Just put some cuttings into my Betta tank that was overrun with algae after a few weeks of being set up. Hopefully it helps with the excess nitrates and food decomposition. I have a pothos with huge runners that I needed to snip and my tanks needed some help, so it's worked out perfectly
I have this plant growing on my palm trees in Florida. The plant looks small like that when first planted but as it grows up the tree and gets bigger, the leaves get to grow about a foot in diameter for each new leaf. It's an awesome plant.
I've used pothos in my goldfish tank for two years and they got massive in size to the point where I eventually had to pot them ... I love these plants and highly recommend using them..!!

I have two aquariums one in the kitchen the other in the bedroom. The one in the kitchen is a 10g, 55g in the bedroom. I’ve had Pathos in both tanks for two years. Both tanks are planted and borderline overcrowded. I’ve attached the Pathos to under the cabinets, which I had prior to the plants I had installed leds for additional lighting in the kitchen. I have the one in the bedroom growing toward my window.once it reaches the window I will have it grow up and down vertically until window is full. excellent video, good knowledge, it's great for nitrate, its a easy mistake to think a regular filter will reduce nitrate, they wont they will convert ammonia and nitrite to nitrate, doesn't matter how big or how much filtration you have, none of the filters will get rid of nitrate unless specific media inside for this job, water changes are the number one way to reduce your nitrates, its the most annoying part of the hobby especially if you have 8 tanks haha, but its part of keeping things on track.. I use it in my Female Betta tank. She has a bigger tank than my Male Bettas but in just a week her water was BROWN. I did not understand because she is smaller than the boys and more water. So I took my pothos and planted it in her tank. She absolutely loves it and brown water is no more and it has been two weeks. I just did a water change yesterday because it was time and the was was CLEAR. Pothis are amazing. I recommend! One thing I started doing is taking the water from the Male Betta tanks that I removed for a water change and use it for my new Marble Queen Pothos that my great grandmother mailed me. They recovered instantly and they are absorbing the nutrients from the water. It's a wonderful way to give them nutrients without any chemical fettilizers and also lowers the amount of wasted water because you are reusing the fish's "dirty" water to feed your pothos. :)

Hi, thanks for sharing! I have this in 3 of my tanks. I didn't do cuttings, I took out the plant, rinsed really good, trimmed the roots, and put it in the back where I had an opening. Should I have only used a cutting? One is doing super good. The roots look like yours. The other one not as good, the third one is in the filter box. Haven't checked the roots since I moved it. Hi! Great info and video. I most certainly use them in a heavily planted tank, six to be exact. No problem, as I fertilize using dry EI METHOD. Works great with water changes once a week. Three shrimp tanks included.
I have used them only for a year with six anubias plants and an amazon sword. I have not had any issues as of yet. Twenty high with two bettas, one tetra, and six white cloud minnows. I use seven drops of flourish very rarely, it used to be twice a month. Two roots tab capsules every six months.
My tap water is naturally very high in nitrates - 40ppm. I’ve always struggled with trying to reduce it in my 60L freshwater tank. I tried planting the tank up and using chemicals but nothing seems to help. So now I’m trying devils ivy. I’m praying it works as well as everyone says it does 🤞🏻
i use Pothos for all my Chameleon enclosures and im in the process of setting and small tank for a Betta fish im getting soon. This is a relly cool idea as my tanks going to be fully bio. thanks for the idea :)
Thank you for this. I'm having issues with my nitrate levels which is i think above 160ppm on my goldfish tank. I've read that pothos is a poisonous plant and after cutting it, you need to let the roots grow first outside the tank before placing it in. Is this the case or its not needed anymore? Thank you very much!
The pothes plant can be grown in a vase with rocks and water, to use in tank I took off all the leaves and put the stem in the bottom of tank and new leaves will grow under water and not rot
Please change the water at least once every week so that the plants get fresh nutrients, and also clean the bottle or vase before changing the water. A bit of charcoal can be added to bottled waterplants to keep the water sweet, is what I had read.
Wow! Really. I was told they never grow new leaves on the empty stems. How about growing out of water in the soil? Can you bury them while still attached to the mother plantfor them to sprout new roots and leaves?
Pothos works great in all my tanks. It eats nutrients greedily and is my most effective filtering plant. They look great and are easy to keep going for a lifetime.
Cool video, we're growing Hardy orchids in our fancy goldfish tank. I also run an active bog filter on the pond for the same reason, great at sucking nitrates out of the water column. Have you ever used the biohome medias? They take forever to get going but work great once they're fully cycled!
This answers most of my questions, thanks 👍🌿🍃👍 off to home Depot to get several now for my 75 gallon community tank. I won't be placing them in HOB, I've got 2 large open slots in between the filters that would work perfectly. The tank is highly oxygenated and does have a little bit of an alge problem. Don't know why I didn't think of this before!!! I sub'd as well🐟🐠🌿🐠🐟
You have the best video on the Pothos Plant in your Aquarium out there. Very well done! I enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing! Home Depot and Lowe’s don’t carry this plant. Where can I get it?
Sounds like an amazing idea for a my betta. I've seen a video where someone used a sweet potato that grew roots into the water. I'm hoping this may be the same effect maybe on a smaller level. The only problem is I already have plants in my tank. So I'm abit concerned about the pothos killing them off
thank you so much for the information, we got tons of those plants in our backyard and have no clue that it can help me with my aquarium algae condition
Hi Sheila.. I love this.. I intend on doing this for some of my tanks. My concern I don't think they will have enough light so I'll need to rig up lights above them. I have some plants by my windows and I know they don't require full sunlight so I may give it a try before I hang lights. Great video.. Have a great weekend!!
Don't just get it from the store, tear apart each stem all the way down to the roots and just plop it in roots and all. Follow the tips in this video!!! If you cut it like shown in the video, the roots re-grow about 5x faster. (Learned this from my experience being a complete plant noob). Apparently there are "ground roots" vs "water roots" or something like that. If you cut at an angle like in the video, you will see new root growth very fast (3-5 days, based on other conditions). Awesome video, just what I was hoping to see. This pretty much confirms my experience with this plant over the past few months.
I have pothos in my 10G planted tank with a single beta and everything is happy and growing. The beta loves the Pothos roots, chills in them hammock style.
This is a situation where I really needed that Oxford comma lol At first I read it as sounding like “you want to put it in root and all” I was about to jump on saying “that is not how you clone a plant”, which is what she’s teaching us how to do lol Have a good one, thanks for the laugh!
The G.Pothos I put into my tank is growing wildly and the giant goldfish enjoys nibbling on the root system. He pulls the whole plant under the water and usually I leave it there until I get around to putting it back above water after several weeks. That doesn't seem to bother the plant...it's alive and well.
When the roots get long can you trim them down I have them in a 75g with other plants an there doing fine an thanks for being really detailed about everything
I use pothos in my betta tank and he loves it. He lingers under the roots and I can tell it calms him because he's still. I know bettas like places to linger under so its perfect.

Very nice im happy to see my pothos grow
Thanks for brilliant idea
Cool video, we're growing Hardy orchids in our fancy goldfish tank. I also run an active bog filter on the pond for the same reason, great at sucking nitrates out of the water column.
Have you ever used the biohome medias? They take forever to get going but work great once they're fully cycled!
Yes, the media in the tank is the generic version. It did a great job in the tank but you're right it took a long time to fully work.
I sub'd as well🐟🐠🌿🐠🐟
Thanks.
This is alot like hydroponically cloning.
Wonderful! I'm going to give this a try. Thank you.
Brilliant video
Your Goldfish are so cute. I’m wanting to do this for my Granddaughter.
Thank you. Goldfish are great fish but require a lot of work and very large tanks.
Awesome 👌👌
Great pothos video but those fish are cute as heck!
I kinda took some from my mall... Shhhhhhhhh (they didn't mind)
InfinityPets that's funny
Haha, same here. But I took them from school.
I took some from a neighbor but too bad it grew over the fence so it’s technically mine?
InfinityPets iI'm

great vid i also use it in all my tanks and cant be leave i ever did with out it
Thank you so much for your video!
I have added this plant to my Bettas bowls and they lived a long time with it. It orospered.
That plant looks really nice!
But I think I can't put it in my planted tanks!
Great video!
_Keep up the good work!_
*Thumbs up!*
Danny's Aquariums....Works fine in planted tanks.
What if you have moss balls in your tank can you still use these for 3 gallon tanks?
pothos are a amazing plant thanks for making a video about it really enjoy ur channel
Thank you.
I was waiting for this video, marvelous!
Thank you!
Hi Sheila.. I love this.. I intend on doing this for some of my tanks. My concern I don't think they will have enough light so I'll need to rig up lights above them. I have some plants by my windows and I know they don't require full sunlight so I may give it a try before I hang lights. Great video.. Have a great weekend!!
Thank Deb, I'd give it a try first, where I have my plant is very low light and it grows really well. Enjoy your weekend too!
Oh that's encouraging.. I may get working on it over the weekend.. thanks Sheila!
so how was it?
i am planning to add pothos to my betta tank
but i am afraid of losing my bett
fish are so cute😋
Always a desert in my house concerning house plants. Good video!
@@morticco do people really wash meat?
Don't just get it from the store, tear apart each stem all the way down to the roots and just plop it in roots and all. Follow the tips in this video!!! If you cut it like shown in the video, the roots re-grow about 5x faster. (Learned this from my experience being a complete plant noob). Apparently there are "ground roots" vs "water roots" or something like that. If you cut at an angle like in the video, you will see new root growth very fast (3-5 days, based on other conditions). Awesome video, just what I was hoping to see. This pretty much confirms my experience with this plant over the past few months.
do u use it in planted tanks? if u do, did u have any issue with it?
I have pothos in my 10G planted tank with a single beta and everything is happy and growing. The beta loves the Pothos roots, chills in them hammock style.
Also I do use root tabs for the in tank plants
This is a situation where I really needed that Oxford comma lol
At first I read it as sounding like “you want to put it in root and all”
I was about to jump on saying “that is not how you clone a plant”, which is what she’s teaching us how to do lol
Have a good one, thanks for the laugh!
Yes, I cut the roots back and it didn't make any difference to the plant.
Very good,i will test
Awesome... appreciate your efforts greatly. I am going for it...
Great video love it!!!!!!!!!!!
So can I just cut off a little piece of my plant and stick it in my tank? And would you have to put in root tans and stuff like that?
citlalli ramirez STRAIGHT IN ! Cut and stick it in the rear of the tank hanging half in, half out.
Your goldfish are adorable! :)
