dance. Nothing expresses love better than a song. This one will live on and on.
Thank you Gerry for this magnificent song! Achingly beautiful and timeless❤.
It always reminds me of my parents. Happy 63rd Wedding Anniversary, Mum and Dad! ❤
Probably one of most beautiful songs of all time
This is my Grandma and my two girls :) I dedicate this to you both. As your love is so true and right down the line ❤
My partner and I agreed this was the best love song ever and we would play it after our wedding ...but he passed in February 2021. However, we are twin flames so we remained connected and committed to each other across the veil. Recently I learned how to visit him and when I entered the tunnel between our Dimensions I heard this song echoing through the air. ❤

One of the best voices and writing ability wow . One of the best things about the 70s and I'm so lucky to have lived it , even though I was only 15 years old. This is why I started drumming.

An absolute Galic poet what an absolute ball buster Gerry God bless son.
Those 60s,70s and 80s songs. Love them.
When this song came out here in Brazil, I couldn't get enough of it. My eyes watered every time I heard it. Rest in peace Gerry. God bless you. Genius!!
I think this is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written in the world of popular music. Simple but meaningful lyrics encompassed in a wonderful and warm melody. It is utter perfection to my ears in such a way that other opinions don't matter to me. Yet the amazing thing is that it never made the charts at all - at least not here in the U.K. Nevertheless, it is still a classic written by an artist of sheer class.
Thankyou so much for this masterpiece, Gerry. R.I.P.

To find a gem like this that expresses how you feel about someone you love is simply magical indeed. 💯
I heard this song at 12 and still love it a 50. Totally underrated as timeless!
My wife and I bought city to city , back in 1978, and this song was one of those on it, such a class album, Gerry didn't do anything cheap, He was a perfectionist, and we miss him,

One of many magic and brilliant works from this extraordinary musician
My dad plays this song when he wakes up to get ready for work. This is the right song to wake up to and start the day. He always says it’s good to wake up feeling refresh and this song does that.
Well he obviously hasn't taken copious amounts of drugs to wake up while listening to Ambitionz Az a Ridah
Thank you for uploading this gem ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ Love the psychedelic flair. God bless you, brother. ✝️👍👍
These are the words we wish to sing to our Beloved. It doesn't matter whom you love, just sing it. I sing it everyday to my Belinda, as my son who died from a fentanyl overdose as did my first wife too. such things!!! Just sing your heart out!!!!
City to City was such a great album with some fine album cuts that never got airplay
yes
What a song, such an underated singer, god bless you Gerry ❤❤
This song doesn't give up on itself and adds those well written extra verses and bridges, clocking in at a non-radio friendly 4:31. Every part is well thought out, the key changes are smooth as a fine wine, and yeah, it really has to be one of the very best pop love songs from this period.
I was only born in 88, but my parents taught me good quality music, not like these days. I hope to share it with my kids so they can love it just as much as me.
Mr Rafferty is highly underrated
late 70’s magic ❤
We are getting fewer and fewer.....I would not trade with any moment on earth... when music brought so many people together
I'm 51 yrs old now. I heard these songs back in the 70s. I was a little boy. I cherish these songs from my day. Always will... the memories I have with these songs are unforgettable.
