RIP legend - we'll be talking about u FOREVER Layne Thomas Stayley. The King of vocals, nvr was& nvr will be again a voice as powerful, beautiful& emotive as his.
Why why why ? is what I ask myself everytime hear his songs. Plus there would have been so many more. It's just a shame. He was unbelievable. I hope he's at peace and knows how much his music was loved and how much he is missed. No more suffering, but he left a lot of broken hearts behind. Greatly missed. Never forgotten. ❤
..yes you can even at an early age ..breaks my heart cuz he deserved a happy life such an Ole Soul which is where all of the songs we love came from ....miss and love him ❤️
Last one don't know if anyone can do it like he did Layne Staley the man, the myth, the legend R.I.P. Layne u will always be missed and loved brother 🤟🤘💀👊
Thank you for mentioning this, before Alice in Chains, Layne was in an 80s group called Sleze and his vocals were very Rob Halford like! I recently covered "Rooster" (on my profile) hope you all like!
@@allnighterofficial hey thanks for listening! I appreciate it, you're probably correct, no layering or doubling on any of the harmonies I'll keep that in mind next time!
Just listen to the effortless control he had at any age !! Raw extraordinary talented Man .Gorgeous in every way and he deserved to have a good woman's love that he never allowed himself after Demeri .A RARE one woman Man that us girls would LOVE to have !!
This is my 3 full blood cousin. I miss him Layne T. Staley. I wish we could make music together, but we will in heaven one day for the Lord. Tommy Ray Staley Jr.
I remember when I had JUST moved back to the US and I was laying in my bed depressed in this furnished apartment my moms job was paying for , listening to Howard Stern. That’s what u did back then , listen to the radio or watch TV. It was 2001 and Howard had just heard that Layne had passed away … think Gary or someone else told him … he was flabbergasted and i didn’t realize until years later who Layne was . Of course I knew their music , but back then u couldn’t just go online and look up everything u wanted to know, crazy times …
I'm actually much more impressed with his belted notes than I am these higher notes. Those high notes are nothing in head voice/falsetto like he's doing, but those belts are almost impossible.
That's why I always say that Laynes range wasn't the most impressive it was his ability to transition from note to note, flawlessly, and hold it way longer than most people can. It's like the man had three lungs
As of right now I can hit an E6 and can definitely hit those notes in the video pretty easily. I've been practicing for almost 10 years though, so It's kind of expected. Soon I'll start doing covers.
Phil Anselmo from Pantera also hits that G5 in Cemetery Gates at the end of the song. The 90’s had the best music in every genre in my opinion. From Hip Hop to Rock, country to Metal and everything else
for all his ability of stretching his vocal range... its actually when he sings fragile which i feel is his best work... in particular the AIC unplugged performance
I'm a huge Layne Staley fan and can hit some crazy notes. But let us not forget Rob Halfords crazy voice.or RJ Dio or Dickerson from Maiden. Rest Layne
It's not easy hitting notes like this. Believe I failed many times before actually hitting them. One of the hardest songs I've ever sang in harmony with the recording was painkiller by judas priest. It's even harder trying go beyond them notes. I don't know if I can still sing an octave higher or not cause I haven't tried in about a year or two. But I'm basically maxing out my vocal range when I did.
???? Axl and Chris can actually sing in that range these are just screams scratches AoC fans are so delusional 😂. They’d both sing circles around him!!!!
@@michaelromano1153 these are not screams. Layne and Chris had almost the exact same range. But Layne could transition to, hit and hold those high notes way better. Look up both Soundgarden and AIC live in 93 and tell me who sounded better.
It's a strange thing that a talent like Stanleys gave/gives us more than it could him. Seems the case with some other raw talents. Really is a topsy turvy world
Mike Patton of Faith No More/Mr Bungle (and MANY more projects) has a bigger vocal range than anybody mentioned in this video. Don't believe me, research it. Better yet, listen to all the Mr Bungle albums and hear for yourself how insanely versatile he is.
His voice was meant for that glam esq stuff. He pushed hard to sing low in AIC. That’s why a lot of guys who try to cover him, don’t have that grit. That’s what I think anyway. I’m no musician lol.

And yet somehow, Rolling Stone left him off their 200 Best Singers of All Time list 🙄
Are you serious?
@@bigbillhaywood1415 unfortunately.
No fucking way!!
Theres absolutely no way.
Are you serious?
@@ledzep9943 I am. I wish I wasn't, but I am.
For some weird reason Rolling Stone hates Alice in chains and all of their members. They refuse to include them in any list 🤦🏻♀️
Miss this lyrically talented beautiful soul, such a loss 🖤
Layne Staley was a singer that u will never hear again that is how unique and good he was an amazing icon
His voice was pure magic, he could reach any note he wanted 💗
my throat aches just listening to that. what an impressive singer he was
Comparing Axl Pose to Layne Staley is like comparing a Cavalier to a Corvette.
Glazer
@20FreeWill : have you even heard Pose live? Lmao
just because of prestige?
they are both amazing singers.
@@warrengauthier4699for his age Axl is actually pretty good still
@hunterrollins5646 : Staley is long gone so Pose is the current winner.

Same with Chester Bennington
He is a vocal god. These are amazing! Thank you for sharing. He could do it all!
I have such mad respect have just talented he was with his voice. He is dearly missed a lot .
One of my favorites! I love Layne Staley. I am so sad he is gone far to early. You can literally see his pain in his eyes ❤️
..yes you can even at an early age ..breaks my heart cuz he deserved a happy life such an Ole Soul which is where all of the songs we love came from ....miss and love him ❤️
Why did his friends and family not help him. Physically carry him to the best doctors in the world he could afford it.
He is absolutely beautiful in that thumbnail. Angelic. 🙏🏼♥️☮️
This before heroine. Destroying lives is the devil's plan. Heroine is just one of his best tools. Pure evil.
I love that man, beautiful person. So sad to lose him :-(
He wasn't just great

Essa voz é incrível, layne Stanley oce faiz falta. 👏👏👏👏👏❤
Oh wow! That last video was from the year I met Layne, he was a kid-18 on that demo.
"FE EE EED MY EYES"
Because he was trained by Maestro Kyle like Geoff Tate. I love how they took his teaching in their own completely different ways.
Axel who? Can you please do one on Peter Steele?🙏🇺🇸❤️
for all his ability of stretching his vocal range... its actually when he sings fragile which i feel is his best work... in particular the AIC unplugged performance
these notes are so cool
Where was the first performance?
1-Layne; 2-Cornell; 3-Ed that's it.
How come no one has brought up the really high notes he sung in 'I can't remember? Hearing that is what solidified his talent in my mind. RIP Layne
That G#5 at the end sounded absolutely inhuman....bro was a wendigo
Hey man I missed your content I’ve been off social for a while now how’s your kitty? ❤your work Quartani
Gone too soon. Dirt was an extraordinary piece of art.
Love his vocals #1 all time
The last one 😭
Love Layne Staley ❤
What is the first performance?
Men in a box
Lindo, talentoso demais ! Sera que sabia seu tamanho imenso ? 🎉❤🎉
Extreme talent
Alice in Chains was a hair metal band in the late 80s. They hopped on the grunge train because that's what was starting to become popular on Seattle.
LEGEND
y tambien es guapooooo
He has the voice of a pissed off angel!!!
He's been described as an angry angel many times. His mom called his voice "razor blades muffled with marshmallows" and I fucking love it
So gorgeous 😢Gone too soon
I fucking love Queen of the Rodeo

Axle Rose doesn't belong in the same sentence as Layne Stanley. And Chris Cornel never had the songs.

You should docone on Mike Patton. Biggest vocal range in history.
You forgot he was a fan of Rob Halford and he clearly sings like him in many occasions, not only when he screams high pitched notes
What about Phil Alselmo from Pantera?
Definitely onw of the greatest
I luv Layne 💔❤️

In a way he had a voice absolutely born for hair metal
Layne top power vocalist, but Mike Patton for best all round vocalist. I way prefer Alice to FNM and Mr Dingle.
I never felt the same emotion from Axl.. gifted no doubt, but completely different
❤❤❤❤Amazing Voice XXXX
Remember that one time Maynard asked Lane to sing back up for him because his voice was getting tired
who was at the VERY end??
That was Layne as a teenager in his glam rock band Sleaze (right before AIC was formed)
and Mike Patton!
the last one sounded like a mw2 lobby
name of the first song?????
ah yes, the hidden pre-grunge "allison" hair metal songs we've heard rumors of...
Nah... Hard is the 2nd chorus in Would!!
So I made a big mistake
Try to see it once my way --> EEEEEEEEE
Where is king diamond?
OK but can we talk about Noah sebastian or Sam carter ?
Reminds me of pantera with those high pitch notes
Sebastián Bach is never mentioned yet could out sing them all.
He was absolutely the best vocalist of our Gen X
Dude could’ve sung just like Cornell if he wanted to. But he was searching for power elsewhere. And man did he find it or what?
layne was one of a kind😢
Name if the first song pls
What is the last song?
Whats the very last song? It doesnt say
the last one is feedback from the guitar
Was the first song Man in the box?
Yes
Got that dio sound
RIP LANE!! You had a gift!!
Wouldn’t a b# be a C?
Layne changed his style. In AIC he never hit notes like that. Guess he was trying to distance himself from his earlier glam-rockish style.
His voice was meant for that glam esq stuff. He pushed hard to sing low in AIC. That’s why a lot of guys who try to cover him, don’t have that grit. That’s what I think anyway. I’m no musician lol.
it's interesting what singers can do but never do because..well the song or genre doesn't call for it
