Every episode of Griplocked should feature a segment with Gannon discussing everything the guys got wrong in the previous podcast. That would be pretty hilarious, as well as actually showing a commitment to getting things right in the end.

If you're looking for an old, grandfathered-in, no-nubs basket design, check out the HH3 at Horning's Hideout west of Portland. The lower buckets are are made out of truck tire rims.
I am a welder. On hole 7, Trevor commented on the nubs on the basket. Yeah, it could be welded. It would be considerably weaker, and more expensive in the manufacturing of the basket.
I can see it now, hole 18 at USDGC. Isaac and Gannon are locked. Isaac has a shot that leaves him a little short. Gannon pulls out his driver and says, "I know something you don't know; I'm not right-handed." He dominates the hole and wins USDGC in The Princess Bride style.
Thought: keep the nubs on the inside, to stop ramping, but put a metal ring welded on the outside, like the upper band. That way it stops any nub interference from the outside putt, but once it’s in, it keeps it in the basket. Call it Dual band.
I was told by an old school disc golfer that the nubs were designed to keep discs from skipping off the cage and flying 30ft past the basket. I am anti-nub, but this old schooler was confident that if they were gone, I'd miss them.
Trevor watch Ricky’s practice round video possibly Finland? Correct me if I’m wrong but he was playing on a new “smaller” basket that did not have any hooks on the top rim of the cage so it’s forsure possible
The nubs exist to stop ramping. If you have a smooth surface a missed putt off to the side will slide off and get on roller angles much more often than with the nubs. It would be extremely punishing.
This was super fun. It was very interesting watching Hunter get the yips. Hope this doesn't break his putting. Edit: Oh this is why they putt for 24 hours straight
Isaac has it right, there’s a local basket manufacturer in Washington called El Guapo with nub-less baskets. If you hit the rim right it will skip and launch the disc into the air aka getting Guapo-ed
The funniest thing about Hunter when he throws a good drive is he will turn around without' emotion and just walk to his bag. It's very funny to me, he's in his head like "yeah! that's how Hunter rocks, i'm used to it, OBVIOUSLY."

Welding the supports instead of using the hook style would increase production time and cost, which is usually a good enough reason for a company to not do something. Especially when the benefit is likely to be almost indiscernible in most cases.
They could be welded for sure but I think they went with out the weld because the constant banging against the basket would eventually break the welds.

I mean, a putt is a forward facing backhand. If someone got forehand, would you not let them putt forehand while facing the basket?

Re. Baskets...black holes are welded. And it's cheaper to manufacture with loops, not stronger.
