- We're joining experienced carp angler Erik Taylor at his home lake to learn all about carp fishing. This is our first time specifically targeting carp, and we're excited to learn all about the gear and tactics that are used, as well as to fight and land our first carp on purpose! From rod holders to bait alarms, and dough balls to artificial corn there sure is a lot to learn about catching carp!

My step daughter caught her first carp as well as the first I’ve ever targeted with corn in a neighborhood pond in Louisville the fish was about 20 lbs but the look on her face was better than any fish I could ever catch
Lemme tell you something ima ameture fisherman and I catch a ton of carp at my local pond with just corn all I use is a slider with a small weight a swivel and a leader line and I catch them all day my biggest is a 23 inch carp and boy they fight like crazy! This is the most fun I’ve had in a while wow I loveeeee fishing!
What size hook ? I have a medium rod 7ft and 20 lb line. Haven’t caught shit and have been seeing huge carp on the pond near my house for a while
@@miamibeach40 a smaller hook I believe a size 4 hook and just canned corn from Walmart ima start a RUclips channel soon whenever I get a camera and learn how to edit videos but my local pond is literally filled with small catfish and tons of carp from 10-25 inches they fight so deng hard I’ve had a couple fish fight me for 5-7 minutes just peeling my drag lol it’s literally so fun but these suckers are smart they will spit that hook out as soon as they can shoooot if I don’t work tomorrow morning ima wake up early and go! Lol

Since carp species are invasive and non native should we ever release them back?
No not all carp are invasive. Only Asian carp cause trouble. But common carp and grass carp are actually very good for the environment. They actually stock thousands of grass carp every year to clean the lakes up. Lately I have been fishing for these fish and I can say they are awesome fish. They fight harder than catfish and bass in my opinion. But a lot of people think they are bad when they really aren’t. They have been in America for over 200 years now, they have been here so long that they are just as important as any other fish.
Some states, mine included, have reclassified the European (Common) Carp as invasive, and releasing them back is strongly discouraged. The Asian Carp, the ones that go wild at the sound of boats and jump in the air, are especially invasive, but being filter feeders, are next to impossible to catch with rod and reel.

One time i went to a golf course and fished these 2 big ponds that was loaded with big catfish and huge grass carp. I caught several channel cats well over 15lb and managed to catch some carp. I caught one carp that wouldve weighed around 40lbs easily. It took me almost 45 minutes to fight her and get her to the bank.
