  • Square waves are found in many electronic circuits, and it is important to understand them so that any issues arising from the circuits using them can be resolved quickly and effectively.
Square waves are seen in very many electronic circuits. Although the term square wave describes a very specific waveform, they can be considered as part of a more generic waveform called a rectangular waveform or even a digital waveform.
Find out all about the characteristics of square waves in this video: aspects including their time period, frequency, rise time, etc.
It is also important to understand how the amplitude of a square wave is measured and the limits required for logic circuits and why a voltage window is used for the high and low states. An example is given for the 5V TTL logic series showing how the windows fort he input and output are different to ensure that the high and low states of the square wave, rectangular wave, etc, are properly defined.
Even find out how square waves consist of a series of sine waves of with harmonics at odd multiples of the fundamental.
Also check out or top tips when using square waves in electronic circuits: some of the pitfalls, and issues that need to be thought about.

rise and fall times give an implication of curvature.

Certainly you won’t get such a fast rise time if the bandwidth is limited and you don’t get the higher frequency components.
