- Here is a detailed tutorial on how to make pompano teaser flies for pompano fishing. When pairing teaser flies with jigs you create a deadly duo that has been proven time again that they really do catch pompano, you may be asking why? Well, I am not 100% sure because the two do not look like any natural food source in my opinion. I do believe the action of the jig hitting the sand and the sporadic movement often times triggers the bite. I find that 80% of the time, the pompano eat the fly instead of the actual jig itself. Supplies that you will need to create your own teaser flies include:
A Vise
Bobbin and thread
Synthetic material
Scissors
Fly cement glue or super glue
Owner SSW #2 hooks
and a little patience.
Start by placing the hook in the vise, secure it firmly. Then cut a snippet of fur or material to add to the shank. Make a few solid wraps with your thread to secure the material. At this point you can place your fly cement on the thread or wait until after you add the flash. Add the flash in the same manner over the top of the hair, secure it with a few firm wraps, create your knot and apply your glue. Be sure to trim your material and thread to your liking.

Watched this video, went to bass pro and bought EVERYTHING (I've never tied a fly in my life) and ended up make 10 teasers in 20 mins, so simple! Great video man thank you!!
Awesome video, i love all your fishing hack videos. I wish you would have mentioned all the materials in previous video's. Especially when you made the how to repair your rod tip hack & dressing your treble hook on lures. I had a hard time tracking down the name of the bobbin jig 😁. I went to hobbie store's with a screen shot of the bobbin jig asking if they carried a thread spooling tool like the one in the pic until i ran into an old timer who asked what i was looking for & what i needed it for. He then told me "sounds like your looking for a bobbin jig son, let me see the picture. He says yup, thats what your looking for. He then told me there is a Sportsmans Warehouse a couple of blocks down the road. Man he was a life saver. You had me running like crazy 😁😎. By the way your hacks I've also learned to make my own Buck tails. Thanks & keep the video's coming bro.🎣
Thanks for the lesson. Easy-Peasy, started making them today. Hardest part was sourcing materials online at a fair price, local tackle shops are crazy expensive. Excited to try them with my new banana jigs.
Looked nice Josh and so simple. Thanks
Nice tips really like the DIY ideas and rigs especially when there’re proven to work
Thanks for your on line seminar.
Very nice vid!
Been doing alot of traveling for work
Just caught up, thanks for sharing this. Great info as usual! I'll definately make some!
I just started pompano fishing, so this video was great for me. Gonna get some material and ty my own
Very helpful tip to show us, gonna do this with some treble hooks for a jerkbait
In my experience they hit the fly 8 times out of ten. And orange is my go to color as it resembles the belly of a sand flea. And if you take your time you can tie those flies without the vice too. I don't blame the folks at docs for charging that much is a business and it's labor intensive. Thanks captain
Raul Colmenero They sure do, the teaser is key for sure. I wouldn't blame them if there was more time and product involved but there isn't much to a teaser.
Hi Josh from Sarasota.. Always more fun to use a lure you created yourself... Bragging rights..Haha Great video and informative..
Hi Joshua.. Thank you for great demo... Can you provide the store or website that sell the feathers? I fish in San Diego and rarely see people making their own jigs... An advantage for anglers to make their own colors.. Thank you
So simple yet so elegant. well done. make enough of them and you could possibly sell em by the dozens for a little side cash .
You could, especially considering retail cost.
Hi Josh, Where do you buy the synthetic material?
Are you offset hook are is it straight shank
Thanks for sharing
Bob Ross of fishing. But you should have made that fly a friend.
jeffvlasin Oh I made many.
Thank you very much for the tutorial brother
Can you please tell us where you got the synthetic material
Cool stuff, do the pompano still bite good in early June?
Did you make your own clamp mount? if not where'd you purchase it?
Nice. I must try this.
looks really easy but how many catches will it take to make this teaser fall apart??
It would take a lot of pompano catches to fall apart. Mackerel rip everything up over time.
Is that a #2 hook or a 2/0 hook
Where do you your crystal flash ? Thanks
What is the thing you use to hold the hook where can i buy at
How much weed you trim with those scissors? Lol Nice vid.
You guys are lucky. In South Africa, 3 small packs of synthetic material/feathers will cost 5 dollars, which is around R100. So it's 20:1, and then, they put on 100%. But it's still cheaper and better to make up your own once you have the killing patterns down.
Thanks for interacting and watching the channel.
@@Saltyscales Areal pleasure - thanks for sharing. We have African Pompano and Two spot Pompano here.
Hey bro where can I buy a large pack of all those pretty synthetic feathers. The Pompano bite is On in Daytona Beach
Bass Pro Shops has them
I found nail polish removal cleans superglue caps.
Wow nice
Eso me ayudó mucho, ya que gasto mucho dinero en comprar cada ansuelo👍
Nice thanks
I noticed that I was getting a lot of hits on my bucktail that were hitting short. So I put a tinsel fly about 10 inches behind it. And started catching all kinds of fish including a 27inch pompano. I used #6 red hooks with flashabou.
green toes Nice, 27 inch pompano is a beast.
@@Saltyscales a 27 inch pompano is a mythical beast.
It was a permit. Not a pompano. At this rate it may have been a jack craval. If it was a pompano it is with out a doubt the world record. Lol
Good
Can you teach us how to put the jig and the fly together?
Most definitely, I'll work on a quick tutorial.
Nice ...good job tks
Welcome 😊
Hey Bro👏👏👏,the next video
You can make bucktail jig also and save a few dollars
How would you then attach it to the main jig?
Townsend McWilliam I like to use a loop knot but many attach them directly to the jig with a split ring. I think it constricts movement.
Joshua Taylor loop knot rocks. And 50lb test sometimes when blues are running cause they will bite your rig clean
So when you tie your jig to the leader you just include the teaser in your loop or is it another loop just between the two eyes of the hooks?
Townsend McWilliam same knot just facing opposite to the big hook.
Precisely, I will make a quick video showing you because a few have asked now.
Im not getting your notifications, nice work!
I believe a lot of people aren't receiving my notifications.
Stephanie, if I was you I'd get in the face of the person uploading the videos. ALL of that Beautiful Video work! I am getting most (I think) of his but I'm not sure. Hope you are feeling well! 😀
sad that gator jims don"t even carry a eye for your fishing rods with all that tackle they have? walmart does!
lol the music is pretty loud... you are competing with it...i actually just fast forwarded it until the music ended...
We're not going to cry you a river. It seems like you have already taken care of that.
My goodness sir THE US MILITARY FISHING INDUSTRY will be upon you. Especially when you had help people save money like those in SEA and Africa. 😂😂😂 have a nice day.
BassPro .... $1.49 for two.
My BP charges $7 for two
Joshua Taylor There the BPS brand. I get them in the saltwater section.
