In a small venue or huge festival... Nightwish sound is always massive 🤩.
This Beautiful gem of a song is so underrated , Thank You Wally for reacting to it !!!!
PS: that strange guitar sound Was Troy with an E-Bow

I am so grateful that Nightwish tours in the US. They could make so much more money adding dates in Europe or South America but their commitment to all their fans is just outstanding. Hoping that more and more people in the US discover and support them.

One of the best NW songs that goes under the radar too often! Marko’s short base “solo” is so tasty. Glad you enjoyed it.
That effect you heard during the interlude/breakdown was Troy playing the e-bow on his guitar.

Troy is using an E-Bow on his guitar to get that Middle Eastern sound. He's sort of imitating the sound of a mizmar, the reed instrument we often associate with Middle Eastern music.

I LOVED this song on the album! I'd actually really suggest listening to the studio version (doesn't have to be a reaction, just on your own time) which features Anette as the lead vocalist. I think her voice really suited this song.

How about trying Kai's (the drummer) previous band Wintersun? Time (live rehearsal at Sonic Pump Studios) should be a nice one to start. Also, Nightwish's new bassist Jukka who is currently replacing Marko is also ex-Wintersun.

Another great song. An under appreciated performance not as often reacted to. You’re deep in the rabbit hole now. I think you’ve still yet to see either opening song from the Wacken show, Dark Chest of Wonders, or the Wembley show, Shudder Before the Beautiful. Both were great at kicking things off. Agreed that live is best way to enjoy Nightwish. Great to relive the discovery of this band through your reactions.

I saw Nightwish live once, at a festival. There is something about those notes soaring through the open air.

Forkless, I am the exact opposite. In the USA they only play smaller venues, and they are a blast to be so close to the band, it does hinder the experience. No pyrotechnics, and a much smaller video screen and production. I really want the full experience of the show

This is a great performance of a song that should actually be part of their regular set (it is a song that could survive without Marko). A great indicator of Floor’s immaculate vocal ability is the number of times in Nightwish songs when the music drops away, leaving the singer exposed and the necessity to sing beautifully, knowing that any fault in the pitch would be amplified by the surrounding silence. And Floor nails it every time.

Those sounds in the middle are being made by Troy using an Ebow on the electric guitar. The Ebow is a hand held device that uses magnetism to create a vibration on the string. The effect sounds somewhat like a violin. It does not require a pluck of the string, but causes the string to make a sound indefinitely allowing for unique soundscapes to be created. One of my favorite songs using the harmonic minor scale to create a Middle eastern vibe.

yeh it's weird, they seem to get such a boost of energy and emotion when playing live that it makes all the difference. they sound great on their recordings, but there's just something missing. all the little tweaks and changes they add over time also contributes to this ofc, but it just feels like there's an ingredient missing in their recording. and that is the pure joy and excitement of the crowd feeding them energy and emotions, which makes them play even better, sing even better, and have fun! studio recording is so clinical and such a boring process of recording the same snippets over and over to get it just right, i'm sure it kills the emotion they are trying to portray. when playing it live they just go for it!

No, she wasn't. Her top had a wired hem, which makes it stick out so that it gives the effect of a maternity top. But I checked the exact dates, and this show was just about a year before she had Freja, so she would have become pregnant about 3 months after this video was made.
