So stoked it's helping so many people! Hope you have an awesome trip. Random tip, If you stop by barcalona, take a day to visit montserrat and walk up to the top. Amazing views!
So good to hear Kiwi accent on RUclips! Im from NZ & off to Euro in 2 wks time. Got a Pacsafe x40 & few other bits n pieces. Thanks for the tips, really helpful.
Haha yeah don't get many kiwi accents on here. Stoked the video was helpful for you, we are looking to do southeast Asia early next year so will aim to make a few more videos like this. Have an awesome trip!
Amazing. 20 minute video, yet so straight to the point and engaging. I like your tone. You're not over the top etc, just say what needs to be said. Subbed!
I traveled to Lugano, Switzerland and Rome last October with the updated version of this bag. While my friends were struggling with suitcases, I was bopping along with the VentureSafe 45 and a sling bag also from PacSafe. It was wonderful.
when i saw the duration of the video initially i thought i may not see the entire video but m happy to say that saw the entire video without doing anything. good job.
I've been trying to find reviews on this bag, since your title doesn't have it in it it was hard to find. But now that I've found it, I'm glad you made it now I'm going to buy this one over my other option. Again thanks for making the video.
Just watched it today in october 2021. I have a pacsafe 25L (venture safe X24 on its way) Very useful vidéo, i will watch some of your other vidéos later and you seem to have been quite around since :-)
my wife and I used this bag for 15 days across 5 European countries. the bag took a beating and was WELL WORTH the money. the security was awesome. I recommend you combine with compression packing cubes.
brifoote i googled it and it came up in the shopping options. I paid around $180. It was worth every cent. Especially when we locked it away and traveled without worry.
The bag's still available. It's very popular still. Look on www.pacsafe.com/venturesafe-exp45-anti-theft-45l-carry-on-travel-pack/60321.html, but is expensive if you live outside the USA. Check out Amazon or ebay (maybe pick up a lightly used one). I got mine on sale at a local outdoors store. Google the local suppliers in your area. Good luck. Let me kno how you go. Happy Travels:)
The other good one is Tortuga backpacks. They are slash proof, water resistant with a shell you can buy, they have a separate iPad/ laptop compartment, and what I love is they are front loading with a compartment at the back for the straps.
I love the video, thank you for showing your bag in such detail, and showing off the anti-theft factor of the bag. As i am also afraid of theft in hostels or on the street. This is now my number one choice as a future travel bag, as it is also on the cheaper side going for only $200 dollars.
Great video bro! I'm a fellow kiwi currently travelling around Europe too, you have a lot of great tips and I've defiantly learnt a couple things. Good to hear a kiwi talk after months of Europeans haha. loved the video. Cheers
Very great explaination. At least, my favorite between other backpack travel list thanks to minimalist stuff. I like the fact that you explain how to pack and shortly what to take instead of big big list of what you take with
Great video. Like you - I also own a Venturesafe 45 L. I'm a big fan of the bag. Biggest plus is the safety feature. I loved it so much that my packable day pack is also a Pacsafe. The only thing that I wish they did differently is to have a laptop sleeve at the back part of the bag - instead of the front pocket.
Thank you so much for sharing your excellent review of this bag and for providing excellent tips as well. I am sooooo impressed with how organised you were which made for an excellent holiday. Regarding the travel journal, I use Travelpod. It can be time consuming (uploading pics) but you get to share it with friends and you can also print a book if you wish..
I have been a minimal traveller for the past 5 years, with usually a 20L backpack, and fully packed it always tipped about 6 to 7kg. upon the reveal of your pack, i knew there was absolutely no way it was 6+ kg, when a 45L is packed full to brim. thank you for clarifying the weight with that weigh-in photo and breakdown. it is always a good strategy to wear the heaviest, during flights/transit days.
Mate you should consider getting an affiliate link for this backpack on amazon and listing it in the description. You would make some money from each sale and your current link is outdated. Thanks for the review btw, helped heaps !
Just tried out the this pack and wanted it so much to be ”the one” wore it for awhile and planned to go for a walk with it but after an hour of walking with it indoors found the straps so uncomfortable and real hard so its going back. And the waist strap did nothing at all. I think I'm going to try the Osprey Fairview (?)40L for women again as it was truly comfortable but had other things I didn't like.
Sorry it didn't work out for you Angela. I actually bought a fairview for my partner for Xmas last week and it looks like a great pack. The straps, support and ventilation are better quality than the pacsafe, but does miss out on some of the security features. You can get generic wire meshes that go around the outside if you are worried about that sort of thing
Evan Thomas the osprey is real nice but once packed the front pockets aren't very useful, especially the water bottle pockets. It's also hard to get into the quick access so its not very quick. But it is so comfortable do walk around with. Oh well my search continues. Thanks for your video. Hope you have a good Holiday Season🤶
This is the 3rd time I’ve watch this and still love the way your Pack and sadly this backpack isn’t around any more but got new one on amazon but that isn’t as good . please do another video of packing again soon
Thanks! I'm travelling through southeast Asia at the moment with the same pack and have made a few changes. I'll try get an updated video done once we get back home
Great video, and super helpful! Would you please share the type of tablet pouch you have? i like the simple style of it and small profile with notebook pocket
Cool to see this videos still helping people! No idea what pouch that was though sorry. Bought it 5 years ago and sold it after the trip with the tablet
My day pack will be silly big lol I have health issues and drink A LOT of water so I'll have a 3L camel back bladder (its great for places that don't have good water and I fill it every chance I get. I also am an artist so I take art supplies too...I can usually get it all in my large carry on but I usually just cary a front pack too...Thanks for this!
Hi Random Guy, you might like to take a look at Eagle Creek's Pack-It Specter Cubes and compression cubes. I don't travel without them. They are ultra light and strong and make pack organization a breeze. They are available online pretty much everywere. Think Evan's are an older Australian brand. Happy travels:)
Hi mate, great job. One question though. Wasn't this steel wire a problem during security checks on airports especially during bag scanning?? I am planning a trip to Australia and I would not want any problems on airports.
Nice work Evana!!! I have 10kg of belongings I want to travel with plus a laptop. Do you think this bag could compress that down to 7kg so I can get it in as carry-on? Thanks, Ryan
+Ryan Hayden You might want to check the 2016 version as it might have some laptop weigh reduction tech. If not, remove the cd drive, cut the screen in half, you wont be needing that screen space, and drill some holes in it to lighten it up?
This video has been a huge help! Too bad this bag isn't available anymore. But check out my own packing video using the Kathmandu 30L Transfer Pack! (Or travel bag. I dont really know what the exact name of it is... But it's a great bag!)
The bag's still available. It's very popular. I have one and am enjoying all its anti-theft features. Look on www.pacsafe.com/venturesafe-exp45-anti-theft-45l-carry-on-travel-pack/60321.html. Kathmandu is an Australian brand - do they ship overseas? Happy Travels:)
+Te Rangiora Matekino-Thocolich I had a huge ordeal trying to find one in NZ but got it through www.gearshop.co.nz/products/pacsafe-venturesafe-45l-gii-travel-backpack-olive in the end. They were super helpful as they were sold out at the time and managed to get one to me asap
I'm never gonna be a minimalistic packer, but I'm looking to lighten all the unnecessary packing. Any advise for winter wear cause marino wool and the waterproof jacket might not be advisable for anything under 10 degrees ):
Get a large pack towel and cut it into three smaller units. Each should last several seasons. The large towel is much cheaper than buying several small ones.
+madiantin The towel just wasn't as good as a real bath towel. It worked fine but it was all sorts of heaven once returning to a normal towel. The padding on the back is a formed dense foam witha fabric overlay, not plastic, so it sits ok on your back but it doesn't have the best ventilation on the hotter days. For all the other benefits of the bag, the ventilation issue was negligible.
The compartments that you had in the bag like the one with the clean and dirty clothes. Did they come with the bag or do you have to buy those seperate?
Evan's quite right. It's dimensions fit most international airlines. Remember if you change airlines that the lowest weight and linear dimensions apply (might be pushing it on Ryan, lol!!!). I tension mine down so I don't attract attention. Happy Travels:)
I wish the "pacsafe" logo and name were a bit smaller. Seems like it would attract thieves who want to prove a point. Was it a concern to you? By the way, that was an EXCELLENT video presentation!
+RVAdventurer Totally agree! You could always cover it with some gaffer tape or something similar. That's what I do with the logo on my camera to make it look less appealing :)
+Regan Shorter Thank you. That's what I was thinking too. But, thought it was goofy. I guess not. I'm buying this bag before my next trip. Thanks again for chiming in.
+RVAdventurer I'd still highly recommend the pack. You have to remember that a logo isn't going to be the tell tale sign that you are a backpacker, it will be your accent and overal appearance that will give it away first. I was advised not to go for brightly colored packs as they draw the eye easier. There is a navy blue version of this which has bright yellow graphics, not ideal. If it does still concern you, why not chuck a badge or something over the top?
+xxVeronica92xx I ordered the navy blue one yesturday. I think i am just going to spray paint the bright neon color, and logo. My primary reason for buying this was because of the antitheft features, and lightweight. +Evan Thomas Great Review, Thank you!
I picked up a cheap knife when in each country but be prepped to throw it away at the airport. they aren't to fond of you taking those as carry on. pots and pans aren't needed, if the hostel has a kitchen, then they have utensils. Yeah I had some flip flops, we refer to them as jandals here in NZ
+Evan Thomas also while I have you. Did you see other backpacker struggling with their packs or carrying items that you didn't have? What model is your hp tablet?
Just saw ALOT of people carrying far too much than they need. And admitting to it when we talked about it. Most common thing was stuff like multiple sweatshirts, shoes and other bulky stuff that you can actually get by with only one of. If you are travelling like this you will have to sacrifice some luxuries like a different outfit for each day, but in saying that, carrying around all that extra make you look silly, inexperienced and an easy target for theifs and scammers.
The model of the tablet is in the video description along with some other gear. I don't have a video of the lock mech but search for it on RUclips and there's plenty there.
Best video by far for no frills minimalist backpacking that I have seen to date. Definitely be using your techniques when I travel Europe this spring.
So stoked it's helping so many people! Hope you have an awesome trip. Random tip, If you stop by barcalona, take a day to visit montserrat and walk up to the top. Amazing views!

I have a pacsafe 25L (venture safe X24 on its way)

my wife and I used this bag for 15 days across 5 European countries. the bag took a beating and was WELL WORTH the money. the security was awesome. I recommend you combine with compression packing cubes.
Hi Koolever3, I'm looking at getting a back like this, where did you buy from?
brifoote i googled it and it came up in the shopping options. I paid around $180. It was worth every cent. Especially when we locked it away and traveled without worry.
brifoote I was just searching and the only on Google is for 400 bucks. I don't know if it is discontinued.
The bag's still available. It's very popular still. Look on www.pacsafe.com/venturesafe-exp45-anti-theft-45l-carry-on-travel-pack/60321.html, but is expensive if you live outside the USA. Very great explaination. At least, my favorite between other backpack travel list thanks to minimalist stuff. I like the fact that you explain how to pack and shortly what to take instead of big big list of what you take with
Hi Dep Steph, I totally agree, visual show-and-tell wins the day. Love mine and am down to 5.8kg, without sacrifing style too!!
You might want to replace your Pacsafe lock, they can be picked easily, and prepare a more functional fist aid kit. Good packing job!
Great video. Like you - I also own a Venturesafe 45 L. I'm a big fan of the bag. Biggest plus is the safety feature. I loved it so much that my packable day pack is also a Pacsafe. Awesome........ one regret of mine is not taking a Diary.....what a great idea mate!!!!
Really helpful! I am travelling from the UK to New Zealand in November!
nice, you are very organised, great to see that and helpful too! thanks and safe future travels :) Lovely color, I also love green :)
Thats a great backpack and a really well matched well complimented set of equipment you have there.
Thank you Evan for your review! It was helped me to figure out that this bag was a very good option for my travels.
Thank you so much for sharing your excellent review of this bag and for providing excellent tips as well. I am sooooo impressed with how organised you were which made for an excellent holiday.

Nice video... we carry 90% the same things (I go overseas light as well)
Useful cheers for taking the time to do that
Awesome video, Thanks for sharing 👍
Your presentation was very helpful. Many thanks!
Very impressive video. Thank you Evan :)
I got a Osprey Farpoint 40. It's 5 litres smaller than yours and felt really roomy. I may downsize in future travels
Thanks for the video. It's so helpful.
Great video, and super helpful! Would you please share the type of tablet pouch you have? i like the simple style of it and small profile with notebook pocket

I'm so inspired 🙌
Hi Geri, I agree. To travel with less is to travel with freedom! Happy Travels:)
It is a very useful video.
What about the day pack at 13.30? I'd appreciate if you drop a link for it. Thanks
This video was super helpful! Thanks so much!
What is the razor model, is it wet and dry use, thanks
can you please link all the items ???really great video!!!

could you please give the name of the day pack and where you got it from? thanks...

where did you get your tablet pouch
Hi mate, great job. One question though. Wasn't this steel wire a problem during security checks on airports especially during bag scanning?? I am planning a trip to Australia and I would not want any problems on airports.
I can't find this bag with the metal clips.. is there any links to store selling it? I can only find it worth plastic ones
Excellent review. Thanks.

Why did you hate your towel?
How comfortable was the plastic against your back? It looks pretty hard?
+madiantin The towel just wasn't as good as a real bath towel. It worked fine but it was all sorts of heaven once returning to a normal towel. The padding on the back is a formed dense foam witha fabric overlay, not plastic, so it sits ok on your back but it doesn't have the best ventilation on the hotter days. That was really helpful. But what is the daypack in this video?
The compartments that you had in the bag like the one with the clean and dirty clothes. Did they come with the bag or do you have to buy those seperate?
Hi Evan! Nice video! Can it fit a 15.6 inch laptop?
Great video! Do you know the model of your remington shaver?
Awesome video man, I would just like to know what is the name of that jacket(shell) and where did you buy it?
Roberto Diaz del Pinal was a brand called Kathmandu, can't recall what model however they have plenty to choose from
Great presentation
Cool and smart, hear all video and try to know where this accent are from, australian or nz?
Evan's a Kiwi (from New Zealand - the land of superb hiking). Aussies generally have broader accents, lol!! Happy travels.
the link to the back pack is dead. what kind of bag was it
Avery N packsafe venturesafe 45, its in the title 😉
... of course it is. Thats what happens when I decide to ask a question at midnight
Awesome mate!
Awesome video! 👍
Great vid! What is the name of the daypack?
What's the name and link to your leather tablet case?
Thank you for the great tips!
Please let me know what that day pack name is?
So you didn't have any bags on the luggage?
Did they ever measure the size of your bag or was it just weight?
Nick Pyne most of the time they didn't even weigh it to be honest. Since it looks like a standard backpack, you'd just be let straight through
Evan's quite right. It's dimensions fit most international airlines. Remember if you change airlines that the lowest weight and linear dimensions apply (might be pushing it on Ryan, lol!!!). I tension mine down so I don't attract attention. Happy Travels:)
Great video! What model is that shaver? It looks really handy!
Jamie Knop Umm unsure sorry. I know it was a remington. Surely has a better model now as it was bought a good few years ago now
Looks bigger than my 55cm length carry on bag. Is it?
+Matt Gallagher Only just, its 56cm tall but easily passed ryanair's carry on size requirements.
+Evan Thomas I got the navy blue one today :( They ran out of the green one which is what I wanted. I hope it will be okay. So nervous!
+xxVeronica92xx I ordered the navy blue one yesturday. I think i am just going to spray paint the bright neon color, and logo. My primary reason for buying this was because of the antitheft features, and lightweight.
+Evan Thomas Great Review, Thank you!
What about flip flops for hostel's showers and utensils, like spoon or fork for eating on the road?
I picked up a cheap knife when in each country but be prepped to throw it away at the airport. they aren't to fond of you taking those as carry on. pots and pans aren't needed, if the hostel has a kitchen, then they have utensils. Yeah I had some flip flops, we refer to them as jandals here in NZ
Thx!! How much was the backpack?
What was the company of the bag liner. I can't seem to find one that doesn't take up more space than I think it should.

is this feasible during autumn and winter in europe. specifically spain, france, berlin, stockholm and amsterdam?
lol yeah my bad
