You people just don't get it. They are in California, and on a drag strip, which is located way below the mountains, at an elevation of 354 feet. These test numbers are probably posted without launch control, but by just flooring. All of thr quoted 5.9 times are ideals, and can only be achieved with a jb4 st1, and launch. Just by flooring a car, you will never come close. Car and Driver keeps rollout on, which cuts the 0-60 time by 0.3-0.4s. They also do weather correction, launch their cars, and it is really possible the already have pre-tuned test vehicles.
All GM cars are very reliable I have owned all GM cars and still own 7 with less than 75k miles. Y2K Grand Prix GT Sedan with 47k miles 03' Grand Prix GTP with 54k miles 05' Bonneville GXP with 39k miles 05' Cadillac CTS V with 66k miles 08' Saturn Aura XR with 51k miles 09' G6 GXP with 28k Miles (New HF V6 with 305 HP) 13' Chevrolet Malibu 2LZ with 14k miles GM engines are very reliable and haven't given me any problems at all! They all lasted well over 400K miles with minimal maintenance!!
4th Gen 2013 Acura TL FWD with the 6AT and 3.5L 280hp/ 265lb-ft V6 does 60 in 6.8 seconds.. The SH-AWD 6AT does it in 5.7 seconds. Correct your self's please. If not, please let me know what the weather conditions where like.
A Volvo S60 with a T6 engine (300 hp turbo) can be bought for under 46, and would have flat out killed this group. Wonder why they went with a T5 engine? But second place is still good.
Good point, I have had 3's, 5's, and 7series cars, and actually the most pain in the butt is when children are small and require a child's seat, but the most annoying, are the new born rear facing seats, they take a lot of room, and you cant even recline and get comfortable in your seat. I'm glad I owned a 740iL long wheelbase when my son was born, My wife had a 3series but we always used my car for that exact reason. Now he is 4 and faces the front, and always kicks the front seat. can't win
The 3.7 was the most powerful non-direct injection J series engine Honda ever made so it was not inefficient in any way at all. This engine has VTEC on both intake and exhaust, as well as a dual plenum manifold.
I love how the three contenders 0-60 time just happened to be the same order as consumer preference. Curious why all these cars 0-60 is much slower than demonstrated elsewhere. Also no Lexus IS?
If the S60 R-Design were included, it would have been the fastest 0-60 time even over the G37S. You can thank Infinity for having an 80 lb-ft torque deficit...
I have a 2015 Cadillac ATS premium performance rwd with the 3.6! I absolutely love it. The best part is I got it used 3 years old with 30,000 miles for $23,000
BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Cadillac are the only contenders in my opinion, and true driver's cars being Rear Wheel Drive. All the others are Front Wheel Drive based.
Same reason they only got a Volvo S60 T5 that costs 32K when they could have gotten a much more potent S60 T6 R-Design for 44K... That reason being that they wanted to compare base models.
No. It's not debatable. have you driven a Camry or an Avenger? The steering wheel feels like its connected to the wheels with noodles. They're pretty bad on mountain roads too. these cars are what fun to drive is all about. they're also good looking. Very hard to say about the Camry. (Not mentioning the joke-of-an-interior on the Camry) avenger not much better.
So BMW was just under 46K. What happened to the ATS 3.6 for 43K, the G37xS for 44K, the S60 T6 for under 46?? It's as if they designed this for the over-priced BMW to win. Fine, you like the BMW better, but don't make it sound like they're all in the same price range.
To point out that naming random cars that may or may not be faster for the same money hardly is relevant because these are all base models... And a Dodge Avenger feels like a penalty box only a 1990's Kia could come up with due to its interior and refinement...
All of these 0-60 times are slow. The advertised ones are much faster. For example BMW, the advertised time for 328i is 5.9 sec, yet it says 6.6 sec here. I see a lot of people complaining that they have the same car that can hit 60 faster. Don't listen to these guys, although I do like BMW the best just because of the handling and drive.
Advertised times are based on ideal conditions, to which is also what the rated horsepower is at when it comes to weather conditions. This is something like 55 degrees, sea level, and 29.9 barometer conditions (ideal weather). If a tester runs the car at 90 degrees and above sea level, they run the figure through an excel spreadsheet that throws out a calculated number; i.e. a fake-o number that was never really achieved, but "theoretically" possible. On the flip side, a homebrew tester who runs his car when it's 15 degrees, sea level, and a high pressure ridge formed (30.9 barometer), then they can get a real-world number quicker than "advertised" figures.
ATS won car of the year beating the BMW 3 series, remember seeing that somewhere, yet here it didn't even come close. Volvo is nice and a pleasant surprise. Now I know who pays the motor week bills, BMW.
Seems rigged. The Volvo T5? WTF? An S60 T6 (350hp) R design can be had for $46K. Even the regular T6 blows the T5 away in chassis and power, plus brakes.
Let me help you out there, since I see reading comprehension is not your strong point. I said "a magazine's" ability to do 0-60 mph doesn't matter.... I didn't say anything about the car's 0-60 time. So if Motor Week gets 8 seconds 0-60 and C&D gets 5 seconds 0-60, both driving a BMW 335i..... does that factor into the car buying equation? lol
the winner is no surprise, but 2nd place is a surprise, nice to see this, Volvo has been making some good improvements in recent years and has a nice looking line up right now! I'm glad the Cadillac didn't win, they seem to get much praise lately (especially some other model), but I think Cadillac has been putting out some of the ugliest looking cars anyone has ever made, U G L Y :P as far as Camry's go...the 2012 & newer SE models are ok for the $20Ksomething segment, but do not belong here.
BMWs are great until they need basic maintenance, the Audi is just boring, the Mercedes a ripoff, Volvo's are still ugly, and the caddy will wear out long before 100k miles. I would have to go with the Acura
wtf kind of comparison is this? where's lexus and infiniti?
Was thinking the same why is Benz in this lol
Price point for comparison

Seems like the BMW 3-series always wins these contests....
All GM cars are very reliable I have owned all GM cars and still own 7 with less than 75k miles.

Where is the infinti and lexus ?
4th Gen 2013 Acura TL FWD with the 6AT and 3.5L 280hp/ 265lb-ft V6 does 60 in 6.8 seconds.. The SH-AWD 6AT does it in 5.7 seconds. Correct your self's please. If not, please let me know what the weather conditions where like.
The C250 runs a 7 second 0-60 so why the 8.2.?
My 30k ford fusion titanium is just as fast as the bmw and just as well optioned as any of those cars and it looks amazing. Ford ftw
Is your car FWD?
Should have tested a t6, s60. That's the best all around in their price point
A Volvo S60 with a T6 engine (300 hp turbo) can be bought for under 46, and would have flat out killed this group. Wonder why they went with a T5 engine? But second place is still good.

How did they achieve such a slow time 0 to 60 with 305hp Acura
Totally agree
This video is old they should've tested a 2016 V6 TLX that would crush everything
Where the hell did you find altitude? Turbo cars wont even loose much, but they all consistently ran high 7's.
The 3.7 was the most powerful non-direct injection J series engine Honda ever made so it was not inefficient in any way at all. This engine has VTEC on both intake and exhaust, as well as a dual plenum manifold.
I'd happily take any of these cars.
halogen bulbs is why its a 40k car
Yeah 7.1 is slower than what we have seen.... C/D got a 6.2 out of the 6spd auto SH-AWD and 5.6 out of the auto 328.......
Me too. This comparison is incomplete without those 2.
Volvo for the win best price for what you get
The TL SH-AWD 0-60 time is 5.8-6.2 seconds witht he 6AT, 5.6-5.9 with the 6MT.
No Lexus?
Jimmy Jam because Lexus IS the boss level
I love how the three contenders 0-60 time just happened to be the same order as consumer preference. Curious why all these cars 0-60 is much slower than demonstrated elsewhere. Also no Lexus IS?
If the S60 R-Design were included, it would have been the fastest 0-60 time even over the G37S. You can thank Infinity for having an 80 lb-ft torque deficit...
Thats funny my TL was quite a bit faster than the 328 at the track. That was with several passes. Strange you guys never found that.
I wish there was a mention of the transmissions at the beginning intro snippets
The Cadillac is beautiful. Although I like Volvo's new style motif and I think the S60 is pretty sweet.
I'd take the S60 over the 328I any day!
So is a Camry V6. Whats your point? These will kill them around a track and driver enjoyment.
omg, you can't blame our love for this vehicle, the benchmark, the one, the bread and butter haha three series babe
You're right on about the Lexus and Infiniti, but the Lincoln isn't really a sport sedan. It's primarily a luxury sedan IMO.
I know its the new kid on the block but what the hell happened to the 2014 Lexus IS 250 or IS 350?
And an S60 R-Design is faster than an Aveneger R/T. What's your point?
Where is the Buick Regal GS?
I have the ATS and can hit 60 in under 6 seconds your supposed to floor it when you do these test.
jercrow1c How you like it?
I have a 2015 Cadillac ATS premium performance rwd with the 3.6! I absolutely love it. The best part is I got it used 3 years old with 30,000 miles for $23,000
BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Cadillac are the only contenders in my opinion, and true driver's cars being Rear Wheel Drive. All the others are Front Wheel Drive based.
1. 3 Series (best driving)
2. C class (best interior)
3. A4 (because it's an Audi)
everything else does not matter
True. 328i does work on all those. I would've went with the 328i, out of all of them.
these numbers gave to be flawed.....my 2013 accord sport 6 speed is a 4cyl no turbo and is rated at 6.6 to 60
300 srt8. Has 200 hp more then most of these cars and way nicer. Before anyone bitches they do start at 46k
Same reason they only got a Volvo S60 T5 that costs 32K when they could have gotten a much more potent S60 T6 R-Design for 44K... That reason being that they wanted to compare base models.
Also, you cant buy one anymore. It was a limited run. The used ones are selling for much more than when they were new.
what? for 46K that could have been a T6 AWD S60 and it would have easily won.
The Acura TL SH-AWD, hits 60 in 5.3 seconds, not 7.1......
The Volvo design look to plain, the paint on the BMW looks really good. I'd go for the BMW too!
i hate it when they test cars in the mountains where the elevation is so high
You missed a big one here. Volkswagen CC 0-60 in 6 sec. And also way better looking than any one in this list and also in the price range
Fast but ugly
True, really good looking car
Edwin alvarez Fast n fugly. (f*ckin' ugly)
Horribly cheap interior as well
So BMW was just under 46K. What happened to the ATS 3.6 for 43K, the G37xS for 44K, the S60 T6 for under 46?? It's as if they designed this for the over-priced BMW to win. Fine, you like the BMW better, but don't make it sound like they're all in the same price range.
This sucks, missing two important cars in this segment!! Lexus, and Infiniti. I didn't even care to finish watching this video, just garbage
6 car comparison in a 6 minute video? What's the rush? Lot's of info to go over and would have been nice to take your time.
To point out that naming random cars that may or may not be faster for the same money hardly is relevant because these are all base models... And a Dodge Avenger feels like a penalty box only a 1990's Kia could come up with due to its interior and refinement...
In Singapore, these cars cost at least US$210k.
0-60 in 5.3 is not physically possible with that hp and weight, I think newtons laws of physics still holds today...
G37 isnt in this???
The BMW had base headlights. Ew
what horrid times for that price. over seven seconds? is this 1993?
MotorWeek tested the BMW 328i 4 cylinder turbo, not the 335i 6 banger.
Kelsey Mays always looks like he just got out of bed.
All of these 0-60 times are slow. The advertised ones are much faster. For example BMW, the advertised time for 328i is 5.9 sec, yet it says 6.6 sec here. because family sedans are usually 4 doors.
The 0-60 time of the 328i are a full second wrong, it's 5.7
Hell, they could have gotten the 325 HP/355 lb-ft S60 T6 R-Design for UNDER 45K!!!!
Hey, they said $46k sport sedan shootout---The G37 falls into that category.
I like Comparison Test: $46K Sport Sedan Shootout
ATS won car of the year beating the BMW 3 series, remember seeing that somewhere, yet here it didn't even come close. Volvo is nice and a pleasant surprise. Now I know who pays the motor week bills, BMW.
They should've had the V6 ATS
S4?
Seems rigged. The Volvo T5? WTF? An S60 T6 (350hp) R design can be had for $46K. Even the regular T6 blows the T5 away in chassis and power, plus brakes.
definetely would go for the acura ... the least pretentious, most reliable, and biggest engine out of the bunch :)
No replacement for cubic displacement
"If the G37/Q50 was included, it would have spanked all of them"
Fanboy detected. Throw rocks at him.
Why is this man always shouting at me!
Where's Infiniti?
.
+moni jones ?
in Brazil, these cars cost $ 80k.
Where the hell is the G37
Dudes got the fevaaaaa!!
You missed out the Jaguar XE
No Infiniti G37?????
The new IS isn't out yet.
why wasn't the G37 in this test? it starts at $37K and it would've destroyed all these cars 0-60.
If only the G37 were included... Would be the fastest 0-60
Why isn't the dodge charge R/T in this line up . It's 40,000 and a sports sedan . Come on moter week !
Let me help you out there, since I see reading comprehension is not your strong point. I said "a magazine's" ability to do 0-60 mph doesn't matter.... I didn't say anything about the car's 0-60 time. Cause they're comparing to the new BMW which costs $45,745.
I heard 'bitchmark' too. I did a double take. Ha
A southern Californian couple likes the Volvo the best? Don't you guys know how to pick a representative customer~
wrx?? may be plainer but faster and safer than all these....for 35 k loaded
the winner is no surprise, but 2nd place is a surprise, nice to see this, Volvo has been making some good improvements in recent years and has a nice looking line up right now! I'm glad the Cadillac didn't win, they seem to get much praise lately (especially some other model), but I think Cadillac has been putting out some of the ugliest looking cars anyone has ever made, U G L Y :P
as far as Camry's go...the 2012 & newer SE models are ok for the $20Ksomething segment, but do not belong here.
BMW is not that good! Superficial tester's.
Lol junk
G37 competes with the 335i not the M3.
I'd have the volvo anyday!
45k for a 3 series fuck that
The Maxima would've murder all
seriously lol...
+maximus10463 Lmao who wants a FWD... No thanks.
+Jacob Chapman lmaoo so what if it's fwd? dosnt beat the fact that it's better then the rest of these jokes.
+Jacob Chapman wouldn't you like a Fiesta ST?
maximus10463 They're good cars, but not my cup of tea. The new Maxima has a CVT, too. Hardly a "Four Door Sports Car".
Why KIA is not invited?
I heard "bitchmark"? Haha :)
Lexus never made it to their list, why?
The Audi is boring, but not the Acura?
Lol he looked tired and "bead-head-ish"
It's a less desirable "luxury" car. ;)
BMWs are great until they need basic maintenance, the Audi is just boring, the Mercedes a ripoff, Volvo's are still ugly, and the caddy will wear out long before 100k miles. I would have to go with the Acura
Volvo and BMW all the way!
Lexus?
the c class is the oldest by far
