There's " crafts" and there's " craft" . If the fire auxiliary is putting on a " Christmas Arts and Crafts Show" it's going to be a different vibe than a juried craft sale put on by a major art museum. There's crochet toilet paper holder crafts, and then there's high end ceramic, clothing or wood/furniture making craft. Best to make sure your work fits with the venue.

This is perfect. I’m having trouble finding good shows for me and my pottery Buisness.

I think this advice also can apply to other in person events, conventions and markets. I wasted a little over $1k in bad markets and events. I'm hoping in 2025 I do better choices.

It definitely applies to other types of events too! I hope 2025 will be better for you!

    Thank you!!!
What do you think of craft/art fairs that take a percentage of your sales, on top of a booth fee?

Personally, I have chosen not to do any of those shows. I feel that paying a booth fee is enough, you shouldn't have to give them a percentage of what you earn. Plus, there are a lot of shows out there to choose from. So you don't have to do them...

Peter Anderson Festival in Ocean Springs, Mississippi is the one to go to near where I live the first weekend in November.

This was definitely an important video if you live out here in the Midwest. It includes all the sins I've had to deal with concerning fairs and art shows. I'm too the point where I have to figure out how I can bypass all of this and get my work into areas that can help me and that I can actually profit from. Marketing art is hard out here in the Midwest.

I can relate, but there are some good shows in the midwest. I'd suggest looking in sunshine artist magazine, they have a top 200 list. Any of the shows on that list should be good for sales if you can get in. They are competitive, but worth applying and giving it a try!

    Hello Krystle!
Question: Have you ever used UTRECHT’s primer? Gesso/ or black gesso? The first two I’ve mentioned I have tried and they are both great tools for artists before they start painting. But black gesso I haven’t tried yet and was wondering if you have tried it before? Have a good day!

I haven’t black gesso come on because since I paint with fluorescent colors, they won’t show up as brightly on it. But I do know of other artists who use it and prefer it to white.
