Oh my lord, 14 years old!!! Wth 14 years old. This is absolutely heartbreaking. Im sending all my love and prayers to the family. I can’t imagine what the brother is feeling! His mom deceased, his brother will be in jail for life! Please pray for this young man and his family!! Keep him in your prayers. Also pray for the mom's boyfriend!

You are misled by the deputy. The 14yo shot his mother and shot at the black man his mother was "dating" and now you need to ask yourself WHY. He was probably being raped or trafficked by his mother to this black man. Now ask yourself ehy thr black man was suicidal? Well that14 yo shot his mother and the black man and shot at the black mans face and groin area. Now ask yourself what would prompt a 14 yo to do that? The black mam who's shot at several times is GUILTY AF about something that the cops are cowering to do their job on and probably covering up for a pedophile they just saved suicide. the sheriff's departments in the Tampa Bay area are 2nd to none. Hillsborough , Pasco , Hernando , Pinellas and Polk county sheriff's are fine law enforcement . That put there lives on the line each and every day . My brother was a Lieutenant in the fire dept , so I've seen first hand the dedication all responders give each and everyday . peace and thank you to each and every one of you . thank you isn't enough to say .

Yeah they're great. But this one was a major fubar. They're villifying the victim and they know what that poor boy suffered and they put him in their detention. Can't commend an officer for villifying and arresting a child who may have saved his own life from the perp they saved... let alone assuming that he will serve life when we dont know all the details. We know enough yo know that 14 yo is the boy, not the grown man whos at fault for causing this apparently. The officer concealed information. Period. If the 14-year-old was being molested by the mothers, boyfriend and the mother didn’t do anything to protect her child, then the poor 14-year-old thought that this is the only way he could protect himself then good for him, there should be a go fund me to get him a damn good lawyer, no child should have to suffer that kind of abuse and for the mother just to sit back and not do anything about it she’s just as bad as a boyfriend, maybe one of these high profile attorneys will have a heart and do a pro bono for this poor child

Whats more likely is the kid, who was already pretty good with a pistol, was in a gang, using drugs, and became upset when the mother's boyfriend tried to get him on a better path. This sheriff had no right to say that the 14 would never see the outside of a detention facility again until this child has had a fair trial. We have no idea what was going on in this home. This child could have been abused by both the mother and boyfriend. Maybe he felt that this was the only way out …

You're missing the big picture. The news is deceiving you here. Motive was avoided and they took the easy out. Blaming the victim and treating the perp as a victim so they can benefit of prison time for a youngboy being raped and standing up for himself in self defense is what I gathered. This is too close to (my) home. This is happening in the suburbs. Riverview has always been quiet and peaceful. I hope the survivors, families, and neighbors grieve peacefully.

There may be mitigating circumstances ......I read an earlier comment he was being molested by mothers boyfriend. He told mom she didn't do anything. He snapped and struck back. I don't know if this is true but if it is and I was on jury or judge sx abuse wld definitely make me think twice about how long he should be incarcerated.

I completely agree with the other commenters that this is one of the best press updates I’ve witnessed - articulate, recognizing his staff, concisely setting the scene of what happened without notes. Obviously this is a horribly tragic, unimaginable situation - and I live nowhere near Tampa - but I couldn’t help but express my admiration and gratitude for this gentleman and his staff.

This happened on my uncles street. Literally 40 feet from his house. Very sad. I believe 3 houses down. I heard about this, this morning. I can't believe he took his mom's life. He's 14? His life is over as well. I feel for the rest of the family & especially is mother. 🙏 He is right. If u are experiencing domestic violence. The Spring will help.

I am sorry for what happened to this family. But something sheriff Chronister said bothers me. Me and my girlfriend lost her sister earlier this year. I called numerous times. At least 8. Others who knew her sister called. She herself called. She is dead today cause this department did nothing. Calls for welfare checks, domestic violence, and a few times mental health interventions. It was blown off as a monster waste of time by Hillsborough. She's dead, and this department can never make it right.

The waste of oxygen she was with had over 30 years of criminal history. Most recent charge, stealing at least $10,000 from someone through forgery. He got 6 years probation. Had they locked him up, she'd probably still be alive. Her sister, her identical twin has been devastated ever since. We just celebrated they're 40th birthday tonight. And my girlfriend's first without her here.

Loved the term "mentally unhealthy" individual.
I recently had an encounter with deputies of the Hillsborough County Sheriff and I can only say good things about them. An online attacker had made an anonymous false 911 call to my house to get me swatted, and about 6 deputies came to my house for it. The deputies conducted the investigation on me in a calm and respectful manner without violating my rights, and also gave me advice on what to do to avoid similar incidents.
Not one time was there any mention of a father. Had there been a father, a dining room table, and two things called love and discipline, it's more than likely that there would be no news conference between the Sheriff and the news about an incident involving a 14 year old killing his own mother. Where's the father? He's likely either dead, or in prison like so many others.
Nice to see they are using the less lethal options for the mentally unstable individuals. Kudos to HCC sheriffs procurement department.

This is sad. This child has not been guided in the proper way to decrease his fears and angers. This is not excusing what he has done. A lot of these problems stem from non communication in the family situation, and guidance in the family structure!

Why does he say that this young man will never see the outside of a detention facility? The young man is a 14 yr old child. Is he going to be automatically tried as an adult because he's black? I thought juveniles who committed serious crimes where held in juvenile facilities until the age of 25 and then assessed and most are released. Though it is terrible what this child did, he must have felt in his mind that he had no choice. He also must be extremely emotionally traumatized to have killed his own mother. Apparently he was trying to also go after his mother's boyfriend. Who knows what went on in that house. I think this child needs immediate psychological assessment and treatment and visits with a psychological councilor. Can we stop throwing black children away, please.
