- This is a look at the making of "DREAMLAND" - a cd featuring Brent Spiner & Maude Maggart. The CD harkens back to radio's golden age, with a love story that is told through classic songs, characters, dialog and sound FX. Part musical, part radio drama and part film noir, the concept for this "audio film" sprang from Spiner's becoming a partner in a recording studio (the one featured in the video). Miss Maggart is well known in the cabaret world and brings a wonderful haunting quality to the dreamlike narrative. All in all, it's a uniquely romantic escape that stands apart from ordinary cd's and must be heard in it's entirety to be fully appreciated.

I was amazed at how his singing voice sounds absolutely nothing like his talking voice.
Brent can perform stunts to an extent. Just nothing too crazy since he's not a professional stuntman.

I've always thought Brent Spiner was a terriffic actor but I didn't realize his talent was so complex. He picked the right people for this project. They were all amazing.
Brent Spiner and Mark Hamill? My sci-fi, animated series, voice acting fan brain may just explode.
Actually that is pretty smart to hire Hamill as he is a voice acting God. I love Spiner's vocal talents, quite the singer and I wished I saw him in more voice acting roles.
I know this is 12 years ago. But Brent Spiner'd voice should have been more used in various animations. His voice is breathtaking

I met Brent yesterday and he is lovely and really funny. I love the fact that he can be super emotive, whilst becoming infamous with such an awesome but deadpan character (Data).
@cynthiacher Finding someone attractive is always a matter of taste. Personally, I think Brent has the whole package: looks, talent, intelligence, charisma, etc. I say most of his fans are young because if you search for Brent fan tributes here on YT or for fan websites and you look at the creator’s profiles, most of them are in their 20’s (like me, though just barely lol). I also feel he has gotten more attractive as he has aged. However, that is my taste and everyone has their own opinion.
He's much much cuter through time lmao.. oh. I'm 17! 🤭
Mr. Spiner is actually a little older than my father but I always thought he was handsome in his youth and prime when I saw him in movies and TV shows as I was growing up. While he's clearly one of the best actors I've ever seen, I don't think that his acting talent alone was enough to make his Data character as popular as he was. I'm really sure that Brent's personal charm and good looks had a lot to do with it as well.
@@Elly3981if you watch his screen test he absolutely oozes charisma. he's doing a not so great interpretation of shylock from MoV but you don't even care because you're just hanging on every word he says. incredibly magnetic.

i was 3 in 1991, and everytime Data came on i'd stop whatever i was doing and stare at the tv. my sister who was 15 then was the one that had it on.
This was wonderful. I got a hand written autographed copy To Kismet, Love always Brent! Had him on my radio show he was awesome!

Mr. Spiner is a consummate actor, excellent singer, excellent 'invisible man' (one doesn't see him until he allows it), as well as a superb judge of female singers. Hence the title of this video.
Fabulous! Brent just gets better and better! Love the music, love the video - wonderfully entertaining and he couldn't have picked a better singing partner than Maude Maggart.

Yeah. While I would have liked to see the story on screen, the audio and music does take you back to a bygone age where people listened to radios when TV has not been invented yet.
Its a shame this music album never made it to Broadway or the West End in London. This would have been fantastic!

This is brilliant - an ultimately happy-ending - classic musical with some great songs - Stranger in Paradise (OK Polovtsian Dances from Borodin's Prince Igor) appears as a showstopper! Well done

Maud has a wonderful voice! I admit, I only knew her through her sister, of whom I'm a huge fan. But I'm a fan of Maude now too-for completely different reasons, and in her own right.

There is a market for everything and anything, especially stuff that is well-done. Don't discount something's viability just because you, personally, may not "get it." True, radio plays (and audio productions in the same style) may not have held up as well in the present market as some things, but they are still popular and still valid.
This album is just wonderful. The writing is really tight -- funny, warm, and with layers that you only notice after several listens.
The directions to the restaurant are accurate!
My God this is a beautiful CD. Truly brilliant.
I don't think Brent's die hard-fans are obsessed, but some of them are pretty close.
Anyways, it's a nice album.
I bought it because of the concept itself, not many records like this around these days.
And he'll probably sell tons, thanks to all his fans. But I'm sure he would prefer people buying it for the music and not just for him.

I would have loved to see a short film version of the album but I can understand why Brent didn't make one since he was no longer a young man when he produced Dreamland.

Girlfriend, Michelle, and I caught up with her @ the ocean side Colony Hotel in Palm Beach last summer for an A++++ show second to none!! Those who say traditional Americana is passe are all wet! Maude swims with the best of them and with a sea of mediocrity out there, her voice and style rise above the din and into the heavens.
Why doe this person continually come back to comment in the negative? If you don't like it go away, no one is forcing you to listen to this great work!

The mixer talks about being surprised at the fact that they got songs down in one take, but, to me, that's just what I'd expect. Spiner was trained as a theatre actor first and foremost, so the notion of having only one shot at getting a good performance must be hard-wired into him by this point. There's no second-to-fifty-fourth take in theatre. You either hit the mark every night... or you don't.
Why are we so down on the guy with the beard? Guy with the beard can come be in my shot, we'll even go have a round of shots, then maybe go get our flu shots. That's how much I'm about the beard guy and shots. Mr. Spiner has a very pleasant singing voice, but I bet the guy who played Lore is MUCH nicer. :>D
Um, you do know that Mr. Spiner had to play both Data and Lore because he doesn't actually have an identical twin brother, do you.
Must it be a competition? Maude Maggart is a great singer and Fiona Apple is a great singer and composer too. They are both great at what they do, each in their own way.
