I have two Y62 s a 2014 ST L and a 2022 Ti fantastic cars on or off road , beautifully smooth and powerful , all independent suspension so it handles well and the big V8 gives it sports car like acceleration, on the open road or towing better fuel efficiency than expected . Huge comfortable interior . A delight to own and drive . Nothing has ever gone wrong mechanically. Great resale value . Strange 12 years after its global launch the car which remains largely unchanged suddenly is getting wide praise …probably because the land cruiser is so expensive and underwhelming.
Hey mate. Great content. Since everyone is complaining about the interior, there are plenty aftermarket options you can get and easily install yourself. Look it up, truly impressive and not very expensive.
I reckon I would have kept the 200, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with the Y62 - I've never been a massive Nissan fan, but were I buying a large wagon, I think that would be my direction - the extra $60k+ buys a lot of fuel!!
I'm actually thinking about selling my Y62. Was looking at a Fuso Canter 4x4. Not a speed machine by any stretch of the imagination, but built for towing, and can go wheeling in it, just need a license upgrade if you need the 6500kg gvm. Congrats on the purchase.
Pretty much the same conclusion for me when I was deciding between the two, main thing for me was internal and overall driveaway cost, but the ultimate deal breaker for me on the LC300 was the fact that Aussie only gets the dirty diesel along with all the restrictions that comes fitted with modern diesel, I've had bad experience with them so I would never buy another diesel new car.
Wow how times have changed, who would have thought hard core 4x4 enthusiasts would have been trying to get away from diesels ten years ago but I can fully understand the reasoning behind it. Only a few years back Toyota dropped the petrol completely in Australia due to dismal sales, as I mentioned the tables have certainly turned. I’ve always loved petrol v8s anyway!
Like modern diesels, modern petrol engines have come a long way in the past 20 years. We have to stop thinking of the tech in the Y62 engine as being similar to an old Aussie V8 because they are a whole generation ahead in efficiency and nowhere near as highly strung as a modern diesel.
A lot of people whinge about the LC200 and LC300 costs. But why does everyone forget to consider re-sale value? The 200 series at the moment are getting nearly all their money back and according to ABC who ran the article Landcruisers are better than having money in the bank. So the point I make is yes while the Cruisers will cost you more they don't in terms of running costs and re-sale value. The diesel vs petrol argument is a separate one but if range matters it has to be diesel IMO. Having said that the Y62 is a great rig if you don't mind filling it up all the time.
The resale of the 62 has increased massively since the 300 seems to be falling short of a lot of ppls hopes and dreams. I’d rather just buy the car that suits me then worry about what I’m going to sell it for in 5-10 years.
I knew in would be the patrol otherwise you would have to change your famous intro to “V6 Power “ It’s a no brainer really, well done and congratulations Steve
Yeah bro y62 You’re going to love it. Congratulations The land cruiser is a nice car but too expensive to buy when you can put that money on to y62 in upgrades both of them are great 4x4sCongratulations to you again love your videos
Welcome to the family mate. Always good banter but really they're all great cars. The family will love the big girl I'm sure and looking forward to the build vids.
Personally I say good choice mate. Firstly the money you saved buying the Y62 can add a lot of mods (Bullbar, Winch, Tyres etc etc). Room wise I was really surprised to see so little in the Landcrusier and the back end doesn't look as long either. Interior, well I like the y62 more due to its shape. The Landcruser dash looks strange where the Patrol looks smooth and more sleek, I also much rather that steering wheel look. Only thing I noticed with the Patrol interior was the material seemed to be bunched up on the doors. External, well I much rather the styling of the Patrol as well. I dont like the bonnet on the Cruiser trying to resemble a muscle car or something. Last note, You should of shown Elenore more lmfao.
Between a 62 and a 200 I’d prolly still pick a 200 ( newer ones ). But between the 62 and 300 the 62 wins hands down for me ( as seen in the video ). I prefer the interior of the 300 but that’s it.
@@Australian4x4Adventures between the y62 and 200 I would still go the Gen 4 Pajero lmfao. The 200 is a damn nice car for sure, I have been in one but haven't been in a 62. I'm really not a fan of the dash on the 300 though. Same with the Gen 4 Pajero, I like the Gen 3 styling kore for the dash.
@@OnCountryWithMick the pajero are cute little wagons just like the 300, useless if you need to use all the seats and carry some gear, great if you don’t 👍
@@jedsute I don't use the 3rd row seats but have. I don't reccoment putting adults in them but kids are fine. None of us are light weights and with everything I am pushing GVM. It does everything I need of it and for a kid sized 4wd it looks to have more room than the 300.
Interesting! The Patrols value is undeniable. Harrop supercharger I hear makes a massive improvement to the drivability of the Patrol. Adds diesel torque to a petrol motor. And the space difference looks big.
I bought a s4y62 in 2018 new. Best car lve ever owned. I'm going to keep it for a long, long time. As soon as you said not much room in the back for the kids seats, I knew instantly you were going for the y62. The best choice mate. You won't regret it. Same colour as mine.

Hahaha, I congratulated you on your 300 purchase last video but secretly hoping you’d join us with our 62s 🤣. Congrats mate, looking forward to your “game changing“ mods 😆
Hi mate, not directly related to this video but you mentioned it quickly.. Dyno tuning.. Would you recommend for a LC79? I've heard too stay away, can cause havoc if you need to claim warranty etc. Just interested to hear your thoughts?? I'd like a bit more power for highway driving and off-road when needed. Just trying to weigh up risk vs. reward?
This is really a long conversation but I’ll give you the really short version because I don’t have time to type that much 😂. In short. Unichip is removable if for any reason you need to, unlike a remap which leaves a permanent mark on the ECU for Toyota to see down the track. For Toyota to void a warrant they have to prove that that item has directly caused the failure. So a tune can’t be blamed for a wheel bearing or something not related. Unichip cover your drive train warranty if it is proven that their product has caused the damaged ( in writing ). Main problem with tuning a 79 is the clutch. It’s pretty much a MUST Do upgrade to upgrade the clutch with the tune Bacause the standard one can’t handle the power. Hopefully this helps. Otherwise call Unichip and tell ‘em I sent ya and though will look after you.
I didn't read the comments at the start of the video so I would be in suspense for what you got, had me on edge till the end. Great buy mate, time to go on more adventures in the 62...well till November. Congratulations Steve, can't wait. Where's George???🤣🤣 He'd have the biggest smile on his dial.
Good vide. Wont hate you f or the choice of a why Y62. What you outlined is why I'd go for one too. And the V8 rumble.... cant wait for all the build videos.
The legroom in back is a huge bonus in the 62 is the 2 kids myself its important that its comfortable for them on long trips. I looked at the Ineos and leg room was one of the reasons i turned it down its just too small for a family
Massive reason that pushed me into a patrol was the overall size and room. Doing what we do with camping we need the space. ( want the space. Need is prolly an overreach 😂 )
I am a Toyota man, and honestly you have chosen wisely... Great video..... oh and yes, that indicator in the 300 would be my choice for getting the Y62 alone....lol..
In all honesty, y62 is not competitive in the way ur trying to make it. LC300 is much smaller and much more expensive. Only if Toyota actually sold the sequoia in Australia which is what really competes with the y62(armada brought to Australia).
Well done. Great vid, looking fwd to a collaboration with Dave @dash! Made me think more about my family trips in future. I’m off to go inspect the Y62 in more detail.. 🧐
@@Australian4x4Adventures true, i have no idea why they haven't updated the interior yet. Left hand market got an update that looks way better than the old 2012 one we get.
Fuel prices won’t last forever they will go back down soon enough. No DPF issues No dusting issues No EGR blocking up issues No more worries about water in fuel Lots of pluses for a petrol motor
@@chrisjones1864 just back from 3000kms NSW to SA, the fuel use in my modified and heavy 2021 Y62 nowhere near that. 16l at worst, 14l/100 cruising at 100kph. Diesel was easily 20c per litre more expensive at every stop over 98 octane unleaded.
I have 4 toyota trucks and looking for the 5th: Choices are 200 (300 is not sold in the US) and Armada (Y62). I find the room behind the 3rd row seat is quite small on 100. Believe same with 200, however Y62 got a bigger room (may be you can confirm). Test drove several Armada's here. The basic Armada 4x4 is at US $54 with the destination charge.
Don't forget that a brand new Toyota sequioa is coming to dealers soon. In all honesty, the Landcruiser was never created to compete with those Armada(y62) b/c the Landcruiser was meant to be shorter for better offroading while the sequoia was designed for the extra room.
Thanks mate. Wasn’t out to bag out or blow up the tyres of either car, just went through the pros and cons of each vehicle based on MY needs. Only fair way I could do it.
Well mate , that’s the exact same conclusion I came to also, but I’ll be keeping my 200 for the foreseeable future. I do honestly believe that the 300 is a backward step in many many ways & sales will probably reflect this in the future.
I think the ppl who buy a 300 don’t actually use them for camping and 4wding ( in the majority ). So a lot of the points I pointed out wouldn’t effect a lot of ppl. I doubt too many would a family in a 170k car because most family ppl can’t afford that sorta coin.
Keen to see if you compared to vx and below without the rear screens. I was wondering wtf was going on as sure when I checked out a gxl it had more room. I’ll be checking the 300 vx and y62 back to back now as we have the same growing kid problem… Good vid.
you had me convinced it would be a 300, compare costs between the two and the 62 will always come out in front, from an ownership point of view . takes a long time to spend $50k on petrol, so you will be ahead for maybe he first 5 years. then the good old LC will trump. so benefits to both cars I would be happy with either. Although I have a LC300 GR sport on order with no delivery date yet. Ordered 6 months ago. Good luck with 62, I am sure you will enjoy it
It wasn’t just price for me, I’d happily drop the extra $$ if it suited my needs. But those tears seats are just WAYYY to small for a family like mine ( in my opinion ).
Takes along time to spend 50k on fuel sure, but not on mods and gvm. Eats that up real quick. Id rather mods because i was going to be paying fuel regardless and with fuel you dont spend 50k in one go at the bowser. Mods, you need that money up front.
Congratulations 🎉 I will miss the 200. Will be interesting to see if you miss the 200 after 6 or so months of owning the 62. I agree 100% that the 300 is out of reach for most people now.
Great vid! Do you have further details on the 8t GCM upgrade? Does it need to happen before first rego? Does EC Off-road do it or do the farm it out to someone. Do you know what suspension changes are involved? Does towing capacity still remain at 3.5t? TIA
Towing capacity still remains at 3.5t. You can’t change that unfortunately. EC offroad do it themself but using DMW license who had it approved under their SSM license. It can be done pre and post rego.
The 300 has its work cut out to stay competitive given the new motor, small cabin and price tag. I’m sure Toyota had its hands tied with the engine but it’s come down a level while new utes are coming up a level and now the patrol is the only v8 wagon with a reasonable price tag. Like yourself, I think people are going to be considering the patrol a lot more when coming from a 200. Congrats on the buy and have fun!
For those figures quoted you could buy a new Y62 and get a 2nd hand Y62 for the Mrs.. it's a no brainer.. I knew you chose the Y62 as soon as you got in it and giggled...
Seeing the two vehicles, in my opinion it seems that the 200 series is the best of both worlds, it’s got as much room as the patrol or at least more than the 200 and it’s also got the split tailgate which I love using on my 200 series when I go shopping in Perth
I'm so glad you went the Y62 route, the Landcruiser 300 is a great car, but for $140k, no chance of that, over $160k and when you said an GVM upgrade to 4.5T for around $30k that lost me for good. I know I have said this many times, but Toyota are taking people for a ride with the pricing of there 4WD's and if people like you say, enough is enough, the price may come down, but that's likely. So for now enjoy your Y62 and that $70k will give you plenty to do some great mods.

Dave’s brother from another mother lol good choice mate
Hahahaha. Dash will be happy 😂
Finally you come to your senses and back in a Nissan 🤣🤣
Congratulations mate! nice video BTW.
Hahaha. New you’d be happy about this 😝
i like lc 300
So do I. But it enough to buy one.
Hahaha. Well done on not cheating and actually watching the vid haha. Thank you for that.
I’m super keen for it to arrive so I can start doing mods.
Good vide. Wont hate you f or the choice of a why Y62. What you outlined is why I'd go for one too. And the V8 rumble.... cant wait for all the build videos.
Thanks mate.
I figured rather then trying to cause a stir and just bag out a car, I’d be 100% upfront and the reasons why.
@@Australian4x4Adventures best way to be, honest and up front. Part of why I watch your channel mate.
Nice choice congratulations 🎉
They are a beast and sound awesome, New LandCruiser is for the Grey nomads lol
The legroom in back is a huge bonus in the 62 is the 2 kids myself its important that its comfortable for them on long trips. I looked at the Ineos and leg room was one of the reasons i turned it down its just too small for a family
Massive reason that pushed me into a patrol was the overall size and room.
Doing what we do with camping we need the space. ( want the space. Need is prolly an overreach 😂 )
Can’t wait to see it bro 😎
Me too. It’s painful waiting 😂
I am a Toyota man, and honestly you have chosen wisely... Great video..... oh and yes, that indicator in the 300 would be my choice for getting the Y62 alone....lol..
That bloody indicator 😂
Although Y62 is 12 years old, it is still a tuff copetetor💪🏽 to this new LC300 and that describes a lot
Price plays a massive part in it.
In all honesty, y62 is not competitive in the way ur trying to make it. LC300 is much smaller and much more expensive. Only if Toyota actually sold the sequoia in Australia which is what really competes with the y62(armada brought to Australia).
100% mate, soon as you showed the back seats I new which way you went, that's ridiculous for a 300 series
It’s crazy small.
Well done. Great vid, looking fwd to a collaboration with Dave @dash!
Made me think more about my family trips in future. I’m off to go inspect the Y62 in more detail.. 🧐
I’m not saying the patrol is a better car or not. I think it’s just better suited to my current situation and my family.
@@Australian4x4Adventures
Whaaaaaatever..... :-P
The y62 is a superior vehicle in every respect
Mmmmm. 300 is still better fitted out inside
@@Australian4x4Adventures true, i have no idea why they haven't updated the interior yet. Left hand market got an update that looks way better than the old 2012 one we get.
Well done mate. Cant wait to see what you do with it. 🇦🇺👍❤️🍺
Me too. I’ve already started ording stuff 😝
I plan to buy the Y62 in October, can you please advise where I can update the just update the interior and infotainment system in Sydney please?
Excellent choice, I was hoping you would. much better look and sound. Hope to see you out bush one day.
If ya see me out there make sure ya shout out and say hi.
Welcome to the club. I called it on your last video.
Hahaha. You and half the other ppl who commented 😝
Yep, good choice Steve. I agree about the leg room is a big factor with the kids. Cannot wait to see what you do setting it up from scratch :)
Will be a hamburger with the lot by the time I’m finished with it.
Congrats mate 😁 I love LandCruisers, but you made a sound argument to go with the Patrol.
Tried to explain my reasoning as best I could.
Congratulations Stev on the Y 62 as you said $50,000 is $50,000 and that's a lot of touring. Personally, I like a Y 62 don't tell anybody 😀
Must be the petrol thing from the FJ? :)
He will be paying 3$ a litre for fuel soon with 23l/ per100. That 50k will be going straight to fuel alone lol
Fuel prices won’t last forever they will go back down soon enough.
No DPF issues
No dusting issues
No EGR blocking up issues
No more worries about water in fuel
Lots of pluses for a petrol motor
On a recent trip to the outback petrol was available everywhere and was also cheaper than diesel win-win
There’s about an extra 100mm of space in the y62s.
Don't forget that a brand new Toyota sequioa is coming to dealers soon. In all honesty, the Landcruiser was never created to compete with those Armada(y62) b/c the Landcruiser was meant to be shorter for better offroading while the sequoia was designed for the extra room.
yep smart move.. totally makes sense yr reasons ! plus im a patrol fan boi! :)
Hahahaha. Even some of the Toyota fan club agree with me so I must be into something
"Its only fuel"... was in pain yesterday fuelling the triton and it returns 9l/100.
Enjoy the new bus.
Hahaha. It is a good time to be back to just one car for a little while.
I picked y62 for exact same reason. Room for kids and half the price. No brainer
Exactly right. If I didn’t have kids I’d prolly have gone the other way but.
I hammer our 22 y62 only mod so far is full exhaust and we see 16.6L/100km
I’d be happy with 16-17
So happy you went a y62
Hahaha. I think a lot of ppl are.
Awesome!!! That legroom in the 300 is horrendous. Might as well be a spacecab.
That’s what it felt like.
Can’t argue with your reasons mate congrats
@@Australian4x4Adventures Really, the why is the so called waiting list so long ?
@@mixalis6168 there is a global supply shortage.
Keen to see if you compared to vx and below without the rear screens. I was wondering wtf was going on as sure when I checked out a gxl it had more room. I’ll be checking the 300 vx and y62 back to back now as we have the same growing kid problem… Good vid.
I did drive the EC offroad 300 as well and it did have slightly more leg room ( GXL ) but still well short of what the 62 had.
Ooofttttt. Nice one mate.
Hahaha.
you had me convinced it would be a 300, compare costs between the two and the 62 will always come out in front, from an ownership point of view . takes a long time to spend $50k on petrol, so you will be ahead for maybe he first 5 years. then the good old LC will trump. so benefits to both cars I would be happy with either.
@Buzz by the time you get your money back in fuel you would need to do over 500 000km, a little more then 5 years
Cool. Looking forward to the set up you have
Lots of stuff planned already. Just need a car now.
Congrats with the purchase
Thanks mate.
Good on ya mate - very good choice!!
Haha. Time will tell if it was a good choice 😂
Congratulations 🎉 I will miss the 200. Will be interesting to see if you miss the 200 after 6 or so months of owning the 62.
I agree 100% that the 300 is out of reach for most people now.
Yeah only time will tell and I’m genuinely interested to see if the 62 holds upto the hype the cult members put out. B
Not surprised, totally makes sense. I'd buy one too if I had the dosh!
Beat fit for my needs
Holden Cruze with a capsule for over 12 months, me or the wife in the back 😔
Amazing how a V8 can make you laugh! Digital dash, new head unit and wood grain delete brings this car up to the 21st century! Good choice!
was it an illusion or was the open tailgate below head height on both the LC300 & Y62?
The 300 was pointing up hill which mate the tailgate seem low.
Well done mate👍
Thanks.
Doesnt the rear bench seat have an adjustment to slide back?
The 300 has its work cut out to stay competitive given the new motor, small cabin and price tag.
I’m sure Toyota had its hands tied with the engine but it’s come down a level while new utes are coming up a level and now the patrol is the only v8 wagon with a reasonable price tag.
Like yourself, I think people are going to be considering the patrol a lot more when coming from a 200.
Congrats on the buy and have fun!
Exactly how it all came about. I really wanted to like the 300 but unfortunately it just didn’t tick enough boxes.
@@Australian4x4Adventures you followed the facts and not feelings and ended up with more suitable vehicle, at least you will enjoy the dark side hahah
I highly doubt Toyota is gonna have a problem selling 300s.
@@goodybrown5175 I don’t doubt they will.
@@goodybrown5175 I think Toyota has cancelled the deliveries of 300 series into Australia, indefinitely.
Your Y62 will look great towing your jet ski 😂😂 should’ve just got a Raptor… 😂😂 Oh, and great Vid!
Hahaha. Gotta love a good raptor 😝
For those figures quoted you could buy a new Y62 and get a 2nd hand Y62 for the Mrs.. it's a no brainer.. I knew you chose the Y62 as soon as you got in it and giggled...
Hahahaha. Love a good v8 chuckle
more interested in the cummins at 19:57. didnt know they sold those trucks in australia.
Good choice.. we went from our 200 to the y62 and absolutely love it!! Glad u didn’t go the 300 🤮🤮🤮
Nah couldn’t bring myself to get into a long nose prado
Seeing the two vehicles, in my opinion it seems that the 200 series is the best of both worlds, it’s got as much room as the patrol or at least more than the 200 and it’s also got the split tailgate which I love using on my 200 series when I go shopping in Perth
Don't be sorry mate bloody good choice you won't regret it
Haha. Time will tell if I’ll regret it. But I’m sure I’ll love it.
Nice one mate! I have recently began looking into the 62 over a Ram myself.
Rams are nice. But not suited to my type of 4wd trip
@@Australian4x4Adventures same reasoning I have been looking elsewhere
Good choice! I like that with gvm upgrade you can legally run 37s
Yep. That’s a factor as well.
Bummer, was hoping the 300 haha, cant go wrong with either, have fun with the build
Hahaha. Sorry to disappoint buddy. Had to go with what suited me best 😆
Throw 20k at a Patrol, save the other 25k for fuel and it's a no brainer.
Good decision.
Haha. Thanks Matt. Loving you on the big screen to mate. Well done.
@@Australian4x4Adventures yeah you can’t escape the ugly. Ha ha ha.
In August Toyota sold about 1100 lc300 vs 280 y62 in Australia
And……
We bought a 2023 y62 it arrives in November also. But didn’t pay anywhere near 90+k for it.
Ti or TIL?
