  • Here is a detailed tutorial on how to make pompano teaser flies for pompano fishing. When pairing teaser flies with jigs you create a deadly duo that has been proven time again that they really do catch pompano, you may be asking why? Well, I am not 100% sure because the two do not look like any natural food source in my opinion. I do believe the action of the jig hitting the sand and the sporadic movement often times triggers the bite. I find that 80% of the time, the pompano eat the fly instead of the actual jig itself. Supplies that you will need to create your own teaser flies include:
    A Vise
    Bobbin and thread
    Synthetic material
    Scissors
    Fly cement glue or super glue
    Owner SSW #2 hooks
    and a little patience.
    Start by placing the hook in the vise, secure it firmly. Then cut a snippet of fur or material to add to the shank. Make a few solid wraps with your thread to secure the material. At this point you can place your fly cement on the thread or wait until after you add the flash. Add the flash in the same manner over the top of the hair, secure it with a few firm wraps, create your knot and apply your glue. Be sure to trim your material and thread to your liking.

    Awesome video, i love all your fishing hack videos. I wish you would have mentioned all the materials in previous video's. Especially when you made the how to repair your rod tip hack & dressing your treble hook on lures. I had a hard time tracking down the name of the bobbin jig 😁. I went to hobbie store's with a screen shot of the bobbin jig asking if they carried a thread spooling tool like the one in the pic until i ran into an old timer who asked what i was looking for & what i needed it for. He then told me "sounds like your looking for a bobbin jig son, let me see the picture. He says yup, thats what your looking for. He then told me there is a Sportsmans Warehouse a couple of blocks down the road. Man he was a life saver. You had me running like crazy 😁😎. By the way your hacks I've also learned to make my own Buck tails. Thanks & keep the video's coming bro.🎣

    Thanks for the lesson. Easy-Peasy, started making them today. Hardest part was sourcing materials online at a fair price, local tackle shops are crazy expensive. Excited to try them with my new banana jigs.

    In my experience they hit the fly 8 times out of ten. And orange is my go to color as it resembles the belly of a sand flea. And if you take your time you can tie those flies without the vice too. I don't blame the folks at docs for charging that much is a business and it's labor intensive. Thanks captain

      Raul Colmenero They sure do, the teaser is key for sure. I wouldn't blame them if there was more time and product involved but there isn't much to a teaser.

    You guys are lucky. In South Africa, 3 small packs of synthetic material/feathers will cost 5 dollars, which is around R100. So it's 20:1, and then, they put on 100%. But it's still cheaper and better to make up your own once you have the killing patterns down.

    I noticed that I was getting a lot of hits on my bucktail that were hitting short. So I put a tinsel fly about 10 inches behind it. And started catching all kinds of fish including a 27inch pompano. I used #6 red hooks with flashabou.

    How would you then attach it to the main jig?

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  6 лет назад +1

      Townsend McWilliam I like to use a loop knot but many attach them directly to the jig with a split ring. I think it constricts movement.

    • @raulcolmenero
