For the first episode or two of their Hitman 2 series, I legit thought their edits were actual parts of the game. The way the editor even used the audio to make it feel like the joke vocals were attached to a specific character on screen was perfect. I really can't think of any other content creators here who do that sort of thing with such polish.
I absolutely agree, one of the many reasons why I really adore OneyPlays. They go the extra mile to add in really entertaining edits for most episodes that feel very subtle at times. Something I can really appreciate. Chris' Oblivion series comes to mind, which had a lot of silly voice overs by Chris for the npcs throughout the few episodes he made for it. His audio editing skills made it a blast to sit through, loved it.
I think Chris sometimes doubts his ability to carry a solo lets play and make it interesting, which is why he gets his friends so it's more of a podcast I assume the oblivion series was also a bit over-ambitious and a little too difficult to create steady content for which is why it ended so quickly, but yeah you can tell Chris edited this one because he puts his own voice clips in subtly and it works. I assume he also doesn't want his thoughts on the game to sour the mood so he tries to lighten things up
The editing was way overdone and cringy. Not as bad as the first one with Chris' own animations shoehorned in but still a bit much. Especially that cocky bit

That french guy clogging his village's sewers up with marbles was a pretty funny series of posts, but afaik it turned out to be a hoax and that letter he filmed at the end is fake (the mayor's office confirmed it as fake, adding that they had a good laugh)

As someone that adored Lyle and his work on Sanity Not Included, as well as finding his 'spoilers ahead' videos gut-bustingly hilarious, I was actually super excited when I found out he was going to be one of Oney's new co-hosts. Really am glad that he's kept at it all this time, even when, from what I could see, he was kinda derided by some of the fanbase starting off.

11:30 I had a similar moment with the Bugs Life game. I was really little and couldn't finish the first level and it's on a time limit, so after awhile the game played this really creepy cinematic of the grasshoppers coming to attack the village. I always ran upstairs and had my parents come down and shut off the computer.
That one timed sequence in Donkey Kong 64 where you had to avoid getting shot by a moving crosshair terrified me similarly when I was a little kid. Couldn't pick up the game for months after that.

I mostly think that what everyone wants is to people to agree on two points: 1- Regard new interactions with character as universally positive additions at most, and for the purists, unecessary at a minimum 2- Regard the ending and the absolute raping of the original pacing, atmosphere and reveal of major plot points by the Time Ghost Police as universally repulsive, and agree that thinking that it was positive shows a complete disregard for quality in story telling.

Don't mistake me for saying the game has no positives, because it has plenty, more positive than negative. But understand, a majority of small positives doesn't make up for glaring, tremendously shitty negatives.
I can't say I like a lot of what I'm seeing in FFVIIR (especially since I'm replaying FFVII atm), but Chris et al definitely make this an enjoyable lets play to watch!
I think its flaws are pretty obvious. Boilerplate JRPG sidequests, a few sections drag, air combat is bad, there are texture lod bugs/hardware limitations in the big free roam sections. But I think general consensus is that those are minor flaws compared to all the stuff it gets right. Ending is divisive and I can see both sides, but IMO it's way more interesting than a straight remake could ever be. It recaptures the one thing that a 1:1 remake never could, which is not knowing what will happen next. My friends and I have actually been speculating about how the story will progress, which is something I haven't been able to do since 1997 when I played it the first time. That's cool.

Oh, that wasn't disappointing? How about whispers, to act as plot armor for the PLOT, because that screams good writing, doesn't it?
How about killing characters, but not killing them, but maybe killing them, so that all the character development that was legitimately well done is meaningless because death is a bigger joke now here than in even DBZ?
Collapsed tunnel, moving the hands around as a make-work project, fun?
Pointless two-rung ladders that take five seconds to climb, or ten if they won't line up, REPEATEDLY BACK TO BACK, fun?
Climbing the collapsed plate, every unnecessary grapple gun moment that lost its charm after the third use, fun?
Shinra HQ, jumping across lights in the slowest not-a-cutscene cutscene moment that might as well have been five minutes of shimmying through a crack, fun?
Shinra HQ, 90% of the Dome, hopping on tubes, pulling levers, watching Red run back and forth because no lever there, ladders, levers, ladders and levers, less of a fucking puzzle than N64 zelda puzzles, FUN?
SLOWLY SWINGING HAND OVER HAND, SLOW AS FUCK, IN MULTIPLE SECTIONS, FOR NO REASON. Fun?
There are a LOT of disappointing aspects to this game, without even having to get into the ending. Don't mistake me for saying the game has no positives, because it has plenty, more positive than negative. But understand, a majority of small positives doesn't make up for glaring, tremendously shitty negatives.
I can't say I like a lot of what I'm seeing in FFVIIR (especially since I'm replaying FFVII atm), but Chris et al definitely make this an enjoyable lets play to watch!
I'm really loving these FF7 "Remake" videos. It's good to see someone not overly praise it for everything.
I think its flaws are pretty obvious. Boilerplate JRPG sidequests, a few sections drag, air combat is bad, there are texture lod bugs/hardware limitations in the big free roam sections. But I think general consensus is that those are minor flaws compared to all the stuff it gets right. Ending is divisive and I can see both sides, but IMO it's way more interesting than a straight remake could ever be. It recaptures the one thing that a 1:1 remake never could, which is not knowing what will happen next. My friends and I have actually been speculating about how the story will progress, which is something I haven't been able to do since 1997 when I played it the first time. That's cool.
@@SuzakuX It was never going to be a 1 to 1 remake though and nobody expected it to be. People just didn't expect weird and out of place Kingdom Hearts elements to be thrown in especially at the end. Different strokes I guess.
This playthrough is the best. I want a full play of this game. It could be even better than the kingdom hearts playthrough!

Funny enough about the robots pain thing in Borderlands it is confirmed that every hyperion robot feels and can only feel pain also it is apparently in slow motion so the pain is like double of the normal person.
