    I have two Y62 s a 2014 ST L and a 2022 Ti fantastic cars on or off road , beautifully smooth and powerful , all independent suspension so it handles well and the big V8 gives it sports car like acceleration, on the open road or towing better fuel efficiency than expected . Huge comfortable interior . A delight to own and drive . Nothing has ever gone wrong mechanically. Great resale value . Strange 12 years after its global launch the car which remains largely unchanged suddenly is getting wide praise …probably because the land cruiser is so expensive and underwhelming.

    I reckon I would have kept the 200, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with the Y62 - I've never been a massive Nissan fan, but were I buying a large wagon, I think that would be my direction - the extra $60k+ buys a lot of fuel!!

    I'm actually thinking about selling my Y62. Was looking at a Fuso Canter 4x4. Not a speed machine by any stretch of the imagination, but built for towing, and can go wheeling in it, just need a license upgrade if you need the 6500kg gvm.
    Congrats on the purchase.

    Pretty much the same conclusion for me when I was deciding between the two, main thing for me was internal and overall driveaway cost, but the ultimate deal breaker for me on the LC300 was the fact that Aussie only gets the dirty diesel along with all the restrictions that comes fitted with modern diesel, I've had bad experience with them so I would never buy another diesel new car.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  2 года назад +6

      Getting away from a diesel was definitely a factor in my choice

    • @peterchown1552
      @peterchown1552 2 года назад +3

      Wow how times have changed, who would have thought hard core 4x4 enthusiasts would have been trying to get away from diesels ten years ago but I can fully understand the reasoning behind it. Only a few years back Toyota dropped the petrol completely in Australia due to dismal sales, as I mentioned the tables have certainly turned. I’ve always loved petrol v8s anyway!

    • @colinboyd7779
      @colinboyd7779 2 года назад +3

      Like modern diesels, modern petrol engines have come a long way in the past 20 years. We have to stop thinking of the tech in the Y62 engine as being similar to an old Aussie V8 because they are a whole generation ahead in efficiency and nowhere near as highly strung as a modern diesel.

    A lot of people whinge about the LC200 and LC300 costs. But why does everyone forget to consider re-sale value? The 200 series at the moment are getting nearly all their money back and according to ABC who ran the article Landcruisers are better than having money in the bank. So the point I make is yes while the Cruisers will cost you more they don't in terms of running costs and re-sale value. The diesel vs petrol argument is a separate one but if range matters it has to be diesel IMO. Having said that the Y62 is a great rig if you don't mind filling it up all the time.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  2 года назад +4

      The resale of the 62 has increased massively since the 300 seems to be falling short of a lot of ppls hopes and dreams.
      I’d rather just buy the car that suits me then worry about what I’m going to sell it for in 5-10 years.

    Personally I say good choice mate. Firstly the money you saved buying the Y62 can add a lot of mods (Bullbar, Winch, Tyres etc etc). Room wise I was really surprised to see so little in the Landcrusier and the back end doesn't look as long either. Interior, well I like the y62 more due to its shape. The Landcruser dash looks strange where the Patrol looks smooth and more sleek, I also much rather that steering wheel look. Only thing I noticed with the Patrol interior was the material seemed to be bunched up on the doors. External, well I much rather the styling of the Patrol as well. I dont like the bonnet on the Cruiser trying to resemble a muscle car or something. Last note, You should of shown Elenore more lmfao.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures

      Between a 62 and a 200 I’d prolly still pick a 200 ( newer ones ). But between the 62 and 300 the 62 wins hands down for me ( as seen in the video ).
      I prefer the interior of the 300 but that’s it.

    • @OnCountryWithMick
      @OnCountryWithMick 2 года назад +1

      @@Australian4x4Adventures between the y62 and 200 I would still go the Gen 4 Pajero lmfao. The 200 is a damn nice car for sure, I have been in one but haven't been in a 62. I'm really not a fan of the dash on the 300 though. Same with the Gen 4 Pajero, I like the Gen 3 styling kore for the dash.

None of us are light weights and with everything I am pushing GVM. It does everything I need of it and for a kid sized 4wd it looks to have more room than the 300.

    I won't hate you mate, I've owned plenty of cruisers, a V8 converted GU patrol and now drive a series 5 y62. I love the 62 and I hope you do too, fuel figures are a bit deceptive with the 62 because when your sitting idling, the computer calculates maximum l/100km which tends to throw the figures out! I have 35's on mine and on the open road I'm averaging high 12's per 100km on the speed limit. There are now plenty of fixes for the rear IDS!

Just trying to weigh up risk vs. reward?

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  2 года назад

      This is really a long conversation but I’ll give you the really short version because I don’t have time to type that much 😂.
      In short.
      Unichip is removable if for any reason you need to, unlike a remap which leaves a permanent mark on the ECU for Toyota to see down the track.
      For Toyota to void a warrant they have to prove that that item has directly caused the failure. So a tune can’t be blamed for a wheel bearing or something not related.
      Unichip cover your drive train warranty if it is proven that their product has caused the damaged ( in writing ).
      Main problem with tuning a 79 is the clutch. It’s pretty much a MUST Do upgrade to upgrade the clutch with the tune Bacause the standard one can’t handle the power.
      Hopefully this helps.
      Otherwise call Unichip and tell ‘em I sent ya and though will look after you.

    I have 4 toyota trucks and looking for the 5th: Choices are 200 (300 is not sold in the US) and Armada (Y62). I find the room behind the 3rd row seat is quite small on 100. Believe same with 200, however Y62 got a bigger room (may be you can confirm). Test drove several Armada's here. The basic Armada 4x4 is at US $54 with the destination charge.

    you had me convinced it would be a 300, compare costs between the two and the 62 will always come out in front, from an ownership point of view . takes a long time to spend $50k on petrol, so you will be ahead for maybe he first 5 years. then the good old LC will trump. so benefits to both cars I would be happy with either.

    The 300 has its work cut out to stay competitive given the new motor, small cabin and price tag.
    I’m sure Toyota had its hands tied with the engine but it’s come down a level while new utes are coming up a level and now the patrol is the only v8 wagon with a reasonable price tag.

    I know I have said this many times, but Toyota are taking people for a ride with the pricing of there 4WD's and if people like you say, enough is enough, the price may come down, but that's likely. So for now enjoy your Y62 and that $70k will give you plenty to do some great mods.
