New viewer here - greetings from rainy England, where we are very mindful of how the valiant Poles saved our skin eighty years ago. Thank you for some of the best, most informative real-world reviews on the internet.
Thank you. My pleasure! (regarding the reviews) As far as valiant Poles are concerned, I'm pleased, proud, and at the same time somewhat surprised. I went to school with an English curriculum (textbooks from late 80s - early 90s), and I recall the chapter in the history book about Battle of England being titled "Britain's Finest Hour". There was little or no mention of the Polish input. I have no problem with that, and I don't hold a grudge against anyone, as history is usually written from the point of view of the country telling it. I rather found it amusing (even as a young teenager) that in Poland we were basically taught we (the Poles) won (sic!) the Battle of England, whereas the English have a somewhat different view :) Similarly, our national hero Kościuszko was described as a madman (maybe a milder term was used), who led a bunch of peasants armed with sickles and scythes against a professional army. Anyway, best regards from still somewhat sunny Poland!
@@MarekDrives my father knew a Polish fighter pilot, Darek Nowosielski, of 315 City of Deblin Squadron, who flew all the major Allied single-engine fighters and was renowned for his success in deflection shooting, but later became a lecturer at the University of Dundee, where my father studied and my grandfather taught. More recently, we got to know the grandson of the Battle of Britain ace Marian Pisarek, who was killed in action in 1942. We have not forgotten the brilliant, courageous Poles, nor will we ever forget!
@@papagen00 incorrect, the Jews were fleeing TO the UK to get away from the Nazis. I'm not saying antisemitism didn't exist here either, but it was far far worse in Germany, where it was institutionalised as law and public policy.
@@MarekDrives I've also recently been reading about the work the Poles did on cracking Enigma before the war. Apparently Churchill reckoned it saved Bletchley Park two years of fumbling blindly in the dark... I don't know if this country could have survived through the dark days of 1941-2 with the U-boats sinking so much of our merchant shipping without the ability to listen in on Nazi communications.
Hey Marek I love your channel and this was an excellent review. However, I actually work for Mercedes-Benz and the new GLS doesn’t have V6 engines. They’ve been replaced by inline 6s both petrol and diesel.
Yes, I realised that after posting. I'm so used to BMW being the inline 6, and MB being the V6 I can't get it out of my head. Also the engine cover looks V6ish :)
Thank you Marek for the car review and for a short lesson about animals xD! What a beast, this car offers a tramendous interior space indeed. I once drove in a previous model and oh boy, what a comfortable and relaxed ride it was! However I'm convinced that this type of cars aren't suitable for EU roads, you almost need a guidance car infront of you.
You should do something on the number of subscribers. Even if it takes marketing.. it's not fair after all these years to have 13k subscribers One of the problems for example I watched dozens of your videos and I found them on point however, I only subscribed today amazed that I haven't done it for so long.. Eke out the last possible ways to have more exposure and followers. Good luck
Thanks. I used to have a bi-lingual channel simply called Marek Drives, where I would post the reviews both in Polish and in English. That channel has 240k subscribers. However as the YT algorithm didn't like people watching only half the content, I decided to split the channels. This new one Marek Drives in English operates since the beginning of 2022.
A good friend of mine had several Range Rovers during the past 15 years. Last year he needed to replace another RR and Mercedes-Benz dealer offered him very special conditions for leasing of GLS in a previous body. 8 months later a friend of mine was ready to pay the fine for termination of lease earlier then in contract and run back to RR.
There is the Kia Telluride and the Hyundai Twin. They are 1/2 the price, but once you put it on the lift, you realize that it is just a big economy car. You get what you pay for. Nothing wrong with that, but they can in no way compare to the engineering and materials choice of this car.
Lovely vehicles. My friend has an earlier GL model in a plum red colour. This new model has many significant improvements but white colour just doesn't do it justice. I was under the impression that they were going to use a straight six diesel in these models instead of the old V6. Obviously not.
Do you think GLS rides and handles better than the big Range Rover HSE? I have driven both and found the RR wallows a bit too much (too much side-to-side motion).
It's a "wave" massage, whatever that means. I'd leave fisting for the back seat. Plenty of space for whatever one fancies. In Peugeot 5008 I think there was something like the "cat's paw" massage :)
a very nice car for cruising around in Dubai or in Almaty. Also quite suitable for plutocrats. For anything else, this is a clown car. Thanks for the good review!
i was lucky enough to be able to drive the X7 and the GLS back to back. The X7 is much better in every aspect. And the interior quality of the X7 is MUCH better the the GLS
now this is a real 7-seater (in terms of space; enormous)
At 7:14 you said V6. It's an inline 6

To me, the double irony about UK and Poland after WW2 is that Jews in both countries were actually fleeing to Germany because of rampant antisemitism.

why did he hate the Merc?
@@papagen00 Mainly due to build quality - plastic, leather, stitching are far from what he used to see in Ranges.
Rather repair RR than drive mercedes?
@@pikadkalsarid well he had no issues with RR, just normal maintenances
I have had same experience and your friend is right.
But on another part, Merc is better than RR about engine, driving comfort and maneuverability.
I think if Kia/Hyundai would try to build a competitor for this car, it would probably run rings around it.
Gurdun Rumsuy good joke.

"...run rings around it." Delusional. Thanks for the laugh.
Panie, świetnie mówisz po niemiecku!!!
I’ve seen this a few days ago with rattling suspension.
The Diesel is not a V6, its an Inline-6.

Yes, everyone has been telling me I know shit :)
My bad.
Marek Drives, your reviews are among the best!
Ogromna poprawa angielskiego, brawo!
Still awaiting GLS580e phev version ..whats the holdup ? Let me guess battery supply ? LG Chem Wroclaw cant keep up ?
I think it’s an in-line six
GLS or X7 which one do you think is best Marek?
Czy tryb offroad ma jakieś opcje typu mud, snow, sand ?czy jest ogólnie do wszystkich nawierzchni?

There's a straight 6 petrol in E53.
I checked, you are right. The new diesel is also an inline 6.

Yeah, I'm H O T…hot on this kind of thing. LOL
It's a inline 6.

No idea. I haven't driven the big Range.
Apropos barn on wheels: are you sure that the ringing during parking manouvering isn’t there for warning the peasants when reversing...
Lol, it's a single metallic bang.
In a couple (or in a year) this SUV will be choice for people with questionable incomes. This valid mostly in Eastern Europe.
In Polish is there really an option for a Fisting Massage? This could be somewhat distracting whilst driving!

I also thought this is going to be too much, but once you start driving it, everything falls into place.
@@MarekDrives but have you tried driving it into a European parking garage?
It will park itself (eventually - BMW has a much better self parking feature).
Are you sure the engines are V6? I thought they were straight 6s now.
Yeah, it's inline. My mistake.
I6 not V6
dlaczego nie po polsku?
BMW X7 so much better than a GLS. Ride, handling and performance top notch! Fit and finish much better also, especially interior.
I feel the X7's interior quality and looks are better too. The GLS doesn't look much better than the older Gen GLS
The X7 looks absolutely vile. The last nice-looking BMW SUV was the E70 X5.
Richard Harrold Your opinion. What do you drive?
@@pjmoody a BMW E66 760Li and various E39s. I'm a once-loyal but severely disillusioned BMW fanboy.

So you work at a BMW dealership? How's the sales?
I think I like the Mercedes couch feel more. Very relaxing.
