My Kids Want This Rocking Horse Now

- This rocking horse was made for a client. It uses dowel joinery and it's made from Tasmanian oak (vic ash). Some of the joinery was a bit more complicated than I expected, a few compound cuts and a lot of bandsaw work. Really happy how it turned out in the end!

Thanks for watching Хобби
A complex project great for learning on, Im sure there were a lot of "firsts" in that build. End result was awesome. 👍🔨
Gotta be one of the best rocking horses I’ve seen! 👍. For sure family heirloom that will be passed down for generations! Great job as always!
Joe
Thanks Joe!
Ooooooo
I love this project! Amazing work! I’ve been looking for a way to make a small rocking horse as a gift for a friend and I love this design and the way you made use of dowel joinery. I think I’ll be copying you. Beautiful. Great job!
Love the way this project came out. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks!
thanks for sharing this video and tips on sanding curves. love the rocking horse

Very nice work, Robin! Love your thought on the type of finish you used for this.

Absolutely superb mate, my wife's just found out she's pregnant so I'm going to have a little crack at something similar
Awesome job. Greetings from El Salvador Central America.
Thank you very much!
Nice job
Good work done well
Thanks very much!
Nice build
Thanks!
Nice!😎👍
Thanks!
Nice work Robin. Here in Tasmania Tas Oak is most commonly made from Mountain Ash, Eucalyptus regnans. World's tallest flowering plant. Just a bit of trivia for ya. Thanks for this video, gonna make one for the grandkids :-)
And with the tallest tree standing 100 meters up (you piqued my interest clearly) that's even more impressive!
Nice work and good tunes nofx pennywise
Man I really want your playlist
A very nice good job.
Thank you very much!
I notice the dowels on the rocker aren't hidden, yet that was one of the briefs for the project? What happened there? Enjoyed watching you work, thanks.
very nice
Otimo trabalho, vou ver se faço um desses pra meu filho,👏👏👏
Obrigado!
Desde Palmira Colombia 😍👍🤗
Gracias!
Hi Robin, excellent job!!! Do you can share the measures? Thank you very much!
Good video, thanks for sharing, Do you have plains for this? Would like to make one.
Great work Robin . Like to make one for my grand daughter . Where can I find the plans?
Great job. Such a beautiful and elegant rocking horse. I would like to build one for my little daughter but i don’t have any to copy the measurements. Any chance you coud leave a reaply with the measurements please?
Great project, nicely done!
I spent a lot of time watching the video and trying to figure out what music was playing in the background 😂
Thanks
wowee!!
I'm wondering if you have a blueprint of this project available.
I'm learning carpentry and wanting to make a rocking horse as one of my 5 projects. This one is absolutely gorgeous.
If not blueprints then what are the boards you use. I can't tell if its 2x4 or bigger from the video.
Hahaha thanks for including the part where you got hurt . 😂 great job tho sir !
Do you have the molds to make the horse or the measurements. Greetings, beautiful work
I agree, very complex project . . . also great video and very nice work; however, for all that time and detail, I think you should have made 5 . . . as they say, it would have taken about the same time. Cheers.
Thanks Rod
Nice work! I am trying to restore an old children wooden horse, just has a lot of scratches so I was just going to sand and apply some orange oil. Do you have a brand you like to use?
Do you have any rough blueprints that we could follow? Are the 4 legs the same length?
I m from Argentina
Hey man fellow South African here. Where do you get your reclaimed wood?
Lagwagon!!
Nice one
Thanks
@@RobinLewisMakes this is difficult, but I always wanted to make one myself and this might actually help me accomplish what I am planning. I have a godchild now and I would love to make this for him.
amazing😇😇😇i want to this
Start it by facing down
Nice mate. I wondered where you had gone. I havnt seen anything from you In ages! What's happening with your shop stall podcast? I miss watching that. Just a thought for next time. If i am doing tricky duplicate curves I'll make a template out of 12mm ply or mdf as it's easier to shape and then just use a pattern bit on the router. Atleast then there's no risk of making a mistake on the finished product
Just a thought anyway. The rocker came out great. Nice work👌
I was also wondering what happened to the podcast?
Thanks mate! I don't think the podcast is going to be coming back unfortunately, nothings lined up at least. Good call on the pattern bit! I've seen other channels do it, it definitely makes sense!
That's a real shame. Good luck for the future. Maybe a new pod cast...... 😁
Wow nice creative....but iam disappointed bcz I can't get this horse bcz my sis kids love dis one..from india
Thanks
@@RobinLewisMakes ..can u send me dis..how much sir
Don't you get demonetized for all of this awesome music in background ?
It's happened a couple times but I just appeal it and it gets reversed almost immediately
hope you got paid well for this one my friend..
Hi Robin, Very nice build! I saw you marking the rocker curves, but what radius did you use? I am building a baby chair/table set and it needs rockers on it.
GK from Eastern Cape
Hey Gary! Good to talk to a fellow saffa! I can't remember what it was unfortuantely (and it went off to the client shortly after the video) but I do remember being surprised by how little curve you need. I was copying off another horse, so that could be a good place to start
@@RobinLewisMakes Hi Robin
I did some research, and I settled on a radius of 38 inches, and it gave me the correct curve. I mounted the router and clamped the two rockers together, and cut them at the same time. Worked out perfectly!
Awesome! I’ll keep that mind in case someone else asks. Thanks for letting us know
5:40 FFFffffff! We’ve all been there! 🤕
🥰
Not a proud moment haha
Mast
Good howe matsh
How long did it takes you to actually build it ?
It was about 3 full days
I am in the process of making one for my 6 month grandson. Loved the way you do it. My question is the dimension of the horse? Great work by the way!
Thanks. Unfortunately I don’t have the dimensions and it’s already gone off to the client
how to get the perfect measurements of the radius of a rocker (rocker horse or baby bed or a chair)
hi what are the measurements
of the head ?
how much do you charge for one
1:26 what type of clue do you use to stick the paper to the wood?
Its a spray adhesive from a craft store
@@RobinLewisMakes Thank you and amazing work!
@@RobinLewisMakes How do you remove the paper agian? Just sanding?
What am I missing at 10:31? Which step is this? Sorry if I’m being dense!
That’s drilling holes to attach to the rockers, at the drill press
How much would you charge for something like this rocking horse?? $$$$$
How Do you find the right angles?
Most of it was trial and error but once you have an angle you like you can work from there
Okay Thanks
Its okay i bulid a kind off the same like yours?
Can i get this horse
Hi sir I am from India
If you don't mind can you say measurements
first thing i was told day 1 of my apprenticeship hands never in front of chisels
Having not done any formal training I’m interested which part im doing it. Didn’t know there was a “front” of a chisel
@@RobinLewisMakes the sharp end should always pointed away from body , saying that emptied the first aid box in my first week and got roasted ever time
Amigo me puede hacer el favor de regalarme las medidas
What is the measurement
nice job, music not so much lol
Haha, thanks
