I like you cat/dog food analogy..so true. Basically, feed your fish what they will eat. I have several tanks and several types of fish so I do feed a variety, but some prefer flake, and some pellets of different sizes depending on the fish. Some eat from the top, some bottom feeders and some all over ;) Some of it is marketing. Foods will say Cichlid Flakes or Tropical Flakes or Community food when they are really the same thing. Someone with just tetras won't buy the Cichlid food because they think that is just for Cichlids so they buy the Tropical Flakes and visa versa so they label them differently.

Good points, I've tried a lot of foods from Extreme, to Northfin, to hykari foods.
Bottom line my Chiclids love Tetra tropical flakes and Extreme pellet foods then frozen foods on occasions.
Bottom line you feed your fish what they like. Some fish are picky.

That is a good point I should have mentioned … what do the fish like? Fish love those tetra flakes, no joke. Mine love extreme pellets. I haven’t had any in a while though. I’ve been feeding north fin pellets, which they like, though less than the extreme. I have some spectrum pellets. They eat it, but don’t seem thrilled with it. Lol.
