I'm from the Boston area and it's great that we are expanding the city but when are we finally going to revamp the T to connect to all parts of the city? We need to expand our subway service now more than building more skyscrapers!
@ not only that but we need an extension to areas of Boston that don’t have a subway connection. Roxbury Mattapan and even extend it out to Everett to where the casino is
Private developers build the skyscrapers, and are looking to make $ on the deal (those new apartments don’t look like low-income housing to me). Transport is a public function and is paid for by State & Federal taxes. Expanding the T (like linking North & South Stations) will cost $billions. Who is going to pay for it?

Its usually due to Logan. Not sure if thats the case here but ik it has happened with other towers in the past. Developer always starts with a really high height and then it gets cut down by the FAA for air traffic reasons
@@notmyname9625Right, I would love for Boston to be as visually striking as New York or San Francisco, but every time I get to the airport in 20 minutes on public transportation, I think, “Okay, I can live with the short towers!” Although I think some of the shrink is also due to people decrying traffic. I don’t remember what the overriding concern was here.
Tallest height was suppose to be 759 which could've been the second Tallest building in Boston. However if the site is close to the airport flight paths or commons/public garden. The height will shorten dramatically.
Hines, the developer bought it from the Boston Redevelopment Authority for $35 million and are expanding the bus terminal by 150%. You could argue the city should have bargained for a higher price/better deal, but it’s not like the MBTA is losing money on any of this.
These aren't mutually exclusive; it's not like the mbta was given the choice to either build some condos or connect the stations. Like bro are you literally stupid? Building this only gave the MBTA some money, a nicer train platform area, and Boston a larger bus station.
Honestly the people fighting against new housing out in the suburbs are the real reason housing in boston is so expensive. The majority of the burden for the whole states housing crisis has been put on boston and its neighboring communities because other towns all fight against housing. As long as we have an abundance of good paying jobs ppl are gonna keep moving here either way and if theres not enough housing created for them then only the rich will be able to afford to live in the city. They didnt have to destroy any older houses or businesses to create this tower so i have no problem with it. If anything it will keep rich ppl from buying up the remaining older housing stock (which is more affordable than newly built) because it gives ppl that might otherwise just buy a tripple decker to tear down into condos the option to just get a fancy condo/apartment in a tower like this instead. The issue of housing affordability is way more complicated than one could ever understand from youtube comments but i suggest looking into it cuz ur getting upset with the wrong things. If you want to point a figure at anyone for the housing issue it should be all the yuppy towns with overly restrictive zoning and crazy karens running their town board meetings. The new section 3a zoning law should help a little but it is probably a little bit too late at this point tbh. Its more likely that our best case scenario is seeing rents level out but they will most likely never go back down to what they were before unless we have a major economic crash of some kind
@@David-mt7tj no not at all. I genuinely dont know how u got that out of what i said. The whole point of the comment was about keeping the city affordable. The simple fact is that we need more affordable housing in both the suburbs and the city but boston builds a lot of affordable housing as it is and the suburbs are a lot more restrictive. It would benefit both the suburbs and the city. There just isnt enough space within city limits to build all the housing needed to meet our demand. Its just supply and demand. If we dont build enough housing it will only keep increasing at the crazy rates it has been but boston alone cant do that. They would have to turn the whole city into manhattan to keep it from becoming only for the uber wealthy like you said. The suburbs are naturally gonna be cheaper anyway because they are further from the job centers in boston but if they dont keep up with their demand for housing as well than they will see the same thing happen too. It is already happening. Doesnt mean there arent areas in the suburbs that also have a demand for high end housing or vice versa with the city and affordable housing. If u want to keep the cost of housing down we need to build more housing here to accomodate for all the ppl who are moving here. That includes all income level whether on high low or medium wages. We should be building housing to match the trends in demand is all im saying. If a lot of rich ppl are trying to move into the area around south station (which they are) and there isnt enough housing there for them they will just buy in another neighborhood which often means buying up our more affordable housing stock in those areas and making it unaffordable
