    This was an interesting review. Automatic Sun is actually one of the favorites among a certain portion of the fanbase. I actually fall into that camp. Whereas More, although I enjoy it, falls much lower on my list. Regarding the comments about there not being enough variety, I’m a little surprised, although I’ve seen a few people make that comment in the past. The much more common comment I’ve seen is that The Warning seem to experiment with many different musical styles and each song tends to have its own personality. After hearing this album, I wondered if the big complaint would be that they should pick a genre and stick with it, rather bouncing from heavy, to classic rock, to pop, etc. in other words, I thought there was a ton of variety between songs, including musical styles I hadn’t heard from them before, but I’ve also been listening to them a lot longer, so I probably pick up on the subtle differences more. In the end, I think one of the band’s superpowers is that the songs their fans seem to pick as their favorites vary widely, which tells me they have broad, cross-genre appeal.

    I’m a longtime fan of The Beaches and have compared the two bands on numerous occasions, in part because they’re on somewhat similar trajectories. But, taking their respective bodies of work, I think The Warning has a much more impressive catalog in terms of songwriting and diversity of styles. And I think TW would blow The Beaches off the stage in a live show.

    They had already proven they can write in Spanish, and have discussed the joys and challenges of writing in Spanish at length. Two of their very best, most beloved songs are in Spanish, the single Narcisista (a rebuke to people who criticized them for doing English-language songs) and the anthemic Martirio, which appears on their Error album. For what it’s worth, they’ve been singing mostly in English from the start.(I realize I came in too hot when I initially made this comment, way more antagonistic-sounding than I meant.)

      @@NickCinoMusic Totally fair. Your focus was on this album of course, and I was thinking more in terms of ways in which they have already proven capable of writing in Spanish, writing songs in a variety of styles (meaning, outside of the formula followed on these songs, writing songs with lyrical/poetic depth, etc.), which wasn’t fair of me.

  • @ManicSloth24

    Their first songs were covers that were in English. They gained worldwide attention and started writing their own music in English because they have a worldwide fan base. They have 3 songs in Spanish. Someday people will stop comparing them to other sounds and just appreciate their talent on their own merits.

They love that sound but they were so young and now are just having a blast and we'll deserved. No other band out there has songs like, HYCAD. Automatic Sun, Sick, More with those heavy sounds. Very honest review. Be careful using the term "filler". To me that term assumes a motivation or lack of motivation. The band had a few songs and they just wrote songs that they don't even like to "fill" an album. You can like or not like any song you want but because you don't like it doesn't make it "filler". Just my two cents..👍

    • @NickCinoMusic
      @NickCinoMusic  3 месяца назад

      @scottlafleur4148 I use the term filler purely from a personal perspective. We all have different definitions of what "filler" is. I think bands tend to dump the tracks that aren't as strong towards the end of the album. However, imo the best track on the album is Hell You Call a Dream which is near the end

    I've followed The Warning for a long time and am familiar with their entire discography including their initial EP Escape The Mind when they were basically small children. I like this album a lot and have my favorites on it as well as some I don't care for as much. The thing about The Warning (in my view) is that they are really a live band. Anyone who has seen them live will tell you this. It's just an entirely different feeling when they perform their songs live compared to listening to the studio versions, much more so than many other bands I have seen perform live, and I've seen some really great, big name bands in concert. There is just something magical (the it factor) that they inject into their music when they perform live that is difficult to quantify, but you sense it immediately when the show starts. I say all this simply to say that I am anticipating really, really liking the songs that perhaps didn't grab me as much upon listening to the album when I see them performed live. Appreciate the review!

    Recommendation. If you are going to review an album you need to research and contextualize. With the amount of information available is crazy that you said "they found a comfort zone". The sisters with 24, 22, and 19 years old, spanish native speakers singing in english, all of them pianists ,10 years of career and 4 albums (one of them, a conceptual album about a psychopathic lady killer). The three first albums 100% their own compositions. The band was independent until 2 years ago. Their music and lyrics have so many variability, If this album has a more homogenous composition is because the previous were highly varied and because the creative context that they are living.

      @@aliciawooz8417 Music is an artistic expression full of subjectivity. You can't analyze a song or an album without understanding the artist and the context of how it was created. Musical appreciation of a song does not need information but a review of an album does. I don't criticize whether they liked it or not, I criticize the lack of information and specifically their phrase "they are in a comfort zone." If you feed yourself with basic information you will understand that the creative process of this album is the opposite of finding a "comfort zone" and then your review will be focus more on relevant things. Other example is that they discussed that the band is singing in English, being native Spanish speakers being the 4 album that's irrelevant .

    I respect your opinion, in my opinion so far it is their most experimental album, you can see touches of their characteristic hard rock, but also in the song Escapism you can notice their alternative influences inspired by Muse or Royal Blood, in Sharks it is clearly a song that if you don't tell me who they are I can say that it is Nu metal, although I do hope that in the future they experiment more is the structure of their compositions

    I think Automatic Sun and HYCAD could have been switched in the album order. I’m a huge fan of Automatic Sun, but in the context of the album, especially if you haven’t heard it before, it gets unfairly diminished a bit. Automatic Sun is a groove song, so you don’t necessarily end with that, and HYCAD would have been a punctuation mark closer.

    I've loved this band since I saw their cover of "Enter Sandman" in 2013, and I can listen to their first three albums over and over. And you can't help but admire them and root for their success - but I don't like this album. It all sounds alike - that muddy distorted base and drop-whatever tuning on the guitar, the guitar drops out and Dany sings, the short staccato phrasing that makes every line sound like rap, the unecessary effects on the vocals(definitely autotuning Pau's background vocals in one song) and many other production choices that produce a grating industrial vibe. It's not bad, it's OK, the musicianship is great - but the songs are very formulaic sounding, very "meh" for me. NOT a hater TWA, I guess I'm too old, or musically unsophisticated to get it. Best thing on here is "Que Mas Quieres", and I have no idea what it's about. Hey, it's not them, it's me (Man! What I wouldn't give for ONE song on this album as good as "Animosity").

      I've been listening to them for almost as long and was expecting and hoping for something like this. What I was hoping for was the development. The first records were recorded when they were still teenagers, Pau in her emo phase and so on. It was to be expected that it wouldn't stay that way. Evolve is also partly attributable to this, as the songs were written before the pandemic and only came out later because of it.
      Here they have come out of their bubble, as Pau once said. They did something together with others and learnt something from them about writing songs. The next one could go in a different direction, maybe like after the meeting with Band Maid to more solos. Maybe more influences from J-Rock/Metal, or, to be very strong now, from J-Pop and K-Pop. All 3 keep emphasising that they often listen to this and are fans of it.
