Right. Why can't we just have the pitch recognition and midi-out functions in a normal-sized Boss pedal? People already have synths with good-sounding patches. These patches sound bad, and this thing = £500, so it can do one.
Tim Webster completely agree. I have Sonuus G2m and SM Pro Audio V-machine but Sonuus is monophonic... it freaks me a lot. Poliphonic pick ups aren`t for me
I remember picking up Orgy's album Candyass back in the day. I know that Amir Derakh's rig involved a huge Roland synth back in the day. I love both guitar and synth sounds but could never merge the two. Finally, BOSS has realized what I have been wanting for 15 years! I don't care what people say. Screw musical purism; I'M GETTIN' ONE!
0:50 You do not have polyphonic guitar synthesis from a guitar cable if your unit has NO MIDI OUT that can trigger other MIDI devices. Your unit is a closed system forcing the user to one synthesis engine.
Why is the camera deliberately leaving the view of Alex's hands on the fretboard as soon as he starts playing and going to a shot of the unit ? Seems to me that they would want to show off how well it tracks. Ok.. there are other vids that show tracking... but what about chords? And what about dyanamics? All the notes are at the same volume level. I'm hoping this is just because it's not quite a finished product and they don't want to show where it's not up to snuff yet.
The opening 16 seconds seem disjointed and sophomoric. Forget that, my question to the Boss developers: Why no Bluetooth control like Line 6 and Eventide? I talked with Sweetwater and they said many SY-300's are pre-ordered would be released at the end of July. Is Boss gonna wait a year or two to check the demand and then add Bluetooth to market some more? I hope not.
OK - yep, I can see the midi out - but my question is whether it has midi note out to drive other synth gear. The port could just be for control and settings dumps.
Would like to use with with another instrument other than a guitar, what kind of things is the unit listening for? Guessing envelope and pitch, but does it also detect level?
Thing is,you don't seem to be able to mimic other instruments like on other past guitar synths...like piano, sax, strings etc....it just doesn't seem to be worth the bother really!
Common, sounds bad, as a all gr products. If you want play true synth (hardware or vst) from your guitar, go with "Fishman Triplay" or soft based (vst or ios) solution from JamOrigin Midi Guitar (soft polyphony with great tracking, so audio2midi nothing new for 2015 from boss). Just plug in guitar cable to Triplay and usb-adapter to any usb2midi device, than to any true hardware synth (for example some analog rack). Or usb-adapter to computer and play with any good vst sound what you have. Same with JamOrigin, plug in guitar cable to your audio interface, open your DAW, drop JamOrigin and than any vst instrument. And of course, you may midi out from audio interface to hardware. At the end, with Ipad & app JamOrigin + example some app synth like Thor or Iprophet, you'll be the king of the mobile synth guitar. And of course, you may connect ipad to usb2midi device and play with hardware. So, a lot of options for the right guitar synth sound -)
na prasno You don't need any cables to use the Triple play... it is wireless. Install the pickup (that does no damage to your guitars finish) plug the usb dongle device to your lap top... an control any softsynth you have with out ANY cables at all.
Thanks - yep, that's what I wanted to know. Shame - missed opportunity. Definitely not a buy for me; the note recognition tech is cool, but the built in synth engine sounds meh.
albedo0point39 Agreed. Roland/Boss gets so much of this stuff right except the most basic: THE SOUNDS. Gimme this with the sound quality of the patch at the end of this video and I'm so there.
Chris Buono Who cares what it sounds like. I wouldn't be using it for the Boss internal synth. Now that thing hooked up to my SuperNova2 48 voice would be interesting.
Only guitar synth that ever sounded great was the Synclavier back in the 80's. Boss and their menu's suck. I have one right now I would like to sell, the resale on these gadgets is very low. The main bad thing about guitar synths is. it will mess with your playing, ultimate waste of time and tone. Unless of course you happen to be Robert Fripp.
As a long-time guitar-synth user and fan, I have to say this technology is obviously very impressive, but the sounds in this demo are absolutely awful - the worst.

another product, that is basically un usable for anything important.. i bought the roland guitar synth, new one.. worthless.. sounds are crap.. tracking crap.. 1000 dollar waste.
Wow, great piece of gear and Alex is a great guitarist!

Tim Webster I don't have synths. And I one of these. Sad about the price tag though.

Damn, it tracks great, unlike my old BOSS GT and GX. Looks like a fun springboard for ideas.

If sonic state ever get to review this I hope they dare to run a drum machine into it!
Awesome! And that sequence at 7:40 SO made me think of playing the Portal game! 😀
Marc Weerts Exactly what I thought, does kinds of arpeggios always remind me of the Portal soundtrack
That sounds wicked. I want one.
Always love Alex's playing but I'm not hearing a lot sounds I can use here. I guess I could use them in a novelty kind of way.
Interesting bit of tech!
Looking forward to the review!
Just what the world needs.

check my video with the SY-300 also for more sounds: ruclips.net/video/GjWFwetbz54/видео.html

The instrument cable looks different than a standard 1/4".
Yep - does it do midi out?
Looks like clever tech, but kind of cheesy sounds.
albedo0point39 ***** Yes. It has MIDI In and Out/Thru jacks

i have only ONE question.. can i do the gr-300???
yeah but can i use it on my soft synths?
Ok, but its more powerfull than GR55?
Will this work with a nylon string guitar?

na prasno too many cables there.
david laranjeira Where? Wireless Fishman Triplay? Where cables?
na prasno how do you conect the triple to pc to play with vst?
david laranjeira yes

No MIDI Note messages as far as the specs report. Just typical housekeeping messages.
Thanks - yep, that's what I wanted to know.

Jim Walker You lost me, Jim. What's the benefit of plugging this into anything else. Hip me to what you're thinking, brotha!
Chris Buono
The MIDI out can control multiple external synthesizers. Imagine having that thing MIDI into a Moog Voyager....oh man.
I'm glad my 35 year old GR-300 still sounds better than this. Much better

Finally I can sound like a backup guitarist in George Clinton's band. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And what about polyphony?!
