For a man armed with a knife, at a distance and who fell to the ground after the first shot, it seems really excessive that they both continued to shoot the man on the ground. Also, they don’t seem to engage with the suspect to deescalate the situation which seems to be a mental health emergency. Excessive use of force and simplistic intervention with no considerations of mental health. Makes me wonder how much training officers receive to deescalate situations involving mental health.
Can someone explain to me what the law and police training says about shooting in situations like this, surely the last 5+ shots were unnecessary? I'm not saying they shouldn't have shot, but the dude did a full faceplant instantly but they kept shooting.
I agree, there were too many shots taken. We have to keep in mind that reportedly four officers discharged their weapons. I tried counting the number of shots with the video running on a slower speed and it appears to be 20+ shots fired. The brain is in "case man," fight/flight mode and it takes a second or two for it to register what it is seeing. So, you'll often see a couple of extra shots discharged. But, in this video, it does appear excessive, especially when the perp appeared to only have a knife and not a gun. As the saying goes, it's "awful, but lawful."
Because "already down suspects" have popped up with a gun and gotten rounds off before. If you think you have to shoot, make certain the recipient doesn't get back up.
It stopped being justified when they continued to shoot a man with a knife who was incapacitated. The first three were justified. The rest are excessive force. Technically, it could be manslaughter. I support the police, but I don't support this.
I’m not a police officer nor am I in law-enforcement but did it really take at least 24 rounds from 5 police officers from very different positions to stop one person walking slowly with a knife? He was down on the ground and they continue to shoot him in the butt and back. Was that really necessary?
Mostly thanks to the police own actions unfortunately. If they hadn't closed the distance with the suspect initially, if the hot head cop to the right didn't run up on the suspect screaming in his face, if they didn't antagonize him to escalate the situation, if even a single cop attempted to use their pepper spray/taser that they all seem to neglect, and once the first couple shots had downed the suspect, had the other officers not shot when it was unnecessary, no one would have needed to be shot in this situation. That logic applies to a lot of these police videos in the last few years.
The first two shots were enough to stop the guy. Why did they have to empty their guns into him while he was already down? If I did that defending my home, they'd charged me with murder.
Investigator asks cops, “why did you shoot him so many times”? They all reply… He was still moving so I shot him again! 🤦♂️investigator…. He wasn’t voluntarily moving, it was the bullets penetrating him making him move.
They literally aren't. Marines would have been court martial'd for this, but civilian police are a "good ol' boys" club with an ocean of lawyers(that you pay for) behind them to ensure that they're not responsible for the consequenses of their actions.
They are, also remember these things. They are in a high stress situation, their adrenaline is high, tunnel vision is narrowed towards the suspect and they have their firearms drawn. In training they have minutes to handle it differently or re-act the training. They don’t for this, This is real life, not training, or a what if situation. Another thing, people forget how many rounds they put down range in these types of situations, yes training can help to an extent, but some things can go very differently than what is planned too. As for how many rounds they fired in your opinion as well as mine it was too many. Yet again, was I in that situation, No. Would I have handled it differently, I don’t know. What would I do differently from what they did? I don’t know? You, I, and others are able to make these choices without worry of it affecting us for the rest of ours lives, they aren’t. This is a video of what happened, not what could have happened or what should have happened. Think of that when you watch these videos.
Dispatcher: Where did you hit him in the head with? Victim: No not on his head but on his hands while he tried to stab me. Dispatcher: I understand.. Where did you hit him?
For saying you didn't want to shoot him 20 times I find it kinda weird that the only thing that stopped you from continuing to fire was your mag running dry.. I'm starting to think these officers only say this because they know they have to sell it for the bodycam.. some of these cops are better actors then half the people in Hollywood these days...
Weird, I would expect them to be perfectly rational and calm in this life or death situation. I can’t believe humans get scared. Good thing you’re here to let them know from your couch.

Makes me wonder how much training officers receive to deescalate situations involving mental health.
excuse me sir could you please put the knife down? look sir were just trying to help. nonono please stay over there sir! thank you.

@@CrimeApex... How so?
I agree, there were too many shots taken. We have to keep in mind that reportedly four officers discharged their weapons. I tried counting the number of shots with the video running on a slower speed and it appears to be 20+ shots fired. The brain is in "case man," fight/flight mode and it takes a second or two for it to register what it is seeing. So, you'll often see a couple of extra shots discharged. But, in this video, it does appear excessive, especially when the perp appeared to only have a knife and not a gun. As the saying goes, it's "awful, but lawful."

True, "How long is the knife?" 🙄 A knife is a knife and won't win in a gunfight against police officers
I’m not a police officer nor am I in law-enforcement but did it really take at least 24 rounds from 5 police officers from very different positions to stop one person walking slowly with a knife? He was down on the ground and they continue to shoot him in the butt and back. Was that really necessary?
Poor guy. How frightening for that worker.
I despise those who use police to end their lives. Police are human beings
The days of an officer making it through his or her career without having to shoot…… are long gone.
Great dispatcher. She knew when to shift her questioning to a way the caller could understand which gave her more information. Well done.

Are Departments not trained to control their gunfire? Officer 5 would've been the only person who passed the exam lol
