Strange 12 years after its global launch the car which remains largely unchanged suddenly is getting wide praise …probably because the land cruiser is so expensive and underwhelming.
Hey mate. Great content. Since everyone is complaining about the interior, there are plenty aftermarket options you can get and easily install yourself. Look it up, truly impressive and not very expensive.
A lot of people whinge about the LC200 and LC300 costs. But why does everyone forget to consider re-sale value? The 200 series at the moment are getting nearly all their money back and according to ABC who ran the article Landcruisers are better than having money in the bank. So the point I make is yes while the Cruisers will cost you more they don't in terms of running costs and re-sale value. The diesel vs petrol argument is a separate one but if range matters it has to be diesel IMO. Having said that the Y62 is a great rig if you don't mind filling it up all the time.
The resale of the 62 has increased massively since the 300 seems to be falling short of a lot of ppls hopes and dreams. I’d rather just buy the car that suits me then worry about what I’m going to sell it for in 5-10 years.
Pretty much the same conclusion for me when I was deciding between the two, main thing for me was internal and overall driveaway cost, but the ultimate deal breaker for me on the LC300 was the fact that Aussie only gets the dirty diesel along with all the restrictions that comes fitted with modern diesel, I've had bad experience with them so I would never buy another diesel new car.
Wow how times have changed, who would have thought hard core 4x4 enthusiasts would have been trying to get away from diesels ten years ago but I can fully understand the reasoning behind it. Only a few years back Toyota dropped the petrol completely in Australia due to dismal sales, as I mentioned the tables have certainly turned. I’ve always loved petrol v8s anyway!
Like modern diesels, modern petrol engines have come a long way in the past 20 years. We have to stop thinking of the tech in the Y62 engine as being similar to an old Aussie V8 because they are a whole generation ahead in efficiency and nowhere near as highly strung as a modern diesel.

I’ve found after owning so many Petrol, Diesel cars I save a lot more money at the mechanics with the Petrol.
In all honesty, y62 is not competitive in the way ur trying to make it. LC300 is much smaller and much more expensive. Only if Toyota actually sold the sequoia in Australia which is what really competes with the y62(armada brought to Australia).
You can't beat that leg room and the boot size. There are plenty of mods to future proof the 62 like the one in the video. I'll be doing all that to my series 5 one day. Personally I wasn't keen on buying a petrol V8 but was over having diesels. Too many things to go wrong on them and costs an arm and a leg for parts. Happy to pay more for fuel then expensive parts.
The legroom in back is a huge bonus in the 62 is the 2 kids myself its important that its comfortable for them on long trips. I looked at the Ineos and leg room was one of the reasons i turned it down its just too small for a family
Massive reason that pushed me into a patrol was the overall size and room. Doing what we do with camping we need the space. ( want the space. Need is prolly an overreach 😂 )
That rear seat is absolutely ridiculous. How can a car that size not comfortably carry an adult in the rear. Epic fail. The price difference is insane as well.
I am a Toyota man, and honestly you have chosen wisely... Great video..... oh and yes, that indicator in the 300 would be my choice for getting the Y62 alone....lol..
I have 4 toyota trucks and looking for the 5th: Choices are 200 (300 is not sold in the US) and Armada (Y62). I find the room behind the 3rd row seat is quite small on 100. Believe same with 200, however Y62 got a bigger room (may be you can confirm). Test drove several Armada's here. The basic Armada 4x4 is at US $54 with the destination charge.
Don't forget that a brand new Toyota sequioa is coming to dealers soon. In all honesty, the Landcruiser was never created to compete with those Armada(y62) b/c the Landcruiser was meant to be shorter for better offroading while the sequoia was designed for the extra room.
you had me convinced it would be a 300, compare costs between the two and the 62 will always come out in front, from an ownership point of view . takes a long time to spend $50k on petrol, so you will be ahead for maybe he first 5 years. then the good old LC will trump. so benefits to both cars I would be happy with either. Although I have a LC300 GR sport on order with no delivery date yet. Ordered 6 months ago. Good luck with 62, I am sure you will enjoy it
It wasn’t just price for me, I’d happily drop the extra $$ if it suited my needs. But those tears seats are just WAYYY to small for a family like mine ( in my opinion ).
Takes along time to spend 50k on fuel sure, but not on mods and gvm. Eats that up real quick. Id rather mods because i was going to be paying fuel regardless and with fuel you dont spend 50k in one go at the bowser. Mods, you need that money up front.
You will have problems buying the higher octane fuel in remote areas plus it more expensive than unleaded in cities. Diesel can be obtained every where. I am presently in the remote areas of goldfields of WA prospecting and y62`s are nowhere to be seen no fuel for them. I would have kept the 200 Landcruiser. The Y62 is a nice car but I will stay with my 200 GX Landcruiser as remote travel and a reliable fuel supply is essential for me, everybody out here has diesel.
I don’t live in a remote area so that’s not my immediate concern. And I have two young kids so long term remote travel isn’t on the cards for me any time soon. I’ll be fine.
I don’t think so. I’ve done plenty of Outback travel before in my diesel thinking I wouldn’t be able to get petrol. EVERYWHERE I went had both petrol and diesel. With a fuel capacity of 300lt I’m fairly sure I can skip a few servos and make it somewhere if the odd chance came about that a servo didn’t have petrol. But it definitely will not limit me.
Hahaha, I congratulated you on your 300 purchase last video but secretly hoping you’d join us with our 62s 🤣. Congrats mate, looking forward to your “game changing“ mods 😆
Keen to see if you compared to vx and below without the rear screens. I was wondering wtf was going on as sure when I checked out a gxl it had more room. I’ll be checking the 300 vx and y62 back to back now as we have the same growing kid problem… Good vid.
Hi mate, not directly related to this video but you mentioned it quickly.. Dyno tuning.. Would you recommend for a LC79? I've heard too stay away, can cause havoc if you need to claim warranty etc. Just interested to hear your thoughts?? I'd like a bit more power for highway driving and off-road when needed. Just trying to weigh up risk vs. reward?
This is really a long conversation but I’ll give you the really short version because I don’t have time to type that much 😂. In short. Unichip is removable if for any reason you need to, unlike a remap which leaves a permanent mark on the ECU for Toyota to see down the track. For Toyota to void a warrant they have to prove that that item has directly caused the failure. So a tune can’t be blamed for a wheel bearing or something not related. Unichip cover your drive train warranty if it is proven that their product has caused the damaged ( in writing ). Main problem with tuning a 79 is the clutch. It’s pretty much a MUST Do upgrade to upgrade the clutch with the tune Bacause the standard one can’t handle the power. Hopefully this helps. Otherwise call Unichip and tell ‘em I sent ya and though will look after you.

Price plays a massive part in it.
In all honesty, y62 is not competitive in the way ur trying to make it. LC300 is much smaller and much more expensive. Only if Toyota actually sold the sequoia in Australia which is what really competes with the y62(armada brought to Australia).
Don't be sorry mate bloody good choice you won't regret it
Haha. Time will tell if I’ll regret it. But I’m sure I’ll love it.
Congratulations mate smart choice it has to work for the family.👍
Exactly right. Couldn’t fit the family in the 300
Called it 💪 welcome to the Y62 club 👊
Hahahaha. Few ppl called it I think
Amazing how a V8 can make you laugh! Digital dash, new head unit and wood grain delete brings this car up to the 21st century! Good choice!
Ooofttttt. Nice one mate.
Hahaha.
Throw 20k at a Patrol, save the other 25k for fuel and it's a no brainer.
Well done.... congrats ....
Haha. Thank you
The legroom in back is a huge bonus in the 62 is the 2 kids myself its important that its comfortable for them on long trips. I looked at the Ineos and leg room was one of the reasons i turned it down its just too small for a family
Massive reason that pushed me into a patrol was the overall size and room.
Doing what we do with camping we need the space. ( want the space. Need is prolly an overreach 😂 )
The rear seat in the Toyota locked really small. It's going to be a nice build.
Thanks mate. I’m keen to get it and start.
Doesnt the rear bench seat have an adjustment to slide back?
Has anyone ever asked to try to keep the camera a little steadier and to not spin around as much?
Ppl have asked for lots of things but I just film it the way it happens 🤷🏿♂️. This isn’t a professional production. It’s RUclips.
It’s a no brainer. Y62 all the way.
Hahaha. Turns out ya right
That rear seat is absolutely ridiculous. How can a car that size not comfortably carry an adult in the rear. Epic fail. The price difference is insane as well.
I am a Toyota man, and honestly you have chosen wisely... Great video..... oh and yes, that indicator in the 300 would be my choice for getting the Y62 alone....lol..
That bloody indicator 😂
I have 4 toyota trucks and looking for the 5th: Choices are 200 (300 is not sold in the US) and Armada (Y62). I find the room behind the 3rd row seat is quite small on 100. Believe same with 200, however Y62 got a bigger room (may be you can confirm). Test drove several Armada's here. The basic Armada 4x4 is at US $54 with the destination charge.
There’s about an extra 100mm of space in the y62s.
@Buzz by the time you get your money back in fuel you would need to do over 500 000km, a little more then 5 years
We bought a 2023 y62 it arrives in November also. But didn’t pay anywhere near 90+k for it.
Ti or TIL?
Congratulations, can't wait to see what you do with it
No Hate at all the patrol is a sick rig !
Could always supercharge it too and still be way ahead
It’s on the cards but not for a while
Not surprised, totally makes sense. I'd buy one too if I had the dosh!
Beat fit for my needs
Holden Cruze with a capsule for over 12 months, me or the wife in the back 😔
You will have problems buying the higher octane fuel in remote areas plus it more expensive than unleaded in cities.
@@Australian4x4Adventures Pity, you will be restricted where you can go to in some of the most beautiful places in Australia.
I have seen the Y62 TIL priced at 130 k drive away
Yeah some ppl are asking crazy money for them.
I plan to buy the Y62 in October, can you please advise where I can update the just update the interior and infotainment system in Sydney please?
Bummer, was hoping the 300 haha, cant go wrong with either, have fun with the build
Hahaha. Sorry to disappoint buddy. Had to go with what suited me best 😆
Smart Man 70 grand difference
Thanks heaps
Hahaha. Pays for a lot of mods and fuel
Cool. Looking forward to the set up you have
Lots of stuff planned already. Just need a car now.
Love ya work bloke 👍
Great 👍 choice!! Now time to talk to David!
Hahaha. Dave’s been trying to get me to do stuff for ages 😂
@@Australian4x4Adventures 😅😂🤣
Hahaha, I congratulated you on your 300 purchase last video but secretly hoping you’d join us with our 62s 🤣. Congrats mate, looking forward to your “game changing“ mods 😆
Hahahaha. Watch this space for the game to be changed 😂
@@Australian4x4Adventures haha. You need to come up with a catch phrase ;)
Nice choice congratulations 🎉
They are a beast and sound awesome, New LandCruiser is for the Grey nomads lol
I knew from last video you will buy y62. I just went straight to the end of video. Then I watched again
Keen to see if you compared to vx and below without the rear screens. I was wondering wtf was going on as sure when I checked out a gxl it had more room. I’ll be checking the 300 vx and y62 back to back now as we have the same growing kid problem… Good vid.
I did drive the EC offroad 300 as well and it did have slightly more leg room ( GXL ) but still well short of what the 62 had.
Awesome video. Shalom
Thanks mate
Good decision.
Haha. Thanks Matt. Loving you on the big screen to mate. Well done.
@@Australian4x4Adventures yeah you can’t escape the ugly. Ha ha ha.
Congrats mate 😁 I love LandCruisers, but you made a sound argument to go with the Patrol.
Tried to explain my reasoning as best I could.
Great watch mate, I was sooo surprised. You'll love it, we loved ours. Supercharge it, its only fuel lol
19's to Queensland towing the Jetski :)
Oh how I’d love a supercharger. Just don’t have the $$$ to spend on that sorta stuff right now
Nice one mate! I have recently began looking into the 62 over a Ram myself.
Rams are nice. But not suited to my type of 4wd trip
@@Australian4x4Adventures same reasoning I have been looking elsewhere
Nissan Patrol all day everyday!
Well it will be from November on 😂
Great choice Steve.👍
Hahaha. Time will tell me if it was a good choice or not 😂
good pick mate 🤙
Hahaha. Time will tell if it’s a good pick or not hahaha. Just need it to bloody arrive already 😂
@@Australian4x4Adventures I just did the same thing sold my 200 series for a y62 🤙
I didn't read the comments at the start of the video so I would be in suspense for what you got, had me on edge till the end. Great buy mate, time to go on more adventures in the 62...well till November. Congratulations Steve, can't wait. Where's George???🤣🤣 He'd have the biggest smile on his dial.
Hahaha. Well done on not cheating and actually watching the vid haha. Thank you for that.
I’m super keen for it to arrive so I can start doing mods.
yep smart move.. totally makes sense yr reasons ! plus im a patrol fan boi! :)
Hahahaha. Even some of the Toyota fan club agree with me so I must be into something
