Frankie Knuckles was best known as the godfather of house, but that only scrapes the surface. Born in the Bronx, he grew up during the early days of disco and was a regular at The Loft and The Gallery
Frankie Knuckles, a modern American legend who tragically passed away in 2014, took us through his 40-year career, from disco in New York to the birth of house in Chicago and on to a lifetime in music in his lecture at RBMA Madrid 2011. This is the story of the house that Frankie built.

He cut his DJ teeth with Larry Levan before heading off to Chicago, where he helped shape and design The Warehouse, the club that birthed and named house music before it conquered the world in the late ’80s. While in Chicago, he also spent time recording some of the greatest music ever to bear the name house.

Frankie was a good man. I've never heard him be nasty or evil. And, of course, his music was perfect. RIP Frankie. See you on the big dance floor in the heavens.
Wow beautiful I met Frankie Knuckles at The Metropolis In The Flats.(Cleveland Ohio) the light guy & I carried his reel to reel up to the DJ booth. And Timmy the resident DJ and Frankie Knuckles and I. Went and had breakfast afterwards. At The Big Egg. Super wonderful person. God Rest His Soul.✨🙏🙏✨🙏🙏✨🙏🙏✨
Thank you for sharing your memory ☀️
A decade ago now and filmed 3 years before his passing. Interesting to hear him mention Luther Vandross. A lot if not all of his later work with Eric Kupper definitely has that same seal of quality that productions by people like Vandross and George Benson have. Hugely influential and clearly an incredibly nice guy as well. Love, respect and RIP✌️
Wow! Boggles the mind that the pioneers of HIP Hop and House music respectively came out of the slums of the South Bronx.
1:13:42-1:14:50 love what he says here!
"Its what you play"
i can't be the only one who wanted to hear the whole interview from the song Maybe 80-81
also, rest in peace Frankie
You're South African?
@@pakomolokoane794 lol yea I am
Ultimate expression and relevance regarding the history of this incredible music called House!!
What a boss. Gutted I never got to see him. Treasure your kerri chandlers, ron trents and louie vegas while you can. God bless Frankie ♥️
The Master. Listen to everything he has ever done. Way ahead of his time. Wish he was still here.
Why were his songs only played for 5 seconds? In the Marley Marl interview his songs played much longer
silla cable's in da House
Es lamentablemente muy triste 😢.fue un pionero en el house un gran hombre de talento 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾✨✨💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶🎶
Love it 50:45 We all miss you Frankie!💜
FK Always and FOREVER I love you we miss you dearly my friend
Love the information, much appreciated for curating it.🙏💥
Why everytime the music starts to play you guys edit it out. We want to hear his creations not be kept out loop. Fix that problem.
They are avoiding a copyright strike.
what a great guy...
Thanks for this!
31:02 When was the first time you heard someone refer to house music?
Maayybe 80-81
The thing that I love about franky is that he doesn´t talk like some stupid gangster.
44:36 - What went on there then? Lol
3000 views hahahaha almost a joke. Then those traktor djs believing the know history.
Exactly. I feel like the culture is dead in house and techno music.
A glitch in the matrix: @28:41
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What’s that 1st song that made him famous?
"Your Love" with Jamie Principle was an underground hit. but his first record with Virgin records was the whistle song to really blow up.
I'm gonna say that Chip E. is the "godfather of house", but Knuckles is definitely one of the brightest lights and major innovators.
Chip E??
Chip E. is shit man. Fuck off
dumb
Only Ron Hardy is worthy enough to take that crown from Knuckles. No bashing on Frankie, i know what he stands for, But Ronnie pushed boundaries WAY further than what Frankie did. So to me Ron Hardy has a little more edge than Frankie Knuckles. The Muzik Box was a stage for testing new "unheard of" material and became sort of a ruff territory in DJ and dance. Not just music, but the new drum machine stuff that was evolving. Ron took it on and took also the risk playing it. He had way more balls than Frankie on music exploration.
Niiiiiiice!
Why is the music taken out?

First of all time
this interviewer sucked... i may be wrong but i noticed the interviewer harboring this attitude of "ugh can we just get this over with".
