    Suffolk Downs has the best railfanability, go on the bridge when they finish fixing it, look towards Beachmont.

    We need a red line tier list at some point too Nick. I know the green line was asked for by a prior commenter. Surprised Beachmont wasn’t higher. Miles in transit rated Beachmont his favorite station on the entire MBTA system.

    The platform stone finish floor at Bowdoin is the best of all the stations. It's always shiny and clean looking and easyn to maintain. Something positive.

      If they ever renovate Bowdoin (that is if they don't decide to completely close and demolish it), I hope they keep the whole "1970s" feel and really lean into the whole time capsule thing.

    Aquarium has experienced a lot of flooding issues in recent years even after the extensive 1996-2004 renovation. The renovation was meant to fix flood mitigation problems and to stop the station from getting flooding damage by water leaking or pouring down onto the platforms from the mezzanine area or even outside on street level. The January 4, 2018 nor’easter storm had a video of water pouring down the stairs from the mezzanine area onto the platforms. The station was closed for a month to drain water from the platforms and to fix any flooding damage to the station. The platforms are also still sometimes wet and water is still leaking down from the ceilings onto the platforms. The T obviously doesn’t give a shit about the state of the line and how their stations look.

    Until at least 2011, the MBTA still planned to close the station after Government Center was renovated. The closure would take place after the renovation of Government Center, which would re-add a long-closed entrance at the west end of the Blue Line platform. On December 28, 2013, the MBTA resumed night and weekend service to Bowdoin station. The change was intended to provide alternative transportation during the three-month closure of the Callahan Tunnel and subsequent two-year closure of Government Center station. This was the first time since 1981 that the MBTA kept the station open during all operating hours. In February 2016, the MBTA announced that Bowdoin would remain open at all times even after Government Center reopened on March 21. Daily ridership at the station increased from 1,526 in 2013 to 2,127 in FY 2019. When the T introduced six-car trains on the Blue Line in 2008, the aging Bowdoin station was said by the MBTA to not be able to handle the new fleet because after Government’s 2014-2016 renovation, Bowdoin became the only non-accessible metro station on the Blue Line. The station sure looks tired and worn out after more than a century of continuous operation. It needs a serious upgrade, in my opinion everything you mentioned, the head house, the Bowdoin sign on the head house, the fare control area and the map of the line in the fare control area all date back to the late 1960s. Bowdoin was also closed from January 3, 1981 to January 11, 1982 due to budget cuts and since the MBTA was experiencing a serious budget crisis, which resulted in service cuts in the early 1980s. This happened because the station had low ridership and it was in close proximity to Government Center. Bowdoin was briefly closed again from March 3 to April 20, 1982. The station opened along with Scollay Square on March 18, 1916 as part of the East Boston Tunnel. After the early 1980s, it was the only MBTA subway station with limited hours. The eastbound side of the station can only fit four cars and the T originally planned to close the station when six-car trains entered service. But the station was kept open.

    You need to get the book written by Frank Cheney called Boston’s Blue Line Maverick Station is where the trains went from overhead wire to third rain heading to Boston on the other side the trains went from third rail to overhead wire behind the wall at Maverick Station the trolley loop was still there until Maverick Station was rebuild where the escalator is the tunnel on where the trolley’s came in and out of Maverick Station was still there when I was an Inspector at Maverick Station the train starters office was on the inbound track was still there dating from 1924 when the line was open up for rapid transit on the Revere side the tower that control all the moves beyond Maverick Station was there too now to Wood Island Station Wood Island Station was built with a loop for trackless trolley coaches in 1980 the City of Boston building Inspector made the MBTA shut down the loop due to it being unsafe for buses to loop around in 1989 the loop was torn down the MBTA built a loop inside the station for the buses now Suffolk Downs Station in 1976 one side of Suffolk Station burnt down in the early morning before the line open up for train service it was the Revere side that burnt down the fire went from the side and also burn the overhead that when from the Revere side to the Boston side the fire department informed the MBTA to tear it down right away now the new Suffolk Down Station construction started in 1984 Suffolk Down racetrack ran shuttle buses from Orient Heights to the racetrack until the new Suffolk Downs Station open up in 1986 the old Suffolk Downs Station open in April of 1952 it was a single track due to the East Boston line was being build to Wonderland Station it did not become a double track until the line open in 1954 to Wonderland Station it was the only station made of wood in 1951 the MTA replace all the street cars with trackless trolley coaches in 1954 all the trackless trolley coaches were replace with buses back in 1984 there was talks about running the Blue Line right into the airport but that never happen there are blueprints at the MBTA library at the Arborway showing where the train station would have been

    I like government center since it is the newest station being renovated in 2014-2016. I like the all-white appearance in the station and the new emergency exit at the end of the platform on one side. I give government center a b rating on the tier list, for sure. I also like the original tile mosaic that reads “Scollay Under” on the lower Blue Line platform since MBTA crews uncovered three historic 100-year-old tile mosaics while renovating the station first in late April during the first month of the closure and again in late May. The original tile mosaics were restored and put back into the station wall for the reopening of the station on March 21, 2016.

    Boylston is way louder than State Street in my opinion, don’t get me wrong, the screeching on the Government Center curve can be loud at times, I agree with you there for sure. I love the curve between State and Government Center at the end of the Bowdoin-bound platform and before the Wonderland-bound platform. The sharp right-angle turn just after the station as the Green Line turns onto Tremont Street from Boylston Street and the screeching that emits from the train’s wheels and can be so loud that I have to cover my ears at times. The sharp curve before the Orange Line comes into State Forest Hills-bound platform can be also loud at times. This was especially present with the 1200s, but the new 1400s hardly or don’t squeak on any curves, this is due to wheel-mounted absorbers that reduce screeching on curves.

    When Beachmont, Revere Beach and wonderland train stations were first renovated in the early 1990s there were beautiful tiles that decorated the train stations to picking Revere Beach in its Glory Days. When wonderland was rebuilt for some reason all three of these stations tiles were removed and replaced with the ones we see today. Thousands of tiles restored right on the ground in the North lot which is today home to those new condos along Ocean avenue. I want to know what happened to those tiles

    • @RanardCorbeau
      @RanardCorbeau Год назад

      Especially in Beachmont. Tiles be that could be seen were of the old Cyclone, Mouse, Thunderbolt Roller Coaster. Her leash famous painted horses carousel. Bluebeard's Castle. Wonderland and shut Downs racetrack. And a plethora of balloons streamers, clowns, food items, birds, sea shells and many many other tiles that were painted when it finally came time to demolish and rebuild the wonderland Revere Beach and Beachmont train stations and removed. I asked a nation one day what day were going to do with these tiles and you said they were going to be placed into indoor storage to be reused later when the station's would reopen. Just wanted me quite a bit because those stations were just rebuilt and had nothing to do with wonderland train station. But let's take it they're going to return them anyway. This was around the year 2000. India 2006 why I was employed as a contractor to the city Revere I was talking with his now called you know it's a lot area home to shovel new condominium develops along Ocean avenue. There were stacks and stacks and stacks of cinder blocks and construction supplies they had been there for several years before I took a closer look at them. Along The back fence that separated the parking lot from the quadruple track terminus of the blue line I discovered all those tiles that have been removed from the train stations satin long since been replaced which is bland child have to be found anywhere. They continued to sit there for another beautiful years when they were being removed for the parking lot to build the condos. I asked it working with the tiles were. He told me you were going to be destroyed with the rest of the stuff I didn't believe a word, because you're still going to be destroyed their was just throw them haphazardly into a bin they were being placed gingerly and carefully with the more prominent and hand-painted wine individually wrapped in bubble wrap. They were being stolen by the contractor just like the dragons I'll try to Chinatown when The Big dig was at heyday I understand those hand-painted tiles with a minimum $250 a piece. There were approximately 850 that I had counted. Does anybody know where they are.
