I have been following casting techniques for years ( and I sand cast as a hobby ) but I have never seen this process before, I had to watch a couple of times to actually get it , I assume that the coating on the styrofoam is to improve casting surface finish ? 10:09
Lost foam casting technique similar to lost wax. Yes the coating improves the surface finish, but also prevents flash / leakage and effectively becomes the outer mould. This is molten steel or steel alloy (possibly stainless) so very hot indeed. The styrofoam will flash to vapour / fumes instantly. Very nasty fumes too, avoid those.
@@VenturiLife do they escape through riser n sprue? i mean the fumes? wont they form bubbles inside the structure n weaken it? also wouldnt there be some residue left?
А что,старый добрый клинкет вышел из моды у моряков? Старьё конечно,но как тонко замечено, они вроде довольны. Льют ребята не сталь ,а чугун.Хрен ты отольёшь так стальные детали! Бывал я в таких литейках. Не то чтобы ад, но недалеко от него!
