THE ANIMATION STYLE IS SO COOL LOOKING AND THE VOICE ACTING AND THE CHARACTERS I JUST AAAGH I will now proceed to analyze this frame by frame and give my interpretation of the story because i fuckin love this So at first, red and blue are in love obviously and it’s chill. I did notice that blue’s favourite song (Notion) is a softer version with piano and ukelele instead of the version that plays at the end. I’m not entirely sure what that means, but it’s interesting. Blue and red move to the city! Red is excited, but Blue seems… off. I suspect that Blue is depressed and is having a hard time finding joy in the situation. Something happened after that moment. At first I thought Blue had just broken up with Red, but at 3:28 (absolutely wonderful scene btw) we see Blue standing on the other side of a burning room, lighter in hand. From what I can gather, Blue set fire to the house in order to commit s*icide. I don’t know if the fire was meant to reach Red and kill him too, but I don’t think so. After Blue’s death, Red moves in with a new roommate, who I’ll call Orange. Orange is looking out for Red and trying to help him get a job, though Red is having major trouble keeping jobs and doing a good job with them due to his trauma, constantly dissociating after picking up the phone, which I think is alluding to Red feeling likes he is back in that moment with Blue, on the phone with the police, since I assume he called the cops after the accident. Red brings the photo of him and Blue everywhere, maybe for memories or comfort. Orange seems to know about Red’s trauma, she was probably an old friend of theirs. Red is seeing a therapist to help him out with his trauma and his struggles finding a job. The therapist tries to get Red to talk about the moment where Blue died, but Red says he isn’t ready, since he is still grieving. I’m not sure if this takes place at another session with the therapist, but im assuming it is since Red appears ready to talk about it now. Red, most likely as a result of what happened, experiences sleep paralysis, where a creature resembling blue watches him and almost grabs him, but he falls back asleep before this can happen. Next day, Red talks to his therapist again, who advises him to stop isolating himself and become closer with new people, namely Orange. Red goes to Blue’s grave to mourn. He leaves the photo he usually takes with him everywhere there, which I assume represents him starting to move on. He scrolls through pictures of Blue, before coming across a photo of Orange and shutting his phone off. I believe this is him reminiscing one last time. In the car, Red asks Orange to play some music. She plays Blue’s favourite song, but this time, it’s a lot happier and upbeat. A gust of wind blows the photo of Red and Blue away. This I think represents Red moving on fully, letting go of painful memories and accepting blues death. Red’s color then changes to Green. I think this represents him becoming a healthier, happier person as a result of moving on. Green gives his job another shot, almost dissociating again, but he manages to pull himself back to reality. Overall this short film was so awesome, a beautiful representation of loss and recovering from grief. My only complaint is the pacing was a bit wonky, but otherwise, perfect!!
