Thank you so much for this video. This is the only video I have found that answers this exact question. I previously had a Simrad go5 connected to the Mercury Gateway. I wanted to put my Helix 8 G3n in the console instead and did not know exactly which components it would require to read engine data. Since the Mercury smartcraft Gateway was already installed in the boat when I bought it, along with the backbone, it looks like I only need the Humminbird module which appears at 2:23 in this video. Thank you!
thank you so much for this video - I searched and searched and found no concise info on this - although I was looking at connecting to a Garmin. The engine half of it to the Gateway was what we are having trouble finding info about. I have a question - that engine harness data cable - they come with THREE connections from what I see, but you are only using two? And I assume a junction box between the data cable and the Gateway is not needed because you are running only one engine?
Thanks...Unfortunately I installed this 3 years ago and no longer have the same boat. I don't recall what the data cable came with. I did not need a junction box...omly what you see in the video and parts listing (in the description)
If Mercury VesselView Mobile is an option on your motor you can spare yourself all of this work and use bluetooth to your phone or tablet. Just plug the module into your motor: publications.brunswick.com/VesselView-Mobile-p/vv-mm.htm Lowrance and Simrad have really cool options like troll control and tow control that I hope Humminbird adds in the future through Vesselview Link. If they had that then I would for sure wire in my Solix.
Didn't finish my question .....2005 optimax 115.....is it possible to go lower than the factory idle rpm .....550 I believe....using troll control......want to pull spinners at 1 mph
Thanks for making this video. Helpful as no else really address this issue! I have an 2017 Optimax 250 and a Solix 15 Gen 2 with a backbone and Mercury gateway and cables to my Solix. I have an analog sensor in the fuel tank so I understand that consumption data is not available to me. I am getting the following information to my Solix, RPMs, Volts, SOG, Hours on motor. According to what I see on line, I should be getting engine trim, water in fuel, engine diagnostics, PSI, and motor temp, My guess is that the alerts will display if and when they occur but PSI and motor trim are critical as I am a bass fisherman. Any thoughts or should I have just got the SmartCraft module instead
Hi and thanks...I get the same info as you. The Solix will read what is coming through the NMEA backbone. You will have to check with Mercury to see how to get that data from the engine

Yes some of the wireless engine data sharing is amazing. Evinrude had it going as well but I guess that is done now

@@principleoutdoors8932 thanks. Appreciate your response
Great Video - Thank you - Is there a "Kit" or "Part's List" ?? I am a Helix Gen 3 MEGA unit owner.
Thanks Ricky...the parts list is in the description
I want to connect my 25hp mercury efi to my solix would all them cables fit or are they different on a optimax..
Hey James...you would have to ask Mercury that question. A 25HP may not output any data
