Top man. Had been struggling with the import to Resolve of the dng files as they were only importing as single files. Had know idea what I was doing wrong until you said about the media tab. Many thanks.
This is fantastic Josh! Great job noticing this and sharing your knowledge! I feel this will help many people out with this setup, wanting that Raw workflow!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I bought this app recently and used it once because it would only convert video. The attached audio file is always 3kb of nothing. Then, the license suddenly went "missing" on its own. In other words, I can no longer convert anything. An email to the creator went completely unanswered. Another $90 down the toilet.
any news on that? the converter was a go to for me, iam right before buying it, was looking for a solution to use the raw files on my windows computer/davinci
@@VELVET462 I can tell you for certain that the audio files, (which were questioned by some reviewers), never processed with the video files. Just a blank file showing as 3kb of data. In all fairness, I was able to process almost 200 files at 3:1 compression and the video quality was very good. It generally did what I needed it to do. So, I was happy enough until my license suddenly went missing. Not a problem, I thought. However, my email for assistance went unanswered. If this app was 10 bucks, I probably wouldn't care. But it's closer to $100. Proceed with caution.
yea i see, its a lot of money .. and something like that shouldn't happen.. I won't buy based on your review, thanks for your information and Sorry for your loss The image quality was actually perfect. It's a shame that when it comes to RAW we're not yet ready to have a reasonable MAC/WINDOWS solution in the medium budget. I'm looking for a solution how I can record CAM+ MIC via STREAMER X in RAW. but I think something like that won't be possible. Unfortunately my color grading skills are limited but I'll probably have to keep working on it, or maybe go with another compressed codec@@gvs376
The problem for me, i can‘t change the iso and the white balance when converting to cinema dng or am i missing something? In Fcpx with prores raw you can change the iso and the white balance of the raw clip. If converted to cinema dng to edit in davinci i can’t change the iso and i can change the white balance (temperature) but only of the color space and not from original raw file. Please correct me if i’m wrong and please share all information you think could help me, as i need to decide if i stay with fcp or switch to davinci (preferred)…
I have used this program on my M1. It works great and was pretty much the only way to convert RAW to DNG. He charges per camera brand and doesn't have one for Panasonic S5. I used to decode on Final Cut PRO and export to ProRes 4444 to Resolve before I discovered this app. For the windows guys or Panasonic S5 users that stumble on this video. ASSIMILATE player pro Studio 9.6 can do this as well plus more (it also works on a MAC). Warning it has a quirky UI but there are a few TUTS on YT. it does convert Panasonic S5 ProRes RAW to DNG. I bought it for that reason. It costs 300 for a permanent license or 200 per year. I don't know of any other program that will convert The Panasonic S5 ProRes RAW to DNG. It works for all camera RAW formats.
yeah, i appreciated ths vid, but I can't get this prog to work on Win11, I load a RAW mov into it and it prompts me to "buy," so i clicked just to see how much it costed, and it errors out every time. and I've extensive experience w Windows, so it's not user error - I've tried on multiple installs and it just doesn't work. ironically i'm glad it crapped out before I was able to spend money on it, but i still can't even find out how much it would ostensibly cost, if I did want it, bc there's no website that I can find, as 'Rozsnyó s.r.o.' is the only info listed under the Microsoft Store info! really frustrating. i'm sure it's a solo operation but a Squarespace website is not a big ask. However, I will say that a cursory ggl'ing of Rozsnyo brings up a town in Slovakia, which borders Ukraine, so I'm sympathetic to the dev, they are most likely located in that general area and it must be harrowing there now, to say the least. fortunately, the Assimilate Play Pro Studio prog you mentioned seems to work in demo, and I got a code on Atomos's site to bring the $300 permanent license cost down to $100, which is not tied to me at all, so here it is for anyone else, seems like a no-brainer if you're gonna use the prog, since it's $39/month if you don't buy permanent license. the code is: PlayProStudio4U gl everyone, and thank you for the vid, Josh, it really does give you some stunning quality (I'm on the FX3, but getting similarly better results once I apply a simple grade). if you don't mind me asking, how much does this program cost?
@@ListenHereOldMan The program Raw Converter was $75 per camera brand when I used it. He didn't have one for Panasonic S5. I bought two one for Sony and the other for Sigma FP. I am pretty sure it only works on a MAC unless he updated it to PC. The best part about Assimilate Play Pro Studio other than just working is I am not tied to MAC or Adobe any more.
@@stevejones01 well i certainly couldn't get to the "buy" page but there's an exe for windows that opens, it just doesn't allow any functionality, that i can tell, before you purchase it... so it's confusing. ultimately i figured if Atomos is offering a Play Pro coupon it's likely the best I'll find, i'm not even aware of any other programs that do it aside from this other one, and Play Pro seems to work fine in demo mode. i'd wince a bit for 300 or *shudder* a subscription fee, but at 100 it's worth it. just wish they'd support it natively in Davinci, i have a feeling the lack of support has something to do w Atomos.
@@Norain1992 S5 wasn't supported at the time I bought my other licenses. I wish I would have discovered Player Pro sooner. It's a lot more than a RAW to CDNG converter app.
The problem is this converter does not work with all cameras. It's astounding to me how difficult this process is and why Apple, Sony, BlackMagic or anyone else has not solved it/capitalized on the opportunity to allow Raw conversions on something as simple as OTHER Sony cameras.
I was confused by all the files that are created and dont know how to handle them. Is it normal? Cant I just merge them into one? I find it very stressing if you need to move a clip later. I dont use 2-3 clips per project but 20-30 different thats why I ask
Cinema DNG is a much older and much more widely compatible RAW format. Nearly any NLE can use CinemaDNG, while ProRes RAW rather infamously doesn't work with Resolve, or any NLE other than Final Cut or Premiere, really. It's one of the most flexible RAW formats out there, at the cost of typically having massive file sizes.
I think it depends on your machine. I made this video on the MacBook Pro m1. It cut together pretty smoothly until I applied noise cancellation to the clip.

What codec do you prefer? ProRes Raw or H.264?
Does Raw converter work with PC's?
Do you feel like cinema dng is more heavy on the computer than braw or prores raw?
