In Sony land, WH means wireless headphones, N means active noise cancellation and the number refers to the position the product holds in their lineup. So WH H910N means it's a pair of wireless headphones with ANC and they're pretty highly placed in the lineup with only the 1000 series being above them. WH XB900N means they're the extra bass version of ANC wireless headphones in the 900 series. It's not noob friendly but similar to graphics card or CPU nomenclature 😅

@@MarkEllisReviews Ha ha. Yeah, it can get quite frustrating and the same is true of Sennheiser but I honestly have a bone to pick with Apple naming their cans "Airpods Max". 1st is they're not pods or buds, but I guess that's Apple's way of naming their audio products, starting from the iPod. Hello! I've not tried the 900ns, I'm afraid, so tough to recommend. But the Hear On 3 are superb for the price, therefore if you can forgo that fold flat design, they'd be a great buy.
@@zaylek6568 hiya! I ended up buying some Bose QC35ii headphones in the end, second hand, off eBay. They are very good, but get abit hot, when using in the gym. That's the same with all, over the ear headphones, obviously! So unfortunately, I can't help you with your decision. But good luck 👍

Yes, earcups are removable. Search youtube for "AHG WH-H900N h.ear On 2 and h.ear on MDR-100ABN ear pad installation". It's the same procedure for the h.ear On 3.
I bought XM3 because they are more comfortable and feel more premium, but I have no doubt than H910N are way more value for money. I compared XM3 to XB910N but they are more bass oriented, not so refined. I also loved Philips Fidelio 3 for sound but still not so nice to wear as XM3.
I'm thinking about upgrading from the WH-H900N (H.ear On 2) to XM4 because the latter is on sale. The existing headphones are among the last few micro-USB devices I own.
Good video man. I have a pair of these arriving next week, I am currently using Bose soundlink 2 that I bought two years ago. Wonder how they will compare, big difference will be with the noise cancelling.
Thanks for this video, even though I was not able to find these h910n I'm quite disappointed. This line of hear.on from Sony it been always good but it seems that now sony is neglecting it and leaving it as a lower tier choice. Here the only headphones available are the 1000xm4 and the xb900n, but in the past the hear.on models were on top of the line. I hope Sony show us a better design and 40mm driver with the hear.on 4 next time.
Had 3 pairs of the wh-910n all returned as the left speaker went in all 3 !! sounded blown with no overly high volume or bass boost etc , just normal use . all 3 pairs same exact issue. Just got the XM4's and so far so good but only on day 2.
scary. i got a pair of vmoda m100 and one side died after a few months. other poeple were saying the same thing online. but vmoda had great warranty service to fix it. i would like to try out their new m100 master and m200
Thank you for this review! I can't decide between the hear on 3 and 1000xm3, the latter seem to be a better option in terms of quality but I'm afraid the fake leather on the head band will start flaking after some time which shouldn't be an issue in the hear on 3, right? 🤔
Have been using the *xm3 and the *xm4 almost daily over months I can assure that there is absolutely nothing "flaking" - the only component which is flaking off is the battery’s performance; I guess after 1,5 years it’s not even holding 30 hours (10 less when the *xm4 was bought in 2020). Which reminds me to my first “headsets” bought a decade ago (Sennheiser) where the battery could be replaced easily (which is something you could consider, spending 300 Euros for a new device - just my two pennies).
Not certain but I think the h910 uses a smaller driver and some people prefer their sound. I was tempted to get these because I like the green colour but I went with the xm4 as there was no discount on the h910 at the time. One thing that bugs me about Sony is that many of their best products aren't available outside Japan unless you want to pay a premium to use an import service. They have a line of in ear monitors and earbuds that are highly desirable but very hard to come by.
great video, I'm waiting for black fri deals, not sure the MX4s are worth the price, the new apple ones are on the horizon as well, so many to choose from!!
Do these sound the same on Android and iOS . Just worried about the codecs. Currently I own a BOSE QC 35 and sounds better on iPhone than Android. Thinking about getting these for Android. Any advice would be great.
I've just bought those for 140 euros on the amazon store .....because the xm4 and xm5 are too expensive for me....just doesnt wanted to spend 300+ on head phones...i know it's now an old model without all new fonctionalities .....but i'm sure they are good value for money at this sell price
Concerning effectiveness of noise cancelling you are sure not to hear any substantial difference between those? I have to decide between these two and noise cancelling is a very important feature for me :)
I just read several reports of the headband/hinges on these breaking in just a few months of use :( Unfortunately, I didn't come across those before, mine are arriving next week. Have you noticed any physical cracks or durability concerns over time till now?
I see a brand new pair for 80 bucks....do you like yours? I listen to alot of different genres of music and I listen to a lot of podcasts on ancient history. I'm aloof so I have headphones on at least 21 hours a day, are they a good purchase?
@@MarkEllisReviews Yep, I know. But headphones, which offer IP protection, are pretty bad, comparing to these. I've seen many people with Beats Studio 3 at gym. Those are even more fragile... 🙄 Also, one man had been wearing 1000 without sweating and got it broken "because of moisture" (official conclusion). While another my friend uses 1000 at gym more than a year now...
@@8000860 I think the answer to this (and the moral of the story) is that it's entirely up to you if you want to take them to the gym, but Sony probably can't be blamed for any durability issues should they arise as a result. My advice with the gym/working out is always to opt for in-ears with a decent IPX rating, just for total peace of mind.
Great video! I just purchased the 910’s, my only gripe as someone who didn’t take great care of their hearing is that they don’t seem to be very loud, are the xm4’s significantly louder?
Thank you! As for loudness, I'm yet to come across a pair of over-the-ear headphones which couldn't damage your hearing when used at full-blast. Sorry :(
Thank you so much! And that feedback is duly taken on board. Thumbnails are, without a doubt, the thing I fear most while running this channel. But it's a good fear, and one I intend to keep working on :)
Great review, but, you're wrong about the not being able to hear yourself... take a call with ambient sound mode on, believe me, you will hear yourself loud and clear lol...
Have got both WH-910N h.ear on 3 for $129+Tax (From Costco) and XM4 for $278+ Tax (Bestbuy) but Still debating which one to keep. In terms of features, am usually all in for latest techs and XM4 has just one extra feature which isn't present in 910N, i.e Wear Detection to stop playback. These days even the Jlab Earbuds have this feature.
I laugh at 35 hours of battery, my budget oriented Edifier W830BT's have a battery life of 95 hours, charge em once every week and a half, use them constantly and construction wise, have held up. Would definitely recommend, they don't get enough attention
I've never used those cans. But I do think anything over 20 hours is good enough, to be honest. The danger of devices which rarely need charging is that, ironically, you _forget_ to charge them!
Totally agree with everything Mark says these are amazing headphones the one thing you didn't mention tho Mark is the ambient sound I wish you had as I'm a bit unsure on what it is lol however I have the bose quiet comfort series II and paid £280 for them and I think the Sony H910S are so much better than the bose I have the bose ones crackle far to much and the H910S don't crackle at all I bought these only a couple of days ago and im really loving them they cost me £149 and I will say it again much better and much cheaper than the bose its un real really I don't think I will be using my bose as much in the future since I have become really attached to these H910S say no more!
Really? In fact this is the only product they have named in the last decade that really works, these are the "Hear On 3" forget about the rest, those are just the serial number and the specifications, that's it, just call them Hear On 3
It's certainly easier than the other name Sony have given them, I'll give you that. It's such an odd name for a pair of headphones though, wouldn't you agree?

Hello! I've not tried the 900ns, I'm afraid, so tough to recommend. But the Hear On 3 are superb for the price, therefore if you can forgo that fold flat design, they'd be a great buy.
@@MarkEllisReviews Thanks for the reply. I'll give the Hear on 3 a go then. Cheers 😊
@@arryt3912 heyo, wondering how the hear on 3s are? I'm torn between the hear ons, the xm3 and xb910n?
@@zaylek6568 hiya! I ended up buying some Bose QC35ii headphones in the end, second hand, off eBay. They are very good, but get abit hot, when using in the gym. That's the same with all, over the ear headphones, obviously! So unfortunately, I can't help you with your decision. But good luck 👍
@@arryt3912 ah it's alright thank you so much thoughh, the Bose qcs were actually on my list of maybes for a while but I ended up trying on some Sony's in store today and just fell in love ahha. Thank you thoughh, I think I'll probably end up trying to grab a pair of xm3s off eBay as well. Thank you I hope you enjoy your headphones!
Would you recoomend the h.ear 3 over the xb 900n?
Are the earcups Removable? Will it be hard for me to find a replacement for it?
You know what? I don't know for sure. Most ear cups can be replaced on over-the-ear headphones, though.
I'm in the same situation and still have doubts. I read in some forums that the sound quality its not so different.
thanks. but man. i need a roadman review for the sound quality comparison, since i only listen to drill.
I just bought the xm4s as an upgrade from the hear on 2s as the nc and ambient noise has broken. Had them 5 years so not too bad
ambient mode on the xm3s set to full is great for call quality!
Good video man. I have a pair of these arriving next week, I am currently using Bose soundlink 2 that I bought two years ago. Wonder how they will compare, big difference will be with the noise cancelling.
Thank you! And that will be an interesting comparison...
I hope Sony show us a better design and 40mm driver with the hear.on 4 next time.
how about the skullcandy venue vs sony hear on 3?
which one better?
Haven't used the Skillcandys, I'm afraid. But if I do, I'll be sure to compare!
Hesh AnC vs Sony Wh 910N ? Which one to get for similar price
Well were I live they're the same price because of Black Friday and Christmas, so which one should I choose?
That’s easy - get the XM4s.
@@MarkEllisReviews Yeah I know it's kinda obvious, just wanted to see what you thought about that. Also I prefer the design in general of the xm4
You won’t be disappointed. The slightly more premium design and carry case make it a no-brainer in your case.
I wasn't aware of that, but now I'm annoyed by it, too.
yes the h910 have 30mm drivers vs XM4 with 40mm. Not sure why smaller would be preferred but it might explain longer battery life.
@@mithers Sony wh h910n has 25 mm drivers :'/ not even 30mm which even cheaper headphones have.
great video, I'm waiting for black fri deals, not sure the MX4s are worth the price, the new apple ones are on the horizon as well, so many to choose from!!
Thanks Aly. I’d really consider the H910s - they’re a hell of a deal at the moment. But yeah... what will Apple have in store? Stay tuned!
nice review
Thanks!
New sub. Thanks for the video. I have been wondering if they were a decent alternative. Amazon has a renewed pair for $89
Thank you, you won’t regret subscribing. Lots on the way. And that’s a killer deal 👍
Do these sound the same on Android and iOS . Just worried about the codecs.
Currently I own a BOSE QC 35 and sounds better on iPhone than Android.
Thinking about getting these for Android. Any advice would be great.
Hi John. I’ve tried them on both platforms and can’t notice a difference! Any difference is likely to be pretty minute, I reckon.
I've just bought those for 140 euros on the amazon store .....because the xm4 and xm5 are too expensive for me....just doesnt wanted to spend 300+ on head phones...i know it's now an old model without all new fonctionalities .....but i'm sure they are good value for money at this sell price
Is the h910n good for pop music?
Yep.
Worth buying WH-1000XM3 this year? They're about $200
I ordered XM4 but not sure how work on conference calls like zoom or Skype etc.
Concerning effectiveness of noise cancelling you are sure not to hear any substantial difference between those? I have to decide between these two and noise cancelling is a very important feature for me :)
Nothing significant, no :)
Im planning to buy xm3 or This ? Help me
Is there adequate bass in these ?
Yes.
I have the Skyish blue of WH910N :) and of course just love SONY!
Mark if ever had pair of Bose headphones the have what is called side tone to here your own voice while on a call
Nice bro!
Thank you, Idris!
Thanks
I just read several reports of the headband/hinges on these breaking in just a few months of use
:( Unfortunately, I didn't come across those before, mine are arriving next week. Have you noticed any physical cracks or durability concerns over time till now?
ahhh finally !! Thank you
Why is nobody comparing these to the qc35 II?
Just ordered them in blue for 156€
I was thinking on buyong the 910n but read that are delay audio when playing video games on pc through Bluetooth
Is that true?
There will always be a slight audio delay with Bluetooth latency, but I've never tried it with gaming, so can't comment I'm afraid.
@@MarkEllisReviews thanks, but there you have a video idea hahah
@@micha.a.v Oh god, and that would mean I'd need to buy a new console and everything...
@@MarkEllisReviews PC would be just fine
Listning on hear on 3
I see a brand new pair for 80 bucks....do you like yours? I listen to alot of different genres of music and I listen to a lot of podcasts on ancient history. I'm aloof so I have headphones on at least 21 hours a day, are they a good purchase?
Thank you for the very good review. Just a quick question, is that a Bonsai plant next to you?
Thank you! And indeed it is - well spotted!
And, specifically for gym, which one would be better? 1000 or 910?
I personally wouldn't use either for the gym - they're really not made for that purpose and I wouldn't trust them with sweat.
Sorry :(
Even at 100% the sound isn't enough to drown out like loud crowd noise or gym noise?
Thanks!
The 910s are currently £110 on amazon in black. The other colours are £170.
Wow you have a beautiful voice🥰
Feedback:I love everything about this video but the thumbnail is not that good so people aren't clicking the video
Thank you so much! And that feedback is duly taken on board. Thumbnails are, without a doubt, the thing I fear most while running this channel. But it's a good fear, and one I intend to keep working on :)
:)
The thumbnail is great!
@@dmitrys.4741 Thanks! It's one of the toughest RUclips skills to get your head around for a non-designer like me.
I was originally gonna get the black one untill I saw this video with the red ones
Great review man! These are selling on eBay for about $70-$90 now, about to pick these up!
Thank you! And that's a bargain!
The red and black colour looks so Erd Yb Staeb(Let’s see if you get it or not)
Got it. And you’re totally thgir.
@@MarkEllisReviews Yep. Just in case, it's (almost) reversed Beats by Dre classic black and red colour🤣
Great review, but, you're wrong about the not being able to hear yourself... take a call with ambient sound mode on, believe me, you will hear yourself loud and clear lol...
Noted! Several others have told me this, too ;)
Just got them from Costco for $99!
Just bought them for 119 Euros (black), right now that's around 102 £.
Save yourself some money and keep the 910Ns.
I've done the exact same thing, gonna keep testing them but the h.ear on 3 really are such a good value.
So, which one did you keep? I'm in the market but I cannot justify spending $200+ for the xm4's when 910's are available for $74.
Sony colours are odd the grey colour is more off a peachy cream white colour not grey.....
True. I don't mind it, though.
Let me guess your favorite color hmmm 🤔 yellow? Definitely not red
Weirdly, I don’t actually have a favourite colour. But I do seem to buy lots of red things.
Also don’t call it wh1000-xm4. Most of us call it mark 4
Totally agree - it's why I refer to them as the XM3s and XM4s in my videos.
Really? In fact this is the only product they have named in the last decade that really works, these are the "Hear On 3" forget about the rest, those are just the serial number and the specifications, that's it, just call them Hear On 3
What on earth does ‘Hear On 3’ mean, though? It’s such an odd name. Sony makes a real pig’s ear of product names, dude.
@@MarkEllisReviews nothing, doesn't mean anything hahaha is just an easier to remember and say name
These do not look like 910n headphones
...but they are?!
Just call it hear on 3.
It's certainly easier than the other name Sony have given them, I'll give you that. It's such an odd name for a pair of headphones though, wouldn't you agree?
hi
