Hi everyone. Obviously it was a mistake to put corrections at the top of the video. So many people were SO adamant that I do them if I move to Mondays that I decided to do it up top. I hear you about the placement and I'll move it to a different part of the show. I do ask though, please, give me room to experiment and try new things. This is my passion and my livelihood and I'm just trying to balance both of those things. 95% of the numbers reported on the show are basically the same today as they would be tomorrow. In making changes, I'll also do things that need some tweaking. Please, please, just give me the space and time to work things out. Thanks.
Don't sweat the complainers, whiners or haters. The hard work and deliberative tweaks are greatly appreciated by your sane audience. Btw, I loved big time your Kong/Godzilla mega ranking video and I look forward to more mega ranking videos when you find time. Brilliant channel and so fun and valuable. 👊
thank you for your hard work Dan! I actually might be one of the few that think at least experimenting with Mondays is a good idea. As much as I love the accurate numbers, I would love more to see your channel grow so you can have an even more successful life from your videos. The overall quality isn’t changing and that’s what I think is important to maintain your long term audience. I appreciate how quickly you respond to taking viewer feedback onboard. Most other RUclips channel audiences aren’t so lucky.
People will always complain, and the idea of changing the established order really freaks some individuals out. I really admire your work! Hope moving the chart to Monday will bring the desirable outcome 🤞
Dan...... You are literally the only person on RUclips that goes this in Depth about Box-office. That too on a weekly basis.
Almost no one is doing what you're doing or atleast to the level you are doing.
So you do whatever you have to do knowing that despite whatever small mistakes you might make you are still doing way more than anyone else in this particular niche.
You're the best Dan: nearly every week there's an interesting extra chart (this week the one with the earliest 100M opening in the IS). Do not apologise too much and experiment a little bit, if you want!! The quality of your videos is, in the end, always very high
Who is complaining about the insane amount of work Dan puts into these videos? Like no one else does this. Please put some respect on his name
Yes, I agree. He sheds some light on this seemingly desperate industry.
A. Confusing that people have such an issue with putting the corrections at the top of the show. They're about the previous week, so that seems like the logical place.
B. Wild to me that people get so upset about the structure when you break everything into segments so if they didn't want to watch it, you make it SO easy to skip it.
C. For me, I don't care how you format the show as long as you still enjoy making it. I'm here for you and the box office info. You're happy, I'm happy.
Just adding my voice to say. I don't have a problem with what your doing Dan. You need to try things out. Personally don't care when/how you do corrections so long as you do them 👍
13:20 Furiosa and Garfield...together they ride across the desert on a crazy custom vehicle in search of lasagna!
Just wanted to let you know that I'll be watching the show regardless of when it comes out and how it's structured. I hope you're able to find a way to grow it like you want! 😊
25:12 Don't worry Dan.
It is a tough name to say, to the point that one of the promo materials for the movie was just non natives trying to say the name.
It's also how the movie starts.
"Naatil evideya?"
He actually did pretty well
It would be cool to see a chart like the Days Until First $100 million opener but include the longest amount of time since the last $100 million opener rather than just the days since January 1st
Yeah I think The Marvels of all movies had the biggest opening weekend between Barbenheimer and Dune Part 2 IIRC. Could be wrong of course, but I think that also makes Planet of the Apes Disney’s highest opening weekend since Indiana Jones.
Also wow Disney sure owns a lot of IP’s! And frankly it looks like they’ll recover somewhat this year.
Agreed!
My son has the attention span of a goldfish. He asked me to go to IF, but now he's already moved on to Garfield. He doesn't even know anything about Garfield. He just loves cats!
"IF" at least has Ryan Reynolds, so it won't be a complete waste of money for you.
Garfield is fun. I haven't seen IF yet.
well, that's not true. He knows one thing about Garfield, that he's a cat! 😅
I think it depends on your kid. I took my 5 y.o. to see 'If' and she was completely bored until one of the animated IF character appeared, that was like 30 minutes into the film before that happened. She liked it alright, told me afterwards she thought it was good but I have a feeling if we saw Garfield where it's setting is fully animated, she'd be more invested.
For example my child adores the Mario brothers animated film so she might just be more of a fan of immersive fully animated films like that.
It is hard for me to imagine kids not knowing who Garfield is. But dang I guess that means Im aging.
I would die laughing if we somehow got corrections made to the "Box Office Flashback" portion of the show.
Dan should ask Seth Meyers for tips, should this ever be necessary.
The theme for this weekend: orange
Ghostbusters FE is over $200M Worldwide now, but for some reason they've stopped tracking international box office. It's still stuck at $87M from last week. I thought maybe it was pulled, but its still playing in like 20 international markets.
That is weird. Usually if a film is still thriving. Hm 🤔
Love the show and don’t care at all about estimates or corrections being a part of it, just love tuning in every week to get that box office breakdown. Thanks Dan!
Dan, you do amazing work. Every week I come back to your shows and enjoy them. Take your time, and don't allow the frustrated viewers knock you. You're killin it dawg
If I may, Dan, I’m thinking IF performs like Dora and the Lost City of Gold while Garfield performs like Angry Birds Movie 2, since both sets of films were released a week apart and because both sets of movies were from the same studios (Paramount and Sony).
Family films can co-exist with each other.
I look forward to your next streaming charts with Madam Web being #1 on Netflix
It’s Webbin’ time!
I work at Buc-ees and was jumpscared by that Buc-ees cup or figure, whatever it was on the shelf. He is haunting me. I can't escape the buc 😂
LMAO
Buc-ees is an experience
I can barely see that
Ted Nivison wants to know your location
I don't mind the corrections at all personally, but I'd prefer if they were later in the video. I'm much more interested in the current weekend's top 5 than the previous weekend's (and I imagine most others are too) when I come to these videos, so I think it makes much more sense to put those first.
I feel similarly, especially considering Dan wants to draw in new viewers, it doesn’t make sense to open the video with old news - which negates the purpose of moving the show to Monday.
Okay. I'm still trying things out, this is the first week I had corrections. People seemed so adamant that I do them that I thought they should go first. It seems I was wrong. I'm still experimenting.
You're the best, Dan 👍 love your show
@@DanMurrellMovies There’s no right or wrong when you’re creating a show and nothing will ever be perfect! We all appreciate how much you value your audience :)
Mm personally I prefer finishing off the previous week. I think whatever you do will work better for some, worse for others. Just try things out and may e once you have tried a few options, if you want to know what the community thinks, make a survey?
I’m so glad to see Godzilla staying in the top 10. I know this is its last week of that but it’s still nice to see it lasted that long.
I personally think Boy Kills World is really underrated, it's honesty one of my favorite movies this year.
Agree
The trailer looked awful
Studio executives wish that it was 2015, when a sequel to a teen drama that only costs about as much as it takes to hire the actors debuted with $69M (about twice the shooting budget, per Wikipedia).
I argue IF performed in line with expectations and that’s why a $35M OW (20X it’s Thursday night $1.75M numbers) is good for a $110M movie, especially since it’s A CinemaScore means it’ll have legs.
Wish cinephiles on Twitter would understand that the real world does not reflect them and that general audiences still love Ryan Reynolds.
I’d agree. It’s also being marketed as ‘family’ movie and prolly an offset to Garfield. Furiosa opens this weekend too so that’s for the adults. The families will keep the legs going for IF until a bigger family movie comes out
There is no way If leaves theaters profitable. It's break even is over $200 Million. Maybe if it was released in Jan it could slowly make money over a month or two but this Summer movie season is WAY to competitive. You have Furiosa and Garfield this week and then Bad Boys 4 & Inside Out 2 right after.
If will be on digital by the end of June and Streaming by July gaurenteed.
@@uwaeliteprowrestling9570 I think it might break even though
I don't think Ryan Reynolds can sell this movie. General audiences only like Deadpool Ryan Reynolds.
To me it screams big movie on streaming.
What people expected? 35M opening for this seems right
According to The Numbers: "While hitting $55 million this weekend was perhaps an ambitious target (and our model’s figure was somewhat higher than general industry expectations), something over $40 million seemed very likely."
I always look forward to these videos and i’m finally early for once. thanks for all the work you do, Dan!
Great video Dan!
Thanks Dan!
Caught Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes yesterday. A worthy "start" to the summer season for me. It'll pick up for me this weekend with Furiosa and I Saw the TV Glow.
Thanks for the video dan
Good work as always Dan!
Thanks Dan. I really appreciate all that you do, but charts is my favorite thing on RUclips. I know it’s not easy to do, but I’m glad you do it.
I was the youngest person at the Planet of the apes afternoon screening (I'm 26, most of the audience were gray-haired). At the worthington theater (though I wanted to see The Fall Guy, got a little late for that.)
There was a bunch of teenagers at mine and there was definitely a variety of ages at mine.
There was a wide variety of ages at mine (16:45 on a Saturday), from a couple of quite young (10ish?) kids with their parents (who were very well behaved), to two young teens/tweens (who kept rushing in and out, moved seats several times before the start and ate a lot of food) to people my age (41) or older.
@KeithFraser82 3:45 on Saturday weirdly
Also, less than 10 people (All in second to back and third to back.)
Thank you for all your hard work. I appreciate the return and upkeep of the 365 day calendar.
I've seen a hundred times more comments talking about how so many people were complaining about corrections, than I have actual comments complaining about corrections
I think the reason why people aren't going to the movies is because people just don't have the money. Inflation is killing me, and I have to be even more choosier with recreational activities, especially movies. I really want to go see Furiosa, but I currently don't know if that's in my budget at the moment.
so glad to see you again
I still wear an Age of Ultron T-shirt. It was red, apparently 9 years ago, but has faded to pink. *Thank You Dan, Good Job (I prefer Tuesdays).
Dan, you are completely allowed to experiment with the show. I love how much work you put into these videos. I look forward to them every week - estimates or not!
Thanks Dan and also thanks for the heads up about Uncut Gems on Wednesday I’m looking forward to it!
Whether it’s Monday or Tuesday I always look forward to your chart videos Dan! Thanks so much for all the hard work! 😊
Hey Dan! Just adding to the comments that I love your stuff and keep up the great work. Honestly I love seeing these on Mondays when the weekend results are the freshest so a good change for me overall! Hope it grows the channel even more!
This is a fantastic show Dan, thanks for doing so much for us every week, you’re doing a great job
Good work Dan.
Thanks
Can we get another Friends From Work podcast? Even if it’s you, Spencer and Joe talking about groceries or cleaning supplies or whatever.
It’s Victoria Day here in Canada so it felt like Sunday. So imagine my delighted surprise when Charts with Dan comes out while I’m chilling on my day off. 😂
Same here! Bonus!
Thank you for the charts Dan! Also, thank you for the update on last week's numbers. Really surprised by IF's opening. I really thought it would open bigger. Yes, so-so summer indeed. Looking forward to seeing what Furiosa's numbers are on Tuesday. Have an awesome Memorial Day Weekend!
I think this is great
I can't wait to see Furiosa this Thursday
I listen to your show in the car using YMusic every week. I know it doesn't make much sense to put this out in audio form since it relies on charts and graphics but I've been enjoying it that way.
Dan, I just want to say that you're killing it. I truly appreciate the dedication & you doing your due diligence the best that you can.
No notes; just want to say that I think you're awesome & however you want to try the show is okay with me.
Thanks for keeping it fair. You don't try, YOU DO.
The First Omen opening below Night Swim and The Strangers chapter 1 is my villain origin story.
The masses love trash horror cause it’s easier to digest unfortunately.
lmaoooo im dying
Hey Dan
Long time follower
Had a question?
Where is a good place to acquire a list of info on movie release dates
You’re doing fantastic! Don’t mind those people complaining
Thanks, Dan! Reading the comments I feel a lot of people have the Monday grumps 🙄. I ❤️your box office break down and all the nerdy stats 😂. It’s your show and I’m here for all the experiments you want to do. Your box office breakdown is the only one I trust to be free of hyperbole. Love your reviews too
I’m wondering if Garfield will open over Furiosa? I’m really curious 👀
Dan, I hope you're as interested as me in Long Legs! If you do a review when it comes out I'd like to know your take on its marketing, it's been a wild ride and I'm obsessed! Thanks for your videos Dan, love'em!
I would love to see what the top five memorial day openings would look like adjusted for inflation but that might be really hard
25:10 OMG the pop i made when I heard my native language, Malayalam, make it to Charts with Dan. Don't worry about the pronounciation, even some of us wouldn't nail it 😅
If I go back in time I should see fury road in theaters but now I've finally going to see Furiosa in Dolby cinema on AMC next Tuesday
Bold strategy to make money by dropping 'The Fall Guy' onto digital a couple of weeks after it's theatrical release. Let's see if it pays off for them.
30:23 Pirates At Worlds End is a great movie!
That’s so sad about boy kills the world my husband and I actually went and saw it in the theater and we were the only two in the theater and it was being shown at like the very back of the building. It was such a good movie though a lot of fun and a better story than I thought it would be.
Actual numbers show looks more fun but if this gets you more audience, sure...cool video!
I prefer the actuals on Tuesdays, but its not a huge deal for me, and im open to you trying the different stuff. I get it if it gets nore views and you make a better income by doing it on Mondays so it doesn't really bother me either way
Love the show Dan! Any chance you’d consider doing a Planet of the Apes ranking?
Tomorrow I'm going to see I Saw the TV Glow at AMC theater which I'm happy is playing in my nearest AMC theater and kick off Pride Month which is on next month
Dan - you did pretty well with the Malayalam movie
IF being called Blue and Company is funnier given one of the main characters in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is named Blu
In case you havent thought of it yet, doing corrections when they organically come up might work. Once one chart needs a correction, then you can just run through all the corrections quickly, and move on. Also, long time fan, and you're doing great work! I'll watch irregardless.
I kind of wish there was standard deviation shading for the average lines. Getting within that shading would show that we might be closer to recovery than it looks with just an average.
32:10 In the UK at least, Hit Man is the next free cinema ticket movie on the MUBI service (other streaming services and ticket services are available, possibly not on one platform).
If I remember right from last week, Ghostbusters was in the Top 10 for 7 weeks. So, ahead of One Love in the graphic at 11:25. Not to be a pain, but I have to stick up for movies about ghosts ;)
Currently slated for memorial weekend 2025 is mission impossible dead reckoning part 2. So I'm guessing that chart stays the same at least until mandalorian & grogu in 2026.
Yeh much better with the escap for actual rather than what feel like forever. ❤❤❤😂👍
I don't mind the corrections at the start but that's because I'm a regular. It might feel weirder for someone who watches casually or for the first time.
Wonder if splitting the show into 2 might work -- a "preview" show with only the estimates on Monday and a longer breakdown with corrections on Tuesday. Would that make sense?
I think that would cannibalize viewership for both shows. I've heard loud and clear that people aren't fans of the corrections at the top and will adjust.
Liked the video simply for your incredible effort in pronouncing that Indian film's name. I was very impressed lol
I wonder if IF could pull an Elemental in terms of being a well like movie by audiences with good box office legs, despite a lackluster opening.
Dan, could you do a list for the top 20 most profitable movies of the last ten years? Please 🙏
Love Richard linklaters movies. Will definitely check out the hitman
I haven't seen IF, but I'm one of the people who compare it to "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends". I mean there's a main character named Blue (Bloo)!!!
Scream 7 will probably have the top opening weekend in the horror genre for next year. That's my prediction. It starts filming in September of this year.
I would love to see The Road to Recovery chart to show inflation adjusted. That would be interesting.
For those not in the know, family movies tend to have better Cinemascores. It's how you get stuff like Incredibles 2 with an A+, the remake of The Lion King with an A, Wish and Ghost Dad with an A-, The Emoji Movie with a B, and both Baby Geniuses movies with a B-. Cinemascore is more of a measure of how mainstream-friendly a movie is than anything.
So its a "how well it kept my kids quiet for 2hrs - thank the lord, sweet baby jesus!"
@@veronicamaine3813 For family movies pretty much. Also forgot more examples: the live-action Grinch movie with an A- and The Cat in the Hat with a B-.
Hey Dan, I loved the sequence showing the amount of time until a 100M grosser for every year, but it really made me wonder the longest streaks between 2 100M openers irregardless of year. Since our last 100M opener goes all the way back to Barbie in July. Obviously there will be a 2 year gap during Covid, but after that i feel like we have to go back more than a decade to have anything like this current streak.
I will not tolerate this Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End slander.
Also The Fall Guy has dropped on VOD today. It's crazy how fast studios these things on streaming now. I literally didn't go see it because I knew it'd be on digital within weeks.
I’m intrigued to see how IF holds up against Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga & The Garfield Movie this week!
Very interesting chart for those $100 million+ openers. A lot of the stuff for the box office is very vibes based and I remember after Barbenheimer was such a clear cut success it took a few months for my box office optimistic to die down. If Deadpool 3 had made its May release date, I think the vibes would have been better since we'd have one clear cut $100+ million opener success to look at. It is quite discouraging that the only runaway success we've had in 2024 is Dune 2.
Dune part 2 jumped from worldwide $710 to $859 million in one week… this late in the run seems strange. Anyone know what happened there?
I'm really hoping Furiosa does well next week. I loved Fury Road and Furiosa is getting pretty good reviews. It is a movie I've been excited about since it was announced.
There is something depressing about the summer box office not doing well. I'm old enough to remember other times most movies released did not perform (before the pandemic) and it somehow made the summer feel sad. I know that the box office is doing badly due to a combination of not very good offerings and high ticket prices and that contributes to the depressing nature of a bad summer box office.
An info about if strategy in France
They decided to do the realse only in french. 0 theatres in paris where showing the movie English with french sub. As a result most of my Friends who wanted to see it and english kid leaving in France (more than you think)
Shocking news Re: IF.
It’s really interesting with the current state of moviegoing being iffy and this summer season going to a slow start to start wondering if the number of people who died from COVID, the number of people left disabled by Long COVID who cannot attend movie theaters, and the after effects of the COVID pandemic of switching to streaming more often and going to lesser movies due to inflation & money issues are significant factors to this movie year and future years ahead.
hey Dan; the list 'how many days until a 100k release', why not count from the last 100k release, instead of the beginning of the year?
Because I wanted to do the chart that way. January 1st seemed like a natural box office reset.
@@DanMurrellMovies fair enoug😘 thanks for all your wonderful charts over the years!
I would love to know how the box office is performing compared to previous decades - not just 2015-2019, which seem to be the peak of the Hollywood franchise.
As far as the updated numbers, do you Dan! It’s your show and these complainers should pipe down and act less entitled when it comes to FREE content.
I dont see what the big deal about correction is. Just skip to the chapter you want
I am a palled that The Fall Guy is already moving to streaming, I thought it had a chance to be a grower!
You got the Godzilla number wrong on the annual chart. It was 194,400,000.
Garfield is gonna be big. I was very skeptical, but when scrolling through Disney+ to put on a lunch movie for my summer-brained fourth graders, they all clamored to watch Garfield (the Bill Murray one). I can only assume they either thought it was the new one or there has been some kind of Garfield renaissance. Either way, the young audience is there for it.
(Having already suffered through the Bill Murray version once, I convinced them to pick Zootopia instead)
What do you mean by "deadly group" of Pirates 3, along with Indiana Jones 4 and X-Men 3? Because I'll defend Pirates 3 always.
I wish you said what the last 100 million openner was and how long its been
