Scrapper is mistransformed. you need to turn the cab canopy around to lock him together, and flip the fists around perpendicular to the forearms (they click into place) and rotate the biceps so the fists stick out the back. it's a little thing but it makes a huge difference to stability. that along with the Mixmaster heel spur make him Tom's more stable in combined mode.

I don’t know if this only works on an iPhone or not, but if you scroll through the last two and a half minutes of the video, you can animate devastators hand as it moves up and down.
Thanks Ben for the review. Seems like floppiness and a general inability for parts to stay together are common issues plaguing both PE's and X2Toys' offerings. That cab add-on for Mixmaster and just juts out forward from the front wheel base just looks odd. I will admit that I would be holding a difference of opinion when I feel personally that functionality and the addressing of initial flaws in the original combiner (weird Mixmaster cab, scrawny upper arms, lack of finger articulation) takes priority over other aspects like matching of plastic colour. Looking forward to reviews on that 3rd option from DNA Designs.
Your scrapper isn't fully transformed for combined mode. You need to turn around the cockpit so the decepticon symbol is upside down. It locks it all together so it won't fall apart and makes him stable. Not sure what you're talking about filling him out though, he's G1 accurate
hey ben, your scrappers arms don't seem to be locked in in leg mode. they accually clip into the side of scrappers body, making the leg a lot more stable.

That's why I was on the fence and I think the high price should be factored into the overall likeability and recommendation for purchase.
That's a very good point , I think it's worth the money but again what I think is exactly that sir just my opinion , I'm happy with my purchase but you can buy a lot of good figures for that same amount of money

DNA desgins is the company making the other Devastator Upgrade Kit that has the alternate heads and they are much better designed then the perfect effect kit.
Hi great review. Question, can we use this set for the Takara Tomy version? Are there any color differences or compatibility issue? Side note: MixMaster cab front is sitting too high. I wish it is the same Perfect Effect MixMaster Cab. :(

Nice set but i am going to skip it. It creates too much extra parts. The current set can store all parts and it still looks nice. The cab for Mixmaster looks terrible in vehicle mode. I think they should have made the cab's bumper closer to the ground. I hope they will make a Hasbro and Takara set, because the green plastic is not the same. Hasbro's is more yellow green and Takara's is neon green like it should be.
Did anyone mention the screw you forgot to install on the left arm to tighten the left elbow joint. Sad that the right is riveted so you can't do anything about it.
+Matthew Todd Agreed. The ONE thing I really want my Devastator to have is the treas to move along with the arms. PE's set has the arms out WAY too far and dont fill out the space between the treas, this one has the shoulder joint up too high and looks empty when the arm moves (I dont quite mind the height change of the arms themselves, but not my personal taste for Devy), but DNA remedies all of these issues. They don't come out too far, the fill in the space nicely between the treads, and the entire shoulder extender moves with the arm I think. I've seen in action and it looks flawless.

It looks better then both PE and X2 and much more of a better deal value wise, I have the PE upgrade think the truck cab for Mixmaster is too big scale wise and in bot mode makes lean cause it adds a lot of weight, DNA is more in scale and looks decent I can't wait till it arrives I might sell my PE set maybe keep the new Scavenger Arm but already got the Dr Wu crane for hook.

After watching this review I appreciate my Perfect Effect upgrade kit so much more. X2's Mixmaster can looks horrible in alt mode, hip plates add nothing, too many liberties taken with the classic Devastator design. X2's set glorious? I think not.

@6:57 Wow, that mixer cab looks like crap in vehicle mode. I kept trying to figure out how to get it to lower down into the proper place, but it wouldn't. So I came to youtube to find a video only to discover I had it right. It's just a bad design. Guess I'll keep the PE cab on mine.

Well, that idea/kit was a slice of awful. There's literally only one likeable thing about the set: Forward shoulder rotation. Nothing else, and I mean nothing else, works for me in this set. Looks like a combo of the PE kit and the DNA kit will make it all work out in the end. X2 dropped the ball horribly with this one. Shame, their Trailbreaker/Hoist set is fantastic.
