This review is still fresh and spot-on 10+ years later. Thank you.

This is very timely for us. When we inquire about wargaming it's either Advance Squad Leader, or Combat Commander over and over...but we did not know exactly what type of wargame CC was. I did not know it was card-driven for example. I just assumed it was hex & counter all the way with dice modifiers etc. I suppose there are cards in nearly all the wargames now, not that cards are a bad thing. Anyway, THANK YOU for posting this 'overview' of this popular series of games, I, for one, needed this.

Randomness and surprise events is very much like the real thing. Being in attack mode and waiting for that move card is very much like the foot dragging, confusion, reluctance to implement amongst the chain, etc that we read about in every conflict in history. It takes away and limits the “God like” view and reaction we have in most war games. It’s a good thing...even though I cuss it when I’m the player suffering through it. 😉 Nice review video. Very to the point to get going without all the fluff and silliness of many reviewers. Thanks for posting. 👍

Great stuff, I really enjoy your reviews and have been studying them in order to determine which wargame to buy next!

The end with the cards and the dice tower makes me laugh XD

Probably my favorite game ever, wargame or euro. Every single game is just a blast and different.

Great Review, one point though - there is no need to track the attack factor prior to the roll, since triggers on the die roll (e.g. the sniper one) do not effect the attack factor - the attack factor + the roll will get "locked in" before you tend to the trigger itself.
    Happy gaming.

excellent review, probably one of your best, because you focused on your memorable experiences rather than the rules.

not a problem, glad the video is working now :)
I was really looking forward to this, my partner and I are thinking about dabbling in a bit of wargaming as a departure from our usual. This, hammer of the scots, julius ceaser, the new band of band of brothers title and conflict of heroes are all options we are checking out so its always great to see your take on things.

haha, what an ending. definitely missing something!
This looks like a fun game, although I am unfamiliar with wargames. They have become more and more interesting as time has gone on, maybe I'll have to try it out.

Superb review. I'm a bit disappointed by CC, though. I do not like this kind of randomness in games, but I can see that CC can definitely be fun as well.
Have you played "No Retreat" (GMT) ? How does it compare? I was trying to decide between NR and CC, and I think I'll go for the former now...
