Old days?!?!?! I call this "every Sunday weather permitting"!!! Did my Diesel and Cox apprenticeship decades ago (still have the scars) good to see the noisy and smellies still getting some love 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It sure is still to this day my favourite way to fly. I always bring one or two glow powered aircraft and a gas powered aircraft. Very rarely do I fly one of my electrics. I just find glow so much more convenient. File the tank fly 10 minutes. Land top up the tank and fly again and repeat.
This brings back memories of when I was a little boy in Germany in the 80s. My dad would sometimes take me to the local flying field on Sundays and we'd watch the whole day.
Another season of fun and flying for you, and building for me! I love that old plane of Ron's and the fact that he just flies it without worrying about how it looks.
I love your channel. I am a big fan of Ron and Bill. Tell them hi from the US. Your running commentary during the flights is hilarious. Keep up the good work.
These old planes are beautiful, the sound itself is worth of million words! Also I am so impressed by the pilots, I can't see my 2 channel wing from 100 meters away :D Not even talking about controlling it...
I'm envious! I have to make the effort to go and find some space to fly my foamies! ☺ . Thanks you, you blooming lovely blokes. (Always glad when you win all of Botgrinders prizes!) Fook over regulation.
Hi Bruce and Ron, I just like Ron's old plane it reminds me of my old Headmaster that I learned on back in the 70s, but we had to run a return hose to the fuel jug so we don't spill fuel. Don't you just have to love the RunCam Thumb. I do, I don't have to use my googles video anymore. Thanks again for the video and have a great week.
Ron is no Tim but he brings it back alive. Looks like a lot of sink, but god landings....Its amazing what will still fly even though, the old saying (made it up 5m ago) it may not look newish but hell it still works.
I loved Ron's flight with that "old" slightly beaten up Nitro plane. That brings back so many memories and smells of Nitro Methane and Castor Oil and cleaning the residue off my XCELL 50 Heli. Thanks Bruce for posting this and slightly harrassing an old man while he's trying to fuel his model plane. :-)
I remember in the 70s flying with a German club in Sundays with my dad. The wives were crocheting and cooking and the men were drinking beer and flying all day. I was only eleven and we couldn't speak a lick of German but my mom who is would translate when she could but the rest was the love of flying
As a kid I used to buy diesel and glow fuel in glass bottles from the hobby shop. I can't see anyone being allowed to sell such things in glass bottles these days. But we were much tougher back then :-)
I hate being a battery slave, I miss my nito fueled flying things, you could fly as much as you wanted any time you like, no worries of your house buning down either.
Although I never saw any Simprop gear I do remember it. I know that in the UK, Mainstream was the agent for Simprop and I had a Mainstream single-channel RC set at one time. Unfortunately Mainstream went bust. Ah... happy days! :-)
We won't know until the votes are counted. It will either be a very good choice or an utter disaster, depending on which of the two candidates is successful.
@@xjet "I reject the premise of your answer" Hahaha. Sounded like a bit of a politician's reply - hope you're not going to the dark side Bruce! The reality is as well, is that even if you get a good mayor, the council members as a whole can be @#%^. Plus the bureaucracy behind them too. Oh well, let's go flying and enjoy life. All the best Bruce.
the more time passes the more I appreciate Ron with his simplicity and his very particular sense of humor .....

Great to see at least one PROPER RC aircraft still lives on the Shakeys!!
That brings back memories, I miss the sound and smell of nitro motors
Ah good old nitro. Love the sound and smell of a glow engine.
Old day?? To this day it’s still my favourite way to recharge my airplanes. I fly electric, glow and gasoline. And by far my favourite is still glow!
Ah a bit of piston power for a change good on you Ron.
Rons plane is so bloody cool, so old and battered but just keeps going! .....like us lol
Yep, and it leaks profusely... just like us :-)
@@xjet haha :)
I hope you ladies will be visiting us at some stage over the summer. We miss you!
@@xjet second that, it's been a while.
@@xjet Im sure we will Bruce its long overdue :)
I never could get gas planes to work. Gave up hobby for 20yrs until electrics came along. Been hooked ever since!

Ron always makes me smile!
A beautiful day!
Magnolia, must be spring has sprung. 😊

All that noise in the background.
Bloody birds squawking and getting in the way of Ron's ICE engine singing it's heart out!
It was a love, and hate relationship in the old days, bought tears of fluid running everywhere
Looks like a Avistar, had two of them back in the old post trainer days. Great airframe.
The joys of filling fuel tank up to find you’ve filled the fuselage up as the pipe has come off 😂
You have no right to personally attack me in this way. Lmfao
xjet, i only started flying about 2 months ago now but absolutly love your content. Thank you for all the grief you give ron and the entertainment
Glad you like it.. stay tuned... lots more to come! :-)
Crazy bird in the background protesting Ron's flying got a laugh out of me

Good stuff! Thank you for sharing!
If you go back a few more weeks from when Ron got that plane, you didn't even need liquid electricity, because gravity hadn't been invented.
hahahah
I love the smell of nitro in the morning! It brings back memories.. Great video. Thank you.

Great video with Ron.
you should be flying somo old school IC airplane. we would enjoy it . get a F3A from 80's

Those airplanes were fantastic! They were complicated as heck, but still...
Anyway, thanks for sharing, Bruce! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
" Burn off the excess " laughed so hard ! 🤣
Brits and their smartass sense of humor... I love it.
Love that the plane is taped right in the middle like an old pair of nerd glasses lololol
Nothing quite like the sound of a 2 stroke screaming through the air, plus you know when it’s out of juice, unlike an electric motor lol.
Batteries used to cry in the old days. It's not a spill.
Rons white and green plane looks like a Sig cadet... I had a Sig Cadet 60, but then again I think everyone had one at one time...
.......I love the smell of nitro in the morning.
I love how magpies just holler and scream and act dramatic 🦅
Still have my methanol powered model. I should get it out again one day.
Ron needs a catcher on that plane if he's going to be crossing the grass so much.
Ron only uses right wings.
Keep 'm flyin. E-planes are kids toys. Nitro for old boys ;-)
I remember buying the silver cans of fuel knowing it was going to power my little engine.
This is what sparked my interest in Part 103 ultralights!
As a kid I used to buy diesel and glow fuel in glass bottles from the hobby shop. I can't see anyone being allowed to sell such things in glass bottles these days. But we were much tougher back then :-)
I still "charge" some of my planes that way 😉
The one disappointing thing about those old 2 stroke motors would have to be cleaning up after flying lol.
I hate being a battery slave, I miss my nito fueled flying things, you could fly as much as you wanted any time you like, no worries of your house buning down either.
Ah yes ,I remember the smell!!
I think the propeller must be out of balance, because of all that noise coming from that plane. :)
Blue nitro, cool, we only have red here, lol
You live in a different matrix :-D
Is that a Sig Kadet LT40? That was my first plane as a young kid, I still have it in my shed, hoping to put floats on it.
I think it's a Kyosho Camalto
How long can it fly vs electric of similar power?
bruce did you get alpha simprop radio gear down under . think they used diac battery packs ? must be 40 odd years ago at least
Although I never saw any Simprop gear I do remember it. I know that in the UK, Mainstream was the agent for Simprop and I had a Mainstream single-channel RC set at one time. Unfortunately Mainstream went bust. Ah... happy days! :-)
Is it true the output of those engines was measured in mousepower?
No, the average .46-sized nitro/glow engine produced the equivalent of over 1,000 watts.
What do you mean "old days", that's me today.
Wet electricity is BLUE! Who'd have thought that? 🤔 😲⚠️😳
how many ccs is it and is it running on kerosene?
8cc and it runs on methanol
@@xjet cool, thanks
Who is going to be your new mayor from today Bruce? Any chance it will be someone that would actually support your views on making Tokoroa better?

Rons engine dint sound too good when he flew it think he needs to look at it sounds like it had a bit of a squark on the first flight bruce 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahah!
What do you mean "old days"? People still fly nitro... 90% of my planes are nitro.
The electricity in those wasn't as good a lipos though, sometimes thr motors didn't want to run :-P
😂
