By far the best review on this tent. Even better than Napiers own review! Only thing that was not clear is if you can set the tent up and not use the patio room if you just want to set up for a quick overnight stay.
5 years later (it’s 2020 now- I pray you & your family are well... I guess your boys aren’t so “little” after all this time!) and this vid was very, VERY helpful. You are pleasant and thorough! Thanks so much! 💐💐💐
Great review! A key feature not mentioned but important to note is that you could detach it from your vehicle and close up that side. For the camping I’ll do I like that option so if I want to drive to a trailhead I can without complete disassembly. Granted it’d be a doable challenge to back in and reconnect, but having that option is a huge benefit. Needless to say I’m saving to purchase this car tent. I can hardly wait. It’ll be a game changer.
Awesome video! PLUS! You just saved me hundreds of dollars by showing that I don't have to buy roof racks to attach this tent to! Thanks for showing that it can also be attached under the hood! Thank you, thank you!
This tent is fantastic -- if you travel in a van or suv, when it rains you are limited and can't get out of the vehicle. This was even in the rain, you can walk around from 'room to room' and to the front area where you can sit and watch the rain etc. I love it, it's made me think about suv/ten instead of camper. Makes a huge difference !
Have been using this tent for three years. Can not stress enough to use a tarp. Can get them anywhere. Get one large enough to go under the entire tent. It increases the life of the tent floor plus now the porch area has a floor. Mark the places the stakes go through the tarp. If possible put metal rings there. Or can use a couple layers of tape on both sides. Also suggest carrying some rugs to put on the floor. I attach it to the back of my dodge caravan. Another very usable camping device is a folding table. Mine is 4' X 2'. Don't know how I got along with out it?
I have this tent fot 4 years now, good vidéo exact and realistic. Yes you can use ONLY the tent as the patio Room is zipped to the main Room. It does resist strong wind if you use long stake/nails to fix It.
This video is well done and confirmed that this was to be my next tent (and at my age, probably my last! ). I ordered it from Napier (on sale): it arrived in less than a week. It set up easily; directions are clear and simple. So many options for using the space depending on your needs! Can't wait for the VT state parks to open!
Im gonna buy this tent now ... Just cuz of your great review... I saw two gals try to set up this very tent ... Well it didnt work out so good for them ... I can see now they just had no clue .... Probably didnt read them instructions ... Like guys do lol lol ...
@@robmock2296 Yes; the "sleeve" that fits onto the vehicle can unzip completely from the tent, leaving a normal window like the other sides of the tent. You can just take that sleeve off and leave it at home, leave it packed up, -- leave it off.
Best Napier SUV tent review on the ‘tube! But DAMN! Is that a Hawaii safety inspection sticker on your bumper lol! Those are some OG stickers haha!🤙🏽🤙🏽
Excellent review. Thanks. I have a truck with shell. We have a 6" mattress in the truck bed for sleeping and I was looking for something that would provide shade and keep out mosquitos. Thus is perfect. Sounds like it's really tough and well made too.
EXCELLENT review and superb video production! Very professional. Excellent sound quality. I like the closing shot with the sun in the background and perfect exposure on your face. You should give a tutorial on wannabe video producers!
thanks for the kind words. I remember a photographer tell once that the best time to get your footage is often at sunrise or sunset. I filmed this a few hours before the sun set. I got lucky with the sun creeping over the top of the mountain lol. as for audio I just used the on board stereo mics on the Canon 70D. I just stood close with a 10mm wide angle lens and spoke up. lav mic is the way all you tubers should do reviews though. maybe I will make a how to make youtube videos. that would be fun and helpful.
mixflip You totally should do a training vid, if you haven't already. I've seen many that had great content, but the audio was inaudible, even through a headset. Then there was the guy with no image stabilization and too much caffeine...I nearly hurled trying to get the good info he offered because the image was jumping all over the place. Do it!
Yes the tent can be set up without connecting it to your car, and it says that the screen room can be removed or not set up if desired. Heard that that tunnel cover is not waterproof, but that what tarps and bungee cords were made for. Have one on order and can't wait to try it next spring, got the footprint for the screen room but may also use a footprint for the tent to help keep it dry undreneath.
This was great. Thank you for showing the step by step with all the features. Wondering about the "hopping" in and out of the car. Would have liked to have seen that stepping in and out. Really perfectly detailed video!
Excellent review! Thanks. I am seriously considering one for my "new glamping adventure", and this helps a lot. I would be getting the "screen room" floor accessory that Napier offers.
And it is built in a way that you can detach your Van or SUV and drive away from your campsite, shopping/exploring for the day, return and quickly hook back up again. Very Cool.
Great video. I've got one of the older, discontinued cabalas truck/suv tents and it has really served me well through the years. Highly recommend one of these for anyone camping on a budget
Nice looking tent. Love your channel - all my favorite things! Be sure you let the exhaust cool off before you attach it to the car. Had a friend that melted a pretty big hole in a similar tent cause the exhaust was still hot when he set up camp. Have fun camping with the family!
I bought the 9x9 Napier for attaching to my flyer camper. The tunnel is not waterproof. Got caught in some wind over in the badlands last week and tore the tent. Found one of these at cabelas and hoping to set it up this week when we go to the Tetons.
I watched this a few days ago and bought one off Craigslist brand new for 225.00. I'm headed to South Dakota to Mt. Rushmore in September. Im super excited, I hope I like it. Thanks for the review!
Great review! I'm glad you were thorough. If you're looking to improve your videos, what would really add a great boost is a 30-second or so clip at the end with you just relaxing in the tent. It would serve as a simulation of actual tent usage, give a sense of proportion, and add much better perspective in terms of real world usage!
Thanx for such an informative video -- you helped me decide to buy this -- convinced me that I could put it up on my own. And, I did! In insane wind! With only a tiny bit of help from my young boy. I didn't use the rainfly. Weather was gorgeous. I did figure out I didn't have the 2 support bars on the screen room correct, but it worked -- and, a few squirrels got through the bottom that attaches to the car. Long story short: I'm on crutches now. LOL ... QUESTION: why no guylines? Any idea? I was sooooooo glad I had rope, and made my own. The wind was so bad, we could hear it coming!
Nicole B glad I could help. it has guidelines. I just didnt use them here. Thanks for watching. I'll be filming at the overland expo in a few weeks so stay tuned.
I bought a new crossover and they advertize this tent. Just one additional piece. You lay the seats down in your car and you add additional sleeping area for 2 o 3 more. I have not used mine yet but watching this excited me to get going with mine!
Great review! Just wondering if you ever had an experience with it on a rainy day(s)? How did it hold up? Any leaks and water getting in some areas? Thank you!
Love this thanks from Australia love your camera work much better to see inside with the camera you are using I am about to buy this tent to make sure I always have a roof over my head just in case as well as general camping
Thanks for watching. I bought a 10mm wide angle lens on a canon 70D for this video. I love the results and I'm glad you do to. I have many more camping videos if you haven't seen them yet? Probably 1000+ products.
I had/have a tent with a screened in porch area for camping with my family. It was so beneficial with kids. It was a place for shade and a bug-free zone. Caution should be used when eating in it, as with eating in the tent... don't want food smells in your tent to attract animals, but if we were camping in a bear-free area we would set up one of those little folding pic-nic tables in the screened in area. Kids ate in there and there were many late night card games with a battery operated lantern. The fact that this one attaches to your SUV could be a great feature. My kids are grown now and camping on their own with friends, so I don't need this, but what a great option for families. The price may seem high, but it's less than long a weekend at a hotel and you're going to use it for years to come. Thanks for your review.
all great points. I agree I never feel comfortable eating/snacking in tents due to animals smelling us but we do it when not in bear country lol. My kids are small so we should get lots of use out of this tent. We recently used it in Northern Arizona at the overland expo and loved it. I think we will upgrade to a popup trailer tent eventually as the kids get bigger and we get older.
Debbie Miley This would be fabo if u plan to stay in one campground for several days or longer. A very nice change of pace for anyone sleeping in their car, if you could afford one. Being able to stretch out, air out all ur crap, even hang laundry in the porch...heaven. Looks like you can shut your hatch to lock gear in your car, leaving the tent attached (just unclip in a couple places). I believe you can also detach the car huggy bit...forgot the term, to go somewhere and leave the tent pitched. Then just back your car up and reattach. Only problem I can see is it takes up a lot of space, but if you have a car top carrier, good option.
I would have liked to see you disassemble it and put it back in the bag. Also, what if you want to use the vehicle while camping? Is there a way to detach the tent and secure the opening?
I'd probably put down a tarp in the porch to make more sleeping space. I think im a get one of these. Everytime i go camping I Always leave all my coolers and food in the car. This is better.
Alexcia Dixon I'd put a tarp/groundsheet under the tent too, to protect the bottom of it from sharp crap underneath. Nothing says 'DAMN' like a floor leaking in your tent because you put it down on a sharp rock or pokey tree root.
Nice tent i have one. But the winds in the legendary 11 mile resevoir in Colorado made one side collapse twice, had to prop it with gear. However that wind made a lot of other tents collapsed, the only tent to survive would have been my moss. In any other situations it would have been fine.
By far the best review on this tent. Even better than Napiers own review! Only thing that was not clear is if you can set the tent up and not use the patio room if you just want to set up for a quick overnight stay.
At 7:10 I believe I show the tent setup with just the main room up. You can unzip off the patio.
Yes you can use ONLY the tent as the patio Room is zipped to the main Room

Watched this last year and now I am convinced that this tent is for me! Thanks ! Awesome review
Nice to see what my will look like when finally i put mine up,
I watched quite a few videos on this tent. Your review was the best, by far. You should be proud. Thanks!
Great demo! I have been considering this tent and you have THE BEST showcase of this product!
Best review of this tent that I’ve seen out there. Thanks a lot!

That is awesome. I could put my toilet bucket in there and other toiletry items.
I am about to get this tent in 2weeks. Cant be more excited. Ready to explore the australian outdoors
Ordered ours today - can't wait! Will make camping with 2 very active dogs much more enjoyable.
Just bought one after watching many reviews of many tents. I just hope my town and country will last as long as the tent! Thanks for the review!
I have just bought one and am glad you like the tent And the one person tips are going to be a tremendous help thank you

Thank you for time-tested feedback on the tent use. Helps me determine to increase this tent fund.
Actually just got the tent and going camping with my Jeep this week!!! Great video boss!!!

Thank you. Looking for a tent for my 2021 sienna.

Just ordered this tent based on your review. Thanks for the great info!

We just bought a 4Runner so we can use it with this tent. So excited! Thanks for making such a through review.

Just bought my Subaru Crosstrek, and looking forward to easing into camping at a reasonable investment. Great video. Thanks.
