As a birthday treat, my son took me to see Lou Reed when he performed at the Barbican in London, during his 2011 tour . . . unsuspecting that this would be his last one. I wept when I heard the news that Lou had died, which happened early the following year. Thank you, son, for such a priceless birthday present! ❤❤
May Lou Reed rest in peace, and may his soul come to see the light god bless everyone
You can be certain that Lou Reed didn't believe in "God".
@@jnagarya519that's between Lou and God. None of us know the answer to that.
@@alangray9117 1. Lou Reed was not the nicest of people.
2. It can't be proven there's a "God".
@@jnagarya519 I met lou in Kansas City Missouri in 1989 in a local record store and had a front row ticket for his show that night at memorial hall in Kansas City Kansas. Only myself and the owner of the store recognized Lou. He was looking for surf and doo wop records there. We talked about music for 15 to 20 minutes outside on the sidewalk and he was nice. I was flattered when he was surprised by what I knew about music so he was kind to me.
What a great and unusual playlist !!
Really..
💪
thanks so much for sharing this. lifelong lou reed fan who never got to attend a single one of his live shows. always too broke when i was young and never in the right place at the right time. still, a lifelongfan since I first heard the velvets in 1968. RIP, Lou. you were certainly loved by many

thanks so much for posting this. a life long ( 63 years young now ) fan of the late, great lou reed.
Lou dug deeply into his song catalog for this setlist. It's nice to see so many phases of his work represented here, including many songs that he rarely performed live.
Thank you! Thank you Lou...
Fuck, I miss Lou Reed. Crying already listening to Who Loves The Sun, thinking about how grateful I was that I got to share the earth for a while with one of the greatest rock n roll creators of the 20th century golden era of popular culture. My biggest concert regret was not going out of my way to get to Lollapalooza in 2009 when he played one of the only live performances in the US in the latter part of his life. But that’s ok, I’ve made peace with that, I mean, hell I was a drug addict hopping relapses and rehabs at that time so I was preoccupied even though I saw it and thought about it, unfortunately it didn’t happen. I miss him dearly every day and am forever grateful for what he did artistically for humanity.
What he did for humanity!? Like glamorizing heroin?
@@jnagarya519 he didn’t glamorize shit
@@bitfrankie That isn't what people I knew said. There were people who took LSD BECAUSE "The Beatles" did. And there were people who took heroin because such as "Velvet Underground" did.
I was there. You were not.
@@jnagarya519 if someone listens to “Heroin” by the Velvet Underground and you think “I should take heroin”, it’s not their fault tbh. I feel very sorry for what you said, but it’s a fact that the song doesn’t glamorize the drug. Lou talked about this issue:
“I meant those songs to sort of exorcise the darkness, or the self-destructive element in me, and hoped other people would take them the same way. But when I saw how people were responding to them, it was disturbing. Because, like, people would come up and say, ‘I shot up to 'Heroin,’ things like that.”
@@bitfrankie Couple "Heroin" with "Waiting for the Man" and one DOES NOT have a denunciation of heroin. Rather, to the inexperienced who think trash-rock is "brilliant" it is an endorsement -- an encouragement.
The interview with McCartney where he was asked if he'd taken LSD, and he didn't lie, and the interview shortly after saying that he answered the question honestly, and wasn't encouraging its use, didn't discourage those who figured, "If it's okay with 'The Beatles' then it's okay."
The fact is you keep twisting in the wind trying to find an excuse that would obscure and distract from the reality: during the era when that LP was made and released, there was enormous curiosity -- and ignorance -- about drugs. And there was a pervasive believe that, as the gov't had lied about the effects of marijuana, then it had lied about ALL drugs.
Be honest for the first time in your irresponsible life: Trump spread violent rhetoric, and his supporters ACTED on it. Words matter, and people listen to and adopt them as their beliefs -- and act on those beliefs. "The Velvet Underground" didn't make the decision for listeners to take heroin; but they put the word out GLAMORIZING it as a means to be "hip".
What a performance, imagine it was two years before his death, may his soul rest in peace. Thank you so much for this outstanding and wonderful video. I just can’t thank you enough. I send my love to all the Lou Reed fans. 🌷🌼🌷

R I P Lou Reed. Beautiful all round/all over in every way.
Love it. Thanks for the upload!
I saw this UK tour in 2011 in Wolverhampton, a small intimate venue that really captured his amazing sound. Best concert I've been to. The opening raw, powerful version of Who Loves The Sun to stripped back classics like Femme Fatale and I'll Be Your Mirror. A great memorable evening!
Great 2nd track in this set (All Through The Night) and what a version of Ecstasy. I'm in tears
Absolutely, kept me ,on the verge of, Ectasy...
a legend!
Saw him on this tour, in Leamington, UK. Strange, but I don’t remember the additional members of the band. Thought he looked frail, but it was probably the best gig I’ve seen give. Kim Cattrall came to see him backstage. Later outside my daughter shook his hand. Miss you, Lou.

@@andyclayton9204 Ha ha - yes indeed!!
I was lucky enough to catch Lou up in Toronto not long before he died and feel quite fortunate to have done so. My seat was too far to really make out his facial expressions. However, you could readily make out on the video here, pronounced movements with his tongue and mouth that appear like tardive dyskinesia. I just wondered if he had to contend with that in his final years. His songs were so wonderfully penetrating and real...I'm glad he had Laurie Anderson for his final years...
wow, like that 2nd tune
Thanks I agree that 2nd tune!
Grazie.
Seeing this for the first time. Wonderful. Thank you for posting. Lou was so brilliant...lifelong fan! And so fortunate I got to see him a few times in concert and got to meet him.

Great document, thx for posting. Just mentioning that Lou Reed`s last tour was actually the following year, 2012, as seen in the film here on RUclips (in blistering form) Lou Reed in Slovakia at last (Pohoda Festival).
Mr non conformity. Lots to love in all his phases. He's an old man here and still destroys.
New York, got love it 😎
So sad! R.I.P.
Great!!!
I saw Lou 2x. Love his stuff. He's one of my fave musicians. Yet, going to a concert is not like a normal concert. Its an experience.

This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing it. I love that long, hypnotic version of "All Through the Night".
I saw him in Atlanta at the Fox theatre in the Egyptian room, never will forget him. Wish I could understand the words to All thru the night better.
@@susanwhitaker When all the great songwriters and performers are gone, I'll still miss Lou the most. There was no one like him.

Realmente increible, Argentina ama a LoU Reed!!!
I saw him outside Keith Richards book reading at the NY Public Library. Shook like an old woman.
lou was sick, had had hepatitis since his early 20ties. he died at 70. let's see you live as long and be as productive.

Who is the viola player?

@@fartfacejohnson My name is Diodore, SJ. Pretty unique.
My last Lou Reed show was in 2008 at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park in New Jersey ... And I don't remember what he played.... But the theater felt empty Lou didn't have as much energy and enthusiasm as this show ... I remember walking in looking at the t shirts hanging... And I bought one with Transformer on it and the dates on the back .... And I'm thinking what tour is this ? It seemed like it was just Lou Reed not touring for a album tour .... And it was like 75 minutes and from what I remember he just got through it and left ... I remember feeling very empty afterwards that when I walked out of the exit I saw a bus lit up thinking it was his bus .... Lou seemed so not sure pissed or disappointed with the turn out but I just stood there pacing waiting for something to happen ... Nothing happening so I left ... And felt that feeling was this the last show I was going to see of Lou ... It was my third and after seeing the NY tour where I did meet him at Princeton University ( I ran up these circular stairs left side of the stage and when I got to the top there he was in a broom closet dressing room this was when Silvia was there... He sat there starring at the floor with a lit cigarette with his guitar still strapped on.... He saw me .... I slowly walked in no one was around ... and I made very calm small talk like holding on the corner of the room just terrified ... And I think he just sort of starred ... Earlier I'm sure doing the encore of Sweet Jane I hoped on the stage next to one of the PA speakers to take like a bunch of photos which I cherish to this day ... And my guess he probably remembered me from the stage cause he looked right at me in one of the shots ... And what might of helped I kind of looked like him during his 1972 period ,,, Like it was a younger Lou meeting a older. Then Silvia appeared and was liked surprised to see me there... Lou said it's alright... I was just thinking of anything the show the NY album the guitar anything... So I can stay... But Silvia's presence made me think it was time to split and down the stairs I went ... I brought my friend with me who was like what the hell .... And I was just in shock euphphoric... Then 2000 came and I saw the Ecstasy tour and I didn't even know the album was even out ... And most of what seemed to be a 2 hour show he played most of the album but I dug what I heard... Became one of my favorite albums .... I just remember having like 2nd row center at that show same theater Paramount in Asbury ....
What happened to Michael Rathke? Fernando Saunders?
R.I.P.
He mouthed to the assistant saying about the electric guitar : "no no, too heavy". It's so so sad, he suffered from diabetes, liver malfunction, dry mouth (look at him touguing his cheek to keep moist).
You're going to reap just what you sow
@Roberto Munoz He put in a lot of effort into actively reaching the state he was in at the end
Liver "malfunction": heroin will do that.
Bullshit ... booze kills ... herion does nothing damaging to your body ... not having it (hanging out effects your body ) ... go do some research before you embarrass yourself again ....
Perfect Day ... he wrote his great funeral song without knowing ...
The only 1080p concert
Sempre LOU RED
this is Lou, notice the swollen abdomen, what killed him, hepatitis. The man went out on top! Sometimes tired, sometimes not. Mr. LOU REED went out on TOP! any haters out there. please stop past my house after dark, ok?
george zeman hepatitis from IV heroin drug use, alcoholic cirrhosis, both. Sad thing is we can now cure Hep C 100%. Alcoholic cirrhosis or liver cancer is the worst disease the liver can never recover from.
Alcohol is the worst chemical known to man, worse than cigarettes and all the hardest drugs ever created. Alcohol destroys the brain and irreversibly, faster and more severely than Alzheimers. Alzheimers is treatable; alcoholic dementia isn't, not one bit.
Lou Reed was dying and knew it likely five to ten years before his death and did everything to get better but it was too late. Alcohol the one thing America appropriately banned be never will again. Alcohol the thing that killed Lou Reed and one of my best friends early. Alcohol far worse than HIV, Hepatitis C, B, D and A, even worse than opiates and IV heroin.
Alcohol - the world's number 1 killer. Period.
That young kid up there has no idea how lucky he is to be up there with Lou Reed. No idea.
@@cmetube That young kid gave amazing interviews after the fact; he does really know everything about how lucky he was and tells a very touching story.
@@cmetube "Lou Reed was dying and knew it likely five to ten years before his death" - that's a long time to know you're dying, lol. Oh wait, we're all dying and nobody knows on what date! Enjoy your time, folks.

Incredible, brilliant & fantastic concert …. LOU is a Genius
What ARE they throwing onto the stage?
this concert took place in Roman arenas. Cushions are distributed at the entrance to be comfortably seated. The tradition is to throw these cushions at the end of the concert if the audience is happy.
