An unexpected but welcome surprise to see famous wrestler and powerlifter Mark Henry take time out of his day to help host the podcast in place of Pete! Very Cool 😊
Boeing's troubles go back to when it "purchased" McDonnell Douglas, in 1997. Or, as was commonly stated, “McDonnell Douglas bought Boeing with Boeing's money.” In the end, the management from McDonnell Douglas and their financial-based approach to everything started running the company, replacing Boeing's former engineering-based approach. And the history of the company since then shows you the results of the change in so-called "management."
This is Netflix narrative, perfect fit for casual audience. But even my friend who is in the aviation hobby and worked in an airline Flight Operations also believed it for lack of better corporate affair understanding. My father, who interned in a giant Japanese paper mill in Shizuoka, once met a fellow engineer from Mazda, and also from ANA and JAL back in 1980s. Back then, they already complained about Boeing's level of quality, especially fit and finish. It was long before the merger, and the workmanship is already deemed troublesome by major Japanese airlines. Granted, they all used to operate mostly Boeing jets, before ANA took on A320s in early 1990s, and JAL absorbing JAS and their A300s in early 2000s. Maybe... maybe McDonnell Douglas worsened that problem in Boeing. But McDonnell Douglas themselves produced quite a lot of legendary planes like F-4 Phantom and the unbeaten F-15 Eagle, flown from USAF to JASDF. Boeing is not without their own fault. That infamous 737 rudder issues with Parker-Hannifin (single point of failure), the 747 front cargo door latch, and others - casual audience are oblivious to these. But Dc-10 "flying coffin" stuff is something that even Illuminaughti can pick up. Is Boeing today not a marvellous engineering company? The 787 is a magnificent new kind of composite airliner with hyper focus on efficiency. Largely electric plane, big windows, nice cabin, and that underappreciated turbulence-alleviating algorithm with inboard ailerons actively dampening any shaky movements. The 737MAX is nothing sorts of magical for Airbus fanboy like me. Coming from the inferior outdated platform that is 737, it managed to get incredibly close to A320neo given the limitations. They used the same engine (CFM LEAP-1B), however they reduced the diameter due to ground clearance - reducing the engine's efficiency compared to neo (CFM LEAP-1A). As a result, the engineers have to tweak the entire airframes, new wings, new winglets (split winglets), redone tailpipe, redone tailfins, v-stab, what nots. That thing still flies although with some issues. Today, ANA is going all-Airbus narrowbodies and all-Boeing widebodies (biggest 787 operator in the world, except those 3 A380s exclusively going to Hawaii). JAL is the reverse, they are all Boeing narrowbodies and mostly-Airbus widebodies (except their 787s).
Pete, if you read the comments: Once you get the Century it's worth jumping on the Century FB groups and asking around for a JDM/Toyota specialist near you. It might also be worth getting a full inspection. I bought a sight unseen BMW a few years back and an inspection flagged a lot of things that weren't listed by the seller. No stress though, you'll love it once you're driving it.
Natsuki is a legend tho. I remember when you showed Natsuki a Chav and he said he wanted to make friends with them. One of many reasons why he's better than us and knows everything. He's open minded, slightly mental and totally fearless.
Not quite relevant to this video but I wanted to say Joey brought a very nice positive Energy for this journey across Japan series. On the Trash Taste podcast he sometimes comes across a cynical so it was very nice to see his jolly side :D
Probably a bit unfair to Natsuki - pilsners er from the Czech Republic… specially the city Pilsen. Plus the area has a lot of charm and old cool architecture in Czechia, so there’s pretty good reason to go have a beer there 😊
I'm learning japanese because the language is so different than english. I find kanji very rewarding to learn. I like to watch your channel because it gives a very authentic view from a japanese perspective.
Sadly aircraft incidents happen. Some are small and some are huge. For instance, my grandfather worked for De Havilland at the time of the Comet disasters of 1954. He was tasked with investigating the cut-outs in the design fuselage (i.e. all the necessary holes. Windows, doors and cable holes etc.) His work greatly contributed to the discovery of metal fatigue and resulting micro-fractures in the corners of the rectangular windows that lead to the aircraft breaking up and crashing. That discovery is the reason why all jet liners now have windows with rounded corners.
Sumo is the best! It was my whole reason for going to Japan last May. I can’t wait to go back for so many other reasons, such as the people and the food, but sumo is still top of the list! (I am not of Japanese descent, we are Americans living in Florida.)
Pete is bang on about the British travelling. My brother once took a cottage pie our mum made in tupperware through security on a flight to The Netherlands because he didn't want to waste it. They actually let him. He is 30. Love him.
Two of the most turbulent flights I've been on was one on the way from Birmingham to Dublin, it was so windy we literally couldn't land and ended up flying back to Manchester and had to get a taxi all the way back home. Then another time we went to Greece and the flight all the way there was fine, until we got over Greece and it was the most violent storm I'd ever seen, lightning everywhere below us and the plane was shaking like crazy. Scary, but looking back on it, it was really cool
Regarding the ANA window crack, it’s a nothing burger. Happens 100 times a year. Windows crack all the time. Just caught headlines because it’s a Japanese airline and a Boeing.
Pete, the salmon number does look lovely on you! 😆 Don’t know if I could fly all the way to Japan no matter how much I’d love to. Planes are my #1 phobia - loud, small spaces, heights. The logical part of my brain accepts that they’re safe and functional machines, however my lizard brain says “ABSOLUTELY NOT, am mammal, I’m not supposed to be up here in this metal monstrosity 😫” Had 2 panic attacks flying across the US a month ago, the pilot was WHACK and dropped the plane several times, plus tons of turbulence (from Denver to Portland). That experience plus this video is making sure that I probably won’t fly again for a few years 😂
The door and iPhone were found not far from my house (west of Portland). I was out hiking the next day (it’s very woodsy out there) and we definitely hunted through the underbrush to see if we could find debris. Saw the news clip for the iPhone just chilling under someone’s front yard shrubbery. It was like DB Cooper all over again, haha
To balance your experience a little, I had good time my first time flying to Japan with Aeroflot (seat belt had the usual sound and staff were nice) some 10 years ago. Also like turbulances (outaide of meal/open cup time of course, it hounts me, that an accident might happen). Without turbulances, flight is really just too boring. I also had ID check in Japan when buying alcohol couple times, but once was what I assume a trainee with senpai standing behind back, observing. It is always fun for me, when someone asks for ID check.
If you are interested in commercial aviation disasters I recommend the podcast Black Box Down. They break down what went wrong, the investigation, findings from the investigation, and how it impacted the future of commercial aviation. They are on an indefinite hiatus, so no new episodes, but the 120ish episodes they have are gold.
A lot of my students in Japan absolutely loved wrestling. I'm not a huge fan myself, but I can see the appeal - they come up with some pretty good storylines lol. And don't forget, wrestling is no more fake than The Godfather Part 2 or Kurosawa's Seven Samurai!
You guys should really bring Natsuki outside Japan, it will be a really nice show being he is a very expressive Japanese. We can also reference the new series to your main channel, Japanese Abroad. 😁
I'm only really used to Dutch airplane providers (or french in case of TUI), but I don't find flying all that stressful. Maybe it's because Schiphol is such a well oiled machine. On a 10,5 hour flight, my grandmother and I sat next to this lady we didnt know and we ended up having a really nice and wholesome conversation. It might be a culture thing tbh.
I agree about turbulent flights in Japan. My one flight I took here from Osaka to Tokyo was so damn shaky I almost crapped my pants while all the Japanese passengers around me were falling asleep like Chris said 😂😂😂
As an aviation enthusiast for 30 years and serious flight simmers only in the past 16 years, I changed my mind when I tasted Shinkansen trains of Japan. It is just a way more dignifying way of travel, simple. It is totally worth that $110 price tag it took, and totally commands $40 premium over ANA flights to Itami, Osaka. Not only it has been running since 1964 accident free, zero death, but also hyper on-time. You can walk, shit, eat, drink, and talk in a private room. You can even smoke in some area of the car if it is your thing. Why would a Japanese exchange that for a "get strapped into your cramped seats every 10 minutes or so". And Japanese airlines keep their cabin temperature like sauna. Regardless how clean Japanese people are, you are going to whiff old people's smell in that super cramped domestic Japanese seat configuration planes, especially for our sensitive Asian nose. If it is not for the novelty of air travel, nobody is choosing to travel by plane out of wisdom. As a grown up and normalised aviation geek, I can easily understand the general public's choice.
My wife, two year old daughter (maybe even younger) and me had a flight with Aeroflot too. We should fly from Frankfurt over Moscow to Tokyo. Because of problems before taking off, we missed the connection the flight from Moscow to Tokyo. Not to blame Aeroflot here. But the flight which we got was from Moscow to Beijing and then to Tokyo. We had to wait 2 hours in Moscow and 7 hours in Beijing. And the Aeroflot time checked the buggy directly through. I asked before and they said i will get it in Moscow. I didn't. So I had a heavy camera bag and a small child for 7 hours in Beijing. We arrived in Tokyo 12 hours later. What trip.... And no, we never flew with Aeroflot again!
Greetings from Czech Republic! So many things to do, locations to see here, I bet Natsuki would love it. If you would be looking for some tips, let me know! :)
Cracked windscreens will happen somewhere in your fleet of aircraft after so many hours and cycles of flying. It being a Boeing is irrelevant since it has happened to Airbus aircraft as well.
I always assumed Japanese clans were along the lines of Scottish clans where they don't really exist anymore and it was just promoted by the tourism industry. Only time we really wear kilts or tartans is at our weddings too but most people hire as they're freaking expensive
Clan is just a fancy way of saying civilized cult, in that case you already have one. You should definitely do some rock climbing or bouldering with Connor or Felix.

I have to profess my sins to you Chris & Pete ! I couldn't leave a flock of Seagulls Alone resting together in a large Bowling Alley Parking Lot. I drove up on them leaning on my horn and made them all take off in a panic. Dont worry I didn't & wouldn't of run any of them over.
An unexpected but welcome surprise to see famous wrestler and powerlifter Mark Henry take time out of his day to help host the podcast in place of Pete! Very Cool 😊
British Reference I see.
Pete's blister story is absolutely insane
Headphones are a god send when flying. Even if you're not listening to any music people leave you alone for the most part

I understand Natsuki: He wants to go somewhere with no expectations and take in the atmosphere.
Oh Gods, Pete's story about the experience with the boiling water and the flight was...horrifying, to say the least.
Pete, if you read the comments: Once you get the Century it's worth jumping on the Century FB groups and asking around for a JDM/Toyota specialist near you. Thanks mate! I appreciate the help - just gotta get it out of southampton! hehe
That salmon coloured suit is actually fire. Now I want to look for one.
Yes, more Natsuki! 🙏 Been waiting for some sort of movie sequel
agreed. life is too short. The Czech republic is waiting....
Natsuki’s bucket list across the world that would be fantastic, I have been hoping for another Natsuki movie.
I agree, Natsuki's Bucked List would be an insane series of video's to watch. Please consider doing them.
I recently finished your book, Chris. What a great read!
Natsuki is a legend tho. I remember when you showed Natsuki a Chav and he said he wanted to make friends with them. One of many reasons why he's better than us and knows everything. He's open minded, slightly mental and totally fearless.
Man... I am not an easily queasy person at all, but that foot story was up.setting lmao
I popped for the Mark Henry reference 😂 I love anytime Pete talks about wrestling
Pete making Mark Henry references,,,, *crys a single tear* we're so proud of you!!
glad you used your set for the podcast :3
1:36 yes pete very similar lol. I can't wait until Chris sees pic of him.
Not quite relevant to this video but I wanted to say Joey brought a very nice positive Energy for this journey across Japan series.
On the Trash Taste podcast he sometimes comes across a cynical so it was very nice to see his jolly side :D
Pete is a legend of the North east!
I second Chris going to a Puro (japanese pro wrestling) show. Either a super goofy DDT show or a super violent FMW-style show.
Probably a bit unfair to Natsuki - pilsners er from the Czech Republic… specially the city Pilsen.
Plus the area has a lot of charm and old cool architecture in Czechia, so there’s pretty good reason to go have a beer there 😊

Chris is going to be in big trouble if Sharla ever listens to this, say, around 11:47 or so... 🤣
Absolutely😂😂😂
I saw Chris’ book in a Waterstones in Windsor.
6:13 You can fly to Warszawa in Poland from Haneda and then have a drive to Czech Republic :) the polish airline is called LOT.
Sumo is the best! It was my whole reason for going to Japan last May. I can’t wait to go back for so many other reasons, such as the people and the food, but sumo is still top of the list! (I am not of Japanese descent, we are Americans living in Florida.)

This is obviously a "British Isles Reference" !

Yes pete looks just like Mark Henry. Such an outstanding weight lifter
Pete, the salmon number does look lovely on you! 😆

"Natsuki around the world in 80 days" sounds a fun series
A lot of my students in Japan absolutely loved wrestling. I'm not a huge fan myself, but I can see the appeal - they come up with some pretty good storylines lol. And don't forget, wrestling is no more fake than The Godfather Part 2 or Kurosawa's Seven Samurai!
Pete’s homage to Mark Henry was the style move I unexpectedly appreicated ❣️
Around the world bucket list with Natsuki ♥️ 🎉. That will be awesome 😎 👏
You guys should really bring Natsuki outside Japan, it will be a really nice show being he is a very expressive Japanese. We can also reference the new series to your main channel, Japanese Abroad. 😁
Okinawa appeared to have some great bouldering spots.
I still want to see Chris and Natsuki going to an Otoboke Beaver concert.
Chris Abroad new leader of Bullet Club confirmed!
It combines Chris' interested in wrestling with his interest in creating a clan.
Mark Henry's retirement segment was awesome, Mae Young's "hand" not so much lol, if you know you know.
I cant believe you still havent made a video about sumo, its my greatest love of japan.
Interesting flying stories!
Chris, I think you guys should do a podcast on Japan's equivalent of the "Bermuda triangle" 🚨called the "Dragons Triangle"!🌊✈🌊🛥
24:00 "it was a hate crime. absolutely grim" 24:50 "I feel thoroughly disgusted and I want to retreat to the fax machine" 😂 😂
I'm only really used to Dutch airplane providers (or french in case of TUI), but I don't find flying all that stressful. Maybe it's because Schiphol is such a well oiled machine. I'd guessed "sand" flavor was salt. (Salt being something that can be found on the shore). Cool that it's short for sandwich!
Saludos desde Nicaragua Chris & Pete. By the way , you pronounced "Nicaragua" flawlessly.
Please bring Natsuki to Qld Australia!! We would love to meet him & i need a hair cut 😘
I agree about turbulent flights in Japan. My one flight I took here from Osaka to Tokyo was so damn shaky I almost crapped my pants while all the Japanese passengers around me were falling asleep like Chris said 😂😂😂
Easiest flights from Japan to Eastern Europe might be through Finland, FYI
I regret having my lunch while listening to foot blob explosion! Oh my god! That was very picturesque explanation! 😄🤢
Speaking of Robot Wars, HypnoDisc was actually made by a guy who lives down the road from me. I think it's actually still in his garage.
Clans do exist still, and many are still extant, but others died out (well to my knowledge the male line) My Japanese ancestors were of the Mōri clan!
As an aviation enthusiast for 30 years and serious flight simmers only in the past 16 years, I changed my mind when I tasted Shinkansen trains of Japan.

Ok, but Pete's attire today is pretty lit.
Did not expect the Mark Henry talk at all lol
As I need to lose weight desperately. I'll just tune into the end of this story in regards to Pete's exploding Blister every time I get hungry !
Greetings from Czech Republic! So many things to do, locations to see here, I bet Natsuki would love it. If you would be looking for some tips, let me know! :)
Salmon suit lol Swell. 😂
Pete really sounds like the guy from RUclips channel, The Urban Gentry
Cracked windscreens will happen somewhere in your fleet of aircraft after so many hours and cycles of flying. It being a Boeing is irrelevant since it has happened to Airbus aircraft as well.

Pete "bubble-foot" Donaldson. You absolute disgusting legend.
That's the grossest In-flight story ive ever heard.
Rofl.
The tub of margarine example is so spot on. Why do people try to take things like this through security?!
I'm flying to Fukuoka via Tokyo in April, I hope I don't scare off the locals
Ryotoro cause the crack in the cockpit window. Everyone knows that!
I have been waiting :D
New England Clan Chowder
I'm coming for ya. I'm coming to Japan. Well, not exactly for you, rather for myself. :D
the blister story was utterly vile, Pete
Come to scuba dive in Monterey, California and I’ll come guide you to the sea lions swimming under water!
Was it birth-year the bus driver was going by? Would that be common practice in Japan?
I didn't have any qualms about sitting next to a stranger on a flight... but after Pete's story I just might..
Bloody hell Pete 😂😂😂
Being overworked explains the peaceful sleep 😅
Get zoom call with yous two and Natsuki
Abroad In a clan 😂 fkn Chris 😂😂
Let us hear Natsuki list the famous artist of Hungary. No cheating!! Would love to see and hear that.
Over ~75% of the UK population have a passport, so, more than half Pete mate xD.
I’d like to see some of your other guests…
NJPW OR DDT LETS GOOOOOO
Clan is just a fancy way of saying civilized cult, in that case you already have one. You should definitely do some rock climbing or bouldering with Connor or Felix.
A pod in Japan
It's John China, thank you very much.
Do you think it was a Japanese year / Era issue with the childs age ?
I see Chris had the same aeroflot experience as I did back in 2018... decided right then and there that I'll never fly with them again
💜💜💜
Sumo? Sumo? ive been asking for a while for you two to cover sumo. I remember you saying that sumo doesnot bring in the vieuws.
A Ozumo episode would be great! There is a world of dedicated sumo fans. JSA is reaching out to gajin fans with Sumo Prime Time.Pls reach out to JSA or a journalist like John Gunning to bring us a great sumo episode. Pls dont talk about the amounts of food the rikishi eat , we know that, talk about the injuries, the training, the salaries, NHK troubles with youtube content creators, the pride, the henka.
Have a great day and best regards to Natsuki.
Love Sumo! PewDiePie did a sumo video with Connor and Joey. It was great. I honestly don’t know why more content creators don’t feature some sumo - although sporting events in general don’t seem to get much coverage - no idea why.
Waiting on the next journey across Japan video like 💀
She looks good for her age?
Oh Chris you're gonna get roasted...
She's breathtaking!
Didn’t know you were apart of the Killertron team Chris that’s awesome!! 😂
Acshully, based on a quick Google search, 84.4% of Brits have a passport, which seems like quite a lot. Only 56% of Americans have one.
