I played a whole lot of these guitars and the more expensive electromatics. And ended up with one of the cheapest models. The guitar with the p90s. It sounded amazing and still does. The sound of our band is build around that guitar.
Their p90s and staple p90s are amazing in these new Indonesian Gretsch guitars. The BT25 humbucker on mine, not so much. Best 300 bucks I’ve spent on guitars.
I just tried the one with the P-90s as well. Really spoke to me. Great voice unplugged. Stuff I hadn't played in a couple years came right out. Only draw back was the fret work. A couple of them up around 12-15 were poking out on the edge. The P-90 is the way to go tho.
I just purchased one of these a few months ago. I noticed in one of your comments that you might be considering an upgrade series for this guitar. I would love to see that series! Thank you for your great reviews!
I watch way too much youtube gear related videos and I've never left a comment before, but have to say you are the first person I've seen actually play cool sounding stuff when you're demoing.
Another excellent review! You really dig into the guitars and provide one of the most comprehensive reviews I’ve found. Thank you! I just started playing guitar this year. I started on an acoustic, and received massive amounts of peer pressure from a friend to get a guitar. I was looking at an Epiphone Les Paul, that is until I picked up a Gretsch Electromatic G5230T. I love that guitar, but the more I play, and the more I watch reviews, I’m seriously considering adding a Gretsch hollow body or center block to my collection. I love the sound. Thank you again. Keep up the awesome reviews!
Cheers man, so pleased to hear you have taken up playing hope it's going well... and the G5230T is a fabulous guitar did you see my review? Sounds like you are also getting at touch of the accompanying GAS and starting to think about adding another one... Enjoy the journey! :)
@@theguitaristas I did see your review! It's one of the things I did before I pulled the trigger. I've got a bad case of GAS. I think I'm about ready to grab up a used Taylor 314ce I found at a local guitar shop, but a Gretsch hollow-body is definitely on my mind more than I care to admit.
Just picked up a G2420 less than 24 Hrs. ago and so far love it. Same color as yours walnut. This is some kind of a oddball guitar in the fact the inlays are a bit different and the fingerboard is actually rosewood. So far I really like it. Great Video as usual.
Sounded great right from the intro … got to accept Gretsch got its own thing going on…. and with a simple drive pedal and the tone control there’s a huge range … with most guitars the go to is the bridge for the cut through and lead … have found with the Gretsch it’s the neck dialed in for me can be huge … luv the slim body …great demo … more
Thanks for this in-depth review and honest opinions. I was considering getting my first hollow-body and your great run-down of these great models convinced me to give it a try. And WOW! i own a Gibson SG and Epiphone LP, both worth more than this Streamliner but WOW! Gretsch is putting some form of secret sauce in these things because it is better in every way than my (double the price) SG. Better balance, lower action (from the factory!) with no fret buzz, better feeling fretboard, better neck, better tone from pickups, and stays in tune better! My SG isn't terrible but the G does tend to try to slip more than the other strings. Not so with this baby. I can't recommend this guitar enough, it's a real sleeper. I even tried a friend's Silver Sky for comparison and though it felt slightly better, this streamliner was VERY close for my tastes. Gretsch really deserves more love I believe. Great video and thanks a ton for turning me onto Gretsch Streamliner!
Great review! My first Gretsch (a few years ago) was this same guitar and I still love it. I like it so much that I bought a G2622T-P90 and that one is really special. Overall as good as this review with the fantastic P-90 pickups and the Bigsby! And if you want to mod it, don't forget that Epiphone and this Greatch have import (or metric) hardware that is not the same as Gibson (US spec). And be warned, they are so good that once you buy a Gretsch you want more, I'm up to 4!
I bought one of these (a left-handed one with the 'single barrel stain' finish) about 6 months ago. This review is spot on. The guitar has had all the money spent where it counts in terms of design and construction and, whilst time and money has obviously been saved in a few places, it's all very cleverly hidden away. You won't find a single defect in the finish, even the f-hole edges (often rough on cheaper semis) are top notch. As one of 2 'main guitars', it's been pretty heavily used.. played it just about every day since I got it and it's still asking to be picked up. Playing it is never a chore. Sound wise, it's not a guitar you can just plug into anything and play anything and it will sound amazing, but played a certain way and with certain settings it's punches way above it's weight. Lot's of ring and sustain in open positions when plugged in, great with drive (as the reviewer mentioned) - not so good with intonation and playing up the neck with an ever so slight tendency to choke on bends (in my hands anyway). This is a shame because, with the right gear/amp sims, it's surprising good at smooth, compressed LP style lead tones on the neck pickup too (think Sweet Child o' Mine). The laurel fingerboard looks great but feels a little 'dry' - again occasionally working against you for string bending. All in all, I'd say it works great as a second guitar, but maybe not as a primary workhorse unless you've got quite a narrow range of tones you want to achieve.
Excellent! I like the way you think ;) Love that you try different bridges and tailpieces, just the usual things we freaks like to think about as soon as we get a cheap but good guitar in our hot little mitts. Cheers my friend.
You know, I got my dads hands. They came later in life than I expected. I played guitar for years as a teenager up to my mid to late 20s. Life took over and guitar came second. Late thirties now and I felt like my paws couldn't make it happen on a guitar anymore. Seeing your paws which resemble my own give me hope. Thanks man. This was a really good review video.
Cheers Matt, well I can do it with my stubby fingers anyone can! 😆 Anyway nice one mate glad to hear you are another born again Guitarista... there's loads of us here myself included! 😎👍
Just discovered your channel because i`m considering this Gretsch model as my first electric guitar and you get a new suscriber! i really appreciate the huge amount of info i get from your review , even for somebody like me (with no electric guitar background at all) is very useful and easy to understand so thank you very much for your help. i would definitely give a try to this model, seems like could be a good option to me.
I got here early for once. Thank you for another fantastic video! I'll never understand why these manufacturers cheap out on potentiometers. With he volumes they must be working in they could surely get decent deals. I'd rather spend an extra $25 to have CTS pots that work and don't need replacing than having to mod it myself; especially in a semi-hollow or hollowbody. Fantastic playing and excellent review as always!
I DO get your point on that. However; YOU might be willing to pay an extra $25 for upgraded aftermarket pots and wiring, BUT they’re going to charge an extra $100 or even more for the same ones you’d pay $25 for if they come already installed. You can bet on that. They have profit margins they have to reach. I’d rather them keep the overall costs down and let us do what mods we prefer or can afford on them myself. I have a G2627T (the 3 humbuckers model). I kept the pickups because I liked them even though they’re not necessarily ‘that great Gretsch sound’ you get with filtertrons, upgraded the wiring harness, added a Tusq nut, roller bridge, better spring for the Bigsby, Kluson locking tuners and upgraded the knobs to the nickel ‘G’ knobs, added upgrade switch tips and now for just under $700 USD, I have an absolutely killer looking, professional grade, giggable instrument that’s every bit as nice playing/looking as my Gibson ES 339 that cost almost $1500 more and I’m not afraid to leave the house with it. Just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary and all that, yada, yada, yada.
Great show, my friend! Was at my local guitar shop and this Gretsch g2622 Forge Glow just stood out... Picked it up and sooo light! The neck felt excellent! I liked your review of it! Thanks for the review!
Great video man, and very cool to actually see inside one of these. Your videos always inspire me to plug in the old loop pedal and have a play after I watch them! Will look forward to the next one, all the best!
Just purchased this Guitar for my son for Christmas. The one we got for him came with the P90’s. Paid an extra $50 dollars, but well worth it. Sounds great. Classic Gretsch sound with some nice bite. Great video as also Colin!
@@theguitaristas I put on some acrylics ones from a dead Tokai. Really helped with all of the background overtones. Ideally, I would have replaced the bridge, but Gretsch are fuckers for making everything non-standard sizes, so finding parts is a bit of a mare.
I have one but it has a P90 pickup for the neck pickup....and wow, the range of tones! I can use the bridge for clear, jazzy sounds (though, they aren't the perfect jazz tone) or I can get a nice, chunky rock tone using both pickups...or just use the P90 and it like.....well, it's like when you drive a car that is a honest sports car and has a racing mode: you hit that mode button, thinking nothing will really change...and it's like the car WANTS to be a race car! If you run just the P90 and crank the gain, it's almost magical...it wants to be a metal/punk/guitar! The natural feedback is awesome, the sound can still be crisp if you want...you will be doing pinch harmonics on accident, at first...then you're throwing them in wherever because you can now! It's a blast of a guitar!
Great review, I already own the G2622 (left handed) but was really interested in the bridge upgrades,, I would love to know what jam track you were playing with.
Another excellent review on this Gretsch model! I get confused why some people expect a 1500 dollar quality guitar for 400! Just my opinion - play as many cheap and expensive guitars you can and have fun! Second opinion - have a great amp and find the real tones in any guitar.
Cheers man, I agree... it's as much fun as anything else I've played this year. I will now turn this one into an opportunity and throw a few more $$$ at it and make it fabulous!
Another awesome video Colin. Thanks. I’ve bought 3 Gretsch this year. The build quality, fit and finish has been excellent. Each circa $1,000 Australian. But vastly superior to a $5500 Gibson LP I looked at recently. I’ve also bought a good number of epiphones the past 6 months which I am really enjoying and the quality fit and finish is significantly better to those as well. I also feel the electronics need an upgrade though, but does numb the experience a little. Not as dynamic as the Epiphones. I felt the pickups were also a bit dull. But they’re all pretty colours with gold hardware and Bigsbys!😂
I have a G2604T and it's advertised as having a "chambered center block". That's probably what the center block in your Gretsch is. The authenticity and vibe of my Gretsch is there. It feels good in the hand, and has a slinky feel. Now if I could just get the tuning stability sorted out... For what I paid for it new-in-box; $349 (on a half off sale), I can't really complain.
Hi Colin...quite new follower here, from Italy. I got this Gretsch as 2019 Xmas present from my parents. Got hyped and in love at beginning but after a little while it just got off my radars (as I was building/upgrading other guitars). Today Ive spent prob 3hr straight and....I've completely forgotten how good it was. Like very. I remembered upgrading tuners and installing an additional strap button to avoid its uncomfortable neckdive (right at center of the heel). I'll start again taking care of it and lookin forward to play it even more! What would the tailpiece and the saddlebridge will improve?tone or playing (or both)? Is it worthy to swap the nut with other materials? What wil change in terms of tone? Thank you and love your honesty, stressless reviews.
Cheers Tom, glad you found us thanks for support! 😎👍 I think changing the tailpiece and bridge for better quality will definitely alter the tone... but can't really say if it will be for the better or worthwhile. But it's good to have some spare parts kicking around and maybe use them on another guitar if they don't work well on the Gretsch eh?? Have fun!
I had one of these a couple years ago. Mine was a good player and i liked it ,but sold it due to a purchase of a Pelham blue Epiphone 339 w/P-90's that i still have. Man, i have too many guitars, and not enough time in a day! LOL , love this stuff! As Always, a great real word no BS review. You keep making videos, I'll keep watching! Cheers
Cheers Steve, I shall keep making films as long as there are new guitars to play around with!... I do need to have a bit of a sell-off next year though, I'm still not very good at that part! :)
Earlier this year I got myself a g2420 because basically I was going through a hard time in life and always wanted a decent hollow body. I'd never considered Gretsch because I didn't know they did budget instruments, although I have some top level Gibsons I didn't want to spend that much. Gretsch must be selling at very low or zero profit to get ahead of Squier and Epiphone because I would expect mine to be two or three times the price for the quality of it. Well done Gretsch, thanks for another awesome video. They always cheer me up dude👍🏻
Cheers man, I hear you... like you I've discovered that these affordable guitars can give you that buzz and lift your mood in exactly the same way as the high dollar versions. Thanks for comment and support as always... digging the bike in your thumbnail btw! :)
Your comments echo mine. There are much worse ways we could be getting through difficult times. I’ve bought 12 affordable guitars in 4 months myself 🤦♂️. Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. Hang in there 😉.
@@davidharding200 Yes, and whilst our little 'habit' is perhaps getting a bit out of hand now is not the time to worry about little things like that! 🤣
One thing I love about Gretsch is that it’s just Gretsch, yes they have different model “tiers”, but it’s all under the same name, same headstock. There’s just a simplicity there that I love. This isn’t me knocking on Squier and Epiphone, because in this day and age they make some bloody marvellous instruments and I’m thankful that I get to play both of them, however there is still a pull to having a Les Paul that says Gibson up top.
Cheers for this review Colin, nicely presented with just enough detail certainly for what I want to know about these affordable Gretsch guitars. Love the early Harrison sound you managed to get out of it. Definitely worth upgraded parts all round, an absolute belt'a.
I just picked up the gretsch g2627t gold finish three pickups and a bigsby trem. I am in love with how it wants to rock with the drive on. Thanks for the killer review Collin. Cheers!
I have never really been that interested in Gretsch but today my girlfriend and I went to Guitar Center. I picked up a Fender Strat and it was nice and all, then I saw this... I picked it up and I don't know what it is man, but I absolutely fell in love with it. She loved how happy I was playing it and is now set on it being my Christmas present. Lol ahhh, I hope.
*Great intro riff!!* Sounded really good!! Those clean tones weren't bad at all. I get replacing the electronics, but for the price it's a stellar guitar. Thanks for review, sir. 🍻🎸
I wish the Loopers were around when i first picked up a Guitar. I was always pestering my Dad to come and jam but he wasn't as convenient as a Loop station. (RIP Dad) It would have done my rhythm playing wonders. Instead it's taken 40 odd years. I would suggest that a Looper station of some sort be the first bit of gear a beginner should invest in. These kids are so lucky to have all this gear to help accelerate their learning. Eh up Colin 🤟
Hi great video. When does Rivals Part 2 out? Looking for 335 or equivalent. Also the stop tailpiece you tried and fitted, where did you source that please? Want to change on my Gretsch G5220. Love the channel 👍🏼
Cheers Jason, I've already got the Squier CVStarcaster in and lined up for review soon, so one more needed and we'll be doing part 2... it may be one of these Ibanez AS's or a Guild whichever I get my hands on first! 😆👍
It took me a while to decide which budget ES335 type guitar to buy. I owned an Epiphone Wildkat semi hollow guitar years ago. I got rid of it because the neck was very thick and tired my hands out quickly. So I tried the Epiphone, the Ibanez Artcore and then the Gretsch G2622 and my search ended when I played the Gretsch. Sounds great, looks great, nice neck. I've changed the tuners because I wanted nicer, locking tuners and that's it. It sounds good clean but turn on the dirt and it howls fantastic
Very Cool Demo/Review Thankyou. Have a G5215 and a G5248T and will be getting a Gretsch Full HollowBody in Future. Interesting how this 'Centre Block' is more an inner frame, allowing more Hollowbody characteristics. Great Sounds as always. Cheers
This is a lovely guitar, very nice review! I have the 2020 model in Ocn Tq. Do you the truss rod alan key dimensions? I am not able to find it anywhere
Congrats on 10k subs ! well deserved mate. Im sure your already aware as a big SG fan but the new Epiphone 1961 Les Paul looks incredible and would love to see you do a review
Cheers Callum, your support getting me here is really appreciated! Yes I am eyeing that 61 SG up... I decided they are asking way too much for it but I’m not sure how long I will be able to resist.... 😜
No experience with Gretsch, but they are sweet looking instruments. Just wondering... with the angle of the headstock, are they perhaps prone to breakages like Gibson?
Just bought one of these on the strength of your review ! That makes 2 guitars and an amp ! You should get commission but I bought them all second hand ! £250 for a minter including a case ! And yep you are right again Col, this is a great guitar ! So light, so playable and loves a bit of gain - it absolutely nails I wanna be your dog !! Cheers Col !
I bought a G2622 just recently. It has the BT-3S humbuckers and the Push-Pull Master Volume. The fret ends weren't 'bad' but they did need a little attention. I rounded them all off to remove the 'catchiness' I had bought it with the intention of trying flat-wound strings for practising my Fake Jazz chords. Encourage by learning of the weight-relieved 'trestle' centre block. I nearly Didn't though cos it does have quite a nice rock/blues sound with regular 10-46 rounds, with it's own character as it is. I do have a couple of 335 style guitars already though, one of them a real one, so I went ahead and stuck on a set of D'Addario ECG24 Chromes. It does do a fair emulation of a Jazz guitar, Not as Pukka as an Ibanez AF125 but none too shabby either. So the Flats can stay on meanwhile. If I get bored with them I can always go back, it was just a tiny Loosening of the truss rod and a bit of intonation adjustment to get the flats to work on it. That's right ! The Flats had LESS tension than the rounds ... go figure. 🙄
What a lovely looking guitar. I think it sounds good as it is, will we get to see the upgrade ? incidentally have you or would you review an Ibanez semi acoustic, would be interested as I have the AF75, thanks Colin.
I ran across one of these at a store a few years ago and thought these were pretty cool. Thanks so much for swapping the tailpiece, that was one thing that put me off and knowing that you can also swap the bridge is also very cool. I've always loved this shape along with the Hofner verithin. Just curious, have you looked into any of the Peerless guitars or Japanese brands like Archtop Tribute for 335 comparison? Thanks for the video. Greetings from Tokyo...
Could not agree with you more 😎👍 Gretsch has the best bang for the money without losing tone or playability in my opinion. Have found that while in the middle position on the pup selector, with volume and tone set to taste...if you turn the neck volume down just a touch, the tone changes for a killer rock tone😉😎👍 Tru-Arc make some cool bridges for my G5410T hollow-body, pinned floating bridge, that may find it's way to me...however that's all I would consider to hear any difference. It definitely doesn't need it, but looks cool😉 Gold hardware would look cool as well on it as well...but again doesn't need it.😎👍 On this guitar, that by the way am glad you're keeping, the "V" stop bar is cool looking. Not sure how a top wrap would be functional...? Could turn it around so that the "V" is pointing towards the headstock...? Anyway...truly entertaining and informative video...as usual😎👍 Sounds are VERY useable. Looks are killer😎👍 361.00...? 👍👍👍😎👍 By the way...Great amp👍😎 Thanks Again😎👍 😎👍❤🖖 Love Brother
Cheers man, that's what I love about this guitar it does look really cool... for me the jury's still out on the V tailpiece though... I may swap that and maybe get some tonal improvements as its a bit on the heavy side. We will see and we will have fun finding out! Have a great weekend! :)
I BOUGHT MY FIRST GRETSCH STREAMLINER FROM AMAZON LEFT HANDED I LOVE IT I HAVE NINE GUITARS AND THE GRETSCH IS MY FAVORITE ARE YOU ENGLISH I LOVE THAT ACCENT SO COOL IM FROM NEW YORK CITY
Thanks for the video, I already own a Gretsch Jet & wanted a semi acoustic, the effects of long lockdown, went back to playing guitar after almost 30 years. I was looking at a few guitars, but your straightforward, video told me all I needed to know about Gretsch 2622, tho of the available colours I was sold on Walnut stain, or is it a dark cherry? great work ,thanks again
Loved every bit of this. I’m not a player. Chose a green one with the bigsby arm. But now I’m reading a lot about that one not good at keeping tuned. Is that true? Appreciate your help.
Don't worry about it Syed it should stay in tune fine as long as you don't use it for dive-bombs! 😆... bigsbys have been around for ages and work fine but if you do have any problems there will be ways to sort it out.
Good review as always. I've had a hankering for a Gretsch for some time and this one is definetely on the list but it'll have to wait a bit as I bought two Jet Guitars this month, the JS300 and JT350. Unbelievably good guitar at an amazing price, I'd be curious to hear what you think of them.
These videos have been really helpful! Thank you very much! If you had to pick a guitar to play rhythm guitar in a band (60's sound), which would it be between Gretsch and Epiphone Casino, please? Thanks in advance!!!
Hey thanks for support!... the answer if you are playing in a band on stage has to be the Gretsch as it will be a lot easier to control and probably more versatile. But I am a massive Casino fan!
Hi great review as usual, I own a Gretsch G2622 with Bigsby, its the metalic gun metal blue , bought it because as you said about the Epiphone les paul Gold top " Coz its nice" ha!, it would be brilliant to see the mods you are talking about, the only thing that disappointed me after a while was the pots as you pointed out, hope you follow through with upgraded electronics review, but all said and done sounds amazing , lovley action , just wants to be played. cheers for another evenings entertainment
Very nice review...I enjoy almost all the guitars you're collecting...I think yours videos are very interesting and very detailed... I wondering what would you prefer in term of feeling and sound between this g2622 and the Epi es335 insp. by Gibson. Hope to see your opinion...thanks a lot! Keep on rock!
Thanks for kind words and support! 😎👍 I think I prefer the Gretsch… it is more my style I think and I will work on it to make it sound superb so watch out for the upgrade series!
Colin, at the Gretsch website they show a pic of the centerblock. It does start out as a plank like the other brands but Gretsch chambers it and cuts much of it away to trim weight. It is still a full-size centerblock but much of the middle has been cut away.
so do these streamliner series pots use a regular height or are they taller potentiometers? I find the Gretsch streamliners to be great builds but the electronics are really so-so. Being a hollow body its hard to find if 500k pots that need to be replaced are both mini to fit the hole but also taller to clear any curve of the body top. Founds a g2420 for less than 300 and really excited to switch out electronics and pickups
Nice demo and playing. Haven't ever played a Gretsch or even a 335. This is just what I needed, now I want another guitar in addition to the Les Paul Special with P90's (I just cannot like the Epiphone headstock). I did pick up a Squire Classic Vibe 60's Bass (have not opened it yet, waiting for Christmas). Merry Christmas to you and thanks for sharing, love these demos!
Country Stoner... Had bought a gretch jr. few months ago and it had unbelievable feel, it was so lightweight to pick up sounded fantastic. What two things prompted me to take it back was the bigsby and the instability of tuning, (maybe I could have worked hard and created more stable unit by spending money and time). And also the knobs, one volume pot cut out entirely and the guitar would stop producing any sound abruptly, and also the sweep on the controls was zero it was on or off. But I still really love that guitar and would like to get a hard ail version It felt wonderful, and sounded great, and the fit and finish was perfect. Now that I'm writing this I probably should have kept it! Great video, thanks!
Another interesting review, keep up the good work Colin! Love it if you would cast your eye over some of the guitars in the Cort range, maybe the CR250 (yeah I know, another Les Paul knock off) or maybe the G290 Fat with dual humbuckers? Looking forward to the next video, happy holidays. 🤟
I had one just like that for a bit... I don't know why but it wasn't well suited for slide guitar. My roommate was jealous so I traded him the guitar for a truck. Then the transmission locked up. It's ok now.... the roomie is GONE, the guitar is GONE, but the truck works now and I am happy. That Casino filled the void in my life...JJN Les Paul keeps me honest and the '59 helps me stay humble.
There’s one of these in my local area going for £250. Ad states in excellent condition and professionally set up. What’s your thoughts on the price? Great video btw 👍
Do you have any experience with the g2655? I'm torn between it and this model. I prefer the upper fret access of the 2655 but it has a strap button on the back of the neck heel like an SG which makes me very skeptical about how it will balance on a strap.
Does it neck dive? I have the Electromatic G5622 version which if I use my usual cheap nylon webbing strap the neck drops to 5 o'clock. Shortening the strap helps a lot which may explain why so many guitarists in the 60's had their chins almost on the body. Apart from that really nice. The only differences that I am aware of are different pickups, knobs, fretboard inlays, nut, treble bleed and pickguard.
I picked one up in Gunsmoke blue, than slapped in a set of Seymour’s Psyclone Filtertrons, then swapped in chrome arrow knobs, and silver pick guard and woo whoo!
As I keep playing this guitar, I love it more and more. Waiting for the upgrades. I have adjusted pickups and poles and improved clarity. Also bone nut. Mods on the affordable side yet. Gives us ideas
@@theguitaristas that's what that guitar needs...the P-90 SOUND! the aluminum bridge parts too! Time to get rid of that bodanker! (slang for boat anchor) that can go on the cool wall. By the way....I look forward to your end of the year "COOL WALL" and I hope you will also do a cool wall of amplifiers...thanks for everything. DEVILBOB@ Uncle Dad's Garage
Hello mate!!, question, I also bought this guitar and the front pick up pot seems not to work at all like you experienced. What upgrade pots can I get that you know of that will work better??, regards Mike in s.c. USA.
Great video as always. 🙂👍🏼 I just bought version with Bigsby (uploaded video on my channel yesterday). Great value for the money. Only negativ thing that I found was tuning stability. So already changed tuners, nut, bridge and put Reverend soft spring..and now it is great, holds tuning great and bigsby feels smooth and soft. Also, I really dig sound of pickups. Have a nice day and keep good working. Cheers. ✌🏼🙂
I think they call it a 'chambered centre block.' I think it anchors the tailpiece and bridge, as you said, but it also prevents the top from vibrating so much. It sounded quieter than a thinline hollowbody like a Casino or an ES330. So I guess the idea is: the feedback resistance of a centre-block guitar without the unnecessary weight.
I thought I'd missed this but having just checked the Gretsch specs they do seems to refer to it just as 'Streamliner Centre Block'...no mention of chambered that I could see, and they go on to say... 'A lightweight spruce center block runs the length of the body, reinforcing the top while eliminating undesired feedback for volume-friendly performance on rocking stages.' The mystery deepens!! :)
I have had one of these for a little while, almost a year now maybe? My main complaint, and it's pretty much the only one. The way the wiring is done, if you drop the master volume AT ALL, the tone control becomes a volume, and it will take the output to zero by the time you get 2/3rds down on the adjustment. Maybe just a quirk of Gretsch wiring maybe, but still somewhat annoying. I got a G2217 Junior Jet in dark cherry a few days ago, and it made me dig this one out again. The Junior jet is a flat top with two Broadtrons, a single volume and tone, and a wraparound bridge. I have been tempted to put an amp jewel in the master volume hole, drill out another hole back near the other three, and make it standard four knob "Les Paul" style wiring. Overall, awesome guitar for the price range, and light as a feather.
Great video - I recently picked up a new G2622TG-P90 (soapbar type) limited edition in Gunmetal. I absolutely love it! (I like it more than my Electromatic G5230T!)
I played a whole lot of these guitars and the more expensive electromatics. And ended up with one of the cheapest models. The guitar with the p90s. It sounded amazing and still does. The sound of our band is build around that guitar.
Cheers Daniel.... P90's rock!
I have the one with the p90s and play it more than my gibson.
Their p90s and staple p90s are amazing in these new Indonesian Gretsch guitars. The BT25 humbucker on mine, not so much. Best 300 bucks I’ve spent on guitars.
I bought one of those as well, I wanted a semihollow, and P90's, and that one fit the bill!
I just tried the one with the P-90s as well. Really spoke to me. Great voice unplugged. Stuff I hadn't played in a couple years came right out. Only draw back was the fret work. A couple of them up around 12-15 were poking out on the edge. The P-90 is the way to go tho.
Wow, that looks like a high end guitar. And the sound isn't to shabby. Another one knocked out of the park Colin, well done.
Cheers man that's appreciated!
I just purchased one of these a few months ago. I noticed in one of your comments that you might be considering an upgrade series for this guitar. I would love to see that series!
Thank you for your great reviews!
👍😎
Colin, the best/worst thing about your reviews is that you make everything sound great!
I’m definitely a glass half full kind of person! 😆👍
I look forward to seeing your planned upgrades.
I watch way too much youtube gear related videos and I've never left a comment before, but have to say you are the first person I've seen actually play cool sounding stuff when you're demoing.
Cheers man that's really appreciated!... I try my best to come up with fresh stuff and sometimes its more successful than others! 😆👍
Mission inspired 👌
Again it is worth waiting for your guitar review. Honesty is always the key. I am very glad to see the channel growing!
Thanks Robert, that's appreciated as always man! :)
Your reviews are very thorough and go really deep into the guitar. I love this style of reviewing. You've got another subscriber!
Cheers Olger, glad you found me thanks for the sub and support! 😎👍
Because of your videos and playing I'm hunting a center block, love the sound you have, bravo Sir and thank you again
Cheers Tim 😎👍
Cheers Gary!
Brother I love your reviews. Thanks for all you do, and the way you do them.
Cheers man that's appreciated! 😎👍
what would be a better buy, the Gretsch G2622 or the Squier Classic Vibe Starcaster
They are quite different ad they are both pretty good so whichever appeals to you is the best answer I could give!
Fantastic playing again as always. Great review. Gretch has never been on my wish list but might need to take a look at this one.
Cheers Lloyd... worth a look at the very least! :)
Haha, Colin makes me think I need loads of different guitars! ;) Sign of a "job well done" ;)
I picked up the exact G2622 that you did a review on the other day. DAMMMMNNNNN!!!!!! I really like it and thank you for doing a very in-depth review.
Great review Colin, loved the jam at the end there too. I'm definitely going to have to try one of these!
Cheers man that’s appreciated! 👍😎
Sounded great right from the intro … got to accept Gretsch got its own thing going on…. and with a simple drive pedal and the tone control there’s a huge range … with most guitars the go to is the bridge for the cut through and lead … have found with the Gretsch it’s the neck dialed in for me can be huge … luv the slim body …great demo … more
Cheers Gerry, yes it’s definitely all useable and I loved it with some drive!
Cheers man, yes don’t know how they do it but Gretsch consistently seem to deliver fantastic bang for buck 😎👍
Cheers Stevie, I am planning going to town on this one and use some of my 'parts supply'... I think it will be worth it! :)
@@theguitaristas Sounds like my kind of fun! Bring us a comparison vid when you're done ;)
Played one yesterday, phenomenal guitar. I don't need more but I loved it. Best of all the ones I tried on the wall.
Thanks man good to see you as always... have a great weekend fella! :)
Thank you for another no nonsense review. I have been searching for a hollow body and didn't even consider the streamliner line. I will now though!
Cheers Dan, worth a look I say! :)
Great video man, and very cool to actually see inside one of these. Your videos always inspire me to plug in the old loop pedal and have a play after I watch them! Will look forward to the next one, all the best!
Cheers man that’s great to hear! 😎👍
Just purchased this Guitar for my son for Christmas. The one we got for him came with the P90’s. Paid an extra $50 dollars, but well worth it. Sounds great. Classic Gretsch sound with some nice bite. Great video as also Colin!
Nice one Derek... the P90's in this sound great he's a lucky boy!
My guitar. I love it now that it has new tuners, saddles and more attractive knobs.
Cool... what saddles did you put on? I think I will swap the bridge out too.
@@theguitaristas - You do a great job making your videos. Looking forward in your next surprise. Cheers Mate...
Absolutely, a good amp works wonders.
I bought a gretsch streamliner left handed from Amazon o man I love it what a great guitar I have nine guitars this one is my favorite
Interesting guitar. I have never really looked at Gretsch. I can't wait for the upgrade videos!!!!!!
Cheers Paul... watch this space! :)
Hi Just curious if you had any suggestions for modifying this guitar pick up wise? Thanks for the great videos
See more recent upgrade video I made with this guitar!
Cheers David, I will upgrade this one I think... have some parts ready and waiting!
Have fun!
I bought one last week and love it!, so what up grade pick ups would you suggest??. Do a video on a up grade ?. Thanks.
Hey George, I am going to try Seymour Duncan Phat Cats in this!… will make a video of the process 😎👍
@@theguitaristas Thank you. Cheap car, nice bike hahah

Aloha and mahalo! Another great video. Is the pickups the same size as a Gibson humbuckers or are they slightly smaller like the filtertron?
Cheers Victor, same as full size buckers.... I measured to be sure as I am going to upgrade!
@@theguitaristas I believe Seymour Duncan make a filtertron that is the same size as a PAF if that's the sound you're looking for.
@@victorbeebe8372 I have some Seymour Duncan Phat Cats ready to fit! 😁
@@theguitaristas That should be good. At least worth checking out.
Just got one and can’t say I’m loving it. If I keep it I’ll definitely be changing the pickups.
What did you go with
Just wanted to say love your content, Chief! Cheers from beautiful North Carolina, USA!
Cheers man that’s appreciated! 😎👍
Cheers Steve! 😎👍
Nice one!! 😎👍👍
I just got this guitar for my boyfriend’s birthday tomorrow!
@@vjc25 He's gonna love it!!! There ARE wonderful women out there! Lol. I hope ya'll have a great birthday together!
*Great intro riff!!* Sounded really good!! Those clean tones weren't bad at all. I get replacing the electronics, but for the price it's a stellar guitar. Thanks for review, sir. 🍻🎸
Cheers man... sure is, just add a bit of gain and it's off!! :)
Agreed… looper is most important practice tool for when Dad not around! 😆👍
Best reviews ever , super in depth! Thanks dude !

Your intros are outstanding and everything else of course
Cheers Matthew! 😎👍
Cheers
Looking forward to see where you go with this one. Good vid brother
Cheers man... nice project this one for my own benefit ultimately as I like this one a lot! 😎👍
This is a lovely guitar, very nice review! I have the 2020 model in Ocn Tq. Do you the truss rod alan key dimensions? I am not able to find it anywhere
I think it will just be the standard fender style one?
Congrats on 10k subs ! well deserved mate. Im sure your already aware as a big SG fan but the new Epiphone 1961 Les Paul looks incredible and would love to see you do a review
Cheers Callum, your support getting me here is really appreciated! Yes I am eyeing that 61 SG up... I decided they are asking way too much for it but I’m not sure how long I will be able to resist.... 😜
@@theguitaristas I’m very much tempted to get one also ! Do you ever play acoustic guitar ?
@@C-DM96 Not really into acoustics at all to be honest... I do have a couple but very rarely play them.

I have been kicking this model around or similar type Gretch's for awhile now. Thanks for yor review.✌️
Cheers Jerry, hope it helped! :)
No experience with Gretsch, but they are sweet looking instruments. Just wondering... with the angle of the headstock, are they perhaps prone to breakages like Gibson?
I don't think its as severe an angle... and they certainly don't seem to be known for it like Gibson! :)
I rounded them all off to remove the 'catchiness'
I had bought it with the intention of trying flat-wound strings for practising my Fake Jazz chords.
Hey Victor, have got my eye on the Ibanez semi to add alongside this one in the comparison series with the es335. Upgrades will follow for sure!
Could not agree with you more 😎👍
Gretsch has the best bang for the money without losing tone or playability in my opinion.
Have found that while in the middle position on the pup selector, with volume and tone set to taste...if you turn the neck volume down just a touch, the tone changes for a killer rock tone😉😎👍
Tru-Arc make some cool bridges for my G5410T hollow-body, pinned floating bridge, that may find it's way to me...however that's all I would consider to hear any difference.
It definitely doesn't need it, but looks cool😉
Gold hardware would look cool as well on it as well...but again doesn't need it.😎👍
On this guitar, that by the way am glad you're keeping, the "V" stop bar is cool looking. Not sure how a top wrap would be functional...?
Could turn it around so that the "V" is pointing towards the headstock...?
Anyway...truly entertaining and informative video...as usual😎👍
Sounds are VERY useable.
Looks are killer😎👍
361.00...?
👍👍👍😎👍
By the way...Great amp👍😎
Thanks Again😎👍

Cheers man, that's what I love about this guitar it does look really cool... for me the jury's still out on the V tailpiece though... I may swap that and maybe get some tonal improvements as its a bit on the heavy side. We will see and we will have fun finding out! Have a great weekend! :)

I was looking at a few guitars, but your straightforward, video told me all I needed to know about Gretsch 2622, tho of the available colours I was sold on Walnut stain, or is it a dark cherry? great work ,thanks again
Cheers Martin, glad it was helpful!... it's walnut stain but it is quite dark reddish :)
Great video sir. That thing is like “extra semi hollow”.

If you had to pick a guitar to play rhythm guitar in a band (60's sound), which would it be between Gretsch and Epiphone Casino, please?

@@theguitaristas can't wait to see your upgrade series, thank you so much!
Great job Colin. Happy Holidays!
Thanks, you too!
Check out the upgrade film I did and find out the answer! 😁👍
Nice one Colin! I agree all of the Gretsch guitars that you have reviewed are great deals and I think one day I will get one. Thanks again.
Cheers Tom 😎👍
Nice demo and playing. Haven't ever played a Gretsch or even a 335. This is just what I needed, now I want another guitar in addition to the Les Paul Special with P90's (I just cannot like the Epiphone headstock). I did pick up a Squire Classic Vibe 60's Bass (have not opened it yet, waiting for Christmas). Merry Christmas to you and thanks for sharing, love these demos!
Cheers Peter that's appreciated... have a great Christmas!
But I still really love that guitar and would like to get a hard ail version
It felt wonderful, and sounded great, and the fit and finish was perfect.
Cheers Matt, I shall definitely get there eventually... too many great guitars to look at!! :)
Another great review mate. all the best!
Cheers man!
There’s one of these in my local area going for £250. Ad states in excellent condition and professionally set up. What’s your thoughts on the price? Great video btw 👍
Cheers... sounds like a good deal! 👍
I have one in silver. Keen to see what you do with it. Thanks for the review.
Great Vid Col. Good value it seems on these guitars
Cheers Dave 😎👍
Do you have any experience with the g2655? I'm torn between it and this model. I prefer the upper fret access of the 2655 but it has a strap button on the back of the neck heel like an SG which makes me very skeptical about how it will balance on a strap.
Sorry no I don’t yet… but I expect we will get to it before long! 😆👍
Harley Benton Bigtone would be an interesting budget review! Love the videos mate
I didn't notice to be honest but then I'm an SG guy and therefore I pretend that's not a real thing! :)
Picked up one today in Maple Glow (a darker sunburst) after trying a total of four. Got the one I bonded with 😊
I picked one up in Gunsmoke blue, than slapped in a set of Seymour’s Psyclone Filtertrons, then swapped in chrome arrow knobs, and silver pick guard and woo whoo!
I should mention mine is the full hollow body blues box with the humpback inlays.
A wee Saturday with a glass of decent plonk and this pleases me. Regards from Ireland
Thanks man, enjoy the rest of your weekend! 😎👍
And to you buddy 🤟🏽
As I keep playing this guitar, I love it more and more. Waiting for the upgrades. I have adjusted pickups and poles and improved clarity. Also bone nut. Mods on the affordable side yet. Gives us ideas
Cheers man... I shall do an upgrade series on this I think!
@@theguitaristas just saw the Epiphone experiment, you can always avoid this for the shake of... :) Good job. Appreciated. Just put a ref on that!
I look forward to seeing the UPGRADES on this one!
It's gonna happen... at last I have found a worthy home for my Seymour Duncan Phat Cats!! :)

Interesting...Looking forward to that😉😎🙁

Hello mate!!, question, I also bought this guitar and the front pick up pot seems not to work at all like you experienced. What upgrade pots can I get that you know of that will work better??, regards Mike in s.c. USA.
Hey Mike, I am planning full wiring and pickup upgrade on this guitar in the not too distant future so watch this space and we will work it out! 😎👍
I just played one of the double jets this afternoon. I was really impressed by it
Cheers John, yes pretty cool guitars... the Malcolm Young natural is very tempting (the cheap version) 😎👍
Great video as always. 🙂👍🏼
I just bought version with Bigsby (uploaded video on my channel yesterday).
Cheers. ✌🏼🙂
Cheers man thanks for the support 😎👍 I shall check that vid out... may pick up (steal 😆) some ideas for when I mod this one!
@@theguitaristas We can only “steal” from you. Your experience and playing is much above mine. 🙂🎸
@@guitarandcamera3392 That's very kind of you ☺... anything you can use of mine you are most welcome to!
You 'think' correctly.
You knew,You're too modest 🤭
@@greenfly1264 I didn't look it up to see if that's exactly what they call it is what I mean. I wasn't trying to be falsely modest.
Nice guitar... did you see I reviewed one a while back? 👍😎
