    Why does the Toronto media think Matthews is worth $14m? MacKinnon is a better player and his new cap hit is $12.6M; that should be the ceiling for Matthews. But seeing as I'm not a Leaf's fan, I hope they give him $14M+!

If Pavel Datsyuk were around Syd those years they faced the Red wings, 87 would not have won those cups. Look it up. Datsyuk whooped him.

    It's hilarious how unspeakable it is to trade Matthews. It's disrespectful to other players in the league. I would take Hischier and Bratt from New Jersey for Matthews and Marner, let alone Hughes and Meier. There are other forwards and defensemen who contribute as much or more to winning hockey out there than the beloved Matthews and Marner. Sell high. Don't get locked in to crazy contracts with no trade clauses with guys that have shown what they are when it matters.

  • @almVancouver
    @almVancouver Год назад +3

    What genius gave Matthews and Marner no move clauses while paying them tops in the league? Oh, the same guy who got rid of an affordable hard nosed 2nd line center for Kerfoot and replace him at twice the price with Tavares. Huh, there's no way this same GM brings on injury prone goalies only to pay valuable futures to get rid of these goalies. Or, paying a 1st to get rid of one season of Marleau, yet Marleau apparently had enough value to be traded after the fact.
    Fans think there's no future without Dubas at the helm. Sadly, if he comes back and trades just one of the core...let's say Marner or Nylander, it's really no different then running it back another season.

    • @almVancouver
      @almVancouver Год назад +3

      How many futures did Dubas give up for one playoff of Foligno and O'Reilly? Oh right, Foligno barely played and ROR has no plans to return here, even if Leafs could afford him. How about Muzzin...what was the price for getting him?
      Dubas isn't half the GM many think. Simply look at the team he inherited and where they are now. This team could have been a perennial contender, but Dubas married himself to the core...no matter what kind of effort they gave. Only now, when his job is gone is he even contemplating running back something different. Yet, as I stated in my other comment, simply trading one of the core IS running it back.
      What a mess. New GM and coach is really needed. Yet, it's the Leafs, they'll end up making Leafy decisions.

    • @almVancouver
      @almVancouver Год назад +3

      Everyone and their dog knew the Leafs needed a 1st pairing D back in 2018. Nope, not under Dubas' watch. He wanted another overpriced forward and bargain bin shopping forever more.

  • @bbvududaddi7216

    To buyout Murray only costs the Leafs $687,500 on the cap this yr and $2,000,000 next yr when the cap is projected to go up considerably. There's no need to give up a high quality asset to move trade him. If it's a late pick to move him fine, otherwise a buyout is an acceptable plan B.

  • @ldhorricks
    @ldhorricks Год назад +1

    In so many ways the Toronto Market and everything that goes with it....Media, Fans, an undeserved and desperate sense of entitlement... (and all the pressure and expectation that it brings) is what seems to drive poor management and hockey decision making. I know It's a different game and business model now to the days of GM's like Bow-Tie Bill Torey but the Isles team of the 80's is a text book example of how a team should be built and coached to win. The Isles had to suffer 5 years of heartbreaking losses (4 conference finals and 1 conf semi)....in series they could have and maybe should have won, in order to learn to win...and win as a team...to have that indomitable mentality that made them winners. Adding Butch Goring in a steal of a trade was the last piece of the puzzle that got them their. But they already had guys like Nystrom, Trottier, Bourne, Potvin, Henning, Lorimar, Morrow, Gordie Lane, a young D. Sutter, Tonelli, Gillies, and of course a 50+ goal scorer in Bossey who took all sorts of abuse in front of the net. Winning formuals come in many shapes and forms...and yes its different league, different game and and different business challenges, but that is a team that should be in the first chapter of any GM's handbook. In some ways it feel like there is this underlining current of the Leafs wanting to be a dynasty that gets in the way of them doing the hard...gut check work...of being a team that simply really hard to play against game in and game out. I don't think this current corp of players is capable of being hard enough on themselves to learn from losing....not in a way that Bossey, Trottier, Nystrom, Tonelli, Potvin, Smith and everyone on that Isles team was...and they dont have those player's character. I keep hearing this term player's coach...it drives me mad...talk to players from the Islanders or Canadiens of those 9 years of combined cup wins...None would say Arbour or Bowman were "players coaches". Players these days are so entitled and enabled...almost to the point of being "uncoachable"...makes me wonder about the situation in Calgary in terms of Players not wanting to be be coached a certain way. But it's the teams with the most, or perhaps best combination of character that end up winning the cup. Tampa Bay is a good recent example for GM's and ownership to pay attention to. Leafs had a team with character in 93 and 94 and they came close...this recent Leafs team cant hold a candle to that Leafs team...a team that had only 3 players over 50pts in the 93 season. I also get why a lot of players don't like to play in Canadian Markets...and often flourish after leaving a Canadian market to play where there isn't the 24/7 scrutiny....It's often the same for coaches...look at Paul Maurice who is flourishing in Florida after being fired in Toronto and leaving on his own accord in Winnipeg...just some thoughts.

      its not a curse...its an entire culture issue that exists in that Market and organisation...starting back to the circus of the Ballard years...a culture that Shanahan and Babcock were supposed to change...and they did to some extent bringing the Leafs to respectability...but as wrote above...the media culture, fan culture...undeserved sense of entitlement to be a dynasty team gets in the way of building a culture of character that it takes to win.
