Possibly Hitchcocks greatest movie. Terrific cast, suspense, humor, cinematic storytelling, all in full measure. His humor faded by the mid-50's. This has it all 100%. Thank you for posting so others can learn of it.

Vertigo and Rebecca are my top 2 Hitchcock movies. Lady vanishes probably has a spot in my top 10,Hitchcock is the best ever!!!

@greekveteran2715 Both of your favorite movies were panned when they came out, but erful day whatever. Especially Vertigo. Savaged. Movies with nothing but creepy dysfunctional characters. The Lady Vanishes shines with charm and intrigue. Have a wonderful day.

Thanks, CCC, for uploading this wonderful movie! This movie THE LADY VANISHES is the reason old movies should be forever preserved and kept well guarded! And it instantenously pertains to the whole catalogue of Hitchcock films, i believe. It is based on the novel THE WHEEL SPINS by Ethel Lina White, except that the plot of the film deviates from the overall novel. It was shot at Islington Studios, Shepherd Bush and on location in Hampshire at Longmoor Military Camp, the site of the Longmoor Military Railway. Actor Michael Redgrave taught modern languages in Cranleigh before leaving the place, coming to Liverpool on stage in 1934 and learned his acting skills thereof. He grew up and matured to be a professional actor at the Liverpool Playhouse. He then joined the Liverpool Repertory Company where he met his future wife, Rachel Kempson. But in 1938, apparently, during the filming of this one, Redgrave and Hitchcock had technical differences on whether or not one had to rehearse many times over a particular scene. So they didnt work together again cos they never seemed to bother.

"He's a damn good shot." Yet he never aims. Hitchcock was pretty lame often. When I was young, a child, I thought this was a good movie because I didn't know any better. Now that I'm not young, it's pretty lame, yet a classic. But a lame classic. But Hitchcock was an adult when he made this, so no excuse for him for being an idiot.

This movie is not good. The plot twist with the vanishing lady is irrational silliness. The ridiculous shoot out? I want to like Hitchcock but Vertigo and Marnie were terrible also. Psycho was an iconic movie on the other hand .
