Massive fire near Southpark Mall in Charlotte

- Officials are responding to a large fire in the SouthPark Mall area of south Charlotte Thursday.
The Charlotte Fire Department is responding to the blaze along Liberty Row Drive, not far from SouthPark Towers.
WCNC Charlotte crews could see large smoke clouds and fire rising into the area from the area of Barclay Downs Drive and Fairview Road. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking people to avoid the SouthPark area so their crews can respond to the fire efficiently. Drivers are being asked by CMPD to avoid Liberty Drive, Fairview Road, Assembly Street, Barclay Downs Drive and Parkk South Drive until all flames are contained.

WCNC Charlotte crews arrived on the scene and saw the aggressive flames destroying the wooden structure, causing beams to collapse.
The cloud of smoke from the fire is so thick it's registering on the radar. In fact, a Public Safety Alert went out to smartphones in the area that said "CFD is battling a large fire in SouthPark, do not call 911 unless you have an emergency."
No word on what caused the fire.

Buildings of this size should be built of brick, cement and steel.
Exactly! I lived across the street and it was the only complex that was built with brick, cement and steel. As soon as they said that that’s when I made the decision to move there.

I have suffered a house fire I mean it's nothing compared to this.But fire can spread very very fast.And the smoke can be so thick.Sorry to hear about two men being lost to the fire.May they 🙏.
Must be all wood construction, its criminal to build something this large out of all wood

Wood construction is fine , but not in such a large building !
Yea, its becoming VERY popular because of the cost advantage, its criminal, as you can see, when it goes with all that resin in the "engineered" wooden support structures, it burns quickly

PIN ME! EXPLANATION: so these men were building a luxury apartment, when they put the insulation in it caught fire. Many people evacuated and/or were saved. But many claim people were still in there, in counting (2) or more people are believed to be in there. This was a huge 5 alarm fire near the South Park mall. The dark black smoke was very bad for the air, the air quality went down. This is a tragic site. Please pray for those who are believed to be in the building and for their family.
