its a nice change from your regular videos but you answered quistion about how you got stareted and some other ones too thanks for shareing with us and now we know alittle more about you too
I was glued to your video. It is refreshing to hear a guy like me, just talking about different things. I even missed my dinner which I will go get now. I will order your shirt today. I noticed you mentioned my question on educating us on different metals. Today I broke down 75 new old stock 1500w halon lights that came from generator lighting used on road construction at night. They have a 25 to 33ft boom. There is a boat load of double copper transformers, all new and soon to be cracked and heading to the scrap yard thanks to you and your channel. I did get some video so far. I hope to post it one day. You’re in my top 5 RUclips channels. Thank You!
@ProjectShopFl What is a good pump pressure to use to crack the transformers? I have some sources to get some used equipment. Thank you. I did put in my order yesterday for 2 of your shirts. I never liked wearing shirts that the companies use me for free advertising. Until I started wearing Carhartt. Now your shirts will be my second brand to wear. I like your ethics. And will be proud to wear them and tell people about you and your channel which I already do. Thanks
@@realoldgeekster The pressure is gonna depend on the size and capacity of your cylinder. Not all cylinders are 10'000 psi. Been a sub and watched for 2 years and some months, glad you told the story about how it started, I work for a scrap yard in N Louisiana and I am starting to want to open my own yard with in the next year. tartaria, is good stuff. if you have not watched My Lunch Break you should. I have a work ethic like yours. I scrapped for years but only do it as a hobby now. I went back into contracting custom bathrooms and floors. Instead of paying rent, why not find a place or property you can own, live on, and have a shop on? One that you can do your thing without disturbing neighbors.
Hey Derek. Always Great videos like all the different items u scrape. I was just wondering if u ever thought of getting some land and building some type of pole barn for your job site. It would save u a ton of money on rent. B safe out there.

I need to watch your older video's here on youtube because i love the video's you post haha. It sucks that i don't live near you i would help you with scrapping and all. With the shirts maybe you can make them on white shirts but i don't mind if it's black tho. Looking forward to the next video('s).
Hey Mr. Scrap Man your doing the American dream, buy low sell high. I would never give out my way of business Either smart move. Just keep being you and make All that Money while you can. Be safe out there. Later….
Great video Derek. Been watching the whole time. I learn something from every video you put out. You keep on going brother. This economic fiasco should hopefully end soon. You will see more infrastructure , including power supply upgrades as AI gets traction. It requires tons of energy. The servers have to be cooled with water. The connectors will all have to be swapped out, so you will see a lot of demolition and upgrades. Keep the faith. You are going to be ok, because you have a work ethic, and you absorb information easily. The future looks bright. Regards, Marc Todd
Offering drop off reduces transportation cost, but then you have to deal with the methonites that show up.There's a guy where I'm at that is open overnight only, he operates from 9:00pm-4:00am. His customers are all people who can't wait until the morning to sell to a normal yard, and need money immediately, which is mainly methonites. He pays way under market, because nobody else is buying in the middle of the night, and runs everything he buys that night to the yard in the morning so nothing is kept onsite.
Content is easy. But from my inexperienced and very uneducated RUclips content creator position, there is still a clear distinction between quality and quantity. I've seen established RUclipsrs that will pump out a video just to have anything produced for consumption. I have stayed your subscriber because you put thought and real effort to have a polished product on a free (ads withstanding) social forum. I am a novice part time curbside/dumpster scrapper (about 600+/- pounds of 95% shred) that goes out 2 or 3 times a week. I have learned many tips on micro scraping that 50 pounds I collect. Don't know what others get from your Tubes, but that's my position. Others in your field are learning from you. Keep on keeping on.
Ya man try the ac deal I had a guy that worked for a crane company bring them home b4 he died and it was good money. We was getting huge ones. One was 30-40 ft long
Thanks for the video man and long time subscriber here. Just had a question and it may be a stupid one but have you thought about trying to buy a piece of land to build a shop on? I know the market is insane right now but surely you can finance something that will be cheaper than your monthly shop rent.
Yes I want land but the down payment is the issue. In my area I would need 50k or more I just don't have it at the moment. My main source of income (Transformers) have dried up from LED's replacing to HID lights. At the same time my bills have went up 4x so things are tight at the moment until I can get some new customers.
Holy shit man, I can't believe you mentioned SA. They opened a yard in my town (southern Georgia) about a year ago. And every single time I've been they've done wonky shit with my aluminum. I'm talking showing up with a big bin of clean cast and get over to the pay window and find out he rang me up for 60% cast. And I'm freaking meticulous in keeping all my commodities separate. Well last week they pulled some shit that felt downright illegal. Like they paid out on my ticket saying a specific commodity, when I know I took in 100% clean cast, old sheet and extruded, all separate. Yet my ticket said "high grade breakage". The prices were almost equal so I don't feel like they were ripping me off. I feel like they're trying to alter their record keeping on how much aluminum they bring in by calling it breakage. Maybe trying to get around some kind of tax or export costs or regulations or some shit. I don't even know. Anyway, just a day before Tom from iScrap App put out a video about how yards try to screw over customers. I'm well aware of all the dirty tricks. Been scrapping almost 20 years now. I ended up emailing him and explaining the entire situation, in much more detail than I've explained here. They emailed me back and told me they need to take some time to digest what I've said and figure out why they would pay for "high grade breakage" when old sheet was basically the same price. I also went back through all my receipts from them and they honestly have pulled some weird shit with aluminum at least 75% of the time I've been. But SA is the only yard that pays CAT5 cable at 50% ICW and also buys clean EC wire (or clean ACSR). I'm not selling all my CAT wire to Schnitzer at 33% price. Anyway, that's crazy you mentioned SA and aluminum because this just confirms they're doing something that fucks us over and potentially even breaks the law in certain states .
Unfortunately buying local is way too expensive. Sadly You can buy 2 or even 3 to 1, from Amazon co.pared to local shops. For too many people it's either put food on the table or pay too much money for something else. I would prefer to shop local but being disabled and trying to scrap to make an extra buck.
I think you are ready for the next chapter. I am hoping you buy your own property, and build or renovate a shop. It would be fantastic content for your channel. I know we would all love to see your skills in action on a custom build or renovation. Maybe you could get a loan to buy a home to rent out, and build a shop out back. I feel like you don't really need a commercial location with how you do things, residential might be a lot more private and cheaper. I know you did that outside before, but this time you get the shop. Either way, keep up the great content and thank you for sharing your journey..

Hello. I have been following you for a long long time. Even before you got your "new" workshop, I watched your videos. I didn't write very much back then. In my country, they have talked about planting more forests. DK produces enough food for 15 million people. We are under 7 here. Now there needs to be more forest, which I think is a great idea. If you want, you could tell a little about where you are from: Your parents, where you were raised. Could be interesting. If I did something wrong in sports at school, I was sent out on a run of several miles. While shopping, I laughed so hard because if there was one thing I could do, it was running. :-D But I was a good boy. I would be happy to help you, have written to you both regarding the floor washer, your trailer and so on, but the problem is that I am not allowed to help you, not even for free, because then I will take the work from an American citizen. The next time I saw possibly must enter the USA, then it is noted, and gets a hell of a deal with the authorities. Unless of course I get a work visa. But enough about that. :-D I will always support you as I can now! Be safe and stay strong. Please use your seat belt. No one knows what idiots are in the traffic.
