Cool! We (2 adults, 2 kids) visited the same places as you guys on Midsummer eve and almost the rest of that weekend. On Friday lunch time, at 1-2 pm, we went to Smakbyn and I had the same Entrecoté dish which was excellent as you mentioned (though not served on a wooden plate but on a regular plate). I was filming and photographing the raising of the midsommarstång or the midsummer pole from that small cliff behing the tent that served ´Ålands pannkaka´ and ´makkara´. I just went through my pictures that I took from that cliff and could notice you standing there in several pics, extra cool! On Saturday we headed to the northern part of the Åland as you guys and went also to Havsvidden although we didn´t stayed there, just looked around and then we visited Getaberget. On the top of that ´mountain´ there is a restaurant called Soltuna which serves excellent ´Vitlöksbiff`, garlic steak, with a good view :) On Sunday we also visited this Åland Maritime Museum before we had to leave back to Turku by ferry. To me Åland is just THE place to visit on Midsummer and with kids there are lots and lots to do.
Hi Dave! I've been dating British guy for little while now and I was wondering if you had any tips to share about possible culture shock considering that you and Kat are pros in this subject? I'm dragging him to Finland at August and he doesn't really know anything about the country. :D
i´d say that you should come back to Åland for a few days or even a week, there is so much to see on Åland and in the Archipelago. there are after all 16 municipalities....
I had a summer bucket list. Then my dishwasher decided to drip water all over my kitchen and now I'm looking forward for a fun 6 weeks of drying the kitchen floor!
So cool to see that you like football because life is a part of foootball and all other stuff is secondary ;) 'It's coming home' which is a nice thing to see for you english blokes enjoying the game but it's still not going to happen sorry Davey... So have you done any sports yourself? Apparently some fishing in Finland but i recommend that you do some pro guided tours if you really like to catch that +10kg pike. Also i would love to see you catch some salmon in rivers of lappland or mayby some open sea trolling in archipelago area. I also challenge you to do WRC event Jyväskylä area in end of july :) Thats the real spirit of finns pursuing their dreams. Heroes are made in Finnish woods! I really like the content your putting on here. Cheers Dave and try some real fresh mustamakkara from Tapola while your in Tampere region!
You know you're a true ålänning when you recognize every last part of the road and all the stops! Been on the road to havsvidden probably a thousand times on the way to the cottage, really beautiful ☺
Speaking of Åland: you probably might be interested in a song from the 1850s called "Oolannin sota" (The War of Åland). It tells the story of how the British Navy, as part of the Crimean War, came to Åland and bombed Bomarsund.
My mom was born in Geta. I've been there several times...all during MidSummer. My son owns land (Pellas. House was built in 1604)in Geta. I refer to Geta...as the Land time forgot. Paradise. 🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽🇦🇽
I SEE FLARES TOOO, WHAT IS HAPPENING??? I'm liking the music too, v,good choice. And HAPPY ANNIVERSARYY!! I'd love to go on a trip with you two someday
That Ilta Sanomaat article was a load of sensationalist bullshit, they cut out all the good things the people they interviewed had to say about Åland, no place is perfect, but overall we treat everyone equally, although if you do not speak a lick of swedish or english, you might struggle a little bit, but most people here know finnish, and in the service indusrtry, most employers demand that their employees know finnish
You should, it's absolutely gorgeous and amazing in the summertime, no other place like it! And since you seem to be quite fluent in english, you should have no problems languagewise either!
Loved the video!! Just a shame to look in the comments and see Finnish people talk so much shit about their fellow citizens and this beautiful island...
Good video. Sorry I press the thumb two or three times, I only like to show that it is soooooo interesting video. Thumb did not understand that. BUT always i like Your and Your Fiance´s videos. Have a nice life and I will go to waiting next video to my cave.
I was There aswell at midsummer and I was going to go to that midsummer tradition but I stayed in the hotel and watched footy and didn't get to see you...fak
Ålanders love to be under Finnish rule because they are autonomous. Under Swedish rule they would just be a part of Sweden.
Still they where under swedish controll even before sweden where created

The Amazing Average haha that's so cool!! 😄😄
We went to Åland on a class trip this early summer right before summer holidays IT WAS SO NICE THERE!
The binoculars in Getabergen works maybe once every ten times a coin is put in it. In my 19 years on the islands I have looked through them once.

Nice video, welcome back.
We were in the same house at Havsvidden, i saw you one night when you went back to your room. I was outside smoking. I realised too late it was you 😣😣
Why am I questioning Daves driving skills in Finland?
Wow! Impressed by your Swedish skills! Great video!👍🏼☺️

Just fyi. If you ever talk to a finn about åland, refer to it as ahvenanmaa. More natural
That destination looks really good!
I was the kid how scream "dave" in 4:21

I have wanted to visit Åland for quite some time, downside is that I have heard that they don't like finnish ppl at all :P maybe that is not true?
That Ilta Sanomaat article was a load of sensationalist bullshit, they cut out all the good things the people they interviewed had to say about Åland, no place is perfect, but overall we treat everyone equally, although if you do not speak a lick of swedish or english, you might struggle a little bit, but most people here know finnish, and in the service indusrtry, most employers demand that their employees know finnish
Good to hear mate! Maybe I will visit there this summer, yea I kinda knew those rumours were just bs anyways.
You should, it's absolutely gorgeous and amazing in the summertime, no other place like it! And since you seem to be quite fluent in english, you should have no problems languagewise either!
I live about 30 km from Kastelholms slott :)

Nice that you visited Åland. :) Saw that you were around my corner in Geta also :) You should visit during summer to see Åland from it´s best. =)
I have actually done a video from there myself.🙂 It’s Finnish so you might not understand much, but yeah.😅

I was There aswell at midsummer and I was going to go to that midsummer tradition but I stayed in the hotel and watched footy and didn't get to see you...fak
Mä näin sinut siellä amorellalla! Oli siistii😎
Perkele
Only reason why we haven't given Åland to Sweden is for military reasons.
And because you cant do it without the permission of the government of Åland
Eka dislike
I hate Viking line
Ojnej synd att jag inte visste att ni var här
