In order to play the _game of faces,_ there must be a *storyteller* (telling a story about oneself and making a lie sound like a truth), and/or a *listener* (trying to catch that lie). It doesn't matter if one is unaware of the situation, the other can still play and tell a dishonest story or use the skills to detect the lie. Even if the actual storyteller/listener has deep hatred to the one that was unaware. In this video, Arya began playing the game as a _storyteller_ by sharing her story about her childhood & her father. She then inserted a lie by saying "…killed by the Lannisters with your help." Sansa, a _listener_ who is clearly not playing nor completely aware of the game, caught the lie by replying "What?" Arya then angrily confronted Sansa about the letter (Arya's emotions were real here). She asked Sansa what was the letter all about and what was her actual story and why was she beside the Lannisters during their father's confession (knowing Sansa's direwolf had already been killed by them). In this instance, Arya is now the _listener,_ while Sansa (who is still not playing & unaware of the game) is now the _storyteller,_ only not fully telling but just merely answering questions from the listener. (Similar to Jaqen/waif asking questions to Arya, only this time, she's not holding a stick.) Sansa was totally genuine about her story, her answers, and her explanation. Arya, who is still angry at her sister about her past decisions, was trying to catch any lie by Sansa. She couldn't. That's why in the next scene (bedroom/dagger scene), when Sansa tried to find the letter, Arya confronted her again by demonstrating the *game of faces* to her because she already had played it/tested her without Sansa knowing-the same scenario when the Waif played it without Arya knowing ("I didn't even know I was playing"). Arya knows Sansa has been truthful and now loyal to Jon and would never betray their family _again_ because Sansa explained this herself, "I was a child." She has now changed. Arya also sympathizes and understands her sister's situation when Sansa said, "I've suffered things you can never imagine." That's why Arya handed the dagger to her, a sign of trust & protection, because she would, likewise, never kill nor betray Sansa and their family. PS: Arya also handed the dagger because she lost the game ("If you fool me, you win; if I catch a lie, you lose"). Sansa caught the lie: the "Lady of Winterfell" statement.
One thing this vid left out was that Ned had a conversation with Arya after Lady’s death. Ned explicitly told Arya that Sansa could not be called before the king and queen and call their son a liar. Ned basically told Arya that Sansa has to play the game now. Of course Arya didn’t understand then, but she does now.
The PS wasn’t needed. Arya wasn’t playing, so she can’t lose. She’s making Sansa play to see if Sansa will lose or not. Everything else is so spot on though
He´s been so focused on Sansa the whole time that he didn´t bother much with details on "the little sister" and could only assume she´d be playing the same game as all the other girls he pushed around.
A death that’s always overlooked but was honestly (one) of the saddest (to me) was Yoren who saved Arya at her father’s execution. He had no obligation to her. He did it out of decency and honor. Risked his life, and gave it. And if he hadn’t, she would have been taken captive right then and there, and treated like Sansa, maybe worse since she wasn’t engaged to a Lannister. Underrated guy!!!!
They were the only ones to be deeply traumatized by seeing their father die. Sent them both on wildly different paths. Yet they come together because of the honor and real love within their family. The sweet summer children of Winterfell became hardened enough to deal with The Long Night.
Sansa was right when she said Arya wouldn't have survived the things and horrors she went through. The same way Sansa wouldn't have survived the horrors Arya went through. They both had different personalities and characters and none could take the place of the other. It's just like the case of a cat and a dog. The dog will never behave like the cat and the cat will never behave like the dog.
ever seen a cat that grew up amongst dogs and vice versa? not to say you´re wrong with the two walking their own pathes, just that the cats/ dogs analogy doesn´t quite fit because, being very social animals, they do adapt :)
There's a book series I absolutely adore called Artorian's Archives. It follows an old man who has had his storied life already, in his twilight years, maybe a year at most from his natural death. The kidnapping of the children he mentors and cares for in the village he fled and retired to spurs him to action, struggling between the hard years ruining his body and the nigh insurmountable strength of the world at large to find, save, rescue his kin. In it, the old man-- a self-proclaimed philosopher, among other things, imagines a campfire, perhaps demonstrative of his will or soul, around which are seated past versions of himself. He approaches, and looks at different eras of his life represented by the different faces of varying ages that he once wore. The Elder sits, on the next seat, and exhales. "I have failed," he had said, felt, knew. "I cannot go on any longer. Will you take my place?" And he looks next to him, to where next empty spot would be, as the old man let go of himself, of that personality, of his psyche, killing what he once was and re-assembling a new personality. Someone who has a new purpose and cannot give up. Someone who has to go to war, not someone who has fled all that he knew. A story about a man who acknowledged that sometimes you have to look at yourself and realize what you were must, is, and has died, in order to make the next step, the next stage, the next evolution, the next *being* that you have to be. Figurative and philosophical, but quite engaging. To know oneself, acknowledge, and sometimes, let part of yourself die to let another bloom.
You are brilliant for taking the time to make and share this. Your explanation makes much more sense to me than "the writers forgot" as to why the Arya-Sansa scene initially appears to be contradictory, or random. Santé!
I caught that lie too, Arya imagining herself as Lady of Winterfell to Sansa who knew her too well to think it was true. I have thought about it long and hard and I think after this was when they finally were able to unite as a team to eliminate their enemy, Littlefinger. After they both understood each other with familiarity. A bond was created where one had never existed.
That wasn't a lie, Arya said that telling her I can even kill you and impersonate you like it's nothing....I just won't and gave her the dagger so she would know that she can trust her and it's also afraid of her or her army lol
It was a lie. She suspected that Littlefinger was listening and 17:52 told a story to convince him of enmity between sisters, then reverse the knife so Sansa knew the story was a lie and she was giving Sansa her full support. ansa

yeah, definitely didn't mean this version isn't great. just remembering how it originally turned me completely around on how good the last two seasons were, which is an amazing feat.
I hate that they did the North so wrong. Not a single Northerner would have allowed the battle of bastards to happen without taking a sword and fighting for John Snow and the Starks. But I like this video, it shows one of the very few decent storylines they made: Arya playing the game of faces with Sansa before forgiving her.
very nice cut. its the age old question of "when in a bad situation, is it better to run, regroup and reconquer from the outside, or to stay make a few questionable agreements and reconquer from the inside"? both sides are valid, the interesting part is, that the goals are the same, yet both sides fight over which did the right thing.
Both are valid options depending on who you are ; different personality types will be able to pull of one or the other of the choices but not many people are capable of both.
You are the most brilliant editor I've ever had the pleasure to watch. Every cut is perfection. Always brings tears to my eyes. I wish I'd had a father like Ned. He understood all his children, and loved them as they were.
This show was magnificent. Maisie's casting was perfect. She has to have been the most adorable little girl I've seen in I don't know how long, and watching her and her character grow up in this role has been really amazing.

These edits are superb. Really brings out the fine detail in the series and makes me appreciate it more. Of course the final few seasons didn’t live up to the hype and buildup of the preceding seasons and the books, however, they were at least paying homage to the story for the most part. While these videos make me appreciate the weighting slightly more, it doesn’t excuse them from the lazy writing. Anyone can be a critic though and I’m well aware that criticism is one thing while doing a better job yourself is quite another.

I forget if it's in the series, but in the books, Sansa sends a letter to Cersei telling her that Ned is leaving King's Landing for the North because Sansa does not want to leave Joffrey. That's when Ned gets imprisoned and becomes a big part of the betrayal.
@@kim29817 sansa was also very young at that time. 12 as far as I can remember compared to quite older sophie. Once we take into consideration the ages of the Stark kids, the mistakes they make start to make a lot of sense. I actually like sansa in the books not as in she's a very wise person, but since she's very real. We also get to see her learning curve. God is there any chance we get Winds of Winter?
She didn’t send a letter. At least I’m pretty sure. I just finished that chapter and she had gone to Cersei’s room after hearing her dad tell her and Arya that they were to go on the ship in like a fortnight. She figured the king would side with him, Joff wasn’t king yet so he couldn’t do anything and so she thought Cersei would who had been kind to her so far would understand her about the love she had for Joff so she told her about her dads plan and the name of the ship they were gonna be taking. Then after Neds death is when she writes the letter for Cersei to send to Robb, Cat, The Vale, Riverrun and I think the Wall so that the Starks could bend the knee to Joffrey. I so wish they kept that in the show if they were gonna go down this route for Arya and Sansa’s reunion. It would have made things so much more intense.
I never understand the scenes and the sister’s attitudes toward each other in s7, it didn’t make sense to me and it all felt…rushed? If rushed is the right word x
Nah, my brother and I caught on immediately. Sansa already knew Littlefinger was not to be trusted, Bran as the raven was also aware, and Arya could tell from what she learned at the house of black and white. Arya was showing Sansa what she could do, her skill set, now they needed to coordinate and take out the threat.... don't let him catch on, until it is too late.
Ok…I’m just picking up on this but when Arya asks Ned if she can be lord of a holdfast, Ned says she’ll be a lady and marry a lord and give him kids and stuff. It’s ironic though how it was Sansa who ended up becoming a Lady in her own right at least on the show.
@@EldeLDorELLENI’d argue it kinda did because House of the Dragon is a “continuation” despite it being a prequel. It leaves room for other spin-offs too.
@@MihaelLawliet01 you won’t be disappointed, other than not having anything else happen in your life other than binge watching the whole series in one day
Brilliant. I know I am late to the game, but if you could find the effects of Madness creeping up on Daenaris before her rampage, that would be awesome.
Why did the faceless man send her to take out Ayra? Was is because he thought her training wasn't going well or was she sacrafuces to complete the training? He didn't seen to mind when Ayra took her name back like he knew it was destiny so why attack her?
Great series, I miss it. Sure would have liked an Arya spinoff. Never did understand why John being the chosen one was never in the ending, it was all building up to that and then nothing.
Yeah many people say that but if you watch reactions most like it up to the last few episodes. What I disliked was the feet dragging when they ran out of books and then the forced speed of "wrap this up guys" at the end. That and the stupid things they do to have a reunion at kings landing. The whole let's kidnap a wight nonsense. It took longer than just taking the city killing Cercie and taking the throne. Then the lanisters and all there remaining banners would definitely ride north. She was never going to help anyone but herself no matter what and everyone that agreed with the plan knew that. Almost as stupid as the "I can't see the fleet of ships from the air until I get inside scorpion range" nonsense.
Game of Faces for dummies: They are assassin, if they want to infiltrate they have to lie and be convincing, on the other end it helps them to discover if someone is telling the truth. Arya took so many slaps even during game of faces when not telling the truth or not convincing her mentor. Sansa is so smart. She picked that up, and played game of faces with little finger scene before he was executed.
I know Arya was pretty well loved by many, but I just don't like her. Maybe it was the casting.....but looking at these old clips... find her attitude and conceit rather annoying.
Arya was fine as scared kid but was totally out of depth portraying a little girl who becomes an assassin. Became very cringe and ridiculous plot armour saves her several times. The Hound puts her in her place.
Its because of Sansa thw whole Winterfell got doomed. Arya at the end got so powerful that she could have killed Sansa along with her beloved Littlefinger
Idk if I agree but I love your interpretation of the scenes, their relationship, and Arya’s experience with the faceless men Probably higher level than what d&d were aiming for
What did their mother teach them? She was emotional, irrational, jelious, revengeful woman who started war by capturing Tywin. Also, she brought Robb's demise by releasing Jamie. Silly woman.
@@deanooooooo6496 cause their mother didn't have as strong influence as their dad had in their lifes. If Cercie's kids didn't die do you think they would cherish memory of her much after her death?!
@@CLXCL ??? Where do you get this information from? Both of those women were loving mothers, Cersei was a bit crazy but it was stated multiples times about her love for her children, Catelyn raised 6 kids and all of them turned out to be exemplary, yeah she did terribly.

It's kind of weird ain't it The weakest one ends up being Lady of winterfell while the strongest one that should be Lady of winterfell goes on adventures
the whole contribution of sansa uptil this point was nothing, she was alive because littlefinger liked her, and ramsay didn't kill her, vale was littlefinger, meanwhile arya avenged the red wedding single handedly and avenged all of his father's betrayers!, sansa what are you smoking???
she got her home back. only Sansa could rule the North. Once a woman learns how to protect herself.. She does not necessarily need a King. But a King will ALWAYS NEED a Queen.
I guess I didn't spot any explanation because I didn't misinterprete it? I remember all those scenes and you taking them out of context and cronological order didn't give any insight at least to me.
Gods how I hate Sansa. She deserved every evil thing that happened to her in the books and the tv show... worse even. You always have a choice, and she always chose wrong.
I once read that there was a deleted scene where Sansa and Arya went to Bran, and he uses his ability as the Three Eyed Raven to show Littlefinger’s involvement in destroying and dividing the family, which is how they decided he should be executed. If that scene existed, it should have been left in the series to clarify these scenes with Sansa and Arya.
@@cerebrumexcrementLittlefinger doesn't even know the game of faces exists. And he was watching which is why they had to play along to catch him. If he knew the jig was up he would flee and regroup.
@@maliaswett6199Kind to her? She demanded the death of her wolf.
Not exactly kindness in my book.
The ending of this edit got me hard. Brilliant video ❤️
?? Bro
Just saw you liked it dawg
Ok…I’m just picking up on this but when Arya asks Ned if she can be lord of a holdfast, Ned says she’ll be a lady and marry a lord and give him kids and stuff. It’s ironic though how it was Sansa who ended up becoming a Lady in her own right at least on the show.
Very good editing. Thank you
Once again...well done!!
God I miss this show. One of those series that could have gone on and on
Thank fuck it didnt
@@EldeLDorELLENI’d argue it kinda did because House of the Dragon is a “continuation” despite it being a prequel. It leaves room for other spin-offs too.
@@MihaelLawliet01 at the end of the day we all enjoy what we enjoy, have you watched 1883?
@@EldeLDorELLEN I haven’t, I’ll look up the trailer shortly. Thanks for the recommendation?
@@MihaelLawliet01 you won’t be disappointed, other than not having anything else happen in your life other than binge watching the whole series in one day
Brilliant. I know I am late to the game, but if you could find the effects of Madness creeping up on Daenaris before her rampage, that would be awesome.
Does anyone have a download copy of the original one I never seen it.
Why did the faceless man send her to take out Ayra? Was is because he thought her training wasn't going well or was she sacrafuces to complete the training?
He didn't seen to mind when Ayra took her name back like he knew it was destiny so why attack her?
A VERY Good Edit
freakin hell hearing the theme of winterfell still hurts my soul
An amazing edit!
Great series, I miss it. Sure would have liked an Arya spinoff. Never did understand why John being the chosen one was never in the ending, it was all building up to that and then nothing.
This was awesome, thank you
Great editing.
I'd truly like to know if the writers had this in mind. As shitty as the last seasons were I feel like they didn't put this much thought into it.
1. The arrow of cupid finds brotherly love! The moment John snow knew why he loved his little sister and Bran felt a little bested!
Great edit, kudos.
Whoa this sure is a big misunderstanding if only a character can view all past events
Like a raven but with 3 eyes
both Sansa and Arya had their own unique journey, which made the series really great.
excellent job!
"You're just a little girl"
arya grew up in a unique way since the last time she saw her sister
Its because of Sansa thw whole Winterfell got doomed. Arya at the end got so powerful that she could have killed Sansa along with her beloved Littlefinger
Idk if I agree but I love your interpretation of the scenes, their relationship, and Arya’s experience with the faceless men
Probably higher level than what d&d were aiming for
Arya’s “seven hells.. 🙄” lmao
9:40 I read this JUST as she said it. >XD
Too touching great efforts.. i wish they create something with all the character in them in a different plot
Arya would have made a terrible ruler. All she cared about was revenge. And I found her extremely annoying when she came back to Winterfell.
I thought this was a disceting videos, explanations about any foreshadowing, red herring, symbols or whatever. Aanndd it isn't.
They both played the game of faces and both got different results.
They are doing embroidery not knitting
I always found it odd, they only talk about Ned, not their mother.
how about that...real talk 💯
What did their mother teach them? She was emotional, irrational, jelious, revengeful woman who started war by capturing Tywin. Also, she brought Robb's demise by releasing Jamie. Silly woman.
@@CLXCL and her daughters should not love her and cherish the memories they would have of their beloved mother raising them.
Good cuts 👍
Man this was so good hard to chose a side
Tbh with the great amount of people who misinterpreted this scene, I still blame the writers. Good writing would do the same, with the audience able to under
It's kind of weird ain't it The weakest one ends up being Lady of winterfell while the strongest one that should be Lady of winterfell goes on adventures
No
Because Sansa was a part of The game. Arya made her game, two different things.
Silly Sansa betrayed her father and her wolf for a boy and doomed her family. It was so satisfying hearing Arya confront her with this truth.
the whole contribution of sansa uptil this point was nothing, she was alive because littlefinger liked her, and ramsay didn't kill her, vale was littlefinger, meanwhile arya avenged the red wedding single handedly and avenged all of his father's betrayers!, sansa what are you smoking???
she got her home back. only Sansa could rule the North.
Yeah I can see what they were trying to do but not all of their cuts were that good.
Same. The writing was shit. Nothing could change my mind.
Arya let Sansa know they were playing by the knitting comment. It wasn’t knitting. She confirmed she remembered.
Sophie Turner (Sansa) ended up keeping the dog that played her diarwolf, LADY
GOT is the GOAT
Misinterpreted Greatly? Ever consider remedial English?
i guess we will never know..................
Yea no.am sure sansa wouldn't handle what arya went through. Though she suffered, there was always somebody there.
GoT is the best series ever. Best among the best❤❤❤💯💯💯
14:22 is the moment i still don't like sansa 😅
How could they butcher this show that bad. My mailbox would have written a better final season.
sansa is already a pro at the game of faces.
the lone wolf dies, but the packs survive
Gods how I hate Sansa. She deserved every evil thing that happened to her in the books and the tv show... worse even. You always have a choice, and she always chose wrong.
I love it beautyful ladys and Fights better like a men biggest respect ❤❤❤
I don’t know which of these two i have more of a crush on
I wonder were they were reallyangry with each at first before realizing little finger wanted them angry
I once read that there was a deleted scene where Sansa and Arya went to Bran, and he uses his ability as the Three Eyed Raven to show Littlefinger’s involvement in destroying and dividing the family, which is how they decided he should be executed. If that scene existed, it should have been left in the series to clarify these scenes with Sansa and Arya.
littlefinger was watching them so i knew they were playing the game of faces.
@@cerebrumexcrementwhat do you mean
@@cerebrumexcrementLittlefinger doesn't even know the game of faces exists. And he was watching which is why they had to play along to catch him. If he knew the jig was up he would flee and regroup.
Littlefinger thinks his wedge is working and has to for their plan to catch him to work.
He saw the demonstration of Aria's abilities and knows she is a threat he must get rid of.
He should have known when Bran says "chaos is a ladder" but he can't fathom Brans power.
08:44 Governar a Coreia no Norte?? que porra é essa marreco???
Watching this made me hate Sansas character again.😂Couldn’t stand her back in the days.
The thing is, they didn't need to play that stupid little game to kill Little Finger. It's just horrible writing and that's ALL it is
BEST SHOW in the history of t.v. (In my opinion) but the ending was definitely rushed. I thought Jon and Sansa would actually end up together because it made sense for political reasons. I guess that's why they're supposedly doing a sequel to "Jon Snow" because his ending was TRAGIC.
@@lrlavalais2068It didn’t make sense at all, they are first cousins raised as siblings, it wouldn’t make sense, Jon didn’t even want to be with Dany after finding out she was his aunt, he’d never touch Sansa in that way or have any thoughts of marriage, she’s his little sister
@@Winskl9010mmm...... Have you read the books? Did you not catch the hints of the cloaking? Jon didn't give a damn that Dany was his aunt. It was his identity that had him disturbed. It's what Targaryens do anyway. It's in their bloodlines. Don't try to change something because YOU don't like it. Piss off and go read a book. In fact Jon was supposed to marry Arya just in case you're dumb.
And by the way, Ned Stark's parents were first cousins as well.
Sansa was definitely not worth anything
the whole arya vs sansa plot they dreamed up was dumb. Arya was never going to hurt Sansa.
Arya didn’t hurt Sansa, what are you on about? This was about tension and debate… they were at odds from birth but they knew they needed each other and, of course, they loved each other. The language of death was the only way Arya knew how to communicate by this point, but even then… after they squared away were each of them stood, in the end they stood side by side in great sisterly love. Season 8 was amazing! Haters be damned, internet-brains follow while those who know… know!
#Rajma-Chawal!
I hate Sansa still and always will!
I loved who Sansa became. The little bird became a Hawk.
Ladys the Power of beautyfulness Hammer geil princesses ❤
Sansa Stark, the greatest useless for Winterfell.
Just a token, so others could get what they wanted.
